Amazing versatal monitor and excellant buy. Review of the View Sinic VX2452MH

First off this monitor has stunning detail and clarity in all regards. Text is bright, defined and easy to read. The Video on this monitor looks as good or better than it does on my 42″ Samsung LED HD TV. The games I play also look better on this monitor than the other monitors I own (which include these 22 and 23 inch monitors. ViewSonic VA2246M, a HP 2159M and an Acer G236HL.The refresh rate at 60Hz could be better, and compared to an old school CRT it seems to slow frame rate a little more than I care for, but the frame rate was measured from a basic low end PC, with an Intel 2000 onboard graphics adapter, and can be resolved by a simple graphics card upgrade (with a GeForce 630 the frame rate is very acceptable for my purposes). The addition of an HDMI input is a nice addition and is a useful addition compared to other monitors in this price range. (HDMI/DVI/VGA and audio inputs are easily accessible). After setting this monitor up, and comparing it to the other monitors I’m using. The color and detail, and contrast is what has really impressed me. At a price near the $160.00 mark, this monitor would seem to priced in the lower echelon of desktop monitors (let alone multimedia units). But it’s performance seems to reach well above other monitors in this price range. I did play with the color balance a little and it helped to create a more realistic palate when browsing photo’s and video. But right out of the box the colors were brighter, with more detail than on the other monitors I’ve mentioned above. None of those monitors had the crispness in the whites, the deep blacks, or depth of color this monitor has, and none are even close after making a few minor adjustments in the monitors menu pannel. As with most monitors the panel of adjustments are easy to reach and use, and the Intel display adjustments allow for fast easy onscreen preview when adjusting this monitor (which did not require a great deal of tuning to satisfy my needs. In addition to the great color, detail and contrast, other options this monitor offers could make it attractive for many buyers.1. The game mode option adjust contrast, and might or might not be something I use in the future, but it’s there and might come in useful.2. The mounting options give the monitor some flexibility and at this size I could see mounting it on a wall for various uses.3. Built in 2 watt SRS Audio might be attractive in many environments.4 The weight, it is very lite for a 24″ monitor which makes handling quick and easy.5. Streaming Video from YouTube – Amazon Prime and Netflix on this monitor is as good as it gets. As I said the monitor looks as good or better than my Samsung HD TV. (unlike the other monitors I own this monitor re-creates a true HD experience.I’m sure there are other things to consider, and these few might or might not be on everyone’s list, but at least a couple were on mine.Over all Not owning a monitor over $200.00 I cannot really compare this unit to one of the higher rated displays. But rating it at a monitor closer to $150.00 mark than the $200.00 price range I can say my initial reaction is that if your thinking about it’s a very good bet.The assembly should take maybe two minutes if your slow (meaning fast and easy). The resulting construction feels solid and it sits square without wobble on my desk.I did not try the speakers, since I have a set that I enjoy and at 2 watts the speakers were not a part of my purchasing decision.I was hoping for at least good color and detail and I believe that this monitor does an excellent job and surpasses my hopes in those regards.Even attached as a basic workstation monitor, this monitor expands the basic productivity that my other monitors provide in that regard. The actual display at 23.6″ is large enough to create a smooth easy transition between multiple tasks… However this monitor goes far beyond a basic workstation unit and does a very good to excellent job in multimedia and gaming situations as well (matched with a PC designed for gaming I think it would be a very good choice as an entry level gaming monitor as well). Finally I’m Extremely happy with this purchase, and would recommend it as a great choice for an everyday 24″ display.

ViewSonic VX2452MH Display – My Review & Answers For A Few Conflicting Questions

I’ve had it about a month now and it’s fantastic! My six year old 25″ HANNspree display was suffering from mainboard related issues that would have cost around the same as this price to fix, so buying a new one instead was a no-brainer for me. Being a PC repair technician I have four wide screen displays in my work room here and this one is the one that’s used the most… the one inch “downgrade” to this 24″ isn’t noticeable at all but the clarity of this one blows the other three and the defective one it replaced away! And as usual, Amazon had it at my door exactly when they said it would be here and in perfect shape! It was out of the box and brilliantly displaying on my Windows 7 system in less than 20 minutes. It initially showed up in Device manager as “Generic Display”, but installing the driver files included on the CD remedied that in no time… the instructions on how to do that are on the included CD. NOTE: installing the driver files is NOT necessary and provides no benefit other than showing the correct make & model. I read every single review and question on several comparable displays before purchasing this one and I’d like to clarify a couple things that had me a little confused from conflicting answers by other reviewers on this display. This display DOES tilt forward & back – the base does not swivel or extend up & down. Some folks complained about the base being really flimsy… I find it just as sturdy as any other display’s plastic base myself. The screen is non-glare with a matte finish, only the black plastic casing around the screen is high gloss. I have direct sunlight shining straight onto mine for about an hour every morning and the reflection from the CASE practically blinds me, but the screen itself remains perfectly clear without any distortion or glare at all.It has connections for basic VGA, DVI and HDMI. A DVI to DVI plus a standard VGA cable are provided in the box (No HDMI cable included). It also has connections for the internal speakers and a headphone jack.I had to adjust NOTHING on this display at all using the provided DVI to DVI cable. I have not tried the HDMI connection but several reviewers complained about this display being far too bright when first connected… that may be the case using HDMI but I didn’t experience that using the DVI cable that came with it.The clarity of the built-in speakers is OK for basic use but certainly nothing close to high quality. This isn’t a problem for me as I have a surround sound system, but the headphone jack does come in handy at times. The On-Screen-Display and the accompanying buttons on the front aren’t as confusing as some people make them out to be… but I DID read the manual on the CD before playing around with them. I’d suggest to the folks that had problems to do likewise, it’s relatively basic stuff. Other than the power button there’s only four others with icons above them and they’re all pretty much self-explanatory.If I can think of anything else or have a change in my satisfaction level I will surely update this review, but at the moment I’m more than satisfied with this display and I not only would recommend it to somebody else… I have. To my mother-in-law… and that’s not something I’d normally do 🙂

ViewSonic VX2452MH: You’re Not Gonna Get Much Better for $169

I was in a bit of a jam on Friday April 11. I woke up that day and opened my trusty MacBook Pro, and that’s when I heard it. A sound. A bad sound. A horrible, gut-wrenching sound that was somewhat akin to a meat grinder creating a pile of sausages for some kind of sausage party. And that sound was coming from my laptop. After running around in pure panic for a little while, I decided that no matter what was going on, it was time to replace my 5-year-old computer. So, I purchased a great Mac mini (i7 quad core with 8GB RAM), but then needed something to see the computer do its thing. A monitor, if you will.I looked at Apple’s monitor offering… a $999 monstrosity that I’m sure is very nice. But I wasn’t going to spend that kind of money. I work in graphic design among other areas of marketing, so a good monitor is pretty darn important to my life. Back in the days of CRT monitors, I’d used a ViewSonic, and had nothing but good experiences with them. But that was in the ’90s, and a lot changed since then. Like my hairline, and waistband. The monitor arrived very quickly. I am always amazed at how fast things arrive from Amazon, even though I almost always opt for the free shipping. I put in the included power cable, then plugged it into the Mac mini using a single HDMI cable that I’d purchased for the occasion. I fired up the computer and presto-bango, the monitor roared to life. Well, it didn’t roar, really. It quietly came on, and I was impressed right away. Everything was nice and crisp. I tested out some high-res graphic files, and colors looked really good.Let’s be frank: this isn’t one of ViewSonic’s best monitors, nor is it designed for graphic work. It’s a gaming monitor designed for people who want a nice 24″ screen without spending big money. The build quality is decent, but you can see that not a lot of work went into making the areas where the cable connect very pretty. My answer to that? Who cares! It’s a nice monitor that cost very little. I use it for everything from print ad creation through video editing through web design, and it works just fine.I’ve also used it to watch movies, and play games (as it was intended). Everything functions just fine. All pixels are happily lit. The stand does its job, though there’s not much adjustability to it. Considering the price, I have no complaints, and would recommend this to anyone who, like me, wants a pretty good monitor without spending a ton of cash.

