Maybe It’s Me
Luckily I snagged delivery and install at N/C on Prime Day, thanks Amz! Otherwise this wd already be back home in its warehouse. At 55″, I’ve never owned such a massive TV b4 and grateful I held at 55″ regardless that CR, Tom’s and others recommending 65″ as being better-bang-for-buck-componants-all- encompassing products. They’re assessments are probably, technically, correct bc I’m not blown away. I upgraded from a 2007, Samsung 720 non-HD, using a high end indoor antenna which was barely useful being in metrowest Boston. Without an Amz Firestick 2019-21(?) it would have been almost useless. But it lasted me a good long while and it got a workout from 2019-half of 2022. I wanted a new TV and have researched for *years*, no lie. Found a Sony 4K Oled and list it this was the next choice based upon the fewest amount of 1-3 Star Reviews. And Free set up.I mean, *of course*, the picture clarity and sound are **Superlative** as compared to an old Sammy, 32″, 2007″, 720, wobbly on a broken, desktop stand. But this new one was impossible to move- I couldn’t reach the back of the TV to attach HDMI, UBS, Antenna Cables, not even my Firestick hookup. My Sammy at least had 4 ports on the side. The feet on this are firmly planted, a good thing, but for a short, female, DAP, senior, I couldn’t move it. Even a ladder didn’t help. The Remote is also a trip. All in black, tall and lithe with teeny buttons, squinting was useless. A flashlight helped. Everything is comicated and I didn’t know why. I’m tech savvy. Then I saw it it, in the upper left corner, the dreaded words “Google”. No further explainations needed. I know Google and they were created to exasperated. So proprietary, it may as well have been an apple notIproduct. So I called OnTech who brought a wall mount and a bunch of tools+ HDMI cables+ethernet cables. And kinda hard sold me a sound bar and sub woofer. I stopped him at Surround Speakers. So now I had a watchable TV. On angles and movable with great picture. Which I couldn’t move. The installer was 6’6 of muscle and I’m 5’3 of flab. It was so high, I couldn’t move that TV nor turn it to reach the rear-only ports nor the on off switch when I misplaced the skinny black remote. The sound bar didn’t work nor did the sub woofer. BTW! The TV speakers are very good, decent, I could hear clearly, sharply and perfectly at lowered volumns!Back came OnTech to lower and loosen up the [their, not my prepaid] wall mount. Of course, the Giant had done everything backasswards; To make a long day shorter, the 2nd Tech was here for 2+hours. Now, I have a functioning TV, a lowered *secured* wall mount I can access, a sound bar that works. Two functional Remotes.Quality Picture and instructions how to makevthings the wY I want them. And Surround Sound. We’re both music aficionados and…I just couldn’t keep my curiosity at bay. It’s a good TV. At $850 or so, it’s a bargain, really. My only really big gripe is that I lost all access to my prepaid Apps: HULU, STARZ,SHOWTIME. Nine of the apps recognized me and I was used to my Firestick logging me in automatically which it no longer would. Even -frustratingly, manually- logged on, my stuff no longer existed. Thanks, Google.Do I recommend the TV? The Seller is phenomenal, the most helpful Seller, even pre-sale, I’ve ever worked with. No question is a stupid one. Amz Home Delivery- excellent, efficient, friendly, helpful, experienced. I only regret that I had no Tip $ and that * I’d kept the boxes, a big oops on my end*.I’d consider this an affordable, high-middle of the road 4K HD TV. I trust Sony. I haven’t had it long enough to comment whether I’d buy this exact TV again. However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it but my Learning Curve. P.S. You do not need a Sound Bar unless you plan to listen to a lot of music.

Awesome picture quality and great for gaming
I have had many Sony TVs as I want them to work well and in sync with the Playstation performance, I am satisfied with overall picture and quality, this TV adds a little more with the 120Hz refresh rate and some minor custom settings for improving gaming quality (reduce motion blur) so overall I am satisfied. As a side note the feet on the TV are very deep (18″) and standard TV stand are normally 15″ or below. and if like me you dont have the option to wall mount it, it’s a challenge. I dont think i can post a link in this review going to a competitor site so do search for SAUDER Morgan stand if you need (it’s perfect with 20″ depth), it’s little more expensive but does fit any 85″ TVs including this one

Good TV, BUT…….
This is my first Sony as I have always been a Samsung person. Here’s my take on this TV:Picture Quality- Great pictures if you are looking directly at the TV. Details is beautiful. However, side range is bad. Picture quality is not so great and can be a little blurry. I recommend getting a wall mount that allow you to turn the TV.App on TV – Most of them works good. However, if you are looking forward to using Apple TV app on this TV, well you’re out of luck. Hopefully Apple will update the app to work on this TV soon. If you are an Apple TV box and was excited to consolidate like me, sorry.Worth the Money – I can’t say yes because I’m disappointed with a few things about the TV and how I had to buy M6 bolts as it doesn’t come with it. Remote also has to be directly in front of TV to work well. So far my first experience with Sony TV has not been what I would say great.

