    Serious problems with scanner drivers

I tried to use this scanner with both windows 11 and windows 10 and wasted hours trying to get the scanner to work with either system. I tried the support site and it was not useful. A waste of time and money.

Very good deal for an economical quick to scan scanner.

Most dedicated business scanners with feeders cost $600 and up. Those that get them for business scan a lot. This one is small as described and works great and seems compatible with a variety of computers because it has a few good drivers that installed easily. A real deal for a dedicated scanner. Scans quickly and good but is not the copy quality of the more expensive scanners. The image is not crisp but is easy to read through the feeder and may not be enough for a quality photo but for scanning a document to be read later and for archiving, this is excellent. The bed feeder image quality is a bit clearer. Very happy with this scanner.

Scanner stopped working after 3 years

The scanner worked well for me in the past 3 years but is now unusable. It still scans but each page of the scanned documents would show a white broad band on the left side, obscuring around 20-25% of the texts or images. It looks like the scanner has a shelf life of 3 years?

    Truly an excellent, must-have scanner

I don’t typically write review, but this has become indispensable in my corporate and home office. I have owned 3 of these for about 9 months now.Pros:1) Compact2) Fast3) Buttons for single and duplex scanning are useful4) Included software is actually pretty high-end (PDF editor, with OCR recognition)5) Seamless ADF and flatbed capabilitiesCons:Moderate cost (but when you factor in the inclusion of professional-grade included software that integrates well into the functionality of the scanner, I think it is probably appropriate)

Top Scanner for Home or Small Business

The Xerox Duplex Combo Scanner is an excellent piece of equipment with easy to use software and top performance. The scanner allows you to scan simplex or duplex and the automatic feeder makes it a pleasure to use. The unit will automatically go to idle when not in use and will totally shutdown after an hour or two. Scan quality is top notch and the speed is very adequate. No complaints on this piece of equipment and I would recommend it to anyone.

If the scanner would stop breaking down it would be a good product.

Easy to use, but you are tied to their Abby FineReader if you want to get the best utility out of the scanner.Unfortunately my scanner has broken down twice since the initial purchase in November 2019. I had to pay over $50 to ship the first one back even though it was still under warranty. And you have to pay for the replacement. You don’t get your money back until they have received the defective product. Other companies would ship the replacement, only charging you if you don’t return the original merchandise in a timely manner. Now that the second scanner has broken down within two months of receiving it, I believe I will have to just bite the bullet and buy a different scanner and obviously, from a different vendor.I once considered Xerox for my next printer but now, I will never buy another Xerox product.

    Change is for the better!!

My 6 year old HP flatbed scanner died. The thought of replacing it with a new scanner did not make me happy. I was so wrong. This scanner does it all with simple menus. Auto feed is dependable, double-sided scanning is great, migration of documents to either printer or pdf to computer is simple as are the many other options. If you are looking for a flatbed scanner for small business or home use this works great!

This scanner is a relic from the 20th century

Instructions for setting up this scanner comes on a CD! Who has a CD drive these days? With that, the link to download the software on the CD doesn’t work. The software is available from Xerox, but it is hard to find. Once located, the scanner installed on a machine running Windows 10. That’s where the real age of this product shows up. You cannot store files directly to OneDrive, even though the software recognizes the drive and its folders. Is Xerox stuck in the twentieth century? On the plus side, the images are clear at up to 1200 dpi and the scans are relatively quick. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn’t pay this much for an outdated technology.

A real work horse with proper ventilation

I have put this scanner through every type of scan and it just shines as long as it has proper ventilation. It was during a marathon scanning session that I found out that the rear end needs exposure to proper ventilation to prevent overheating. The best feature of this scanner is that it looks for right-reading in the original. I have placed originals up or down, forward-facing or rear-facing, and the scanner compensates during the scan. The result is a right-reading image. This is the best document scanner in the low-end price range.

Broken after 2 years of light use – under warranty

UPDATE – I found out the product came automatically with a 3 year warranty and it sounds like they will be sending me a new scanner at no cost. The main problem is that after two years of very light use, the scanner quit working in Duplex mode. When copying double-sided document, every other page would have a dark line down the middle of the page, similar to the attached photo, which is a screen shot from the customer support forum. This seems to be a common problem, yet there are no instructions online as to how to fix this yourself, so I’m guessing this requires a costly support service call.Aside from that, I would frequently have trouble connecting the scanner to my printer. I have to frequently unplug the scanner and plug it back in, to get it to work properly with the software on my laptop. Simply turning it off or restating my laptop or scanning software doesn’t work, the only solution is to unplug it.If you buy this scanner be sure to get a good extended warranty. Unfortunately, I did not. I’m waiting on technical support now and will update this post once I know the resolution to the LED light failure.

    Great Hardware – Lacking Software

This scanner is a major step up from the common all-in-one printer units. It’s really good – I’ve been super impressed. Take a stack of papers, stick them in the tray, and the thing just pumps. The amount of work you can get done in a short amount of time with this scanner shouldn’t be ignored. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that Xerox software included is pretty awful. Like, Windows 98 called and wants their developers back. Visually unappealing, extremely un-intuitive, and all the important features are buried in sub-menus. Truly, I haven’t even used many of the features that I know this scanner is capable of because the software is so terrible. I even browsed the owner’s manual help, it’s that bad.If you’re running the scanner through third-party software, it’s a slam dunk. If you’re using what comes shipped with it, be prepared to be the only person in the office that knows how to scan – no else is going to take the time to learn a new dumb program made unnecessarily difficult for no reason.