This monitor is NOT 60 hz, it is 75 hz!

I was looking for a decent second 60 hz monitor to watch YouTube videos on while I game or work on my main monitor. Unfortunately this monitor is 75 hz native refresh rate and NOT 60 hz like the specifications that are listed for this monitor. Literally the title for this monitor is ViewSonic VX2452MH 24 Inch 2ms 60Hz 1080p Gaming Monitor which is false. I still gave it 5 stars for being a decent monitor but I’m unfortunately going to have to return it because I was specifically looking for a 60 hz display. I’m surprised more reviews don’t mention this.

Very nice monitor for the price

When I ordered this monitor, I was not sure what to expect. I must say, I am pleasantly surprised and pleased with how good the picture quality is. Very bright vivid color, good clear picture, no fuzziness or blurring at all. I like the way they use a plastic lens to shine the blue power light forward. Kind of a unique design. I also like that it has 3 different video input connections so that you can use it on anything from an old computer to a brand new one. In this price class this is an excellent monitor.

Stunning Game Visuals at a reasonable price

After my old Acers died, I decided it was time to step it up to 1080P. However, even for someone that has worked with computers for nearly 25 years; monitors are extremely difficult to buy. In fact, it took me 3 weeks to finally pull the trigger on a pair of these VX2452MHs over the equivilent Asus, Acer, and BenQ low response gaming monitors. On to the review, which is going to be short, from a dual-screen perspective, and about 3 days of usage. I’m going to try to answer questions that I initially asked myself about the screens as part of the review. Additionally, I’m not using the 2W speakers and I immediately mounted these guys to a dual-screen stand, bypassing the unadjustable OEM stands. So, are they easy to setup?Very easy, my screens are currently connected to my PC via DVI, and the visual quality of these monitors is indeed stunning right out of the box. Just to note, inserting the cables can be a bit of a pain because you have to *lightly* push down on the plastic back to get the connectors to plugin; so make sure to take your time with the external setup. Once powered on, the screen takes 2 seconds to turn on, and they are very bright, so make sure to turn them down a bit.How about dead pixels?I bought two screens and neither had any dead pixels. Is it a glossy screen?Nope, its also an anti-glare screen. How about the buttons and menu? The control buttons sits under the right bottom edge of the monitor and the menu is very functional, easy to read, and every setting is adjustable – even the response time. That’s nice, but are they good for PC gaming? To be completely honest with you, the screens are so good that you don’t have to adjust any setting other than the brightness. When you switch over to ‘game mode’ the response shoots down to 2MS and there is absolutely zero ghosting in games such as BF4, Terraria, and Left 4 Dead 2 at 1080P/60hz. I plan to try GTAV, and Shadow of Mordor as soon as I have a chance to download them again, but I’m sure they’ll be even more stunning than before. My end goal is to manually adjust the screens, but I havent had the need as of yet.So you really like them?Yes, for the price tag versus performance they are excellent. You won’t be able to get a better 24 Inch LED TN panel at this price outside of Black Friday. In my opinion, ViewSonic did an excellent job making sure these killer screens were well worth the price tag. Just keep in mind that these are GAMING monitors, so people looking to buy these for web design, video editing, and photo shop may have a different opinion. I suspect a lot of the lower star reviews are non-gaming reviews.

    Adequate basic monitor

I bought this because I needed a monitor, any monitor, to use with a couple of devices with HDMI output. This monitor has overall done a good job for the price, but it has some quirks that you should know about before choosing it.Pros:* Works. No dead pixels.* Reasonably fast to wake up.* The “2” button is a one-press shortcut to switch inputs.* Power supply is internal (no brick on the floor).Cons and quirks:* No built-in USB hub.* The onscreen menu is handled by four buttons in a row: “1 2 ↓ ↑”, where “1” is usually “back/exit” and “2” is usually “select”. It’s slightly tricky to remember which button to push, all of the ranged controls (like brightness/contrast) have to be selected and then changed and it doesn’t display this clearly, and the “Memory Recall” function, which resets all settings, is in the main menu and has no confirmation so it’s easy to press by accident.* Occasionally has a blip of static a couple seconds after switching source (not recurring, so not really a problem).* Cannot be easily made dim enough for comfortable night-time use; there isn’t much brightness range and what there is is tedious to adjust.* Stand has only a tilt adjustment. (When vertical, the height from the tabletop to the bottom edge of the image is 12 cm or 4.5 inches.)* When I connected it to a BeagleBone Black running Linux in text mode, the image was shifted downward about five pixels, so that the bottom line of text is partly cut off (can’t see the cursor underscore). This may be a quirk of the BBB, or it may be that the monitor has trouble correctly aligning images which are solid black on the top and bottom edges (wouldn’t think that would be a problem in pure digital inputs, though).Mixed-bag notes:* The clear plastic ring at the bottom center is a giant blue power light. It can be disabled in the menu. But it turns amber in sleep mode and this cannot be disabled.* Automatically tries other sources when one goes away. So if you have two computers connected and you put one to sleep it’ll display the other one, which is convenient. On the other hand, it’s terrible if you have, say, a Chromecast plugged in to the HDMI port (which *always* provides a signal). This function cannot be disabled.Complete list of ports on the back:* AC power in* Line audio out* Headphones out* HDMI in* DVI in* VGA in

and thought “this look like an excellent monitor for $200

I bought this monitor about a year ago, a year and two months to be exact. I looked at the reviews, and thought “this look like an excellent monitor for $200!(that was the price when I bought it at the time)” So i went ahead and bought the monitor. It arrived, and it was straight away plugged into my old computer. It looked great. Good to the point where it needed almost no color correction, right out of the box. Then a couple months went by, and I’m still using the monitor. Then it happens. Suddenly black, nothing. I thought my computer just quit on me. I looked at my mouse and keyboard, but the lights were still on. After about five minutes of trying to figure it out, I found that the power cable was loose. Great. so now every time your desk moves a little bit, the connection will cut out. Power is gone. That is annoying, so I eventually just taped the power cord to the monitor, which works. Now on to my second complaint, everything look sharp, text, pictures, and even video game, on this monitor. Except one thing… videos. The videos on this monitor look atrocious, absolutely horrible. And i know for fact that it isn’t my internet quality. Its just that this screen is terrible, and I mean TERRIBLE, for watching videos. I don’t know why, but it looks like it is streaming at 144p. Which is unacceptable.Other than those tow extremely annoying things, it does what it is supposed to do. I only wish that the power cord and videos were like other monitors. IF those were fine, and it everything was good, I might have bought another monitor from View Sonic. But that is not the cae, next time I will be shopping and buying, from different companies.

migrating from large CRT’s? go bigger in an LCD

I recently needed to replace my Viewsonic 20″ CRT monitors on my everyday computer setup. I’ve had 20-21″ monitors for nearly 20 years and dual 20 or 21’s for the last 12-13. Got use to all the desktop real estate and then couldn’t live without it.One of mine developed a power supply problem and there’s no one around to fix them anymore. I still prefer CRT monitors, the color is richer and there’s much more flexibility. I was reluctantly going to flat panels.I bought a pair of 20″ Viewsonic LCD’s thinking it would be the same as what I had. I did a ton of research before I bought, this was my first flat panel purchase and I got up to speed on all the specs to compare and look for. The one thing I didn’t see anything about was how to buy when you are switching from CRT’s to LCD’s. Especially if you are already using big monitors. The 20″ Viewsonics had good specs, but where not in the ball park with my 20″ CRT’s. Didn’t come close to the same resolution. I returned them and got a pair of these 24″ Viewsonics.Going to the 24″ LCD’s from the 20″ CRT’s is close to a vertical upgrade. Same width resolution as the CRT, less height, but that’s the thing about LCD’s. They have a fixed resolution to run them at, and they won’t go over that, even if your video card can. It’s nice to not have million pound monitors to deal with, (~60, actually), and they are crisper for most of the stuff I do on this system. Certainly a good monitor for the price. Especially considering I paid $1000 for the first 21″ CRT I bought, and it was used.If you are upgrading from large CRT’s,you definitely need to look at the resolution limit of the LCD’s and I recommend you go bigger if you want a comparable setup when you’re done.

