It doesn’t matter if you lose the manual
I bought one for my own office and it works very well, the stand scans automatically, even if the instructions are lost, it does not matter.

Do not buy!
I purchased this barcode scanner for my student badges, hoping for a smooth scanning experience. Unfortunately, it has been a frustrating journey. The scanner consistently misreads text, mixing uppercase and lowercase letters randomly, and even replaces certain letters like ‘B’ with ‘F’.What’s most disappointing is the lack of response from customer service after reaching out for help. I expected better support for a product like this.Overall, I cannot recommend this barcode scanner for any professional or educational use.

The potential
While there isn’t anything wrong with the scanner itself, I wish it had true Bluetooth as it won’t connect it via dongle from my phone. I have an adapter but the work phone I was going to use has security features to prevent you from accessing the port.

Ideal for small business owners
As a Mac User, I was immediately drawn in to this product because it explicitly mentions the compatibility with the Mac OS system. I was not disappointed. I own a smalltime business in my free time and therefore I occasionally have to use this sort of scanner. So far, I have had no problems. At first I was a little bit concerned about the laser scanner feature in the USA market but I was pleased to discover there were no hold-ups or issues. The compatibility with the USB function is exceptionally useful as wired scanners automatically restrict movement. This means that the scanner could theoretically be used in stores so that they customers could see the value of their shopping at any time (a bit like they do in Waitrose)The design is light and needs little setting up. Again with the customer idea, it is durable enough to withstand some small falls.Overall, this is ideal for anyone running a small business or involved in the selling of any products in large quantities. I have no complaints so far.

False Advertising
I already knew based on the photos provided that this would be a Chinese knockoff or something but I got a refund earlier this week on an item I never received so I had cash to waste. HOWEVER, on anyone looking for a WIRELESS Scanner, I recommend looking somewhere else.I purchased the scanner with the expectation that I can walk anywhere inside my building scanning many items and reviewing them later. Before I took it to my place of business, I had a quick test run down of the scanner.1. It is easy to use, plug and play type deal. Scan, Beep, you’re done. I followed the instructions and did the initialization and finished.2. There’s no clear instructions of what the lights mean. I see red, blue, green on but had to find out what they mean by context. Red = power, Blue = Bluetooth, green = I have no idea.3. This is where false advertising comes to play. There is not rechargeable battery. I assumed I was wrong which brings me back here (and why I’m writing a review to begin with). It’s not external, it’s “Built-in” yet every time I unplug it, it shuts off, there isn’t even an on or off button anywhere, so there isn’t a way to control that if it even had it.4. 80 meters of indoor Bluetooth?!?! I admit I had issue with turning Bluetooth on, but after appropriately activating it, I can’t go 2 feet away from the receiver before the scanner annoyingly beeps trying to regain connection to the receiver.5. Manual is also trash, assuming I’m wrong on every one of these, the manual isn’t clear on anything to begin with.

Nice little surprise, feels more expensive than it costs!
Got my bar code scanner though the post, attacked the packaging and headed to nearest USB port I could find, as I do with all my new techie presents. The PROSTER scanner didn’t disappoint, plugged in the cable, fired up my text editor and scanned a DVD and hey presto the barcode appeared on the screen. No installation was needed for me it ran straight out of the box, it comes set up to scan UK barcodes and hit enter afterwards with a confirmation beep, all of this can be changed by scanning special barcodes on the supplied leaflet.Great item at a great price, with a longer guarantee period of 18 months. Would recommend this product without hesitation. A wireless option might also be useful too depending on the use you want this for, I personally want to catalogue my music collection of over 2000 lps, cds and dvd’s. Anyone suggest the best software for doing this?

Good budget device.
Does the job. The manual power switch is a very smart design choice since it prevents accidental trigger presses while the device is in the holster or bag. Read distance and decode ability are on par with others in this price range. We are using a number of them at a warehouse.

Not the Best – Low Accuracy Scan Area – ALL CAPS is HIT or MISS
The Symcode MJ-4590 barcode reader is probably a good product if you don’t need all CAPS, don’t care if barcode is same as scanned, and do not have more than one (1) barcode on a label / box. In our case, we had to cover all other barcodes on box to scan with reader due to low accuracy; randomly reader does not read barcode even though it may beep, scans random area and does not read where red dot is pointed so we were not sure why they have a red dot appear anyway. The ALL CAPS setting did not work so we scanned to another app and then chose font ‘ALL CAPS’ since this barcode reader could not consistently read properly. In ALL CAPS mode, reader would often mix letter case within the same barcode. We made a shield to cover all the barcodes on box so eliminate the scan region issue but was too time consuming to use that and copy paste from secondary app for ALL CAPS. Returned this barcode reader.