    Big things in small packages

When the box arrived on my doorstep, I thought it was a different shipment. It seemed a little too small for what it was offering. As I unpacked the scanner I was even more skepticle about how it would perform.I purchased this scanner to consolidate the loose paperwork I have, old magazines that I don’t want to get rid of, and the many books taking up too much space.Given that perspective, this amounts for thousands of pages to scan. This looks Way too small to accomplish this task. Start the test run.First setup, it was so easy I thought I did it wrong. It took maybe five minutes to setup the scanner and another ten minutes to setup the software. That was it, I was finished with the setup. I was ready to start scanning.Surprise to me this is a full color scanner.I had a book with a broken spine so I cut the spine completely off the book, placed the cover on the flatbed, and pressed the scan button on the software. Full color cover. I proceeded to load about 50 pages into the feeder, changed the scan setting to grey scale and pressed the scan button again. Within 30 seconds later it scanned both sides. I continued to load pages until I was finished with the book.No came the hard part, putting all of the scan batches together. Starting with the first batch, I was able to merge it with the second batch then that one to the next batch until I was finished merging them all. This too 2 mouse clicks each time I merged a batch.Next came saving. This was the hardest part. The choices of files I can save as was more than expected. I was expecting only pdf. I was not expecting searchable pdf, there are more file formats that can be chosen. All together, I would have to say, this is a beast of a scanner. It out performed my expectations. I would recommend this for all small business needs or household document storage needs.Bug things in small packages

    High recommendation

Because Amazon sometimes jumbles the comments across products not all being the correct product. I will begin by saying I am commenting on this product: Xerox XD-COMBO Duplex Combo Flatbed Document ScannerI am extremely happy with this scanner. Had a bit of an issue installing. But to my surprise Amazon offers tech support!! Wow I did not know that. They helped me by chat to find the drivers online and walked me all the way through setting up the scanner. Xerox still has not responded to my email I submitted for tech support. Sad but amazon helped me even though I set it up on a Sunday. Xerox was closed. It’s now Tuesday and they have not responded but it’s ok I’m up and running and didn’t have to return the whole thing because the installation disk was bad.The scanner itself is very lightweight and a small footprint on my desk and yet it has a legal size flatbed scanner. The numerous options I am still finding are great (you can click duplex or not for each scan, you can assign a file name and a specific folder right away no need to rename and place correctly from a big scan folder, you can choose a file for each scan or put all pages in one folder- very helpful and the list goes on.I find it easy to use. Never did find a manual I’m sure it’s out there but I’ve used scanners before so I had an idea just needed to find things. It’s also super fast and because of the flatbed it has a great angle support to hold the papers going through the duplex paper feed. Not sure the paper limits but I’ve learned by weight how much I can put each time. I highly recommend it.I’m using it with a MacBook Pro

It’s like a scanner/printer combo, only much thinner

I have had a few scanner/printer combos in my time (in fact there is a large Samsung on my desk right now). The good;Stands only 1/4 tall as my standard printerScans both sides at once, reducing workload by at least halfComes with fairly decent scanning/correction softwareEasy to install – my PC picked it up and installed in mere secondsFeeder mechanism seems fairly robustIs very quick at lower resolutionsThe bad;The scanner settings can be a bit ‘clunky’ and hard to understandIt can only scan 35pp at once – as I have documents of well over 100pp, this means extra work at the endThe lid is not fastened securely – feels like it’s going to come off at any minuteThe background on the lid is black, you need to add a piece of white paper if you want it to be whiteOverall this is a better scanner than many others I have used in the past. If they increased the feeder capacity to 100pp, than this would be an outstanding scanner. Also, the lid background should be made a standard white color. If you are looking for a simple, higher-end scanner for your desktop, you should definitely consider this one – it will probably do everything you need and maybe even a bit more.

    Great Scanner

This would be a five star product if it were not for the fact that the software must be downloaded from the Net after the scanner is connected and it took me almost 18 hours with a hard wired LAN to download the software and upgrades. Once done, it is an assume blessing to any party needing to scan large amounts of documents in a reasonable of time with paying Staples ONE DOLLAR PER PAGE TO SCAN A DOCUMENT TO A FLASH DRIVE! THAT’S CORRECT! ONE FULL DOLLAR PER PAGE! You do not have to scan many documents to justify purchasing this device

Disappointed. It Stopped Working without warning.