    Great Monitor

These are great monitors. We have been buying them for work for the last couple of months. I have yet to receive a defective one or any with dead/stuck pixels. I think we have purchased 20 or so total now. Nice large, vibrant monitors with lots of input options (HDMI, VGA, DVI). It also has a 3.5 mm audio plug if you don’t use the HDMI connection but you want to use the monitors speakers (which aren’t great but you are buying a monitor for the image quality not the speakers!).Easy to setup (tools aren’t required to attach the stand base) and windows 7 doesn’t need any drivers to use the monitor (do any monitors need drivers that aren’t built in to windows now adays?).If you are looking for a rock solid LED/LCD monitor, look no further. I have been using viewsonic for almost 15 years (for lcd monitors) and I still have my original 19″ lcd monitor at home working. I have never had one fail on me and I don’t expect to have any fail on me any time soon. The only reason I continue to buy new ones are to get larger screens and wide screen aspect ratios. This monitor has been my favorite so far.

    Disappointing

To put this review into perspective, I purchased this monitor to replace a 6 year old HP LP2065 20″ LCD monitor which is not HDCP compliant. On installing this monitor, I noted that the image was bright and lacking in contrast. Brightness and contrast are adjustable in the manual mode in the menu. Adjustments made the image better, but was still lacking in black level performance. Fine text was definitely softer than that on the HP monitor. When scrolling text, a yellow smear was visible trailing the text. This effect was mostly eliminated when switching to the “Game” mode. However, switching to this mode sets the brightness and contrast to fixed values. They are no longer manually adjustable. I had attended a wedding and took pictures with my digital camera. I processed the raw files and adjusted them the best I could based on the monitor’s image. I had trouble getting them to look right. The color accuracy of this monitor is definitely sub-par. When I printed some of these pictures, they were dark and dull looking, not at all how they looked on the screen. I put back the old HP monitor and looked at the processed images. They were dark and dull on the screen, exactly how they printed. I reprocessed the raw files and now have good looking prints. At this point, I packed up the monitor for return. It cost me just under $15 to ship it back. Lesson learned. Here is a summary:ProsHDCP compliantInexpensiveLight weightBright imageNo hot or dead pixelsGood horizontal viewing angleComes with a complete set of cablesConsNo height adjustmentMediocre black levelPoor vertical viewing angleInaccurate colorsScroll smearVery limited image adjustmentsUnsuitable for photographic image processingSoft fine textThis monitor would be suitable for non image critical applications or gaming where its fast response and bright image would be a plus. As for me, I’ll be shopping for something better.

Good for the price with just a few issues…

Monitor’s picture looks great after you play with the settings, but the settings reset every time the monitor shuts off and I have to input them again. I don’t know if it’s just a glitch or if that’s the way it’s meant to be for some reason? The speakers are decent for a monitor, but don’t expect great sound. It’s pretty quiet, even at full volume, which is why I have mine plugged into a speaker system. Other than those little issues, I’d recommend just for a budget set up or something cheap to game on if you’re low on money. Worth it for the price.

This is a really good monitor for the price

I primarily use this product for gaming on my PC and occasionally Xbox. Overall the monitor is perfect for a desktop setup considering the size. I have not had any problems with the monitor at all, the customization options are simple and effective as well as the portability just in case you do need to move it. I fell in love with this monitor and have already bought three of them for my personal setup at home. I recommend this product to anyone trying to get a nice monitor for an affordable price. Some things you may want to look out for are the sound quality and the material quality. The volume of the monitor does not go very high and doesn’t sound the best so I would recommend a speaker along with it. The quality of the back panel is strong but is only hard plastic so it is vulnerable to some damage in that respect. Other than that I have no other problems with the monitor and I am very pleased with my purchase.

    Great value

I bought this monitor as a replacement monitor and to possibly use in a dual-monitor setup. The reason I chose this particular model was because of price and the inclusion of HDMI input. It happened to go on sale so I swooped on the deal price and I have to say that I’m pretty pleased with my purchase. I don’t game much on my PC, so I can’t speak much for that aspect, I was mainly wanting to purchase this as a casual use monitor with HDMI ports in case I wanted to plug in a gaming console every now and then and this fits the bill. For the bit of gaming that I actually use this for, it works great. the response time is good and the colors are fine, but not the best.Speakers are what you’d expect from built in 2w speakers(garbage), but anyone that knows electronics should know that from the specs. I have my external speaker system for that though, so these speakers don’t even get used aside from when I initially tested them. All in all, this is a very adequate monitor considering the price compared to others with similar features.

    Useful product

I’ve owned ViewSonic monitors before and have always liked the quality. I purchased this particular monitor for use on my workbench due to its variety of inputs. Most any PC that I work on will connect to this monitor without adapters. The enclosed speakers eliminate the need for separate external speakers. I only wish the speakers were a little higher watt.

    Good second monitor.

I already own a ViewSonic VX2753 monitor. I was looking for a second monitor for working from home. I was pleased with ViewSonic already so I looked on Amazon to find a good deal. I was pleased to find this ViewSonic VX2452 used for sale on Amazon. I am surprised this smaller monitor loads faster than my larger monitor. I use the second monitor to watch YouTube while I watch Tubi on the primary monitor. I am also pleased with the price point for this used monitor. If I was never told by ViewSonic I was receiving a used monitor I would never tell the difference. The packaging, and boxing all looked brand new. I would purchase another used ViewSonic from this seller again.

Nice picture, but sound is not even tolerable.

For the price, the picture is nice and I have no dead pixels. However, the sound is so dismal that were it not for the deeply discounted price I paid, I would return it. It is sad to say it would not be an exaggeration to say the sound is _literally_ no better than a string attached to a tin can; (really… literally). It is is _that_ bad. For that reason, I decided to not use the HDMI cable from my computer to the screen; (which, when used, give you no choice but to use the internal tin-can-speaker system). Instead, I attached my Digital DVI cable between my computer and the Viewsonic Display, which allowed me to use an external speaker. I was previously using my (20 year old) top of the line Dell Display which had an optional “sound bar” attached to the bottom with two small screws. I removed the sound bar and now have it laying behind this Viewsonic Display. *NOW* the quality of the sound matches the quality of the picture.[Short Version]: If you must use this Viewsonic Display (or any Viewsonic model within this price range), along with an HDMI cable, be prepared for _horrific_ sound in which my analogy of “a string and a tin can” is extremely accurate. The problem with using HDMI is that you have no choice but to use the internal tin-can sound system.NOTE: I tried a few of the Viewsonic models in this price range. Apparently, anything under $150 gets you a string and a tin can for a sound system. It truly is pathetic, and were it not for this issue I’d give the Display 5 stars… especially for the price.

    Great monitor for programming dotnet

[+] THE REVIEW:I got this monitor for programming code. I am not going to speak to the monitor’s color accuracy. I am assuming if you really want to have tuned color you need to use a hardware device to color correct any monitor you purchase. I don’t have that hardware. The colors, as far as the naked eye goes, look great. As mentioned you need to first adjust the brightness and contrast. I turned mine down to 40%. I did not make any other color corrections. The 1080p works great for dotnet programming with visual studio. The wider screen allows me to have my toolbox and my properties windows active all the time without it interfering with the space to design the form. It actually works better than expected. For this price I am really glad I took a chance and purchased this monitor.[Update: 11/19/2014]The more I use this monitor the more I really love it. I am so use to using it now that I prefer it to my laptop screen. I stream HD video to watch Amazon Instant Videos, and it is perfect. When I looked at the price I paid, I forgot it was so low. I highly recommend buying this monitor if you are a programmer or just want to watch anything in HD.[Update: 5/27/2018]I’m still using this monitor about 4 years later, and it works great. No dead pixels and color remains perfect.

    Works very well, thankyou, however….

