    Broken on arrival☹️

Just received the 98Qm850G. Screen was cracked and the TV didn’t work at all. No picture of any kind. Was disappointed as it was highly rated. It is being returned and somewhat strangely the price has dropped $3000. Seems odd for a brand new product. Anyway, hopefully the next one will work and I can actually review it.

    Great TV!

Replaced a Sony LED from 2021 with this and this is so much better. This is the closest I’ve seen an LED tv come to OLED. The picture quality is amazing

    Dead pixels

I ordered once and I had to return due to dead pixels, I ordered again and same issue. very disappointing. I’m not sure I’m going to order gain. Picture quality is good but QC and dead pixel is a big issue. Be aware that this tv is very heavy and you need at least 2-3 people to pack/unpack (85″).

    Poor Quality. Please don’t buy

TV is getting randomly switched off. Some time, it failed to start as well. Very poor quality TV. My return experience with Amazon is equally very bad. Don’t buy any bulk items from Amazon, unless you are willing to throw away the item.

Make sure to test this before you take it out of the box – spent an hour unpacking and mounting only to find out the unit wouldn’t even power on! Buy a better brand.

    BRIGHT but with flaws.

This is a very bright tv. Darks are very dark. Looks great at first.. but,Day 2 I noticed a stuck pixel on at bright red. I can deal with dead pixels but one on max brightness is hard to ignore. The gray/black uniformity was distracting. I get it’s a budget tv but I just can’t stop noticing it in every scene.I returned it. I’ll try the u8k and update this review in a couple weeks.

Top quality, affordable, easy to install.

Amazon delivery was awesome and on time. TV was packaged very well and came out of the box with easy. Note this is a 2 person install for sure. Build quality is superb. TV looks beautiful and the picture is amazing. Easy to adjust all the settings to fit your style. I recommend a TCL sound bar to go with the TV. We got the 3.1.2 Alto 8e also easy to set up and the sub synced automatically, couldn’t have been easier. The Google TV enabled TV will allow us to not have to use our Fire TV stick. Google TV interface is similar to the Fire TV so an easy switch for us and we have Utube TV so it’s a win win.

One of the best TVs on the market

This is the brightest TV I ever owned.I can’t believe I purchased a TCL TV. I usually purchase an LG or Samsung. But I gambled on this one. I bought a 75 inch for the bedroom first and when it came in I plugged it up to see if I like the picture and I love it so then I bought an 85 inch on Amazon. Best Buy 85 inch was sold out at the time, so I took a gamble buying it on Amazon. But anyway this TCL QM8 picture quality is amazing. + you don’t even need a sound bar it have a built-in subwoofer. This is a Great Buy.

    Dirty Screen Effect

Had high hopes. We own a half dozen other TCL tv’s. Have always loved them. This one was unclear (yes, we optimized the configurations), has cloudy spots (confirmed with tests) and never seemed to get bright enough with HDR content.Returned it and ordered a 98” 2021, non-mini led, TCL instead. It’s stunning. Great decision.

    One of the best tvs!!

After doing tons of research, I found this is the best TV at this price point. It is a mini LED and everyone compares the picture quality to an OLED. For me, it is better than an OLED because it can get super bright, if that is what you need. I did few pictures adjustments to get the picture just right, but once I reached the right ones, WOW…it is amazing i got blown away. The volume can get very loud without distortion and also the menu and system apps are snappy. I can’t wait to spend more time watching and enjoying the most I can with this tv.

    Flagship performance for midrange pricing

This TV has inky blacks, vibrant colors, and absolutely class leading brightness.Only fall short from a physical standpoint — it doesn’t look like a high end TV, but this TV costs literally half as much as TVs from Samsung and Sony that it competes and beats. At the end of the day it’s a giant black rectangle so you don’t really notice the looks of it I I suppose.Especially at the 85″ size, this is a monster performer — I was an early adopter before the professional reviews came out and was a bit nervous, but TCL absolutely hit this one out of the park.

FANTASTIC TV — BUY NEW HDMI 2.1 CABLES

The box arrived with an imprint where something fell against the box, but the packaging did it’s job! TV was perfect. This thing is unbelievably bright. I don’t usually use adaptive brightness, but I feel it’s almost necessary for this TV.The blacks are as close to any OLED I have ever seen, and colors do not bloom out in an aura as much as my previous LED TV. I never thought I would buy a TCL TV, because they seemed almost too affordable, but I am hooked now. Will always buy this brand in the future!

