    GREAT TELEVISION

Amazing, I mean amazing picture quality. Geeze. This TV is everything and so much more than I expected. I put on a YouTube 4K video that showcase’s this TV’s power and am completely blown away by the colors, the brilliance, clarity, the blacks are so true, the whites amazing. This Hisense television is alive. So bright 🌞 You will not be disappointed.

    Very Good TV

I like the TV despite the critics. Picture and sound quality is good. Google TV makes the Hisense TV better. The remote mimic the firestick making easy to navigate with one remote. The TV has alot of features at a very good price.

    Gorgeous picture – great value

My wife and I bought a Hisense U6 65″ TV from Amazon two years ago and really enjoy it so I bought this one to go into a loft area (“man cave”) where I can watch something that I want to watch and my wife can watch what she wants to watch. Both TVs are 120Hz. I suggest turning off all the “features” that affect the picture and putting it in filmmaker mode. Gorgeous picture. This TV is a bargain.

    excellent TV 55 inch

Comparable to TVs costing hundreds more. Easy to tweak settings and picture quality to one’s liking although out of the box was good to begin with. I am not a TV reviewer or expert(but have been watching TV for 50 years) and I do not notice any banding , macroblocking , rainbow effect or shimmer. To the extent these may exist they are so rare and minimal it does not affect the viewing experience although again I do not notice any. It has no problems with bright light from my glass slider even on the sunniest days. I did my research on line and in stores and this TV is the best one for any in or near this price point. Modern remotes do not have a number dial pad as this one which I do not care for. I do not use a blueray player so I can not address stuttering for blueray movies. This TV competes very well with any TVs under $1;000.00. and even some over that price. Update: have noticed macro blocking once or twice a day, small blurry section , lasts less than a second. Try as I might I still can not see banding even looking at sunset type scenes although these rarely appear in vast majority of TV watching. As most professional reviewers state there is no noticeable difference between 10 bit and 8bit frc+ .

    4/5 because…

I give it a four out of five becausePros: beautiful picture, Dolby vision is phenomenal, great sound, and great lighting during the day which has very little blooming. Watching movies are very high quality and as if you’re watching it in theaters again.Cons: notice during commercials it “stutters” and the color will change mid commercial (maybe it’s adjusting due to the colors of the commercial?), then it’ll end the commercial abruptly and the screen goes dark to slowly transition to the next oneI’ve only had it for about a month but I did a thorough research before purchasing a TV and this was on the top of the list. There’s no such thing as a perfect TV but I believe I made a wise purchase with this one, and I am pleased despite some flaws.

    I’m liking it so far

it can also function as a smart speaker, so you can say “hey google turn up the volume.” a lot of the other voice commands interrupt the thing you’re watching though, which you then have to fish out the remote control to close the overlay and press play again >____< 2 people found this helpful

    Poor OS & Movement Performance

For reference, The LG OLED-C2 is the only OLED I have a few hundred hours of watching experience. I have scores of hours watching a Samsung Q90.I’ve had the TV for 3 months now. There are two main issues with this TV. The OS is sluggish. I’ve had issues with Amazon, Netflix, HBO & Apple TV. Freezing during rewinding or fast forwarding. Playing audio but stuck on the selection screen. Selecting continue where I left off from the Home Screen and starting over. If you let the screen saver come up and then try to quickly go back into one of the apps where you left off, it is a hit and miss if it will work. When it comes to streaming and there is lots of movement on the screen, there is a haloing effect around the object moving. The picture is not clear as the object moves across the screen. This is almost eliminated when playing blurays but I did catch glimpses of it happening sometimes.Other than those things, I really have no complaints. Colors and brightness are great. Dark blacks and plenty of detail. The built in subwoofer is nothing to be about vs a stand alone unit but better than other built in TV systems.

    Better than Samsung

The media could not be loaded.

I traded my 2021 Samsung in for this TV. After two weeks of research, I finally decided on the 65” ULED 4K 2023 Hisense. What a difference with all pictures, but definitely with sports!!!! The picture is amazing. It’s running between 120-144 which makes sports so much clearer. It claims to have 1,500 peak brightness, but it really runs closer to 2,000! The colors are vibrant, and I am just loving it. I’m so happy I saved the extra $500-$700 going with Hisense this time versus Samsung. Plus… THE REMOTE IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN SAMSUNG! I hated the Samsung remote. Save some time and definitely money and choose this TV.