Good screen, well built, good sound. However, older LED TVs do one thing better. At least for me. They used to MUTE the speaker if you had headphones plugged in, so the sound was there automatically for me when I put the headphones on. Seems a humane thing to do, since I turn it on late at nite, and don’t want speakers blaring for even a second while my wife wants to sleep.TODAY’S TVs including this Viewsonic do it differently: They ASSUME you have a SOUNDBAR if you have something plugged into the headphone jack. Then, you get no sound WHATEVER until you wake up the soundbar too. Universal remote controls can run a TV and a DVR device simultaneously, but NOT A THIRD DEVICE [the now obligatory soundbar]. VERY annoying. As a side issue NOT related to this very nice TV, I now have so many control wires running between my many devices, I better not have a house fire, because there’s no way for the insurance company to figure out what went wrong and pay a claim. I’d have to sell the wreckage to a copper recycler.

    Video=Win! Stand=fail.

I was really torn reading all the mixed reviews, but I got greedy wanting the best features for a low price. So here’s the scoop… Let’s start with video playback. I loaded a 1080p copy of a pixar film and it was drop dead gorgeous, and the viewing angel is amazingly clear at wide angles! I could not test the 4k because my pc does not output 4k.. ok, now for the negatives. 2ms response time leaves bright yellow trails on fast moving items in games. I HAD to turn it back to 5ms for good looking gameplay. The only possible use of the 2ms response use might be in an audio recording rig. The picture quality does take tinkering, but even after dialing it in theres ever so slight of an overexposed brightness, and the right edge of the screen has a hint of grey fade but you REALLY have to have a good eye to see these 2 flaws, still yet they do exist. The stand… omg this stand.. I hate this peg-post single screw stand. Yes it tilts, but even as I write this review each keypress can be seen in a jiggle of the monitor, very distracting. Almost immediatly wanted to box it back up. This monitor WILL reqire an aftermarket stand, bracket, or wall mount. Oh, and keep those desktop speakers handy. You will be using them instead of these that are built in. Overall I have already got my return label, and will give it the remainder of 30 days before deciding if I want to buy a stand, and live with the slight overexposure. The only reason it’s not already in the box is because video looks sooo good on it. I do feel a bit fooled by the price though as I’ll have to buy a stand, and I’ll never see the advantage of the 2ms response time. If I return it I’ll be looking for something with 5ms, no built in speakers, no 4k. Maybe given those criteria I can save a further $40.Pro’sGorgeous Video! All input types/cables included (no HDMI cable)Accessible buttons, and you CAN force the power light offScreen does tilt back a bitCan be returned within 30 daysCon’sThe included stand is a total fail, no support2ms response time unusable in games/daily useVery, very, slight overexposure remains after tweekingalso a very light grey fade along the right edge of screen

Average for text, very good for images. Low sound. Good value for money.

I needed a replacement for my high-end 4:3 Philips monitor. The replacement needed to have VESA mount provisions so I could reuse the adjustable VESA mount on the Philips. I also wanted reasonable sounding built-in speakers.I’ve spent considerable time using the VX2452MH’s on-screen adjustments, but the text quality and contrast fall short of the Philips’ performance. My assessment has not changed after ten days of use. Other than that, the image is good and graphics and streaming videos look good. The sound out of the speakers is OK, but just lacking the fullness of even small external speakers. No surprise there, however the speaker volume with the PC and monitor controls fully high is a medium level at best and certainly never loud. Not acceptable if you plan on being more that a desk’s width away from the monitor. One last thing is that the diagonal is 24-1/2″ not 24″ if that matters to you (The vertical screen dimension is the same as a 19-inch 4:3 monitor, and 1/2″ shorter than a 21-inch 4:3).

Bought at about $160, definitely worth price. Great product.

Excellent – does exactly what I expected it to, and looks great. Colors are mostly true initially, and that can be adjusted if it is a big deal for you as far as hues and saturation and such. Excellent 1080p viewing and the game mode works amazingly with games – everything is easier to see and all that good jazz with game modes on monitors and such (I’m fairly new to advanced next gen gaming and all that – until recently my newest system was a Wii).If displaying pure black, there’s a little bit of bleed around the edges, but it’s really only noticeable when it is truly an extremely dark color. I looked through quite a few monitors and reviews before deciding on this one and am overall very satisfied with this purchase – perfect for a 24in monitor for a multipurpose work desk. The stand is a bit flimsy; I’ve seen and held monitors that you could carry around by the stand comfortably if you wanted to, and this is probably not one of those – but once it’s set up on your desk it looks plenty sleek and sharp. I actually end up moving my monitor occasionally and it’s no problem unscrewing the base and having the screen lay flat for storage if you don’t have the box still. Great product, no problems at all.

Nice View without Breaking the Bank

One major problem for me. The picture on this monitor is so sharp and bright that I found it slightly distracting. So I had to make a few adjustments on the menu like dialing down the brightness and contrast. Don’t get me wrong. This is a compliment. Usually I take the factory default settings and live with them. But this actually required some minor changes. In fact, I am using it right now.The disc that came with the unit was worthless to me, but I don’t think you really need it.By the way, I like all the little additions on this model so you have lots of options to plug in cables with 3 or 4 letters or even sound. It’s hard to count but I believe it came with speaker, VGA, DVI cables. I don’t recall seeing an HDMI cable but I have plenty of spare ones.It says it is certified for Windows 8, but seems to function just fine on 10. It would have been helpful to get this on sale, but I needed it like yesterday to replace an old dying unit. So far this works great and is strongly recommended for someone with a small crowded desk like mine.

So glad I bought this monitor……

I bought this monitor to use with my MacBook Pro, which is running MacOS Sierra. So happy with this purchase!!! Installation was simply. I plugged my monitor in, using the HDMI port. It was immediately recognized by my Mac. I only had to check the “mirror” box in the “System Preferences” and I was up and running. I didn’t have to mess with the resolution settings, at all. It works, looks beautiful, and is just wide enough to easily allow for two pages /documents on your screen, without using the “split screen” feature.I usually buy ViewSonic monitors, for my employer, so I naturally gravitated toward this brand. The monitors at my office usually last a very long time. After reading reviews, I found that ViewSonic is one of the best and cheapest brands for monitors.I’m very happy with my purchase.Keep in mind that if you are plugging this into a MacBook, you will probably need a mini-display port, to HDMI cord. I bought mine on Amazon for $10. It is the Benfei 4k Mini Displayport to HDMI 6′ cable; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0146N8BDO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 There are other ones to choose from, but this one works easily. It is a cord, not an adapter. Just plug the HDMI end (big end) into your monitor and the mini-display port (small end) into your MacBook. There are other brands, but this one had good reviews and seems to be a good quality product.

    Decent Monitor

Bought this to replace an old 22″ ViewSonic LCD monitor that was giving up. First impressions out of the box were similar to other comments here – MUCH lighter weight than my old monitor and yet quite wiggly on the provided stand. The first power-up without installing drivers provided very pale colors as others have stated. Also as previously stated, tinkering with the monitor’s menus provided no improvement as the color settings default to maximum from the factory. I was feeling disappointed, BUT, using the Windows’ monitor adjustments and installing the appropriate drivers markedly improved the colors. Some additional thoughts – I think part of the adjustment issue I had was not the fault of the monitor, but was simply the change from old LCD technology to LED lit screens, where as with room lighting LEDs provide a brighter, if somewhat harsher light source. Another change issue was the shift from the old standard sized and shaped monitor to a widescreen format that resulted in a monitor about two inches wider, but almost a full inch shorter in screen size. This somewhat deadened the effect of going to a “larger” screen, and has prompted me to start the search for a four inch stand to lift the monitor to center eye level and the best viewing angle.Don’t let the above comments appear too negative – after the above mentioned adjustments I am very happy with the monitor and would by it again without hesitation. My “gamer” son loves the high refresh speed and brighter picture and I loved the reasonable price. Need a good, reasonably priced monitor? Get it.