Reading
The reading speed was very fast and it could read all kinds of 1D barcodes without any settings, and it also reads 2D barcodes well. After using it for inventory, I also connected it to my POS system and used it as a cashier register scanner.

Set up was quite simple and this barcode scanner is extremely easy to use.
We are using this wireless scanner to scan barcodes of all our participants as they check in and out of work. Scanning the barcodes and using the wireless scanner is helping us to be more efficient in making sure we have the correct time and attendance for all our participants. This is a lot better than writing all this information down or entering it manually into the computer. Set up was quite simple and this barcode scanner is extremely easy to use. This has helped cut down on our work a lot. The quality is very nice. It’s a great scanner at a great price!

Great design.
The great thing about this scanner is that it is put into the stand to automatically scan, and get it in your hand is manually keyed to scan without scanning the setup code, so I don’t have to go looking for the setup code in the manual.

Consistent flaw in every scanner
I have so far purchase 6 of these scanners. I have several locations which use these for inventory. Among the many different wireless scanners I have tried I find this one to be the most reliable for the money, and luckily the easiest to repair, because every scanner I have purchased has the same issue. There is a small plastic lever on top of the trigger which presses a button on the circuit board above it when the trigger is pulled. Sooner or later this lever will break, and your scanner will do nothing when you pull the trigger. Using some super glue with a quick setting accelerator this lever can be repaired fairly easily. If you use enough glue it is unlikely to break again.Every one of these cheaper wireless scanners I have purchased over the years has failed due to a poorly designed plastic trigger. The part of the trigger that is pressing the push button in the circuitry eventually breaks. This particular scanner is just the easiest to fix when it happens. Other than that the scanner is great. I hope the manufacturer addresses this issue in the future.

Nice scanner, dumb power connection
Bought two of these scanners to augment the existing 4 I had from other vendors. We use them for inventory and provisioning VoIP phones. The device itself is very typical. Small USB receiver. Decent construction with the scanner itself. The response time is on par with others of the same price range. The range of the receiver is decent as well. We use it from 4-10 feet away. The battery also lasts a long time. You can connect the charging cable which terminates in USB B to your computer and just use the device in cabled mode. All of this is typical for these devices. What’s not typical is the charging connection. Instead of a USB A (aka host) connection it uses an RJ45. These are the connectors you would find on a network patch cord. Think phone connector, but bigger. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem except that the latch is covered by the scanner’s housing. In order to disconnect the cable you need to stick a paperclip or pin into a small hole to push the RJ45 latch. This creates a very strong connection when you’re using the device in cabled mode. But makes it a huge inconvenience when all you want to do is charge the scanner. For that reason I deducted 1 star.

No stand
Ordered version with stand. No stand. Sent back for replacement. Replacement came without a stand. Gave up. Scanner itself is fine. Holds charge for a long time. Been using it a couple of months now on the original charge it came with and have not charged it yet. Use it to scan about 50-100 scans 5 days a week. So light use. But still…great charge and/or energy economy.Just left 3 stars because the description and photos include a stand which I did not receive…TWICE.