BEST LCD TV EVER MADE!!! (no really!)

I have had the best of LG OLED, Sony, Vizio, and Samsung (most recently the QN90B 85″) next to this thing. It bests them all. As dark as OLED (to the naked eye) Less blooming than ANY LCD ever! Decent enough motion and upscaling, and brighter than the sun! This thing is STUNNING and should be at the top of everyone’s list, regardless of price. If I had more money to spend, the ONLY other TV I would have considered was the 98″ of the same set! Grab it for 2K and don’t look back.

I REALLY wanted to like this tv

So, the positive was getting a large modern TV with all the bells and whistles for a good price. I got the 85″ for $2.2k. First TV arrived damaged, no damage to the box. After getting a replacement, it was an awesome TV for the first month. That’s when the coil whine started happening. It happens whenever part of the screen is showing blacks. So if I’m playing a video game and it’s night time in the game, the whine will go. The darker it is, the louder the whine. The whine is loud enough that it can be heard in the other side of the house. And there really is nothing that can be done, with TCL because they use cheap power supply boards. You can check online, they get replaced but the issue comes back. Another recommendation online is to lower local contrast settings, which I’ve messed with every contrast setting and there is no change.Second issue is this TV is HORRIBLE when it comes to motion. There is soo much judder when watching movies or shows, any movement looks incredibly blurry. Enough to make me a bit nauseated. Again, this with adjusting all of the motion settings. I honestly should’ve just went with a Sony like I was planning to. There is a reason these Chinese brands are much cheaper.

beware of HORRIBLE TCL Customer Service

I purchased this TV a week ago and when I received it out of the box the remote control wasnt working! Is what it is so I called Amazon the person was very nice however then we had to call TCL and 45 minutes into the call after talking with 3 people I told them I had to get back to work and would call back. The next day I called again and talked with Amazon Customer Service and then we had to call TCL to get the help and a replacement remote. Well 3 TCL people later the Amazon CS lady ( Who stayed on the call with me to help) finally stepped in and said listen we have gone thru all the processes and we need to get the customer a replacement remote. The TCL person rudley said ok and then a hour later finally said would send a replacement remote for this brand new tv with the remote not working right out of the box. Well I thought that was the end of it however since then they still havent sent the remote and I have received 4 additional HARRASSING calls from TCL about the original remote and I keep telling them I will until today I got another call from TCL and the guy told me they cant send me the remote and that they would send last years model that doesnt have backlighting and doesnt have the same buttons! I told him I wont agree to that and he said we dont make the same remote that the TV comes with and that I have to take the last years model that doesnt have the same buttons and doesnt have backlighting! How can this customer service be that bad?

    Stunning TV

After reading many professional reviews on this TV I decided to order it. Went first to Best Buy and checked out the usual brands, Samsung, LG, Sony both OLED and QLED. I can tell you that this has the blacks of an OLED and the brightest of the bright QLED TV’s. I am stunned. You have to play a bit with the settings for Contrast and Brightness but you will not be disappointed. I cannot get enough 4K content on YouTube now. Wildlife documentaries come alive.

    My favorite TV ever!

I bought 2 of the 75″ versions. Have them both running for a week now and just love them. Really easy to mount. One we put on a wall and the other the stand. I studied YouTube videos on how to calibrate the TV, but honestly in the end, I just set the auto settings and they work great. Love how the TV dynamically adjusts to the room lighting. Highly recommend. Great bang for the buck.

Best TV at it’s Price Point!

This thing is a monster! Astounding picture, easy to navigate menu and set up, latest version of Google TV and it decodes nearly every video and audio signal available. The unit seamlessly integrated with my receiver and not a single problem to date. Tech support is on point and helpful. After trying several brands and having less than stellar experiences, I’ve finally found “the one”! Don’t hesitate and buy this thing! Gaming, movies, streaming…whatever! You can’t go wrong with the QM8!

    Mini LED is AMAZING!