Great Monitor – Menu Rather Annoying, Crappy Speakers

As a digital artist and a gamer, choosing a good monitor is important. I have heard good things about the brand, and this monitor has not disappointed. The color is exactly what it should be (this is after calibration, of course) and the brightness can be adjusted quite extensively. Also, as a gamer, the monitor resolution is important so that the image is not distorted or limited. a 1080×1920 resolution is typically the highest resolution games support, even some games that go back over five years. The “Game Mode” feature is fantastic. I have had instances with very dark areas in games that this has helped me in, and it works well. Now for the bad. First off, the speakers are terrible for anything. I simply do not even bother using them at all. The included stand is a little bit wobbly, but you would need a very shaky desk for it to be a problem. Finally, the menu for adjusting monitor setting (this is built into the monitor, not part of Microsoft Windows) is difficult to navigate, and I have run into instances where I get stuck in a sub-menu and cannot navigate out. Also, the buttons are sharp and not very pleasant to press, but its easy to tell which button is which. All in all, I think this was a great purchase. I would definitely recommend it to a friend. I would like to see ViewSonic build upon the results of this monitor and further improve it, but I don’t think I’ll be in the market for a new monitor for a while, unless of course I get a second one to duel-screen with, in which case, I’ll probably get another of these.

    Adequate for My Needs

I’m using this with a mini PC that is mounted on the back of the monitor. I wanted to try my hand at animation and needed a reasonably good monitor. It is a good step up from my Chromebook. An unexpected surprise is that the monitor has its own speakers. They are not great but seem to work okay. The base for the monitor was easy enough to assemble (no tools required) and took only a minute or two to put together. There are several buttons under the right bottom edge of the screen, one being the the power button. Several cables are included; unfortunately, a HDMI cable was not included.I am satisfied with my purchase. Providing it doesn’t die in the near future, it should be fine.Edit: I was having trouble with the volume buttons and adjusting the volume for the monitor speakers. After I downloaded the driver for this monitor, that problem went away. I advise downloading the driver from the ViewSonic website after receiving this monitor. It appears to be a necessity.

From “oh no!” to “oh wow!!” in 60 minutes….

Received my ViewSonic VX2452MH 24-inch monitor today and after initially being disappointed and concerned, I have to say that I love the display. Few things to point out. 1- The stand feels a bit flimsy so be careful with it. 2- I purchased the AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable to go with the monitor since my Dell Studio XPS PC had an HDMI output. This is where I was disappointed. Once I had everything plugged in, I couldn’t get the screen resolution right. The text was not sharp. It was kinda fuzzy no matter what website I was on. The desktop would not fill the whole screen even after playing with the screen settings and installing the correct drivers from the CD that came with it. “Game Mode” setting did not help at all. It just adjusted the brightness, contrast and colorization. I was so bummed out that I nearly packed the monitor back up to prepare for a return and refund. I tried one last thing before boxing it up. I hooked up the DVI cable that came with the monitor instead of the HDMI. That’s how the old monitor was hooked up so I gave it a shot. I removed the HDMI and then plugged in the DVI cable. HOLY COW what a difference!! The desktop filled the entire screen and everything looked nice and sharp. No fuzz. What a relief! So in case you have a similar problem with the HDMI hooked up, try the DVI cable instead. Very satisfied with the outcome. This monitor is excellent now. Very nice.

    There are better options

I purchased this as the display component to a new PC build I was working on, which ended up never coming to fruition, and as such, I returned it. However, I still have some things to say. When I was looking for a solid, affordable 1080p monitor, this model immediately caught my eye, namely for its relatively high average rating and its above par response time (2ms vs the standard 5). I decided to buy it after reading several strongly positive reviews, praising its brightness, color reproduction accuracy as well as its viewing angles, the descriptions of which made this display seem a little too good to be true. As it turns out, I was mostly right. It came very well packaged, and with a plethora of cables to boot (DVI, VGA, and aux), which gave me a great first impression. As I set it up (which was a very straightforward process), I immediately noticed that the plastic bezel styling appeared somewhat gaudy and notably cheap, which was the first aspect of many in this item to disappoint. I decided I could live with this, so long as the quality of the screen justified it. Sadly. I cannot say that it did. After hooking it up to my machine via DVI, I was instantly let down by the viewing angles, which were so bad that any conceivable position I could take in front of the panel left one or more sizable portions of the screen incongruently colored and lit. I tried the other cable configurations, with the same result across all – utter mediocrity. The brightness was also a fairly large let-down, being decent at best in certain color modes, to downright pitiful in others (sRGB). This was not well complemented by the surprisingly acceptable response time, which, at 2ms, left no noticeable artifact ghosting on screen, and made for a more or less smooth feeling PC usage experience.Oddly, the speakers were surprisingly decent, with pretty nice volume levels and above average tonal range, although their positioning on the rear of the monitor made the sound seem rather distant at times.Verdict: For the price, I would certainly recommend looking for something else. There are much better options available on Amazon, for the same amount, give or take $20. Not the worst display in the world, but not one I would ever want to keep.

Bought this 3 years as a secondary monitor, and it’s still going strong. It’s nothing fancy, but price wise, at the time it was great. Viewsonic has always done all right by me, will always buy their products. Highly recommended if it was 2019. Will use until it dies.

I am pretty impressed. All of your standard inputs are here

For the price I paid to give my mother a “modern” monitor for her computer, I am pretty impressed. All of your standard inputs are here: DVI-D, VGA, and HDMI, along with a 3.5mm audio input. At 1920×1080, the picture is sharp enough at a distance of about 3 feet away. The colors are initially a little washed out from out of the box, but futzing with the settings produced a picture that I would consider optimal for competitive gaming (using DVI so far), along with the very low 2ms response time of the panel, it would serve any starting gamer with the best product for the money. My mother is using this for more screen space for work in her home office, which has passed with flying colors in her initial tests (web browsing, sorting through pictures, writing up product descriptions, publishing websites, etc.).Pros:Wide selection of inputs for 1080p sourcesVery quick and easy setup out of the box (throw out the disk, you won’t need it)Well packaged and secure within the boxIncluded DVI-D and VGA cables in the boxGreat response timeRelatively cheap for a good quality panelMatte screenCons:Colors are still a little washed out after messing with settingsAudio is horrible on the built-in speakersVery shiny, fingerprint prone bezel (easily fixed with a quick wipe-down)Final thoughts:I would recommend buying this for any small home office/business office, “noob” gamers getting into PC gaming, or for students needing extra screen space for editing/creating documents.

    Why buy anything else?

Now that I’m working from home again (thanks to Covid-19) I thought I’d upgrade my personal workspace to match my office with dual monitors. I purchased 2 of these screens and LOVE them.Good solid construction and quality that I trust. Please note HDMI CABLES are NOT included unless you order it that way (I did not because I have several existing cables).I also used a WALI Dual LCD Monitor Fully Adjustable Desk Mount Stand which takes the 100 x 100 mm universal mounts.I did see a couple of monitors that were half the price through Amazon, which to be honest I did purchase because I have GDD (Good Deal Disease). I bought the other SCEPTRE monitors but had to return them because of bad HDMI ports. You can read my reviews on those screens. So after straying, I came back to ViewSonic and thrilled to be back. Everything worked as expected on the first try. Picture quality is crisp, clean, bright and light. My experience with ViewSonic has been, and continues to be, fabulous. It’s a great value…so why by anything else?

    Happy I bought 2

I bought a pair of ViewSonic VX2452MH 24-Inch LED-Lit LCD Monitors for my office to be used with a free-standing Articulating Dual Monitor Stand. There are a number of ViewSonic 24″ displays in the $139 – $169 price range and this monitor is at the higher end of that range. It is very difficult to figure out what you actually get that is different as you move from the $139 price to the $169 price. Answer: Of these choices, this monitor has by far the quickest response time (2ms) and Dynamic Contrast Ratio (50,000:1) if that’s important. Probably is if you are gaming. Probably not if it’s for office use (like I am using it for). The most important reason I bought this over the others is that, according to the reviews, the other monitors clearly have some problems with the drivers and may take a lot of work to set up properly. These were literally plug and play. Worked right out of the box. Look great, although I did dim the brightness. Some folks have complained about the built-in speakers. For gaming, they really won’t do. For office, they work fine and it’s great to get my clunky speakers off the desk.Hint: there is a gaming mode toggle — simply press the up arrow. I don’t use it, but it’s nice to know how to find it. It’s also the only preset mode you can toggle.