So happy I went with this purchase! If you’re looking for a new TV, look no further!
Also upgraded my gaming system at the same time, went from a Gen1 PS4 to a PS5. Wanted to fix lag issues I was having while gaming, so had to get a high refresh rate TV to get the most out of the new powerful system. At first was thinking about buying a Samsung TV from Target, but their cheapest 120hz TV cost $1100. Then I found this high refresh rate X85K on Amazon for $700, which saved me $400! Considering Amazon was also selling PS5’s for $500, I almost got the bundle for what I was originally going to spend at Target for just a TV, minus the PS5, So happy I went with Amazon instead! What’s also cool is both devices talk to each other, since they’re both Sony, which makes setup extra easy and the TV remote also works on the PlayStation which is nice when watching YouTube videos. As far as picture quality and reducing lag on the PS5, ten stars! You’d be hard pressed to find something better for the price point. No joke a TV like this 10 years ago would’ve cost you $3-5k, truly amazing Amazon is only selling these for $700. Does take some technical skills to properly setup and tweak the settings, but once you’ve unlocked the high speed 120hz refresh rate by putting the TV into “high performance mode” your gaming experience will blow you away, it’s like playing a totally new game! Everything is so smooth and fast, colors are richer, load screens are shorter, enemies die faster since the game and TV can process what’s going on in milliseconds, meaning you’ll also die less in PVP! I wish I bought this X85K/PS5 bundle sooner, but kinda glad I did wait became now the price on everything has come down and PS5’s are finally in stock at a reasonable price (disc $500, no disc $400). No more haggling with shady flippers on Craigslist & eBay who wanted $600-800. Get this setup while they’re still in stock, you won’t regret it!

Great tv
Sony has always been at the top when it comes to TVs. The picture is great, and so is the sound. In fact, as in the picture my cat loves it as well. The size is great for bedrooms. Just be careful; since it is flat, it is fragile. Handle with care.

Sony always comes through.
This is a great TV. Totally clear picture. Vibrant colors . Great sound. I have to let my Mom play her Dimash singing Opera 2 or 1 of his other videos. Just so she can see him on a bigger screen and she can blast his belts. Which is cool, I like his music as well. Pretty sure when her TV dies, she’ll get one of these (maybe the bigger screen though).

Buy it!!!!
10/10 I’d recommend. This is the best TV I’ve ever owned. I’ve been a lifelong Samsung tv fan and wanted something different after reading several reviews. Everything from the software to the picture and sound quality(I usually have a sound bar) is amazing. The 120 hz has been great for sports and gaming. The colour is very accurate and the hdr 10 makes movies and tv shows look better than they should. Overall one of my favorite purchases of the year.

Triluminous display is sick. Game compatibility and much more if you have ps5
The media could not be loaded.
Sony never messes with their products. 4k and 120 hz refresh rate is a bliss in about 600$ for a 50 inch TV

Impressed with image quality
Too new and no reviews so my decision was more about the latest Android based streaming capabilities to replace a three year old $280 43 inch LG with failed WiFi. Sony has the most recent model with this capabiltiy. The color, image sharpness, contrast, and brightness are impressive. Looking at the individual hairs in some critter’s fur during a nature shows is like you’re there with good binoculars.Setup is the normal confusing process even for us who spent a career forgetting more than we learned working on consumer electronics. The lack of instruction for the remote control is impressive, thus the image. For a streaming control device it was confusing for no fast forward or rewind control. It turns out the ring around the select button is where the magic happens. Left arrow with each push will go back 15 second and multiple pushes add the time up. Same with the right arrow and it will jump forward if there is content. A must have for avoiding commercials in a time shifted DVR life. The Android “Google TV” streaming app works well. Again it is experimentation as to what button does what with the remote to see if you can get there from here. Of course you “Google it” to find the answers.Having the streaming app native to the tv reduces the number of times the digital signal is modified to conform with some protocol on its way to your screen. The new Sony in one room using the same network and live ESPN stream is displaying the video ahead of a LG tv using a HDMI feed from a ROKU. Image on the Sony seemed less crisp when the input came from the ROKU HDMI feed. Possible implicit bias from a long ago Sony Trintron repair person, and of course I would buy it again. Cheers

Hardware is good, but the software has some bugs
Few problems I have noted with this TVa. built in OTA guide does not refresh that often, when a channel moves around you have to wait for Sony to apply their quarterly update to the TV (per their forums).b. might be related to above but no TV guide for OTA ATSC3.0 channels in the Detroit market.c. unable to get the TV to accept a 120hz feed from a Gigabyte RTX 3060 with latest drivers, will just display a small screen (1024×768) in the center of the TV. Never had that problems feeding my other TV at 120Hz, have tried multiple cables.d. using Variable Refresh Rate on the one HDMI port results in audio dropping out for no reason.

Perfect for bedroom setup
I have a higher raised computer desk lifting this TV so my partner and I can watch shows or play games on the bed. I’m in love with this TV’s HDR and color grading. Every color looks so vibrant it looks awesome when watching a movie with a lot of color like Guardians of the Galaxy. Having a higher refresh rate for games also feels so nice. Definitely recommend this TV.

Not bad, but nothing special…
I got this TV mainly to watch 4K movies and occasionally play the Xbox Series X. I have to be honest, compared to OLED TVs within the price range, it’s nothing special. I’ve actually been contemplating purchasing an OLED and swapping this one out in the near future. For starters – the 120Hz for gaming is nice, but you’re required to go without on certain picture/processor fronts to get both the highest resolution and 120Hz running simultaneously. I’ve tried several calibrations to get better (and more accurate color) and its just never there. It’s either too dark, or too washed out. I own a Samsung QLED TV that out of the box looks amazing, but this Sony has required way more tinkering and the results still don’t feel worth the price. You will definitely need the sound-bar — which is common for these flatscreens as sound is not the primary function of the screen. Assembly was easy enough and it’s pretty stable. It just feels a bit dated compared to other TV that released around the same time.I can’t really recommend it at the current price point. If it drops about $150, then it’s a decent bargain. At this price point, I’d rather sacrifice the 120Hz (which you don’t use for movies) and go with either a QLED or OLED.