Best TV I’ve ever owned. I bought the 85″ for $2199. My Hisense 85H6510G died after just two years. I put my old Vizio P65-C1 in it’s place and it looked absolutely amazing compared to the cheap Hisense model i had on the wall. Hisense does make really nice high end models, but an 85″ for $1000, well, you get it. However the TCL 85QM850G blows the Vizio out of the water!

Loved the quality, but not the durability, and TCL Warranty was non existent.

The media could not be loaded.

We purchased this TV in June of 2023, and loved the TV for the first 4 and 1/2 months. Recently, while putting my hands on the top and bottom bezel to adjust the TV on its wall mount, the TV began to display lines both horizontally and vertically, as well as additional damage of the top of the panel. No impacts to the panel ever occurred, this was simply from adjusting the TVs position on its wall mount. I worked with TCL to try to submit a warranty claim, and as of now they are saying that due to physical damage the warranty is void. Come on! 4 and 1/2 months in, with no damage to the outer panel whatsoever and no evidence of any abuse and they are refusing the warranty? It’s a shame, we really love the TV, but there is no way that I would ever buy a TCL again after this experience. Hopefully we can get them to do the right thing and at least send out a technician to look at it, but I’m not holding my breath.

    Stunning

Came from a 8k Samsung. This TV is the best QLED on the market at this time. The blacks are OLED like, very bright. I had a large budget than this TV but after spending time with this one I just don’t see why anyone would spend 2-3 times as much for negligible improvement.

    The Best 4K TV Ever!!!!!

I previously owned an amazing 6-series TCL 4K TV. The QM8 outdoes it on every level. The picture, in a word, is incredible. This 4K television has unmatched clarity; contrast, black levels, color purity, and overall performance. Do not hesitate to buy the TCL QM8 as it’s the best home theatre investment you can make.

Looked at all the big brands and this is what looked the best

I went to my local Best Buy to look at all the current models since I hadn’t seen the newest technology for a while. I honestly thought I was going to find that the Sony or Samsung was the best, but I went around the store several times looking at all of them to find what looked the best to my own eyes. I honestly never even considered that TCL would be in the running, but I saw they had an 85 inch Q7 and the blacks were deep and the contrast and color was great. The TCL (Q7, a model below this one) was hanging beside a $2700 Sony mini LED and the TCL TV looked best to me. I came home and read reviews and found that this model had even better specs (brighter 2000 nits and more dimming zones) than the model I saw in store so I trusted what my eyes saw and ordered this.It arrived yesterday through Prime delivery, which was great. They were very careful moving the TV in and were within the scheduled delivery timeframe. We mounted it on the wall and it looks amazing. You should note that the VESA mount is 600×600 which is an odd size so make sure you buy a mount that will work. I bought the ProMounts Tilting TV Mount for Most 60-110 Inch TV on Amazon and it worked great.I really don’t understand the negative reviews that say this TV lacks detail. There are so many settings to adjust the picture to your liking. It is so sharp. The depth of the blacks with the local dimming zones looks like OLED blacks to my eyes. This TV rivals other TVs that are twice its price. I really, really recommend you take a trip to a local electronics store and judge these TVs against each other yourself. I would have never thought a TCL is what I would end up purchasing, but I’m extremely happy with it. It is a big purchase, so I purchased the four year protection plan through Amazon for $183, which is a great price. Just for comparison, Best Buy’s five year protection plan is $430 for this TV.

This TV Will Make You Happy

Received this tv today. This is the first time I have gone all in on a TV, I usually buy a lower end or mid range, even if this is not a Samsung, Sony or LG I would consider this TV high end based on what you are getting. This tv picture looks amazing. Movies, tv, xbox, it all looks great. I moved from a 65 inch Sony to the 85 inch TCL QM8 and I could not be happier. I put it together and moved it to the tv stand by myself but let me tell you this sucker is heavy, recommend having atleast one other person to help you. I didnt notice there were two different sizes of hardware for the base which set me back as i put the long screws where the short screws went, not a biggie if you pay attention to what you are doing but i did not. You have to turn on “Game Master” from system settings in order to be able to set a input’s picture to game mode. The setup was fairly quick, you tell it what apps you have and it does the rest, some had my account info and some didnt (uses google) but its pretty easy. I read some people say the user interface was laggy but that has not been my experience. I had a HD Roku connected to my Sony but I dont plan on connecting that since I like the remote and the tv user interface. I live on a military base and was a little concerned about the delivery but it was actually pretty nice, delivered by XPO. Same day and time slot they said they would deliver it. So far I am very happy with this tv, the extra 20 inches over the tv it replaced makes a big difference for me and I am loving it. I havent had to play with the picture much other than taking it out of low power mode and adjusting the picture to cool which is my preference. I think the default brightness is set at 10 which is bright but it goes to 100 which can make your eyes bleed but can also be enjoyable. If you enjoy streaming and gaming you cant go wrong with this tv. The sound is also pretty good for a big tv, has a built in sub which is nice. Does not beat a sound bar but is good enough if you dont want to do a sound bar. I will update if anything else comes up. (Loving the google user interface, cant see going back to Roku).