This was honestly one of the best scanners I ever bought and I would’ve given it a glowing review had it not cranked out within a year without warning. While it worked, it was easy to use, automatically turned the documents into readable pdfs, omitted blank pages when doing duplex and automatically detected the size. It was very fast and efficient. Even other persons took notice and wanted to buy one. However less than a year into buying it, it just stopped working. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, plugging it out and back in and nothing. I’m so disappointed because now I’m down a scanner, and I don’t want to buy it again for it to just stop out of the blue. I’m talking I used it, everything was good and 10 minutes later it never worked again. I really don’t know what to do. A scanner is a need not a want for me but this experience turned sour so fast. It would’ve been 100% worth it if it stayed working, but it’s too expensive for the short shelf life. So I hesitantly say don’t waste your money

    Fantastic Xerox Duplex Scanner

This scanner was purchased to replace a reasonably good (but slow) Canon flatbed scanner. It is such a pleasure now to be able to place 20 or more pages in the automatic document feeder and scan both sides in about a minute. The product information states “3 seconds per page” and it really takes only “3 seconds per page!” With my old scanner, I had to scan each page individually and had to wait 30-35 seconds per page! The included ABBYY FineReader PDF software works quite well and is fully integrated into the scanning process! The scanner was also quite easy to set up. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this wonderful scanner. It really was worth a little extra money to get one of the BEST!!

    Highly recommended personal scanner

So once you get past the initial setup / install, this is a fantastic scanner! The instructions for setup make it seem like 1-2-3 install and we found it anything but…but eventually we got thru it and once you do, this is such a wonderful piece of office equipment. Very simple and easy to use! I gave tech support 3 stars because we had difficulty finding drivers, additional information online and didn’t actually need to call for any support. Easily scan and organize your documents to your desktop or external storage device with ease! I was very impressed with the speed of a dual sided scan as well, especially on one pass through the feeder. Very happy with the purchase and would highly recommend!

    USE

This scanner is great; however, it is, at least for me, a little difficult to utilize all that it has to offer. For one thing, I cannot figure out how to scan in color from the scanner unless I go to the one touch buttons. If you buy one of these, you will be getting a great scanner. Be sure to read the manuals. This is not a simple scanner. It does not take up much room and is lightweight. I also wish the instructions were a little clearer (It could just be me as I am an old man) so I could readily utilize all of it’s functions without having to research. I also wish they would offer a cover for it to protect it from dust.

    Day One, great scanner!

Out of the box, installed and working in about an hour! My old scanner/printer combo stopped working and I had a pile of documents to scan. I am not an expert techie and I was surprised how easy this was to set up. I’m running old Windows 7 so I was a little concerned about the software. Seems the software is old school too. It could be better, but was easy to install and use. Now that I have my important documents scanned I’m looking for more stuff to scan, just because I can. This is so much faster than my old one: Pinto vs Ferrari. I hope this Xerox scanner is as reliable as my Xerox copier that is still working great after about 20 years.

    Fast duplex scanner

This Xerox Duplex Combo flatbed scanner replaces my 10+ year old Canon flatbed scanner. It was easy to install. I downloaded the drivers directly from the Xerox site (choose the Visioneer Update) and was able to scan immediately using the OneTouch 4.6 & ABBYY FineReader PDF 15 Standard software which is included. The Simplex/Duplex buttons on the scanner work with the sheet feeder. My old scanner would take up to 2 minutes to scan a single page. This one can scan a duplex page in a second. It is very fast. I had no trouble to get this working or with using it. It has a small footprint and fits on my desk. I’m happy with this scanner.

    Good Scanner

I bought this because I have thousands of pages of my Grandmother’s handwritten journals. I wanted a way to scan them so they can be available to all her posterity to read. The instructions for setting it up and getting the correct software downloaded were seriously frustrating (it took me about 6 hours to finally get it working). Once I had the software installed and got updates for everything that I downloaded (Why doesn’t Xerox have the updated software on their site already???), I went to work scanning. It really is a good quality scanner and fairly simple to use. I have not tried photos yet, but I plan to eventually. All in all, for the price this is a great scanner.

Great scanner for a low price

This little workhorse is one of the best scanners we’ve ever owned. It is light and inexpensive, but the character recognition is an even better value for the money. It won’t take oversize magazine pages, but it will take letter size of all paper finishes and it does a good high-res scan as well. I’ve taken it with me places – no larger than a projector and less heavy. I’ve put tons of old files through it and it’s handled it better than scanners on our combo copier units. If you use it a really long time at a stretch, you might need to put your fingers lightly on the stack so that it doesn’t pull two pages at once, but if you are scanning regularly, daily and in fairly large quantities, it won’t disappoint you.

    Liking my new toy!

Took me a bit of digging into the manual in order to find the customization settings, and some trial and error to figure out how they work…but once I did my playing around in there I was able to get everything set up the way I wanted it. Typical user probably won’t need to customize settings at all, the defaults cover the full range of features.I specifically got this model because it supports both flatbed and feeder scanning, and the glass plate for the feeder scan is accessible for cleaning as needed. This is about half the size of the all-in-one printer/fax that I’d been using as just a scanner for several years, and MUCH faster. I’ve got two of the scan presets (color, B&W) set to send to the printer, so that I can effectively make copies on the rare occasion that I have a need to do so.My only unfulfilled wish-for feature is direct network capability; I ended up hacking around that by setting up a public directory on the one computer within cable distance and scanning to there so the file(s) can be accessed from elsewhere on the household wireless network. This setup works equivalently as long as I remember to plug in the cable and turn the laptop on.