Capable
Superficially very similar in styling to others of their barcode scanners, this “USB Wireless Barcode Scanner,Symcode Handheld Laser Barcode Reader (2.4GHz Wireless & USB2.0 Wired) with Receiver Storage of up to 10000 Code” needs a WiFi connection, usually a one-time only procedure unless used on multiple networks. The various models differ most obviously by colour accents. There is no Bluetooth or other connection choice which greatly simplifies its use as pairing and other such methods which can occasionally fail are avoided. It has a power switch to the rear and the operating trigger is at the front, under the forefinger. It is powered by a lithium battery within the handle that is claimed to provide a full month’s service per charge and equivalent to around 180,000 individual scans although spare batteries are readily available should they be needed; one could be stored fully-charged as a possible stand-by or for when the original is externally re-charged. However to attain full storage capacity, the battery will need a few (usually about 5 or 6) recharge cycles from flat, not top-ups, until which time it may offer fewer scans per charge and a shorter period of use. Used six days a week, it could eventually cope with around 6000 scans daily, but few will ever need that many. It can also store 5000 scans internally. A mini-USB cable is included for charging but a cradle is not; one is separately available if required for POS or similar situations. The package includes a USB WiFi receiver that Inateck suggests MUST be used regardless of whether or not the PC or other device to which it is be be connected is otherwise WiFi enabled. Because it is WiFi-connected, it can potentially partner any device using any operating system including Windows, Mac, most tablets and smartphones and also Raspberry Pi but, as it has no means by which a router’s identity, passcode etc can be entered and stored, it is assumed that it uses its own internal Network. Connecting the receiver to some devices may therefore present an issue. This barcode reader could serve in retail, POS, dispatch, stock control and various other roles in commerce or otherwise as well as some ‘library’ situations involving books, optical media, vinyl records, perhaps even toys and games. It will function with a variety of software that offers a barcode scan function unless that software is ‘tied’ to a specific scanner or brand. It will recognise numerous standard formats, QR codes specifically excluded, but includes those of FedEx, UPS and ChinaPost. Currently, there is no means by which additional dedicated barcode formats could be added other than possibly at a later date via firmware. Codes must be printed on paper, plastic or metal but those displayed on-screen will not be recognised. There is an extensive manual packaged with the product that is printed in good English, avoiding the pitfalls of ‘Chinglish’, and which includes an extensive series of barcodes that need be scanned to set specific features and options, including language, volume, etc.It is a very capable and workable product that is easy to use provided that the WiFi receiver can be inserted into a usable port – a Thunderport or USB-C to USB adapter or an OTG cable may be needed in some instances – and should provide service well into the future. It is advisable to keep the manual safe and handy in the event that a setting may need to be later changed or to better serve different uses or varying requirements. It is quite affordable relative to some used in the past that were less capable while considerably more expensive. It was noted during the later stages of writing of this review that there is a firmware update (not all will need it if the date of manufacture is very recent) that exists as a .BIN file on Symcode’s Support page but without any accompanying usage instructions. If there were a relevant page within the manual or a separate Instructions sheet that would be of little consequence but neither exists! That oversight has resulted in the loss of a * in the rating assessment despite the existence of a BootLoader.RAR package (apparently Windows only) that, once unpacked, checks the scanner’s firmware and later updates it when necessary but which is also undocumented, thus losing a second *. As best known, it does not download the update which may need to be located and downloaded in advance; that currently available is more than 2 years old! There was an inclination to deduct yet a further * from the rating due to the lack of general clarity within its manual and obviously unresolved questions that remain, but a *** rating is deemed to accurately reflect the product and its documentation.

Good Product but the battery doesn’t last long when never sleep mode.
It’s a very good scanner that is capable of decoding just about every symbology including both one and two dimensional barcodes such as QR codes PDF417, Aztec code, Maxicode, etc. But the battery could not last long as described as standby 60 days. When you use never sleep Scanning Mode, it only can be used by 2 days.

Worth the buy!
The media could not be loaded.
I got it today and set it up. I couldnt stop “playing” with it. Of course I need it for inventory, but I have always had a weakness for barcode scanners since I was a kid. Lol.Its very light weight, easy to use, easy to set up, and very fast. The 2d feature works great. Honeatly this product is a win. Some others at the same price point dont even have all of these cool features. This one is definitely priced well. I will update if anything. changes.I was hesitant to buy because of a couple of other reviews, but ultimately decided to take a chance because it is prices well and has all of the features i was looking for. Im so happy that i decided to take the chance because this adorable little scanner didn’t disappoint at all!

Not well made. Never worked right and now not at all.
I bought two of these for use at my library and have tried for the past two months to get them to scan consistently. The manual that came with them weren’t for the model I bought, so we had to look for the correct one. We tried canceling and resetting the settings but it still doesn’t work. Now neither one will scan at all; not UPCs, not library barcodes, nothing. The company did send me a different QR code for cancelling the preceding letter C from the barcode but since they don’t work, I can’t test it. My return window unfortunately closed before I gave up on both so I’m stuck with no scanners having spent the money based on reviews I read. Please do not buy this product.

Thank you for such GREAT Customer Service
I didn’t rate this product when I originally purchased it back in Aug 2022. However, The product originally had some issues with connecting to my USB on my laptop. Sometimes it would work with the dongle then sometimes I had to use the actual plug in. My USB would give me an error code that would state the item plugged into the USB has malfunctioned; I figured this was my computers issue, so I didn’t think to contact Amazon about it. Unfortunately it went out completely a week ago and I had to use our work scanner (this same brand just not wireless), which then I realized it was not my PC. I contacted Amazon, who informed me that I was past my return/refund period and that I would have to contact the manufacture. Let me tell you, I emailed them this weekend (Saturday) and by Monday morning they had replied and apologized that I was having an issue and offered a replacement right away, all I had to do was to send my address (Monday evening I sent my address) and by the VERY NEXT DAY I had a replacement on my door step when I returned from work. This is want makes for exceptional customer service. I have not had a chance to try my new scanner, but I can say I believe this company stands behind their product, so I trust this will work just fine…