    I wanted to love it….

I’m coming from a 65 Panasonic Viera plasma that’s almost 10’years old. This TV is big and bright and the picture looks good except the dark scenes. , Even playing with the calibrations, the dark scenes are horrible. I guess it’s called black crush. I tried everything and TCL couldn’t help either and it’s not acceptable. The stand this gigantic TV sits on is a piece of plastic garbage. I can’t believe of all the things to cheap out on is one of the most important. It wouldn’t matter though if you’re wall mounting. The remote I wanted to love because it’s back lit (all manufacturers should do this) and has good buttons but doesn’t work properly , the volume rocker doesn’t work so I have to use my FIOS remote for volume on the TCL. TCL wouldn’t send me out a replacement and was having me reset the tv a bunch of times which didn’t work and it’s a PIA having to log into all the apps again. Why not just send a new darn remote? Too many issues that are annoying so it’s going back I’m going back to Vizio which has just as nice of a picture minus the black crush and HOPEFULLY a working remote! but listen to this… I called Amazon and said if I can get the remote to work (I spent hours on the phone with TCL) and pay for expert calibrations (to see if the dark scenes would improve) would you honor the $200 discount you have the tv at currently (I had TV set up on sept 24th). I was told NO, I would have to return it and reorder it… whaaaaaat They’d rather spend the money having it boxed up and returned than honor the $200 current discounted price. Now on a good note , the delivery service and set up through Amazon was great And it’s wonderful Amazon gives you 30 day return period, I wanted to love this monster but….. and TCL for God sakes why put a 100 plus TV on a piece of crappy plastic stand that’s supposed to support it?I was having a heart attack when the men set the TV on my stand

75” QM8 TV arrived with defective backlight

There were alot of misses here. So the Tv was ordered on June 25 and originally scheduled for delivery on 6/30. I received a call an hour before delivery and they informed me the tv arrived late to the warehouse and all delivery trucks already went out that morning and I had to reschedule delivery for 7/1. On 7/1 Amazon delivered and setup the 75” QM8 tv. Once they left I moved the tv gently against the wall on my tv stand and the tv’s backlight started to flicker on and off which each slight movement as if something was loose in the tv. When the back of the tv’ plastic cover (above rear subwoofer) was slightly tapped the backlight will go off and on. We ensured the tvs firmware was updated. The whole day of testing the tv regardless of what’s on the screen the tv would randomly flicker off for a half second and then back on with nothing but the power cable plugged into the tv. Later that same evening the flickering got worst until the backlight went completely out. We tried typical troubleshooting like power cycling and removing all hdmi cables and still nothing. As the backlight was out we could still see the faint text on the tv while it was powered on. (See my picture)Although the tv had phenomenal picture quality like inky OLED blacks and ultra bright whites which was expected from all the review sites I follow (Digital Trends, FOMO), I am disappointed as this is my first TCL tv. I hope this not an expected experience of TCL. Not sure the cause but the ball was dropped from manufacturing to delivery. That evening I called Amazon to request an exchange as I love the tv however they could only process it as a return and they couldn’t refund the money back to my credit card. They would only refund my purchase as an Amazon credit. On 7/5 The tv was picked up per Amazon and still awaiting my return status to update.I haven’t heard any reports from anyone regarding QM8 with a bad backlight and random flickering.I will give TCL one more shot as this TV was everything I was looking for coming from a 1080p Samsung that was a solid workhorse for over 12 years. Hope the second time is a charm.