The best TV I have ever owned

I was looking to purchase the 2021 model Hisense 65U8G TV and have been checking Amazon and other sites regularly to see if it was on sale. Lucky for me, I happened to notice the 2022 model 65U8H was available on Amazon at the same price as last year’s model. Plus, Hisense has a 100-day $100 cash back satisfaction promotion that made this set a no-brainer. I snatched it up first opportunity and am glad I did, as it has largely been in short supply and unavailable for most of the past month I have had it.The TV arrived two weeks after ordering and I purchased it to replace a 13-yr old 50″ 720p plasma TV. What a world of difference! Starting with the box, this thing is huge. I had to get help to unbox it and strongly recommend you not try doing so alone. It came well-packaged and without damage. The 65U8H has two feet which are simple to install. The power cord is located on the right rear of the set and all the other connections are located on the left rear. There is a subwoofer at the center rear of the TV and the audio is actually much better than most TVs offer. I have not needed a soundbar so far.The 4K picture is on another level. I read numerous YouTube reviews of the 65U8H vs multiple competitors, and the picture is on par with sets costing 2-3x as much. It uses the Google TV operating system, which is highly responsive. I have not used it for gaming so cannot comment on that. The picture is very bright and I have noticed no ghosting or motion problems watching sports. Blacks are beautiful. The only minor gripe is the viewing angle is relatively narrow, so you should set the TV up so you can watch it head-on or close to. It offers extensive options to calibrate the picture to your liking.I have never owned a Hisense so cannot attest to its durability and longevity, but Hisense does offer a two-year warranty on the set. I hope to get many satisfying years of viewing.I award the Hisense 65U8H 5 stars and recommend it highly without reservation. I will definitely be claiming my 100-day satisfaction award!

Great for XBOX Series X Gaming

Things I like-price-HDR, Dolby Vision, Bright display, 4k 120- Nextgen/ATSC 3 over the air tuner(Note XBox outputs 10 bit HDR at 4k 120Hz or 12 bit Dolby Vision at 4k 60Hz. Not sure which is better)- some settings hard to calibrate, as get different settings to define for 1080p, 4k, 4k hdr, 4k dolby vision per input mode. But with it in the end.Things I don’t like- only 2 4k 120Hz outputs, and one is used up by eArc- TV only supports HDMI stereo out for audio passthru to external receiver , despite whateverTV audio setting is selected(ie doesn’t do any multichannel decoding – a lot of cheap TVs have this issue where they simply do not want to pay for the software codecs.I am going to resolve these 2 dislikes by purchasing a HDMI 4k 120 splitter with audio extractor (to optical) for like $80Ie just bypass the TV audio from external devices and use Optical instead (use HDMI audio for TV and streaming, and use Optical from splitter for external devices)Overall still good value

    Great Super value

Love the picture, best value for $1500 compared to the competitors 6 months and still beautiful picture great sound don’t even need a soundbar.. 10 months in.. After playing with the settings finally resolved to just use the auto and turbo ,settings, , period. In this setting the TV is constantly automatically fine-tuning it self for perfect picture best way to go forget the settings Make sure you compare with Samsung and LG this, TV is $1000 cheaper and just as good or better. We’ll see on the build quality I’ll let you know on that down-the-line

    Best TV for the value

I wanted a 65 inch tv and this one won my purchase from the reviews I read. The picture quality is amazing. The sound is incredibly good for integrated speakers. I decided to go minimalist and not even use my soundbar because it’s genuinely not needed.Google TV is… ok. The wifi adapter seems to drop the signal for about 15-30 seconds shortly after the TV is turned on. I’ve decided to plug in my 4k Roku. It’s much faster and I personally prefer that operating system.

    This TV is a beast!