    Inferior 600 dpi flatbed resolution.

First off, the ADF on this unit is great. Way better than the junky #$%& stuff you get on the Hewlet Packard units. Fast. Accurate. Dependable. The thing installs in seconds. Plug and play. All good. The weak part is the flatbed scanner optics resolution is only 600 dpi. Most flatbeds optically scan at 1200 dpi and you really want that resolution to get good photo scans. The 600dpi is just fine for fast scans on documents where speed is primary goal. Photos on a flatbed need higher resolution. This unit scimps on the optics. If you need fast scanning on docs with a beautiful ADF unit, this Xerox can’t be beat for the price. Photo scans on the flatbed will leave you questioning/regretting your purchase however.

    Did not work for me

I have many pages of letters, etc. that are on onion or other very thin paper which have to be placed on the glass to scan (as opposed to putting through the automatic document feeder). I want to make all of these scans into one PDF document. Apparently, it is not possible to put a page on the glass and scan it using the button on the scanner; I need to use the “TWAIN” interface on my computer screen. This means I have to place a page on the scanner, go to the computer, use the mouse to click on “Scan,” then go back to the scanner and remove the paper and put another one on the glass and repeat the process. Very awkward and inconvenient.I will say that Xerox customer support is great – there is a phone number to call and a very short wait time. Unfortunately, two technicians could not figure out how to make my scanning job easier.

    Up and Running FAST!

Received my Xerox Scanner this morning. The physical installation was pretty simple. (remember to Unlock the scanner)! lol.The software installed on my Mac IOS easily with zero issues. Once installed, their interface is father basic. Very basic. Not wha I would have expected from a company like Xerox. I was having difficulty using their software. Called CS, and within three minutes, I now understand how to use the product easier. The instructions like everything are written by an engineer and useless. The scanner scans SUPER FAST. Quality of scans are perfect. After scanning for an hour, this was the right choice. The price was what attracted my in the first place, Xerox brand name second.

    What they don’t tell you

I was so excited when I got my new Xerox scanner. I couldn’t wait to start scanning all of last year’s documents and get them out of the way. I got my scanner on a Friday afternoon and set it up that evening after work. However, the only documentation that comes with it involves setting up the scanner (and it’s all pictures). There was absolutely nothing telling how to install and register the ABBYY software that comes with it. I contacted ABBYY support, and they were no help. I finally got it registered (don’t ask me how; I have no idea!), but it was actually five days before I was able to use the scanner. Now that it’s working, it’s good. There are a lot of steps to scanning a document, but I’ve gotten all of my 2020 papers onto my computer and into the shredder.

    FIRST DAY COMMENTS

Since I just installed this scanner today, I’m just commenting on installation. After reading all the negative comments about how hard it was to install the software for this scanner, I almost didn’t get it. I’m so glad i went ahead. The installation process was very simple and I had no problems at all. Based on prior reviews, I went to the xeroxscanner web page and read the manual. That made it much easier and straight forward. Talk about step by step guidance. The info that comes with the hardware is very minimal and the manual was very helpful. The included software does everything that I need and then some and the document feeder and duplex scanning are great. So for Day One, this is a great product. Don’t let the installation reviews scare you off.

Really Good….Just Be Careful with the Packing Tape

This seems to be a really good product (so far), but when removing the packing tape that holds everything in-place be careful. When pulling the tape off on my unit I caused the ADF mechanism to get dislodged slightly and caused all sorts of problems of not detecting feed of the documents meant to be ADF. I finally realized it was partially stuck and had to sorta “jerk” it back into position…..then things worked flawlessly.Hopefully my rough initial jostling of this won’t come back to bite me in the …..

    After Debug, Works great

    1) Do not install Apple Bonjour provided in the install package onto a Win 7 System. It is listed as a default option in the extremely vague literature that comes with the printer. Apple Bonjour caused much damage to my Win7 Laptop that require 4 days to repair. Any questions, see “1)”.Outside of my warning the scanner works perfectly with my preexisting Adobe Acrobat XI Pro.

Works Well and Easy To Use

I had no trouble setting this up and figuring out how to use it. Software bundle is good. Much faster scanning than the old HP scanner it replaced. Two-sided (duplex) scanning on my old HP scanner always caused jams, but this scanner does duplex in one pass and has worked flawlessly. I’m happy with this product.

    The Xerox pedigree shows

I have been using my scanner all day today, and I have to say this duplex combo scanner behaves brilliantly. It appears the designing engineer(s) actually considered the usage side of the equation as well as function. I was initially put off by the somewhat flimsy plastic construction, but if it helps keep the cost down, I’m for it. At any rate I have decided it is good enough. It turns out you don’t have to spend a lot of time poking and prodding as you sometimes have to do with the competition. Just put your papers in the bin and it just seems to swallow the material. Done.In case you haven’t figured it out, I love this machine.

Great Specs – but I was sent an open-box copy – stuff missing ?