    Nice TV Very bright

The TV is a very nice TV with the bass speaker in the back. You can get a lot of depth with the picture that you’re watching. But the remote control has a lot to be desired. There is no number keyboard on the remote as you keep surfing through channels if you stop to read, it automatically goes to a channel, very frustrating.

Excellent picture out of the box – important note for mount

Very happy with this purchase. Very bright picture and great quality. Google TV works great and quickly connected all major streaming services. The remote works great, and is illuminated – big advantage over that of much more expensive models such as the LG C2. One important note: the 85″ TCL needs a 600×600 VESA mount. Most mounts sold on amazon don’t fit – I ended up ordering the Monoprice one but haven’t installed it yet.

Huge Screen, Beautiful Picture, Fantastic Price

I previously had a TCL Roku 75 inch TV and was very happy with it. I was interested in going bigger and did a lot of research on the new TCL QM8 85 inch and when Amazon’s price went down, decided to go for it. Sometimes bigger is better- this TV is awesome! The picture detail, brightness and black levels are as good as TVs that cost thousands more. I spent $4.99 for a video on You Tube that very specific advice on detailed settings for the QM8 and within 10 minutes the picture looked outstanding- using the Dolby Vision Bright or Dark or the Movie setting (the Dolby Vision IQ uses some motion smoothing that I don’t like). The point is that if you spend some time on the settings to get the TV to look the way you like you’ll be very happy. Although out of the box the picture is impressive. One of of the big surprises for me was how my Atmos set up sounds so much better since my TV is connected to my receiver. I also love the Google smart TV voice control. No more clicking the remote and speaking into the remote- you’re able to speak to the TV and give commands about playing a specific movie or finding a streaming service (you can even ask, “what’s the weather in NYC?”). And the hundreds of free Google TV channels was a a very nice plus. So the TV is beyond my expectations for amazing picture, great interface and the extras I mentioned. And I recommend to pay the $30 service fee to have Amazon bring the TV to the space you want and set it up. They did a great job and within 20 minutes I was able to fire up the TCL and enjoy.

Depending upon your use case this is probably the best value in the market currently

High brightness and contrast to go with a large color pallet. The picture processing doesn’t measure up to a Sony but that can be said for all other tv’s. All things considered this set provides very good value and quality.

    Google TV sucks

I received this TV about a week ago and now want to send it back. I purchased a TCL 6 series about a year ago with ROKU platform and it is miles ahead of Google TV. This TV can’t turn off my Yamaha home theater receiver. Don’t see any picture difference between this QM8 and my 6-series. Not a happy camper at all. I am highly disappointed considering the money i paid. Also the volume buttons on remote works when they want to. Roku shows a number for volume so you can see it increase decrease. Google TV simply shows you press the volume up down button. Hope the money TCL saved by going with Google was worth it.

UPDATED: Beware – Poor QC – Defective backlight

Update:The vendor was able to get new stock and replaced my QM8 with a new one. Not only does it not have a dark spot, the overall uniformity is far superior to the first one I had. Now, I am pleased with it. Just check as soon as you get it with a white screen to be sure it’s not a defective unit.Original Review:I bought this from another major vendor since Amazon was out of stock. Big mistake. Backlight is clearly defective and now I need to rent a truck again to bring it back to the store because the other vendor… clearly not Best, requires I bring it back to the store. It seems like it would be a very nice TV if the all of the backlight zones worked, but there’s a QC issue and I’d be very wary of this brand/model.

    TCL qm8

Tlc qm8 is almost perfect wow I wasn’t expecting this when I got the 75 inch. I have a oled c9 and it’s just as good with everything motion and picture quality. U may need to tweek it out of the box to make it look like a oled. Now I prefer to watch tv on my tcl over oled lol.

    HUGH DISAPPOINTMENT

Was upgrading my 65 inch Samsung Q95B to an 85 inch tv. Researched for months and believed all the expert raving reviews on this QM8. Unfortunately this was simply a massive disappointment. Bought this from a local big box store due the weight and size of this tv. Compared to the Samsung OLED the TCL simply could not compare in any way. Much vaunted brightness was simply a joke compared to the Samsung. Visual clarity and HDL picture quality was dull and faded. Finally the off angle viewing was pathetic and degraded rapidly when not viewed directly straight on. Returned the TCL after only one day and purchased a SAMSUNG S90C which was admittedly 1500 dollars more expensive but so much better than the TCL. Be warned that if you are transitioning from a good quality OLED TV to QLED TCL you will be VERY DISAPPOINTED ☹️

    Only TV to fail

I have had 30 or more flat screen tv’s. The only TV’s to ever fail are TCL tv’s. Gave 4 to my grandchildren. Personally have had 2. I have never had a TV go out on me except for all but one of the TCL tv’s. Both mine and all but 1 that I gave to my grandchildren. Not built to last.