Great first impression
Bought this because of the good reviews and narrow footprint. I’m not a big fan yet of the Google system, but the setup was quick and easy in terms of linking to the internet and reading linked devices. The picture out of the box is excellent and I’m not sure if tweeks are even needed.A perfect size for a bedroom or smaller den.Amazon delivered the TV a day early as well.

Top quality smart TV. Excellent streaming features, works wirelessly or with ethernet.
It’s Sony! Excellent picture quality, easy set-up, works wirelessly or with ethernet which was an important feature for us. Good refresh rate for sporting events. Excellent buy for streaming and use with Apple TV (our current TV access), or Google. We are Sony TV loyalists and currently own 2 and a Sony CRT long ago. Our selection of Sony products began when we purchased a Sony Walkman and it still ran perfectly well after15+ years. May still have it packed in a box.

I love the tv but hate that it wont default to the hdmi plugged in
it was a huge pain to try and mount this myself and the people unpacking it really gripped the screen despite the box directions. The tv quality is amazing and has a good pricebut every time you turn it on it basically throws ads in your face and you have to click over to the hdmi to use it as an extended monitor EVERY time, real annoying that tvs still try to get you to buy stuff.UPDATE: there is a power setting to use “last input used” on power up. which fixes this problem

Adequate for now
Stuck with Sony for over 20 years – this one doesn’t quite have picture adjustments for VHS and older players – Had to replace Sony KD55x after only 4-1/2 years – we are NOT online with our TVs so software chip fried this year all of a sudden. This one has a few less options than our older one – including NO RCA connectability. Have to buy a converter – another electrical plug in to use all three external players. Picture quality okay – Cannot find the non-internet connection TVs anymore – a disappointment to us. This one also does not zoom as well as previous one on those STUPID letterbox size videos! Else – if this one quits without warning – Sony will lose our business – sure they’ll survive with others making them now.

Great picture quality for an LED-based TV
At $550-600 one could get a much larger TV from other brands but at 43 inches you won’t find better processing anywhere else. Just make sure you keep the brightness as low as possible and the contrast around 80 for HDR and 55-65 for SDR. It’s a shame we still using LED these days, but LG and Sony insist on marketing 42-48 inch OLEDs as premium, even though OLED panels are now super cheap to produce. The Sony X85K produces very sharp, smooth images with pretty good blacks and amazing shadow detail, especially in Dolby Vision and HDR. The OS (Google TV) takes some time to master but I would say is second to AppleTV 4K tvOS in overall features and ease of use—just make sure to disable adds and close apps, otherwise it will become laggy and you’ll have to restart the TV to clear the cache. For the time being, the Sony 43 inch X85K will do until LG, Samsung and Sony decide to produce medium-size OLEDs at a much cheaper price.

My favorite tv brand is Sony
The only problem with this tv is I mistakenly ordered a smaller tv than my last one. My last Sony was 48” which I only realized after this 43” was out of the box. It is hard to get used to watching a smaller tv after watching a 48 inch tv for past 8 years. Getting past that disappointment, this 43” Smart Sony, was easily set up and has all bells and whistles you would ever want. The controls are slightly different than my 8 year old Sony but still has a very easy learning curve. The color is great as ever on this tv. It comes with YouTube, Netflix, Disney, and Prime Video and I tried all but Disney so far and all work great. It also has Google TV option but at set up, it gives you the option to set up Google TV or Basic TV, I chose Basic TV and am very happy with that choice. My main interest is Cable viewing, Prime, Netflix, and some YouTube local sports events so Google TV was not of interest for me. All in all, I like my new Smart TV and have not had any problems other than I wished I had ordered a 48” instead of 43”.

Works like a Sony – Fantastic
The Sony 43 Inch 4K Ultra HD TV X85K Series: LED Google TV is the first “Smart TV” I have purchased and am completely satisfied with it. The TV was easy to set up and operate. It provides great images and satisfactory sound while streaming as well as for programs received over the air (OTA) from the antenna I have in the attic. I highly recommend this product.

All around good for being a TV. But isn’t the best monitor.
I needed a bigger screen cause I hate how much I hunched over trying to read something on a small screen for work. I really enjoy having this as a screen for the most part, but the input latency is a bit of a bother for me. I have manipulated the settings and even tried different cords and GPUs (not trying to fix the problem, just swapped to new hardware around the same time). I run my resolution on 2k instead of 4k and that seemed to help quite a bit. I might just end up keeping this thing a solely a TV and buying something else