I wanted to like this scanner – but upon receipt – the box had obviously been previously opened. The orange shipping tapes had been removed, the scanner was not in it’s plastic bag (although the bag was in the box), the previous shipping label had been clumsily removed, and the yellow tag cut from the box. There was no instruction manual nor quick start guide. The power supply was loose in the box, and there was no USB connector cord. In addition, there was no license key for the ABBYY FineReader PDF 15 OCR program – which the software update program wanted to install. This unit is going back. After refund, I will consider re-purchasing it.

    Worth the cost!

I purchased this duplexing, auto-loading tray scanner because my other printers and scanner stopped working when I updated to Mac OS 11, Big Sur. It is faster and quieter than any I have used previously, and though it was a bit higher cost than I usually pay, it is worth it. I am glad my others quit working so that I could actually be encouraged to buy a better scanner. The pages feed quickly, quietly, without jamming, and the quality of the scan is adjustable according to need. If you do much scanning at all, you won’t be disappointed. For an idea of speed of scanning, it scans duplex faster than the professional Toshiba Copier/Printer we have at work.

Easy to setup and great for a home office

This scanner is very lightweight, extremely fast when using the auto-feeder for both duplex and single scanning. Very easy to use. Although the software interface looks like it hasn’t been updated since the MS-DOS era….it works just as advertised. All scanned files are stored in a folder that’s created during the install process. I would just rename the files to help identify them if you’re scanning a lot of documents.

    setup can be tedious

Works as designed and is perfect for high speed duplex scanning. Setup can be tedious depending on your computer specs and operating system but be patient, read all instructions and wait it out,it will install in most instances and you will be rewarded with a fantastic, speedy and accurate scanner that is so fast that the firs multiple page scan you make will more than offset the time you believe you lose setting this up. I highly recommend the scanner for even those with only occasional scan requirements.

Small, sturdy and excellent quality scanner

I was looking for a small and easy to use scanner and I have to say that this was it. I was not able to use the enclosed CD because I do not have a CD drive, but I went online and downloaded the software and drivers. Very easy to install. I was also very surprised to see that the duplex scanning was very fast. Picture quality was very good. Overall I am very happy with this scanner. It would have been nice if they had a wireless connection option too. Even without that, I would highly recommend this duplex scanner to everyone.

    Nice scanner.

This is a nice scanner, works fast, and has a small footprint. Scans both sides simultaneously. It’s not wireless, needs to be connected to a computer with a cable, which is not provided.

    Easy to use versatile scanner

Sets up in minutes, software enables you to convert scans to multiple formats, feeder works quickly and software properly orients scans. I purchased this to convert my paper medical records to pdf files as I am retiring and need to keep records for seven years. A flash drive is easier to move around than boxes and boxes of paper files.

Outdated software. Not easy to network and share scanner and expensive if they forget to ship the CD

The construction and base functionality is good. It’s the complex bunch of software pieces that come with it that are outdated for Windows 10/11 and not intuative to use. Worse yet, my scanner shipped from Amazon (and I assume from Xerox before that) without the software CD and license keys. There are several software components that come with the scanner but the networking and ABBYY PDF software licenses are $150 if you don’t have a key.I have contacted Xerox customer service about the no CD included, which it should of been. They sent me to Xerox Support where I was on hold forever until it just hung up on me. I called back and left a call back number. Never got a call. I have submitted support requests twice from the Xerox support page. No call backs, no emails.Don’t buy Xerox.

Has the feel of a commercial scanner

I purchased the “Xerox XD-COMBO Duplex Combo Flatbed Document Scanner” to turn 30 years of paper into digital, searchable PDF’s. I wanted to write this review because I’ve used other scanners in the past, and it’s hard to ensure what features you are getting before buying. This scanner hits on all cylinders and shines. Here’s my experience from installation to digitization. The installation gives you the option to install from the internet, so you know that you are getting the most up-to-date version. I chose to install from the internet. It took about 30 minutes but executed without issue. There is a lot of documentation provided. This review focuses primarily on the Visioneer Capture SE software, but it also installs a number of productivity tools such as,• Visioneer Organizer AI: Indexes your documents so you can quickly search to find a document by contents.• ABBYY Business Card Reader: Allows you to scan business cards and convert them into contacts.• OneTouch: Quick access via the toolbar to start things such as scan, search, or print documents.• Various applications to read, edit, and compare PDF files as well as clipboard capture to PDF.Here are some of the features I’ve come to expect in a scanner which the “Xerox XD-COMBO” supports:• Automatic Document Feeder: The feeder is the best I’ve seen at successfully handling paper and in speed. I even crumpled up a paper and added a tear…it still was able to feed it successfully.• Searchable-PDF support: It matches other OCR capabilities I’ve seen and even matches font for copy/paste operations. OCR was successful even on scans where the text was skewed or warped.• Scan Profiles: The software comes with default scanning profiles with the ability to save your own custom profiles. I primarily tested with 1) 300 DPI, 2) Document Size = Maximum, 3) Rotate = Automatic, 4) Skip blank originals, 5) Duplex. This also allows you to configure• Ability to rotate, crop, delete, and insert pages.• Using the ADF, I was able to successfully scan 2 letter size pages end-to-end (i.e. 8.5” x 22”). Scanning via the glass pane only supports up to A4 size and you are limited to 8.5” page width.• The User Interface isn’t the most glamorous, but it’s fairly easy to find the functionality. The two things I feel it’s missing are 1) Showing the document size (e.g. 8.5” x 11”) of a selected page and 2) Ability to reorder pages. Though, you can accomplish the later using the insert, merge, and split functionality.• Supports export to PDF, PDF/A, Searchable-PDF, TIFF, JPG, and BMP.Here are features that I think make the “Xerox XD-COMBO” stand out from others:• When a jam occurs, I was able to remove the jammed paper and retry. With other scanners, I was forced to restart the scan over completely. That can be frustrating when you’ve scanned 100+ pages and it jams near the end.• Allows you to merge and split PDF documents. So if you have say, 100 pages, you can scan them in batches and merge all into a single document. It also allows you to import any of your existing documents, so you can perform merges with them too.• Allows you to selectively perform edits (such as rotate or delete) multiple pages, prior to export.• With the option to auto-detect orientation and blank pages, I no longer had to manually delete blank pages or rotate pages that were in landscape mode. This is the best I’ve seen to support efficient office automation.• Cropping options even include “snapping” the page size to the closest matching standard document sizes (e.g. Letter, A4).• You can configure the OneTouch buttons to control document automation from scan to target storage.• Supports export of documents to cloud storage (Google Drive). In summary, I’ve used many scanners and OCR software in the past. This combination by far beats all of them and comes in a portable package. The variety of options has saved me a lot of manual effort and time. I can see that there are many more options that I don’t even use that will help you automate scanning of documents to storage and easily search and retrieve those documents for printing or sharing with your team.