Good monitor at a good price

I recently started downsizing from a Mac Pro to a Mac Mini and available ports are a concern so my 27″ Apple Cinema Display had to go. With so many models and so many gripes, the selection seemed to be a no-win headache. This actually fit the criteria – hdmi, integrated speakers, size, IPS or near, relatively inexpensive, and decent response rate. It’s hard to make comparison’s with the Cinema display but I thought I wanted IPS. The vertical viewing angle on this seemed to be similar to an IPS screen. The horizontal viewing angle is smaller and dims when you are past the +/-45 degrees of center. It’s not much of an issue as a computer monitor. The glow of the backlight at the bottom is noticeable but not much. I seem to have lucked out with no dead pixels that I can see. I wasn’t expecting much of the speakers other than that they work. The hdmi and integrated speakers make for a tidy setup. The monitor can be tilted but the best adjustment is the stack of books or boxes to bring the monitor to the right height. I had bought a similar model for my brother and had the hardest time adjusting the contrast and brightness for him until I realized the contrast and brightness were swapped. Maybe it’s a tomato/tomatoe type thing but contrast actually controls the brightness of the display and this model is no different. As I started adjusting the display for the settings that tomcat9 listed, I remembered the quirk about the contrast and brightness. I finally settled on contrast of 60 and brightness of 100. It still wasn’t quite right so I pulled up the color profile in the Mac Mini and it had selected HD-709A. I tried the calibration and the biggest difference came with the gamma adjustment to 2.2. Everything seems to be good now. I haven’t tried out the response rate yet but I think it will live up to it’s billing. It is a light display but at this price, I don’t think you should expect an aluminum case.

Sweet visuals for a Sweet Price.

The basic key to this purchase is the price offered for the combined LED, 2 ms response time, resolution, and the size of the monitor. Having used it for a week now, I can say it’s visuals are a great upgrade to the older models and the 21 inch. At the 1920 x 1080 resolution, the graphics in World of Tanks or Lord of the Rings online are fantastic, and there is no noticeable blurring as camera/action swings around. (I’m running a NiVida GE 1050 card and a 3.2 ghz clock, so the monitor is tasked with plenty of signal.)Setup was simple with the DVI cable. Came with a VGA cable and audio cable as well. Audio cable is needed if you want to utilize the sound, which is nothing special. Two small speakers with sound emanating from behind the monitor. More than adequate for notifications or simple game sounds. But no one buys a monitor for the sound anyway, they buy for the visuals, and this serves up a visual feast, rivaling monitors costing an extra $50 or more.Negatives are a somewhat thicker bezel (read boarder) and an antiquated volume, contrast, brightness control system. It’s one of those buttons brings up a menu, another one moves the arrows, the first one selects, a third one sets….etc. What a pain. Especially, when the buttons are on the bottom, back side of the monitor, not easy to reach. I found if you set the monitor visuals once and use your computer audio/volume to set sound, you don’t have to use these much. All told, I’d buy this again.

Highly recommended for school/gaming computer on a budget

TL;DR: Great picture quality that has held it’s own against video games running on the highest video settings and no issues with the coloring. Highly recommended.I liked this one so much that i just bought a second one so that i can have a duel monitor setup. I bought the monitor a little over 5 months ago when i was building a new computer that would be able to handle all of my college and gaming needs. I was really hesitant after reading about the ‘washed out colors’ and people complaining about the contrast settings, but it was what i could afford at the time, so I got it anyway.I have no complaints. The coloring is just fine and the settings are really easy to manipulate if you want to change anything to meet your standards. I’ve put hours of use into this this day in and day out and i have never had an issue with the picture quality. I run games on Ultra settings and the picture comes out just as beautiful as the $300+ screen that my roommate bought for his gaming rig 8 months ago. I’m not saying that this could match up against video and picture editing computer screens (which tend to be $500+), but you will definitely get your moneys worth. The speakers are not the best, but they are monitor speekers and you can only expect so much (especially at this low of a price). If you want better speakers you just need to buy some for cheep on line, but these speakers will definitely get the job done until then.If you are looking for a gaming/home/work computer screen that will give you great, quality performance then look no further.I recommend using a DVI cable for the best quality.

    Good picture quality

I was disappointed that the monitor did not come with HDMI cables. When using these monitors with a laptop, most docking stations offer HDMI connection, some offer PC VGA connection, but none offer DVI connection. I know that DVI and HDMI are essentially the same except DVI does not include sound. Manufacturer should include HDMI cables for a more universal connection method.Picture quality is good, but the settings screens are cumbersome to use, and you have to be careful which buttons you push, or the monitor will disconnect from the docking station and have to reconnect itself.

    Good video; so-so audio.

Don’t do gaming. Average computer use. The picture/screen quality are really good. I do a lot of detailed work in color and the product is excellent for those uses.Speakers are weak. Even at high audio, it’s sometimes hard to hear. Will augment with another speaker system as this isn’t quality.Like the pictures, though!

worth the money but my only gripe is they do not auto-initialize so you have to manually turn them on. I’m not sure if this can be changed from the onboard settings but either way; out of the box they do not auto-initialize. I’ve got a g9 odyssey, an LG 26inch, and 2 of these in my cave. I just wish they would turn on when the signal is detected. oh well. worth the buy.

    Dead pixels within a month.

Update 2: Submitted the paperwork required to get it replaced via ViewSonic warranty program. The process required several emails back and forth and was kinda confusing but overall, ViewSonic reps were quick to respond to my emails and answer my questions. They sent me a new monitor and then I used the same box and packaging to return the old monitor. The only part that made me uneasy was that they require your cc number incase you do not return the old monitor or if they decide it is not covered under warranty (which is understandable). However, what bothered me is they never acknowledged that they received the new monitor. Tracking clearly said they got it but after several emails, they never would admit that they got it and I was in the clear. All I want is closure and a statement that the process is complete (and my card will not be charged). All in all though, I am happy with my new monitor and very happy that they followed through on their warranty. It seems that most companies find any excuse to not follow through.Update: Submitted a RMA request as instructed by the manufacturer and am currently waiting to hear back.Great monitor for the price, however, within a month of having it, a cluster of pixels have died in the center of the monitor, leaving an obnoxious white spot that you can’t get rid of. Considering how fast it appeared, I imagine more will be on their way out soon.

Works how I expected it to.

I read the reviews about it being bright, which for me was a selling point as my old monitor was not very bright at all. In fact you had to have the brightness clear up to be able to see anything. Not sure if my old monitor was always like that as it is now 10 years old maybe even older. Any way the video quality on this is amazing compared to the old monitor. I mean things look clear and crisp. Major improvement. Then again I said the same thing when I went from a crt to that old monitor. The monitor is bright but as I said that was why I bought it. However I was not expecting it to be this bight. I have to turn the brightness and contrast down to 5 just to get it to where I want it. Still brighter then the highest setting on my old monitor but I like it at this setting so it works. My laptop screen is actually the same way. Although on my laptop I have to turn it all the way off and that is only a year old. Speaking of which there is not all that much difference between my laptop screen and this monitor except for the size so I wonder if Lenovo gets their screens made by viewsonic. Not that it is that big a deal if they do or don’t.Oh and if you are wondering why I bought this brand over any other brand it is because I have had 0 issues with viewsonic and even with the brightness being so high I still give it 5 out of 5 stars. Also it uses less then half the power of my old monitor.so it will pay for it self in a short time.