This is the best bang for the buck, super bright, HDR standards/options you could ever want. The TV has two feet which and are simple enough to install. The power cord is located on the right side rear of the TV and all the other connections are located on the left side rear. Subwoofer at the center rear of the TV and the audio sounds pretty good. If you don’t have a soundbar or A/V setup you wont be upset. The 4K picture is something else on this TV. I have read many YouTube reviews of the 55U8H vs multiple competitors, and the picture is on par with TV’s costing 2-3x as much. Uses Google TV as it’s operating system, which is probably my favorite of all TV OS’s. Gaming on this is great with things like (2) HDMI 2.1 ports, 120HZ, ALLM, VRR, and Freesync Premium. It has dedicated gaming features like LG that they call “Game Zone” that can display FPS/HZ, VRR on/off, ALLM on/off, etc. The picture is extremely bright and I haven’t noticed any ghosting or motion problems while watching sports. Dolby Vision/HDR10 on this TV looks amazing with great contrast thanks to its max 1500-nits. Blacks are actually black and look great. The viewing angle is some what narrow, so set the TV up so you can watch it head-on or close to head-on. Has many options to calibrate the picture to your liking. The 55U8H is the best purchase I have made in along time, especially at the sale price ($649) it was at. It has a just as good or possibly better picture than many other TV’s at 2-3x its price.

    Pretty good, but not perfect.

Awesome TV and it is packaged well. I don’t know if it’s a hardware or software issue, but there are some occasional dropped frames or glitches. These are very minor and have only happened to me a couple of times, not enough to be annoying but enough to be noticeable. My biggest gripe is getting connected to my Xbox Series X was a painful and confusing process. You can’t get 4K @ 120 Hz if you plug into the main HDMI 1 port (I think HDMI 2 or 3 gets you 4K @ 120 Hz) and you have to delve into the settings to enable 4K 120 Hz. It took me 30-45 min and multiple YouTube tutorials to set up. However, once that’s done you shouldn’t have to do it again.

    AMAZING TV!!!

Hello Everyone,Pros:Let me just start by saying This TV is Amazing and I think you should try it if you are in the market for a New TV and dont want to spend too much money!!! This TV simply smokes many of the LG, Samsung, or Sony tvs that are in the similar price range or even that are a little bit more expensive. Is it as good as an OLED? No, but it is pretty close! I was gonna buy an OLED but i was worried for Burn-in. I am so glad I bought Hisense U8H and saved a ton of money! I never bought a Hisense tv before this so this is my first Hisense TV. I was using a Samsung KS8000 before for my Game Room. I bought this Hisense U8H 4 months ago especially for Gaming and some Movie Watching. I currently have a 2016 Samsung KS8000 (Edge-Lit) and also a 2017 Sony X900F (Full-Array) paid double for both of these tvs and honestly U8H beats both of them as far as picture quality goes. Blacks are very deep even in the dark room. Believe me when I say this: This TV gets ridiculously BRIGHT!!! I didn’t notice a whole lot of blooming. Only noticed it on some occasions but in comparison to my other TVs this U8H is sooooo much better!!! Gaming on it is super amazing, colors are Rich & Vibrant! I do not have the current consoles so I can’t say anything about 120hz but upon reading different posts on reddit and after the latest firmware update it works perfectly fine. Sound Quality is pretty good for a TV (it has a 20W Subwoofer in the back). Software wise it is pretty good much faster/smoother than my other tvs. Motion is pretty good but I keep the motion settings off for my movies. Upscaling is good but I think Samsung and Sony upscale the older content much better. Remember: You have to turn “Enhanced Mode” to on for 120hz to work (there is plenty of information you can find on the internet and many YouTube videos about it)Cons:It does have color banding issue (which is still not fixed with a latest Firmware) that I’ve noticed in some games and movies but personally it doesn’t bother me so if you are sensitive to that then keep this in mind before buying.Annoying 4 led lights that come on after you turn the mic button to off ( I think you can also turn it off in the software, but I’ve gotten used to it so doesn’t bother me anymore.Final thoughts:I think for me these are the only cons and overall this is a very good TV. Would I recommend to buy this TV? Absolutely YES!!! Try it and if you don’t like it you can always return it. Also, If you get a bad unit don’t worry just replace it! This getting a bad unit happens with every manufacturer (maybe I am not sure upon reading some reviews it happens more with Hisense I don’t know, but I got lucky the first time) it happened to me in the past with Samsung & Sony as well.Good Luck! 👍