Excellent performance, powerful scanner options, software seems dated 2003 format.

Positives:Scanner buttons on the scanner are easy understand and operate. The duplex feature is awesome. Scanner PC software options are full featured beyond the scope of a casual user, in my opinion, that will take you to the moon and back with the depth of available scanner choices. PDF operators manual is excellent reading material if your in for a long potty break session or if that sort of technical stuff appeals to you.Technical Support:Xerox free Technical phone support was beyond awesome too. Xerox’s Technical support team, in my opinion, was aware of the confusion with the dated yet powerful software. The software that controls the scanner looks like it was designed back in 2003. Technical support was eager, patient and helpful to assist me bridging the gap between understanding an old layout not designed for a Windows 10 look and feel . We did a remote session which was key to showing me where to locate the software on the PC, etc.Negatives:The Xerox.com website was confusing because it only supports printers. Xeroxscanner.com website supports scanners. The Xerox.com website dies not tell you that. Xeroxscanners.com is the only website for scanner drivers, support and registration. My expectation would be that Xerox Corp would be anticipating this confusion and inform the end-user from the start there are two different Xerox websites. The scanner technical support team admitted they were aware of this confusion too. Here’s why. Zerox.com lets you enter the scanner information but the website will not recognize the model number. Then you scratch your head and try several times. In fact you can not start a chat session from the Xerox.com website for help because the required model number to start a chat session does not support scanner model numbers. Xerox should tell you that up front.Phone Support made me aware of the two different websites.Scanner Software:Even though the Scanner software is powerful with options that only a skilled artist with a pallet full of colors the could appreciate casual users will not figure out the layout. This software is so dated there is no ability to transfer the software icon to the desktop or task bar. So how do you run the scanner software? You need to select the little “up arrow” icon in the lower left screen. Then find the little Christmas Green and Red “GT” icon. Select that. A small rectangular screen will open on the lower right of the screen. The Installation DVD that comes with the scanner was not upgraded to install automatically for Windows 10. I had to manually locate the “setup” file extension from the DVD to install the software. That was my experience.Xerox software will not show up in the Windows 10 installed software directory either, and, as a result, there is no icon available for a desktop or task bar icon.Xerox scanner software does not even show up in the list of installed Windows 10 software.Running the Xerox “One Touch” software can only be done by clicking the lower right side up arrow using the left mouse function not the right click function. And, one must locate the “red and green” – “One Touch”, “GT” icon. Not very intuitive. That seems so anal for a Windows 10 environment.Product Information:The product information tag under the scanner does not have the serial number listed. I am referencing the one that has the model number and electrical compliance symbols plus all the other information bout the scanner on that tag. The serial number is missing from that tag. There is a small tag located on the back of the scanner which has the serial number. Conclusion:Technical Support will help you understand how to navigate around this dated software design. But, the software is powerful with tons of features if you are needing fine adjustments for your scan. Scanner Technical Support is there to help. After two excellent technical support phone calls and them taking control of my PC to show me how to navigate around this software, I am very satisfied with the this duplex scanner works. Once the “defaults” are properly set, the scanner just works and will rock you off your feet! I am now ready to scan all my double sided documents with ease.