Great TV
We are using this as a TV…no gaming etc.As a TV, it’s very impressive. We left behind an early Vizio flat screen…allegedly 1080 P. Admittedly, the old Vizio has served us well since replacing a 35″ CRT…which gives you an idea of how old the Vizio is. (I just gave it away to someone who has no TV.) The Sony, by comparison, is like the characters on the screen are in the room with you. The blacks are, well, BLACK. Quite a feat. Detail is impressive….you know those scenes where someone is showing you a cell phone? There’s a better than good chance that we’ll be able to read what’s on the cell phone screen. No real gripes, but two heads ups.1) We have been using an Amazon Fire Cube. We have a Prime account, and EVERYTHING we want is already programmed into the Cube. I just wanted to connect the Cube to an HDMI input and go. Not so fast. One MUST go through the Google setup process first, including logging into one’s Google account, to get the show on the road. A PITA to say the least. In my case, the Amazon Fire Cube drives an AV receiver, which, in turn, feeds the TV. I don’t need no Google nohow!! Nor do I need the TV to be connected to WiFi…the Cube is connected to WiFi. But, I’m sure Google needs to harvest all the data it can, so I knuckled under and did the setup.2) Next, the TV has an HDMI port to connect to your AV Receiver. Not so fast. My Sony AV receiver talks to the Sony TV just fine…too fine, in fact. And the TV thinks it’s in charge. I have “god’s own” STEREO system…outstanding powered sub and satellites. I don’t have Dolby surround or any of that nonsense, because I don’t want it. I have a fantastic center channel speaker gathering dust in the garage, because I don’t like all the contrived nonsense. I put my “rear” channel speakers to good use as satellites for a second system in my office. Stereo is fine. Well, the TV won’t take no for an answer on demanding that the AV receiver go into Dolby surround…and coming out of a stereo system, that sounds like garbage…and I could NOT override it…regardless of what I tried. I moved the input to HDMI-1 and all was right with the world. So, aside from the TV having plans for world domination (or at least system domination), I’m thrilled with it.I thank others who warned that the shipping packaging is easily damaged…and so is the TV inside. As luck would have it, my shipping packaging came through in perfect condition, but I appreciate the heads up.With my two caveats in mind, I’ll give this TV rave reviews.

Performance
Perfect size for the room, the expected Sony quality and the sharpness of the picture. However, after three different type fixtures I can’t get it mounted on the wall. Even buying the model and extra hardware recommended by the Sony parts department, the pieces don’t fit. That doesn’t detract from the satisfaction with the set itself

Turn off Cinemotion and Motionflow!
Great TV once I turned off the image processing of CineMotion and MotionFlow. These options add frames to ‘smooth out’ video but it gives shows that awful “soap opera effect”. If you like seeing movies the way they are supposed to look then turn motion junk off! Maybe it’s good for sports or other content but NOT for MOVIES! Also this has NO ANALOG AUDIO OUT. No 3.5mm or RCA audio out. I used an echo dot connected via bluetooth to my external speakers and that worked for me.

Great TV w/ Manufacturering/Shipping Defect
Pros: I have had this TV for a little over a week now and it’s quality is amazing compared to the Samsung TV I have (granted the Samsung was half the price). The picture quality is better and the UI is much faster.Cons: However, it did come with some manufacturing/shipping defects. About 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the screen there are 4 dots about an inch in diameter that are a different color than the rest of the screen (they are not finger prints or smudges). They are uniformly positioned as if the dots were reflected over the centerline of the TV. It is hard to see when things are moving or a dark color is being displayed but it is pretty noticeable when the screen is displaying a lighter color. Amazon did reimburse me $300 for the inconvenience and was very responsive with my issue.

***UPDATED*** Sony X85K is a solid midrange 4K LED TV
Updated review and changed rating from 2 to 4 stars. My replacement Sony X85K 43″ TV unit is perfect. No dead pixels that I could find, the screen is pretty uniform, and picture is excellent. I’m much happier now. I’m using this as a display for my PC, connected via a Yamaha TSR-700 A/V receiver which also drives my desktop speakers. 4K/120Hz SDR definitely works, after forcing the refresh rate in Windows and using 8K/60Hz rated HDMI cables. I have not tested HDR yet, so I wonder if that is where people run into the vertical resolution halving (down-scaling) issue that reportedly makes text look blurry. While this is Sony’s midrange LED TV model, I watched and looked at several reviews online, and concluded that the X85K is a better value than the X90K, which doesn’t have enough LED zones for its full array backlight, resulting in really bad blooming for bright highlights. I think the picture quality of the X85K is excellent, this TV appears to have a VA panel and an excellent native contrast ratio. Off-angle viewing will degrade colors pretty quickly, but I sit centered right in front of the TV, so that’s not an issue for me. Pretty good brightness, I think it peaks around 600 nits. Nice colors and motion handling from the content I’ve viewed thus far.I think I like this enough now to consider purchasing another, larger X85K for the living room.***Original review below***Tons of dead pixels on my particular Sony X85K 43″I was very excited to get my first 4K/120Hz TV to use as a PC desktop display, for both productivity and gaming. But my particular 43″ X85K unit had a lot of dead pixels (completely black), so for that use-case, where one sits pretty close to the display, it’s a no-go. Amazon’s customer service is fantastic as always, so I can return it with minimal hassle, but now I have to ask myself if I want to bother with getting another unit, or just looking at a different brand. I’ve owned many Sony TVs over the years and never had any dead pixels, so this was a rather disappointing experience. Other than that, the TV seemed really good, with a nice picture quality and reasonable contrast/brightness for an LED direct backlit TV. Corners were a bit darker, and there is some blooming on higher brightness settings, but the picture was sharp even at 4K/120Hz. I did not experience the vertical resolution halving issue that others have reported, but I did install the latest firmware update immediately upon powering the TV on.

Nice TV
It starts up fast, and operation is smooth. Set up wizard was easy and well thought out.It handles 4k@120hz just fine, but I found that none of the hdmi cables I had laying around would support that and be stable. I got a zeskit cable and my problems went away.