    3-Way comparison of Sub-$200 monitors

What I was looking for was a decent monitor with ‘good blacks’ and ‘clear text’ even when the brightness & contrast are turned up. I like a relatively bright screen, but I want my black background to look like the monitor is turned off. I use Photoshop for solely for fixing up photos of my kids, so I’m not professional. I causally play FPS games once an a while, but I’m not hard-core. I mostly use my machine for coding, word documents, etc.I had the following monitors hooked up all at once: an Acer K242HL-LED, an ASUS VN247H-P and the View Sonic VX2452MH. They are all the same price range give-or-take a fist full of dollars. The Acer was terrible. The ‘blacks’ were mostly gray and the text looked terrible. The ASUS was much better than the Acer, but it was hard to get good blacks and good contrast. I spent some time messing around with the settings but never had a satisfactory configuration.I was about to write how bad the ghosting is and was surprised it was so bad on a 2ms monitor — particularly bad when you drag a window around with dark text on a blue-ish background (think Office 2003/SSMS). Then I remembered seeing an option for “Response Time” in the settings. I just changed it from the default of “Ultra Fast” to “Standard” and there is no ghosting at all.The ViewSonic is not as nice as the previous version (which I’ve paired this one with). The buttons for the OSD are physical buttons where as the previous version used a touch-sensitive bevel. The ViewSonic is by far the winner of these three and is a good buy once you’ve configured it correctly.

Great Monitor – Do not buy the warranty!

I bought two of these monitors for my home office, and mounted them to a dual monitor arm… I also bought the Assurion 4 Year warranty to go with them. These monitors have worked great for the last two years, however, one of them has a problem with the HDMI port now, and called Assurion to file a claim, and get the monitor replaced.Because I have them mounted on a dual monitor arm, I had no use for the monitor stand that comes with the monitors, and we got rid of those. This is where the problem with Assurion comes up… because I no longer have the monitor stand to send back with the monitor (that they are just going to destroy anyway), the REFUSE to honor the warranty, and will NOT process my claim. According to the rep I was speaking with, if I cannot return EVERYTHING that was included on the box, then they cannot (WILL NOT) honor the warranty, and will not proceed with the claim.ASSURION IS A SCAM! Buy the monitors, which outside of this lone issue, have been great, but do NOT buy the warranty!!!

Good motion clarity…for a VA panel.

I bought this as a budget gaming monitor because of the 1ms MPRT backlight strobing feature and the higher than average PPI (~103 pixels per inch). The motion clarity of 1ms mode is good with minimal cross-talk. I hoped there would be adjustable strobe-pulse-width that trades brightness for motion-clarity, but I guess that’s too much to ask for a budget monitor in 2023. Note that cross-talk is worse at the top and bottom of the screen than it is in the middle.Removing the anti glare film was simple, and I didn’t even need to remove the bezel to get it all. I just used a couple plastic pry tools and it came off easy.

Color and screen issues make this strictly a gaming monitor

I originally bought this to replace an Acer SB220Q as my primary monitor and was, at first, disappointed overall. The contrast was extremely high and tuning its settings through the OSD (whose buttons were extremely sharp and cut into my fingers) didn’t help at all. Colors were slightly more saturated than I feel they should have been. Viewing angle was pretty narrow and corners were dark, and coupled with the high native contrast, it was difficult to view any dark images or games. There’s a noticeable screen-door effect on plain white images. The speakers were super gutless and required the desktop audio to be cranked up to max to be audible, at which point it would lose any clarity and had no bass to it whatsoever. Its response time setting was supposed to reduce motion blur, but the tradeoff was that it added significant ghosting and choppy motion. Most importantly, it had a vignette along the right edge of the monitor that was annoying enough for me to RMA it under warranty.I received an older manufacturing date model as a replacement and the quality of the two monitors is night and day for some reason. The contrast and colors now match my other displays, including the SB220Q. I was able to get an almost 100% image match with very slight tuning of the RGB. The monitor’s OSD buttons are more square and blunt and don’t require as much force to press. The speakers are noticeably better. The response time setting now works with no noticeable trade-off like the ghosting before and makes high-speed games look great. Unfortunately, the screen door is still there and this one also has a dark edge along the right side of the screen albeit much less noticeable, but the improvement in the color was enough to warrant me keeping it.Its on-the-fly gaming mode isn’t for me as it turns the image bland, flat, and washed out in favor of lower contrast that’s supposed to make it easier to see in the dark for esports or tactical games or something.I recommend this for gaming, where you’re likely to not focus enough on the image quality to notice its issues, but not for creative work or art as its color and light seems to be inconsistent between units.

Init Impression; ok only; turn off game mode= better picture

Edit:Thanks to Cliffs comment about image quality being affected if game mode was turned on. His hint of using the UP Arrow to turn off game mode was useful.I tend not to read manuals, but poke around in settings to change what I need to. I didn’t find game mode using my usual method.Clicking just the Up arrow by itself would have never happened with my approach. The image improved a noticeable amount. Better smoothness, less grainy characteristics. Now the picture quality is better for us.Color saturation still is not quite as nice as my old Samsung, but image quality improved to nearly where I was hoping it would be.I had hoped that it being a newer monitor it would exceed my old monitor to a degree. It still does not.I would give it 3.5 stars based on the improvement from switching off game mode. Sound is still sub-par for me.——————–Original (modified for greater clarity):We bought this since my wife’s 23″ samsung inexplicably started buzzing and shutting itself down after 20 seconds each time it was turned on.That monitor had ~2048×1152 native resolution roughly. It had no built in speakers, but we had some cheap computer speakers from the 90’s hooked up to the machine. The good. This particular monitor does have HDMI right next to the DVI and VGA connector. Others have stated in their reviews that it doesn’t so perhaps the models changed slightly? Ours came with a plugin for HDMI, but no cable. There is a DVI cable and a VGA cable. We have an older Mac Mini on this new monitor so we don’t need an HDMI for it anyhow.Comparison:1. We got the samsung 6 years ago for $260 vs $140 for the Viewsonic. The samsung was at the time one of the cheapest monitors one could get for a 23″ and cheaper than most 22″ models of the day.2. This is a very lightweight monitor. Our Samsung weighed easily 2x as much. The samsung had a nice weighted base which had considerable height adjustment and tilt adjustment. This Viewsonic has a very cheap flimsy base with no adjustments.3. The samsung had better resolution, but the Viewsonic has standard HD resolution which isn’t bad. The samsung had much better color saturation. The Viewsonic seems have weaker color saturation even after all the adjusting I can do.The Viewsonic has better brightness but the Viewsonic seems to be much grainier.4. The samsung had no sound; The view sonic has sound.. but it sounds about like it is coming out of a smartphone. Very thin sound. My wife says it is ok meaning she will deal with the thin tinny sound rather than have the big clunky speakers and wiring all over her double computer filled desk. It might be ok or she may end up back with the old speakers. In my view I couldn’t last a day with that racket. Why only 3 stars?Overall I am not impressed with this monitor. Build is definitely cheap and flimsy compared to the old Samsung. Picture quality is worse overall. The picture seems to have weak color saturation and be quite noticeably grainy. Not sure why since the resolution should be similar. The sound is flat out awful to me. It can’t be adjusted height wise which I knew from the other reviews, but the base is even chintzier than I could have imagined. It should hold up, since nobody really messes with a monitor when it is sitting there, but it will be interesting to see if my wife needs to throw some books under it to raise the height. You kind of have to stare down at the monitor since it is also a very low base. Long term, I am not sure how comfortable staring down at a monitor will feel.My old samsung was a very cheap monitor for that era (far less expensive than anything 22 or 23″ at the time), and yet it overall was in a class above this one. However, the samsung didn’t last which is the ultimate statement on quality. I am hoping this monitor will last as almost all of my other ones have…. more than 10 years. Monitors should definitely last at least 10 years in my view. Then they should be recycled for the rare earth elements which are being used up by producing cheap junky screens that seem to break more easily compared to older models.