    OLED’s little brother

This TV is fantastic. If you’re looking for something incredibly bright, colorful, sharp, cinema & gaming excellence, without breaking the bank on an OLED. This is the next best thing. 9/10, would def. recommend the QM8!

Sucks and I paid four figures

Looks great if you’re watching an static image otherwise blurry as f… it doesn’t have a good processor to upscale an image and you’ll end up watching a smear of an image. I would not recommend it to anybody get an oled instead

Incredible picture quality an OLED competitor

I have always been a Sony OLED fan and never thought I would ever switch to QLED. However, OLED doesn’t get bright enough. Especially in a bright room. It was a “no brainer” to consider TCL MQ8! There is a reason this tv won so many awards at CES this year. I was absolutely blown away at the quality of this panel. the colors are extremely vibrant and rich. the 2300 dimming zones on this panel had me thinking it was an OLED! I could not believe how well it handled dark scenes…TCL came swinging hard with the QM8 as a top tier flagship tv. if you’re looking for inky black levels, bright nits panel with incredible colors. then look no further. buy this TV!

I ordered this TV today 85 inches. I can’t wait to write down my review on it. All the stats indicate this is definitely a Champ of a TV.

    TCL Support

Bought TV a little over a year ago, screen began to have black streaks. Customer service was told this, typed wrong notes in the case, and through “trouble shooting” bricked my TV. Owned serval TCL tvs and will never buy from them again. They will break in about a year, leaving you hung out to dry

Works best with 4K Dolby Vision content. 1080p or older not so much.

This TV is fairly priced and gets a lot of hype on the Internet. Truth be told it’s good, but not great. 4K Dolby Vision content looks and performs admirably. 1080P or older content doesn’t upscale well. Also, on the older content it seems hard to me to tune the picture settings and the automatic tuning is poor. For example on YouTube 1080P content there is a lot of pixelation, soap opera effect, and it seems slow to change between 4K and 1080P.

Very disappointed at first 🙁 Then Excitement,, and back to disappointment.

Please read the entire review…High hopes with excitement from all the YouTube testers and reviewers so I purchased one. Once it was set up I started with all the same YouTube test content from the reviewers and testers. That all looked ok, not that impressive. I then pulled out my extensive 4K UHD library and started to play everything I thought looked awesome on my old TV. I was like what’s wrong with this TV. After checking all my 8K 48gb HDMI cables, I have to say I wanted to cry. The TV looked awful, images looked hazy unless it was a completely still image. there was a lot of motion blur and motion judder. I updated the firmware/software as part of the setup process when first turning on the TV and before watching anything. I tried restarting the TV via the menu with the remote. I tried adjusting all the picture and motions settings but nothing helped. the only content that looked good, was content that was 60 fps. anything else looked awful. Bottom line I started the process of returning it… It was scheduled for return pickup in a few days. The next day my wife just wanted to watch the TV to listen to the news and it wouldn’t turn on his the remote or the button on the TV.. Odd. I unplugged the TV for a few minutes. Then OMG ! when the TV came back on it was like a totally different TV than the day before. What a roller coaster of emotion. I got excited again.. I played all the same 4K reference material, streaming content and lower quality cable TV. I watched about 4 hours of everything from test patterns, streaming content, DVD’s, Blu-ray and 4K content all looked great in respect for the quality of the content. I’ve since cancelled the return. Then a couple days of use the TV developed a incredibly annoying high pitch power supply wine during scene changes and or bright txt on the screen. 😫 I contacted TCL went through several troubleshooting steps with no resolve. TCL was going to warranty the TV but this experience left such a bad TCL taste in my mouth I decided to return it and not get any TV right now. Thanks for reading my review and I hope it helps with your purchasing decision or helps correct any issue your having with your TV. It’s a awesome TV for the price if you get a good one.