Lucky purchase with short time to pick a replacement TV
It was four months ago that my brother in another state told me of his replacement troubles with two DOA or defective TV orders respectively. He strongly encouraged me, nevertheless, to buy a new TV and replace my own 12-year-old LG LED-LCD 43″. But the LG had been running 24/7/365 — only occasionally power-cycled or down for maintenance or power outage, and it was still in its original condition — for picture, sound and other aspects. Then, the LG started “doing things” by itself, like the HAL 9000 computer in Kubrick’s “2001”. It’s time had come. This room is small enough that anything bigger than 43 or 50″ would be too big. The wall space doesn’t offer a good opportunity for a wall mount with the best view of the couches. Since my brother had done the research and finally bought a Sony Bravia 65″, I leaned into the choice between the X80K and the X85K, despite other sets of 43″ for only $350 to $400. Then my brother told me that MY Bravia didn’t have the screen technology of HIS Bravia — which was bigger.Meanwhile, we got the X85K all set up here. I didn’t need to adjust the colors to my nit-picky sense of good brightness, contrast, hue or intensity. It was perfect at all the power-saving settings, including “Off”.My brother calls me back a few days later to report that he’d found the specifications for the X85K, and it does, indeed, have the best screen technology.I had already discovered before pulling the checkout string that the Sony has all the streaming apps available at Google Play, except for one: the Spectrum TV app for our Spectrum subscriptions. But we already had a ROKU. When they offer a Spectrum TV app for the Sony, I can disconnect the ROKU at that time.

Outstanding Huge 4K TV Option from Sony w/ Incredible Picture Quality (non-OLED)
Coming from a terrible experience with a Samsung 85″ AU8000 which was supposed to be similar to this Sony model, I can attest to the fact that this Sony 85″ BRAVIA KD85X85K is not only a world above in terms of picture quality (uploaded pictures don’t do it justice) and improved features, but also thankfully lacking the insane backlighting blooming issue that was occurring with the Samsung. When talking about support, the Sony tech support team was amazing, responsive and is even able (when asked) to remote into the TV to check settings and run diagnostics on demand, and actually even helped with a receiver issue and ARC audio issue that had nothing to do with their TV! In contrast, after 8 months of fighting with Samsung given their terrible backlighting blooming issue, and even after having the TV screen replaced and then returned, I am still not fully refunded by them, and would advise everyone who wants a longer lifespan due to the stress of working with their “support” team, to stay away from Samsung TV’s.From a features standpoint, this Sony TV also has double the refresh rate, variable refresh for gaming consoles, and Dolby Vision support. You cannot go wrong with this model if you want a very large 85″ TV and dont want to spend a lot more for the smaller OLED models. Get it, you won’t be disappointed.

Packaged in the Sony box. No visible damage to the box at all. Upon removal of the box from the tv I removed the tape holding the cardboard over the tv screen and noticed 2 large cracks. I was woried about ordering a tv online i dont think i will do it again. Its a little dishartening and i was really looking forward to this tv.