Software Installation Problems, But Is A Good Scanner

I’ve only just now gotten the scanner to work. Interface is intuitive, and scan is good quality. The software is robust in the sense that one may scan to a variety of platforms such as MSWord, PDF, and searchable PDF, etc. To get the One Touch scanner profile to launch if you need to edit it, click in the white space of the small scanner window to the bottom right. I couldn’t later find it on the Start Up menu, and there’s no shortcut for it.I may update this review later, but wanted to post one now because I’ve spent hours getting the software to install properly and write now in case it may help someone. The instructions say to review the installation instructions on the CD. That’s not helpful if one has issues getting the CD to load. One may find the instructions on Xerox’s site, so go there first. It’s easier to access it there. Later, I got the CD to load by opening and closing the CD door. Before this, I installed the executable files individually, which didn’t work well because scanner would get hung up and not complete the scan. For a smooth installation, install from the CD’s menu page. I uninstalled everything and started over. I’ve read that others have downloaded directly from the Xerox site and have had problems, so I loaded from the CD first. Get the CD to launch properly, and load the software from there first using its menu. To get the updates (for both the driver and One Touch), I searched for Visioneer in Windows 10 and used the VisioneerUpdate.exe file to find updates. What’s confusing, is the directions say to NOT initially search for updates — makes no sense to me, especially when the site says to uninstall previous versions before downloading updates. It didn’t update later on its own, so, again, I used the Visioneer executable file to do it for me, and there were updates indicated, so this is worth doing. (I knew about this option because I read about it on Xerox’s site.) Again, I wouldn’t go directly to the Xerox site and update because it says there that one must first uninstall the previous versions. Btw, make sure scanner is connected to the computer and powered on before installing any software. If you need telephonic help, use the Xerox phone number that comes with the literature. I called a number that I found on-line, and was told that the serial number I provided wasn’t recognizable to them. I was going to call the number in the literature next , but I think I’ve fixed the problem. I think I had two problems with the installation, which is what is described above, and the other may be unique to me, but in case it’s not I mention it. I had to fully enable .NET Framework software in Windows 10. I was getting “failure to install MSI package” error messages (in text documents after failed installations). Most sites say to try various fixes for this for .NET Framework problem. I couldn’t find this program in the Control Panel/Program and Features/Uninstall, or Change window The reason I’ve read that it isn’t there is that it’s part of the Windows 10 Operating System, so it isn’t a later loaded program that would be listed. I later found it under Control Panel/Programs and Features/Turn Windows Features On or Off. It was there that I saw that I had version 4.8 Advanced Services. I fully enabled the “WCF Services” of this program by selecting the only de-selected option, which was “Http Activation”, and this software finally loaded well, along with others. I never touched this option, so it must come defaulted to not being fully enabled. I’m not a tech person, but I now understand, based on this experience, that one must have a fully enabled .NET Framework program to get even basic things like anti-virus software to install properly. (I’ve had software conflict problems, and had to reinstall antivirus software; it installed, but not properly until I fully enabled .NET Framework.) Perhaps this is a recent problem with Windows 10 updates upgrading .NET Framework without it being fully enabled.

    Fast. Accurate. Good feed tray

I used to use Brother all-in-one devices that were my real office workhorses back before Brother started using cheaper components that don’t last as long. I struggled finding replacements for ages before I resigned myself to having to have a separate printer and scanner rather than all in one device. Now I have a solid printer and I have this as my scanner. Actually, I have 2 of these scanners because they are portable enough that when I suspect that I will need it while in court (I am a criminal defense attorney), I can carry this in and hook it to my laptop in case the prosecution drops some paper discovery on me mid-trial and I need it in digital form ASAP. Reasonable size. Portable. Lightweight. And does a heck of a job with a quality feed tray mechanism. Nothing more I could ask for.

Very easy to use for “where’s the on switch” people

Sorry if the headline is a bit disparaging, but I bought this so my 70+ mother could scan old family photos and geneaology records, and her knowledge of the computer consists of the on switch, and my phone number if anything goes even slightly sideways. Day in and day out I might go a month or more, but for a major project like this I knew it would need to be super easy or I may as well just do the project my self. And wouldn’t you know it, I never heard a peep! (I did set it up for her, but it was nothing crazy, just the usual plug it in and install the software stuff.) She was able to either figure out the rest on her own, or call the tech support to work through the issues. This was bought to scan documents, tin prints, old black and white photos etc. so image quality kind of doesn’t matter so much. It was bought 100% with “is this easy for a retiree in her 70’s who still thinks fax machines are high tech” and the answer is yes.

    A very handy scanner

Scans are attached and speak for themselves, this is at the highest quality setting, 600 dpi. It comes with everything you need (power, USB A to USB B cable), it scans reasonably quickly even at higher quality settings, I was able to scan about 50 family photos in one afternoon after work. I haven’t personally yet had need for the feature to scan a pile of documents loaded onto the tray, but I assume I could get it to work if I needed to. I like that it’s reasonably light weight, without feeling especially fragile, and can easily be stored elsewhere if I don’t want it sitting on my desk. The software for this is easy to use for those vaguely experienced, otherwise a little wheel spinning is to be expected. Beyond the scanner driver, install the OneTouch software included on the CD, also readily available from Xerox’s website when searching “Xerox Duplex Combo Scanner Drivers Software” — without quotes. They also bundle in an optional Optical Character Recognition software, Alyssa, to make scanned documents searchable; if none of that sounds like something you’re worried about, you don’t need it. My concern was to digitize some old family photos, so I didn’t install that optional inclusion either. There are quite a few optional features in the OneTouch software, scan to folder, scan to email, etc. things that your enterprise IT department might care about your average user should just scan to a folder. The software looks a little retro to me, but it works just fine in 2021, UI aesthetics for something like this aren’t that critical.Installation is pretty simple, drivers are only available for Windows, so Linux users can either passthrough the USB device to a VM or boot into Windows.