Not a bad TV, but not as good as several others.

I had read several reviews here and on other sites about how amazing this TV was and comparable to an OLED. I bought this for my cottage and it was delivered and set up by Amazon, which was fine. They came as promised on time and were very nice. The TV has Google TV. I am very used to ROKU. Believe me, there is no comparison. Google is no where’s near as easy and doesn’t have the apps of ROKU. I will be utilizing a ROKU player soon. The head phone output is the only analog sound output and I thought that would work to cable to my stereo system. It worked for a while, then never worked again. The picture quality to me isn’t as good as my 4 year old Vizio P series set. It is supposed to be so bright up to 3,000 nits? But the Vizio at 2,000 nits is brighter and has a sharper picture. So what is so much better about the micro LEDs?I wish I had gone with a more expensive LG.

Great TV for movies; game mode is lacking.

Great TV for the price, however gaming performance is lacking. Not uncommon for LCD TVs, but the full array local dimming is basically non-existent in game mode. More importantly however, I am getting severe ghosting during movements in game mode. This is especially so with VRR turned on. From my experience, this will either result in shadows having a green shift to them in motion, or a sort of brown smearing. This happens on multiple HDMI 2.1 rated HDMI cables. Overall, the image in game mode just looks very messy to me. If you don’t game often, this will be a fantastic value. Unfortunately for me however, I do require a bit more performance in my game mode.

Dark image out of the box but easily fixed

A few minutes into watching this TV I was ready to return it. I could not get the image bright enough. However, after updating the firmware and resetting the TV, I achieved the correct brightness level.I like the TV but occasionally it looks like the brightness of the picture changes while watching a movie scene. It doesn’t happen all the time. Perhaps it’s by design- I don’t know. The only reason I am writing this review today is because when I visited the product page to see its dimensions, I see that the TV has already been discounted by $300. The TV was just released 30 days ago. There’s no holiday or Prime Day sale. I mean, geez. :-/

    Returned – Not impressed

I bought this TV after seeing positive reviews by several YouTube channels and online user reviews. My experience, however was not the same. I tried various picture settings, but was never that impressed. The picture is not bad, but besides not being 4K, I much prefer my 10 year old Panasonic plasma. The TCL has great black levels, but that comes at the expense of less picture detail. I’d recommend watching FOMO’s review: “Surprising Truth about MiniLED TVs.” I also don’t like how with Dolby Vision IQ, which gave me the best picture with applicable content, you can’t turn off motion smoothing. Overall, this would be fine as a bedroom TV, but I wouldn’t use it as a main living room/media room TV. I will be looking to get an OLED.

    great tv

Bought this TCL tv here at Amazon, about a month ago, after reading a ton of reviews and comparisons. Ordered it to be delivered and unpacked for $30. Because the 85-inch is so big, you need three people to unpack and attach the tv stand. Two Amazon workers delivered it, but they needed my help. The Amazon guys were polite but it looked like they didn’t know how to attach this model’s tv stand; I had to look in the instructions to help them. Luckily, it all turned out ok. One of the guys said that for any big tv it’s best to keep the box just in case so that if something is wrong, you can return any tv during the Amazon one-month return window. It’s our first tv – very happy with the quality, beautiful colors. Highly recommend. Looks like the price of this tv went up $800 since last month.

    So much potential.

Can’t help but feel TCL left so much on the table with this unit. They do not seem to be supporting it at all. Zero updates in months with known issues. I know there is no perfect TV but these companies are capable of making them better, they just don’t. They consider these thousands of dollars units disposable.

If you want good Dolby Vision DO NOT buy this TV yet

Everything is super dark in Dolby Vision with the QM8. A big reason is you can’t adjust the brightness much because you only have 3 choices. (Dark, Bright, IQ. bright is still really dark)I was just comparing Avatar WotW in DV and HDR and DV looked so boring comparatively, just very washed out.According to the folks on AVS forums it’s because the eotf isn’t tracking correctly. Rtings has said TCL told them they’re looking into it but I would not buy the TV until it’s fixed. It’s a bummer because otherwise this TV is fantastic. I’ll try to remember to update this comment if TCL comments/fixes the problem. As of right now the Hisense U8K might be worth looking into if you don’t wanna wait.