Clear picture, popping colors – though technology is not perfect
This 55 inch X85K replaced my 65 inch X900F from 2019. The 2022 X85k is an upgrade all around.Overall experience:The blacks are more dark, there is no milky haze over the screen. The colors pop and the overall picture seems to be more sharp and detailed. I was able to sell my 65 inch X900F used and got the 85K the very next day for a little more money, so the comparisons are fresh and with the same sources (Apple TV 4K, PS5).The thing about this Sony TV (and other Sony TV)s is that once you see the pictures they produce, it is hard to go back to a different brand, even if it’s Samsung or LG. The colors are natural and just seem to produce realness, especially with live sports and nature documentaries. If you watch MMA, Youtube or Netflix a lot, this TV for this price point will be hard to beat. The skin color on people look real. UFC events with all color variations and shades, even of the same color, are noticeable. Sony TVs provide a different dimension to the viewing experience. It is similar to getting a good pair of headphones, and suddenly hear instruments and details you were missing before. This is the best comparison I can come of with.PS5 pairing / Soundbar pairing:This TV is specifically made with focus to compliment other Sony products. You can find complains of people who have problems with Denon or Bose sound systems or receivers…. Well, it’s not the case with a Sony sound system. I have the expensive Sony HT-Z9F that is connected to ARC (HDMI3 only!) and my PS5 connected to HDMI 4 (you must!) The TV is able to recognize both in seconds, rename them in the input settings and seamlessly function. I actually just unplugged everything from my old TV and re-plugged in the new TV, without resetting anything, and 0 problems. Actually, the Soundbar seems to work a little better (I am guessing this is due to the 2.1 HDMI signal) compared to the 2.0 HDMI from the old TV. This is a HUGE upgrade also for PS5, because you guessed it, it does natively support 120HZ at 4K. You have to make sure about two things for this to happen:1. Your PS5 (or XBOX X) has to be plugged in to HDMI 3 or 4 (HDMI 4 if you have a ARC capable Soundbar like I do).2. You must go the Input setting for your HDMI in your TV settings and make sure you enable Enhanced with VRR. Do not chose the Dolby option, because that will cut your refresh rate to 60 FPS.I recently bought a 1440p 120 Hz gaming monitor for my Xbox X to run 120 fps and this TV performs equally. You can try games like Rocket League, Need For Speed Unbound and the new Modern Warfare 2 for 120 refresh rate. You will definitely love this TV for PS5 gaming, not just because of the seamless installation and 120 refresh rate, but also interconnection. You can use the remote of the TV to browse the PS5 menus and vice versa. Btw. Make sure you enable VRR in your PS5 settings as well.To conclude (Sony) gaming and (Sony) soundbar experience: this is a 10/10. Everything works seamlessly; 2.1 HDMI works as it should; you can control both with the TV remote.Apple devices:This TV has Airplay 2, which means two great things. One, you can seamlessly connect any Apple devices and mirror your content. And two, you can seamlessly connect any Apple devices and mirror your content 🙂 That means websites of all kinds – WITHOUT an Apple TV. If you have a Mac, iPhone, iPod you will love this TV for the connectivity.Remote:Some people don’t agree with removing the numeric buttons, but I dig the new remote a lot. It’s much more simple, has GREAT grip due to the patterns on the back casing & have everything you need. If you don’t have any other sources, this could easily be your only point of contact with TV. There is a Netflix button, Youtube button and Amazon Prime button. It’s also much smaller than the previous generation, which is something Sony had to do to compare to other brands. The numeric and other options ARE available in the Software once you pull up the settings.Negatives:There are 3 negatives with this TV:1. The “123” button provides detail information about the resolution, the source and whether HDR is on or not. It’s the equivalent to the “Display” button from the previous remotes. Unfortunately, it does NOT show you if you are running 60HZ or 120HZ. Considering 120 refresh rate is a key selling point for this TV with the HDMI 2.1 feature, this is a misstep by Sony.2. This is apparently not specific to Sony TVs only, but to any LED panel TVs, but there is a noticeable “shadow” or discoloration in the corner of the TV at all times. You will see this when the screen is bright. Once you see it, it is hard to unsee it. Now, to be fair, if you are watching a movie and there is that black bar, you will never notice it. If the screen is filled with color, it is hard to notice. But it is there…. it will be there with other TVs as well, and from what I understand, depends unit to unit how much or how little is it visible. Keep this in mind.3. Sony support is a hit and miss. The PS5 SW support is absolutely horrible. I promised to never buy a Sony product again, but the picture quality keeps me with them. I don’t have a bad experience with TV support thus far, but keep this in the back of your mind. Here is where AMAZON support can help more to replace the unit or whatnot, so I highly recommend buying it here. Conclusion:This TV, especially on sale, is a superb investment for the next 5-6 years. There are TVs with better reflection coating or better picture, but they also will be $300+ more. For that money, you can buy a console or a soundbar and get a much better experience. I would always recommend a Sony TV over other brands because of the picture. I am not a Sony fan, but I am a fan of good investments. I really thing this is one of them.

More so a gaming TV
I just got this & I haven’t figured everything out. But it has been takingAlot of tuning. My TCL 5 series was much easier to set up. However the main reason I boughtthis was for my Series X. And that’s where the TV is incredible. The colors on my games just pop out. But everything is supported. Your games will play at 120 frames per second but they won’t display in 4k. They play in 1080 p. So I disabled this feature. I’d rather have 4k at 60 frames per second. The sound is great. I have the 50 inch. My bedroom is small so even turning the volume up half way disturbed my roommates. I don’t think a sound bar will be necessary. If you have a new generation console this is the TV you want. I just wish it was easier to operate. Then again I’ve only had it a day. So I’ll get used to it eventually 🙂 update. Understand only the HDMI ports 3 & 4 are 2.1 it took alot of personal tuning to get it just right. Thinking about my TCL and this is comparing night & day. Vioce commands come in handy. It has different features that will only work with a ps5. I don’t have one so I really can’t go into that. But it’s perfect for next Gen. Picture quality is just outstanding. But it was at times frustrating to get it how I wanted. Trial & error. But now it’s exactly what I was looking for. Only real complaint is there’s no direction. The user manual only tells you were to plug it in. How to mount it on a wall. But it doesn’t go beyond that. Update 2 months. It looks very bad if you’re trying to view it from a angle. I have the 50 inch & I’m right in front. So looks good. From the side 🤮 and still I’m messing with settings to get the picture I want. Gaming looks awesome there is a separate setting for that. As far as movies & TV. It’s 50 50. You will spend alot of the time getting that picture you want. As far as settings go & making it look the way you want? C- however that’s only for tv. Games however this is what is was made for. Everything you want from a next gen console is supported. Just make sure you use hdmi 3 & 4 and enhance. Don’t use hdmi 1 & 2 for gaming. They don’t support hdmi 2.1. And it doesn’t look good from viewing from the side. Game or TV wise. It’s a great TV for your games. I’m using a Xbox series X. It supports everything. Except Dolby Vision. That is not a big deal. It makes up for it in others areas. The sound? Still sounds good. Without headphones. It’s horrible to tune it. Gaming is a breeze. It’s already set for that. Otherwise you might spend awhile getting everything else to look right.