Worth Consideration if looking.
The scanner works as expected. I have to give it 5 stars cause the two things I don’t like about it are my misunderstanding. Secondly, the read distance is not great, misread 35M range and though wow, it is a laser I guess. The range refers to the bluetooth connectivity. I would have loved it it could read the top rack of the shelving in the warehouse. Funny though, I haven’t tested the bluetooth range!

the unit works just fine. Thank God for Amazon reviews
Just a helpful note. When I tried to scan wirelessly, it didn’t work. After carefully reading the instructions, I found a note stating that the scanner and receiver (usb plug) were manufactured in different places and may not communicate. There are three barcodes in the instructions that direct the units to talk to one another. You just scan these codes (it only takes seconds) and presto, the wireless works. Please try this before you return the unit. Things shouldn’t be this tricky, but this is not uncommon. After the correction, the unit works just fine. Thank God for Amazon reviews. They have helped me so many times. I am trying to return the favors.

It supports many standard barcode formats
It supports many standard barcode formats that includes those of UPS, Fedex and unsurprisingly ChinaPost; other carriers are not covered unless they use a supported standard format. It can even read VIN codes. However, it requires a barcode to be printed on paper, plastic or bright metal but it does not recognise QR codes under any circumstances or any displayed on-screen. Ideally the code should be flat but it can read them if curved and 20mm or greater diameter. It can recognise, in most instances, codes that are scratched, torn or otherwise damaged or partly obliterated provided that some portion of every bar line remains intact but those of poor quality may not be read. The reader may need to be rotated away from the horizontal to achieve a reading in such instances.

Excellent value for money.
Scanner seemed to install as a plug-and-play device on my computer, quite quickly and easily, connecting as a USB keyboard that outputs the scanned sequence of numbers followed by a carriage return. How this is handled by the computer is of course dependent on what kind of software one uses it with. As I currently don’t have any barcode scanning software installed, I tried it on Google where most of the barcodes I scanned initiated a web search that found the correct product scanned as the top search result.I also tried scanning a few different kinds of codes, including the tracking number on the parcel in which I received the scanner, and it all was read flawlessly quickly, and with no strain on my wrist.

Worked for awhile then I had to fix it. Then it broke again. Manufacturer reached out to me with a replacement. Will uptdate
I must have the worst luck with scanners. This one failed after a few hours of use. I decided to take this thing apart and see what the heck was the issue. This is mechanically very simple and the problem was simply a bent plastic lever. It took longer to reassemble than it took to repair. After running it for about two hours the beeper inside it stopped functioning. The manufacturer reached out to me and offered to send me a replacement unit. I am very optimistic about this and thrilled regarding their customer service. Will update.

Scantastic
The Symcode Wireless Barcode Scanner is ideal for any jobs that require scanning a large number of objects such as cataloging, my use is my rather large CD and DVD collection. It is supplied boxed with a USB lead for charging and instructions which also include sample barcodes as well as codes to set up the device so do not lose them! It has a number of advantages over using your mobile phone in that it will store and forward the codes and has a 35m range from the host device if you are remote from it when you are scanning.

The first unit was D.O.A. however the return was not questioned and very fast, implying good customer service. The replacement unit works but I cannot cancel the CR/LF function with the included control codes. This makes it almost more trouble to use than not having the extra scanner available.

Works Very Well With Window 10
I just charged it up using the provided USB cable till the red LED light goes out, with my Windows 10 computer on I just plugged the dongle into a spare USB port and then turned on the bar-code gun and scanned a code.It goes “beep” and the little green light flashes to confirm the code is scanned okay.I am using with DVD Profiler.Make sure you look after the manual and other literature as if you need to reconfigure it the special codes provided are needed to change settings / modes.Range seems great, I only went about 8 metres from the PC with no issues.

The wireless receiver will stop working within a few days. Product worked great for the first week, then the wireless USB stopped working when I tried the using the USB on a new computer. Even resorting back to the old computer won’t work. Tried on Windows 10, Mac OS-X (11.4), and Debian. The manual that comes with the scanner is in broken English, with grammatical and spelling errors that make it difficult to read or understand. The scanner will still work when plugged into the device via the cable, however I needed wireless functionality and am going to have to buy a new scanner.

DO NO BUY!! DOESN’T WORK
I bought this hoping to use with my Windows 10 laptop. It powers on, but it will not scan anything. Not even the barcodes from the user’s manual. I also tried on a Chromebook and again nothing happened. This scanner is basically trash. I wasted my money on this. I’m hoping to save you the time and money. Mine is a dud and unfortunately, it’s worthless to me.