Not Quite As Good As I’m Used To…

Got this ViewSonic to replace an 19″ Viewsonic on my main gaming system. (i7-4790, 16 gigs RAM, GTX-1060 6 gigs GDDR5 RAM) The old monitor ran at 1366×768 and I decided to go to a higher res monitor to match my new graphics card. The installation went Ok. I switched from a VGA cable which went thru a adapter to a straight DVI cable from monitor to card which was included in the box with the monitor. After hooking up all the connections, I cranked up the monitor and booted up the OS. Win 10 loaded the normal default driver that it always loads and the system booted on up. The first thing I noted was the picture seemed to be a bit “washed out” in appearance. I also had to change my font size in Windows from 9 to 12 so I could read the on screen text better. (I’ve never had a monitor with this resolution before and I think some of my problems may be getting adjusted to the larger screen surface.) I then installed new drivers downloaded from ViewSonic that were for Win 10 64-bit as that’s what I am running and install them. To my dismay this didn’t seem to help out at all at first. Then after fooling around a bit I found that Win 10 had not used the drives from ViewSonic but was still using it’s default drivers. I switched the drivers over to the one intended for the monitor and it looked much better. I tried a few games on it and the picture was great and it really performed well here. I had gotten this monitor mainly to use on a gaming system and it really did a good job there. The only think I can say is this monitor is great in games but leave a bit to be desired when using it from the desktop. Getting the drivers right did help but the desktop picture is not quite up to the old ViewSonic 19″ monitor I was using. But I must admit it come very, very, close!

Using this monitor with a retina MacBook Pro

I don’t see many reviews from Mac users on monitors, so here’s one for you.I just received this monitor this morning and have it connected to my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, late 2013) with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2GB video card running El Capitan. I initially connected my monitor via the Mini Displayport to HDMI cable I bought from Monoprice a year or so ago. I do a lot of touring and corporate video work and it’s the same cable I use to connect my Mac into many video switchers that have an HDMI input, so it’s been a solid cable in a variety of setups. With this monitor, it wouldn’t work properly at 1080p (red dots everywhere) and at 1080i it wasn’t syncing properly and was shifting up and down (jittering, is probably more accurate). I grabbed a standard HDMI cable out of my gear bag and plugged that in instead and it’s working great at 1080p. It still has the same issue at 1080i, with the rapid up and down shifting. However, at 1080p it’s perfect.Unlikely some people who have complained about this monitor being way too bright, ti’s actually dark (on the Natural setting) than my rMBP screen at 100% and only slightly brighter than my late 2009 21.5″ iMac that it’s also sitting next to.I haven’t had a chance to test with VGA or DVI yet since I don’t have the correct Apple adapters at home.Response Time is best set to Standard for normal use. When I set it to Advanced or Ultra Fast I get trailing on my mouse cursor. I have Dynamic Contrast off.Contrast is set to 60 and Brightness is set to 100. My home office has natural light filtered through blinds with the windows behind my screens rather than behind me, so there isn’t really any glare. I don’t see any reflection on the screen of the lamp that is behind me like I can on my iMac screen. The color matching seeing fairly close to my MacBook Pro screen. When I set my background to solid white or solid black, they are both fairly even and I don’t see any bleeding or obvious color issues.

    This monitor had software problems

I’ve used View Sonic monitors in the past and always been pleased with them. No problems; they worked right out of the box, for many years.Main reason I bought this monitor was the View Split software – I had enough problems with a 2 monitor setup that it was time to go back to 1, and with the software to create partitions on my screen, this was a bonus, and exactly what I needed. That’s when the problems started. The View Split zip file was terrible. According to my IT professional friend – the zip was poorly made. It was only thanks to my IT friend that I was even able to extract and finally use the software. She commented on how poor the zip file was created. I’ve been working with computers for many years and when I have problems extracting a simple zip file and need help to extract it? You know there’s something wrong with it. Never in all my years of working with computers have I had problems extracting folders from a zip file – until now.I gave this monitor a 4 star review because of the view split software. Yes, it finally worked, but not without a lot of unnecessary time spent trying.Pros: 24” size; colors are sharp, crisp and true. Delivery was in 1 day. Outstanding. Monitor was packed well. VGA, DVI, audio and power cables included in the box.Cons: View Split software zip poorly made. The 1 piece of paper that passes for a “manual” was a joke. Font so small I would’ve needed a microscope to view it – so it was useless. I did download a better manual for this monitor separately and used it instead.

Overall good quality and value for work & media

I was looking for a decent size/quality, all-purpose monitor to use for gaming, work, and occasional some tv/movies, and this delivered without breaking my budget. I’ve used it for three months and am quite happy. 1080p, multi-input, and essential features sold me on it.With minor adjustments to brightness and contrast I think the picture quality is very good, black/white/color accuracy are all good in my non-expert opinion. The menu is simple and fairly easy to navigate, considering there are only four buttons. Image adjustments are more than enough to suit personal preferences, including ‘game mode/eco mode’, auto-off, sleep, plus some things you probably don’t need (Example: Response time can be set as ‘standard’ ‘advanced’ or ‘ultra fast’). The ‘up’ button acts as a shortcut to enable/disable game-mode quickly. There are more advanced manual adjustments listed that are grey’d out, perhaps only available in certain modes or reserved for a more expensive model, but nothing I’d want to mess with. Gaming on max settings I’ve been more than satisfied, screen tearing has been quite rare/minimal. The included stand is basic but felt reliable, would shake a bit when I typed on my old desk, but I ditched it for an arm-style mount to save space and so I could tilt the screen. VESA mounting was a breeze. The built in sound was surprisingly good, decent volume, but I have better speakers so I only tested it briefly. My only minor gripes: With default settings, the clear plastic bit along the bottom remains illuminated blue when powered on. It makes for a very large power indicator, and I found it distracting when watching movies in a dark environment. It can be disabled (Menu >Setup Menu > deselect Power Indicator) so that it only flashes once when pressing a button or going to sleep. No longer distracting but still unnecessary. Took off one star for that and the stand. It’s perfectly functional but if you’re picky or your desk isn’t just the right height you’ll probably want to buy a better one.

    Excellent Monitor, Poor Installation Process

Given the high number of these monitors sold and the high ratings, I was expecting the installation to be quick and flawless. That wasn’t my experience. setting it up and connecting the cables was no problem. There is an installation sheet that shows how to do it. Then comes the CD. After inserting it and hearing it spin up I expected something to come up on the screen that would walk me through the installation, settings and registration. Not so. I had to go to my Computer and find the CD, open it and look at each file separately. When it came to installing drivers, I was sent to a 3rd party software to get updates and drivers at a cost for 6 months for $30.00. I didn’t pay the $30.00 so I’m not sure I have all I need to optimally run this monitor. I crawled through half dozen files and PDF’s and sorted out what I thought I needed and what I didn’t. It’s a pain in the neck to register it. There are links that don’t work and at least 3 different methods to register it including an address to “snail mail” a form you print out. For a technology company, this whole process is like out of the dark ages. While the monitor actually operated well from the moment I powered it up. I’m still questioning whether there are drivers out there that would make it even better. For now, I can’t complain about what I see, it’s very crisp and colorful. I’m pleased with the built in speakers since there are two less items on the desk, and I don’t have to turn them off or on. There is a User’s guide in the form of a PDF on the CD which you can copy to your desktop. It’s actually your key to setting up and using the monitor.

    Great Monitor, Great Price

I’m a writer and I spend well over 6 hours a day working. Previously I had been using my ASUS laptop and the 15″ screen that is standard with that unit.for all of my work, but I noticed that my eyes were getting tired. I upgraded my eyeglasses which helped a little, and then I made the text a larger size, which also helped, but I did’t find either of those things a solution. That’s what I went shopping for. After looking through the selection on Amazon, I settled on either a 24 or 27 inch monitor as what I needed. The reviews were favorable, and the price especially great on the ViewSonic, so I decided to take a flyer on it and see if it would solve my tired eye problems.I connected the monitor via the HDMI cable to my laptop, and after a little fiddling got the monitor to work the way I thought I needed, and the laptop closed and off to the side, (I use a Microsoft blue tooth keyboard and mouse for my writing) After one day I was totally sold on this monitor. I don’t play games on the computer, but I have watched some Youtube videos, and one of two Netflix shows when I’m goofing off instead of working, and I am thoroughly impressed. The picture is crisp and clear, and yes, it’s bright, but I can dull it down easily. I find that I like the brightness turned up, and put a color background on my word processor instead of white. My eyes still get tired, but I don’t start suffering until near the end of the day, so I am comfortable for many more hours a day than I was previously.I think ViewSonic makes a great product, and I don’t have a problem recommending this monitor to anyone who doesn’t have very specific requirements that it might not meet, although I can’t imagine what those might be. For me, it works like a charm.