Very good picture for the price range.
As the title infers, this set has a very bright picture. It is so bright that I had to choose the standard mode vs. the vivid mode for the picture. The brightness of the picture is fairly universal from center to edge with no visually discernible loss. Viewing angle is somewhat limited for best picture quality. The sound is just ok. The item comes well-packaged with emphasis on protecting the screen much better than previous TV sets I have purchased. Set up was rather easy. I would caution purchasers that the set arrives with a piece of cardboard taped over the LCD screen. I cut the tape holding the cardboard but subsequently learned that the remaining portion of the tape used to affix the screen-protecting cardboard came back to bite me. Initially, I noticed that the set would not power on with the remote. There’s a power button located on the bottom edge, so I used that to power on. I was able to complete the entire setup with the manufacturer’s remote but when I tried to pair our cable remote to the set, it would not pair. The manufacturer’s remote and the DVR remote performed every function but powering the set on and off. Ultimately, we discovered that the previously mentioned tape used to hold the screen-protecting cardboard, combined with the protective plastic on the lower bezel from the manufacturer, was interfering with the on/off signal to the set. Unless you know it is there, you may not notice the plastic covering on the bezel at the bottom. And, unless you physically remove the tape that holds the protective cardboard for the screen vs. cutting it, you may experience a similar issue. Once we removed the tape and the protective plastic from the bottom bezel, we were able to pair the DVR remote and both remotes now function as advertised. I think it would be beneficial if Sony warned consumers about this. I was ready to send the set back. I’m glad we were able to resolve the issue and thus far, I am pleased with the purchase. I hope it is durable and can provide many years of viewing pleasure. Just as a point of caution, we replaced an exact same size set with this one, however; the previous set had a center pedestal to facilitate installation on the existing TV stand we owned. The Bravia TV uses legs on either side of the set to facilitate that same purpose. Purchasers should note the width of the supporting legs. We learned that they were 1/2″ wider than our existing stand and had to purchase a stand to accommodate the new set. The Sony Bravia includes hardware for wall mounting but you would have to purchase the wall mount separately. Good luck.

Superb TV, well worth the thousand bucks.
Picture quality is excellent, very cool and handy and USEFUL voice remote. Just don’t drop it— my voice feature stopped working after I dropped mine so I had to buy an aftermarket remote.Overall it’s the perfect size if you’re sitting 6 feet away. Sony Bravia is the absolute gold standard of TVs. I’ve had C Samsung (also great and still going strong, but overall simpler and just not as good in terms of picture quality), LG (died on me suddenly after 1 year), Vizio (audio died on me after a year), Panasonic (their plasma TVs were excellent but their LED one died on us completely in less than 3 years), and some other brands— Sony is king.Yes, it’s expensive, more so than other brands, but the old adage is true, you get what you pay for.

Pretty good but small errors here and there
I bought this as my first ever 4K TV. Coming from a decade old LG 1080p TV has been nice. The features are great, when they work correctly. CineMotion and Motionflow work intermittently, there’s jarring stutters that are noticeable when watching movies and TV shows. My girlfriend doesn’t notice all the time but I do and it does bother me sometimes. With a bunch of picture adjustments and removing bloatware I got to a point where it happens rarely so I won’t be returning the TV like I thought I would.Overall I’d give it 4/5 stars just because it does have nice features, great picture quality, and fantastic colors but had some slight quality issues.

As close to OLED as you can get
My 13 year old LG finally gave up and I debated long over a Sony Bravia vs another LG Qned series ..it was a tough choice but decided on the Sony ..while this TV is not an OLED it’s not OLED price but you will not be disappointed .. the colors palette is so extensive and vivid .. 120 hz is flawless ..received it with in 2 days with prime .. it was packed like FORT KNOX you could have dropped it of the roof and I don’t think it would have been damaged ..Set up was extremely easy using GOOGLE HOME ..I’m a big fan of the amazon fire devices but this google OPERATING system works just as well and has all the apps I use with my fire stick and you don’t need another remoteI’ve owned other Sony TV AND an again WOWED !by the picture qualityLastly the TV is a little thicker than some of the other but you basically have a built in sound bar .. you have a rich sound and what appears to be 2 small woofers on the bottom of the TV ..Had my last Sony for almost 15 years so I hope this one last nearly as long

Sony blamed me for a manufacturing defect
I’m 44 and this is my first review. It took an extraordinarily bad experience for me to finally write one, unfortunately.I have installed over 50 TVs in my lifetime, so I am very well aware of precautions to be taken. It’s a hobby and skill I offer to friends and family. In this case, it was business as usual. Once mounted, I removed the cardboard screen shield and turned this TV on to see a slight imperfection along the border, inside of the screen, causing a dull rippled shadow effect. Once you notice it, you can’t “unnotice” it. There was no sign of impact on the screen, the cardboard shield, nor the delivery box. After multiple calls and hours spent trying to explain this to Sony, their “engineers” decided that I had caused the problem. (I have an engineering degree, for what it’s worth, and based on the lack of evidence and explanation I was given for this determination, I have little respect for the expertise of these “engineers”.) I asked to speak to the engineer who made this determination and was denied. I asked to speak to a superior of the on-call representative who delivered this news and was denied. I asked to speak to Sony’s legal department about their policies regarding determinations of fault and was denied. This legal question did ultimately earn me a scheduled call back from a “corporate superior”. Days went by and I heard nothing. In the meantime I worked with Amazon to address the situation and they were great. Eventually, the “corporate superior” called, but to be honest, I was exhausted by the time and effort this took, so I did not answer or return their call.I have no issue with the Sony product. Defects happen. I get it. But to be blamed without explanation for something I did not cause? That I have a serious problem with. The process of removing, shipping, and now mounting a new TV is arduous and time consuming. It is worthy of compensation that will likely never come.

Fantastic TV for use in a bedroom and with a PS5.
Bought this for use with a PS5 and for movie watching in the bedroom. The picture quality is fantastic (with a few adjustments – like turning motion smoothing off).It automatically detected my PS5 and the settings were amazing right out of the box. It’s a great size, easy to set up, and comes with Google TV (which has over 100+ free channels).Don’t hesitate. Buy!