    Decent Scanner with Un-intuitive Software

My old Epson scanner recently died so I was forced into buying a replacement. I don’t like printer/scanner combos so I wound up buying this Xerox scanner. My first problem was figuring out basic functionality. The software was not intuitive at all to me. I was previously using an older version of the Hamrick software with my Epson since Epson dropped all support for my model. I considered it fairly intuitive and flexible. The software included with the Xerox was, to me, confusing and overly complicated. Simply getting a successful scan out was not possible for me without a lot of trial and error. There was no manual included in the box but the manual was supposedly on the enclosed CD -it wasn’t! I got the online version of the manual but it was a generic amalgamation for many models of scanner with many caveats of “applies to certain models only”. It did help somewhat but I have yet to master the software idiosyncrasies and I continue to fumble through it. I don’t tend to scan very often so it’s going to be difficult to become truly proficient. One nice feature of the scanner itself was it scanning both sides of a duplex print with only one pass. It also automatically recognizes color/gray-scale which is handy. It can even recognize print orientation automatically and correct it in the scan without user interaction. The major complaint I have about the scanner itself is the difficulty in scanning a page from a large book since the scanner top hinges on one side and it cannot be completely removed for ease of use. It is also a little slow to start especially with the cumbersome software. Once going, however, it easily handles multi-page scans effectively. Unless you frequently need to scan thick, large books, I do recommend the scanner. My only other qualm about is how long the unit will last and whether it will be dropped from software support as my old Epson was.

The power of this product is in the software – GREAT!

But first the hardware. The scanner is compact and light – compact and light enough to tuck under your arm and carry anywhere. It uses a wall wart for AC power and connects to the computer through a USB port. I’ve fed hundreds of pages through the document feeder and the only time it has jammed is when I carelessly fed a torn out magazine page with rough edges or a page that was rumpled and had to be smoothed.I purchased my scanner in October 2019 and with it came One Touch 4.6 software. After installing the software on a Windows 7 computer an icon is then available on the Windows task bar. Right clicking on the icon will bring up the One Touch 4.6 dialog with all of the configuration features. The default configuration (as I recall) is Auto Page HQ (pdf), ColorDetect 300 dpi, 8.5 x 14″ duplex. Essentially this means you install the software, load pages in the automatic feeder, click the scan button (first photo) on the icon, and the end result is multiple color pages that can be saved to a pdf document. You don’t have to read any manual or learn anything to get this far – and to be frank – that is all I did initially to convert hard copy to pdf. With reference to the above process you should know that it is another piece of software Abbyy (yes that is spelled correctly as it appears on its banner) FineReader 12 Sprint that amplifies what One Touch initiates. The Abbyy window (third photo) opens with the scan. The automatic document feeder runs through the pages rapidly doing color duplex in a single pass but it takes Abbyy a bit of time to process the scan – maybe 30 seconds or so to do a pdf scan of 10 pages (don’t hold me to the time that will also depend on the computer). Once a scan is complete you can make changes like those below before saving. The only issue I discovered – if you can call it an issue – is that every new scan opens a new Abbyy window. Just close Abbyy after each save to prevent a screen full of windows when doing multiple scans. My photo of the Abbyy window only shows a single page scan but the left panel is a column that will show all of the pages if multiples were done. You can scroll up and down this column and at the same time add pages from a previous scan or delete pages from the current scan. For example in my scan of magazine articles I deleted all of the full page advertisements.Abbyy has other features as does One Touch but I’ve only delved into those needed for my task. I did make a One Touch configuration change when I came across a page that showed a night (black photo) with some grays and some white text. Understandably the scanner in its Colordetect mode had troubles showing the original image. I easily created a new One Touch configuration for such pages. New configurations can be created to make adjustments to grayscale, resolution, brightness, contrast, and even gamma so one can get deeply into the software if desired. I have yet to look for a manual.I’ve included with the review photos of the One Touch icon, the One Touch dialogue, and the Abbyy FineReader 12 window.

Setup is a bear, works great when done

The Installation Guide is awful. The box contents (pictures, not words) listed an item that was not included, and did not list an item that was (appears to be a spare dingus for the document feeder). The software had to be downloaded, and the URL address was incorrect; if I wasn’t experienced with searching Web sites to find drivers, I’d have been on the phone to Tech support. The instructions for installing the software (screen shots) were so small that I could only read them with a magnifying glass.Using the scanner is easy. I used it to digitize four years’ worth of an organization’s minutes into PDF files. Love that when scanning duplex, the software automatically discards blank pages. One “feature” is that the resulting PDF files are HUGE. I used Adobe Acrobat to reduce the files to perhaps 20% of their original size (no loss of fidelity).Be sure to download and read the user guides. Very useful.I would recommend this scanner.