Sony X85K 50 inch One Month Review
I decided to retire my 50 inch Samsung 1080p Plasma TV from 2010. This is my first Sony and Smart 4k TV, and I’m happy with the purchase. It’s not perfect but much better than old technology. The user interface is simple to operate. I love the Google TV. The picture quality is good; however, it’s not the same viewing pleasure you will get with OLED or Mini-LED. I consider this a budget Sony TV, which is why I bought it. The legs are under 27″ apart and this fits on my stand. Also, I’m making monthly payments, which allowed to me to buy it. I don’t like the small remote, I constantly hit the wrong button because it’s not backlit. Side-angle viewing makes it look washed out. You must be directly in front of it. You will need to change the picture settings for EACH input. I set the picture to Warm and turned OFF Motionflow and CineMotion to get rid of the soap opera effect. I also turned OFF noise reduction. On the plus side, there is no blooming for those of us who use Closed Captioning. It took me about a week to get familiar with this Smart TV and remote. I am enjoying it, but if you can afford OLED or Mini-LED, you must choose the richer viewing experience!

Solid midline TV
First, and importantly, it’s not awful. The sound is OK, the interface is OK, and the picture is OK. But none of these are terrific. Our primary use for this television is watching football, and this may be the use where picture quality is particularly easy to identify. The picture is showing you shots that are full face all the way up to 100 yards wide, there is a lot of motion, and you want to see a lot of detail. This television is adequate for the job but you will not imagine that it’s the best you have seen. The interface is also acceptable, but not great. When you first turn on the TV you’re going to be greeted by a screen with lots of apparent options none of which you can immediately choose and use, and in several seconds the screen will change. You will probably be able to eventually find whatever it is you want, but it might not be quick. The sound fits into the same category of adequate. Not better, not worse, just adequate. You will want to have a sound bar, but when you do that you will probably want to be sure and turn off the television sound because there will be this tiny bit of delay or time difference between the sound from the television itself and the sound from the sound bar. At worst, it’s disconcerting, and st best it is slightly annoying. If you get this television on a really good sale, I think you will be satisfied. If you pay a couple thousand or more for it, I think you will hate it, or at least harbor some resentment.

Nice smart TV
Sony Bravia picture is the best. Great TV. Bought my first Sony back in 2006. There’s a reason I still use my first Bravia. Great TV. Couple hundred bucks more but I have never had to take any of my Sony Bravia TV’s to the dump for recycling. Sorry I can’t say that about other brands I took a chance on. Bought this one and one level up the 90 version in 55 inch for a beach house and gaming. Very happy with both. Happy to spend a little more. Only negative is Sony. They restrict apps like Comcast Xfjnity Stream so all you do is buy a 4K Fire stick and your golden. Sony needs to grow up.

Great TV, WiFi Setup a Huge Challenge
The TV itself works great, good picture, great color, and good sound. The WiFi setup process was anything but simple or straight forward. I “suspect” the root of the problem was the time delay between the TV issuing the password to be typed into our Amazon account, which required booting our computer, getting into Amazon.com, and then entering the password. Amazon claimed we were good to go, but the TV refused to acknowledge the account link, despite what Amazon.com stated on-line. And the TV despite what the on-screen prompt stated refused to issue a new password. Once the wireless Amazon.com connection was worked out the TV works great. Our Doberman loves the YoouTube music videos for dogs.

Picture is not great
I am coming from a Samsung QLED 65″ TV that is five years old. This Sony x85K TV’s picture is not even close to the five year old Samsung. The backs are dull and hazy and the sharpness of the picture is subpar. I think I was spoiled with the Samsung. To my eye, this TV picture just looks pretty standard. Does not seem to be true 4K or 120HZ. I am returing this product and most likely getting a newer Samsung or LG OLED.In my opinion, this is lower teir large TV that is affordabley priced. If you are looking for a high end TV with great picture and have a higher budget, I would stay away from this one.Rtings.com ratings:- SONY x85K – 7.7/10- Samsung QN85C was 8.1/10- Samsung S90C OLED 8.9/10- OLED65C3PUA 8.9/10- LG OLED C3 – 8.9/10

Beware, see comments below!
Not to savy on TV’s but I’ve a few in my life time, this one sucks only because it’s GOOGLE priority, which make it a real pain to operate. It takes several steps to get to the operation of the TV to change channels. Knowing this in advanced I would not purchased this TV.

EXCELLENT
This TV is magnificent. I upgraded to this from an older Vizio and WOW what a difference! Picture is crisp and the sound is surprisingly good without the sound bar. I LOVE the remote control. It is slim with a great grip and feels good in your hand. I only use the apps on this TV- I don’t have it hooked up to cable and I don’t game on it, so I can’t rate fairly for that, but watching NetFlix or Peacock or whatever app you have, you won’t be disappointed! For the price it just can’t be beat.

Loving everything about it except that it’s lowest brightness setting is still way too bright. It’s about 3x brighter than the lowest setting of the TV it is replacing. (An 11 year old 32″ LG)

Great features and picture quality
The media could not be loaded.
We purchased this TV during thanksgiving holidays and it is definitely a huge step up from our old 42” TV from 2016! Picture quality is great, in built sound system is good. The installation and setup took around 30 mins and the instructions are easy to follow. This is a big TV! And you will notice everything looks bigger and better 😉 makes our media console look small.