    Great panel, good SmartTV SoC

If you’re here, you’ve probably already read the rtings and you know how good the panel in the U8H is (and if you haven’t, google it, post-haste!), and you’ve probably also been the the thread about the U8H on avsForum. I can’t begin to replicate the kinds of detailed tests that rtings does, but I will say that this TV looks great in person — if you have a bright environment or lots of glare, this thing can get eye-searingly bright. The setup process was not entirely smooth — I had to cancel the app-based installation and do it on-screen — but since I’ll only do this once over the decade I’ll have this TV I don’t really see it as a big deal. The on-screen setup proceeded without a hitch and everything worked flawlessly. The pictures attached to this review are screenshots of various bits of system information and benchmark results that I gathered while assessing the built-in smart TV functions (more details on that below). One place where rtings is lacking in their reviews is their evaluation of smart TV features … and indeed, the folks on AVSForum were looking for more information on that as well. I will endeavor to provide it. Here are some specs that I gleaned from AIDA 64:- The motherboard is listed as an “MT9900”, but the SoC is listed as an MT5895, listed as a 4-core Cortex-A73 clocked at 1.8Ghz. I ran geekbench and gfxbench on it, and the CPU performance is slightly better than my Sony X91J (which has an MT5895), but the GPU performance is ~25% worse. This may just be due to implementation, or it may be due to the fact that this TV is running Android 11 while the Sony is still on Android 10.- This TV has 6GB storage and 2GB RAM. I’m happy to see more than the 4GB I’ve seen on some other sets, it gives a bit more breathing room for apps. Another gig of RAM would have been nice for future proofing, but it does well with current apps with the RAM that it has.- In Geekbench 4, this TV scores around 1065 (single-core) and 2925 (multi-core), and in Geekbench 5 it scores around 220 (single-core) and 635 (multi-core). For reference, the Sony X91J Geekbench 4 scores are around 1075 (single-core) and 2763 (multi-core) — it seems very likely to me that this TV is running the same MT5895 as the Sony.- Running the GFXBench T-Rex Offscreen test, this TV was able to render 1920 frames (~33FPS). For comparison, the X91J renders 2446 fraames (44FPS). Both TVs report having a Mali G52 GPU, so either HiSense has a software issue, or the hardware is different in some way (clocked lower, slower memory, etc.)To put this into context, it’s a good deal slower than the current generation Fire HD 10 tablet, a fair bit faster than the Retroid Pocket 3 gaming handheld, and faster than pretty much all stand-alone Google TV Boxes except for the nVidia shield. If you would like to game on your TV, you should easily be able to emulate everything through SNES, and also run some of the easier-to-emulate N64, Dreamcast, and PSP games. It should also run those Android games that support Android TV reasonably well.Subjectively, the interface animations are smooth and it has no trouble running the current TV apps. The Wifi is quite fast, and even when connected to my 802.11AC access point, it was achieving well over 100mbps. I was able to pair a bluetooth mouse and get a cursor, which is a feat that not all Google TVs can achieve (my Sony, for instance, will only work with a mouse that has a dongle). After installing a web browser, pages loaded quickly and rendered correctly. I feel no need to connect my usual Media Center PC to this set, as the built-in Google TV processor is fully sufficient. All in all, I’m very happy!EDIT: A few notes that I forgot in my initial review- I haven’t tried it yet, but since this runs the same SoC as my Sony (which I do use for cloud gaming), it should run GeForce Now just fine- You should also be able to side-load the xBox GamePass app and use the cloud portion of that subscription. The difficulty level there is a bit higher, because you will not be able to install it via the play store (it doesn’t officially support ANY Android TV yet, but the smartphone app works if you install it)- Since this uses the MT5895 chipset, it is likely that if you try to drive it at 4k120Hz, it will halve the vertical resolution. There have been reports of this, and Hisense is said to be working on a fix. In my use case (gaming from ~12ft away), it’s not noticeable. If you’re using it for a PC monitor, it may be bothersome.

Overall an amazing TV for the price and ideal for gaming, but has a few shortcomings

I’ve had this tv a day, and so far am blown away by the picture quality. It has great brightness and blacks are amazing. I am reviewing this in the context of a sub $700 TV as 5 stars because it is not perfect. If it was $1000, it would be a 4 star tv. After having a day, some things that were a bit frustrating. Some I could work around and others I just have to live with.- Default HDMI is not enhanced and causes issues and has to be picked in menu- Only 2 HDMI are 2.1 120Hz and one of those is ARC so for me sound bar gets one only leaving one for PS5, but cannot hookup PC to other due to sound bar- Smooth motion on by default and needed to adjust as movies and tv shows getting soap opera effect (if that bothers you)- Although HDMI CEC works to power on items and off and control with remote (Apple TV, PS5, etc.), it doesn’t auto switch which is frustrating; like PS5 will go on, but not play back through ARC unless I switch sound bar to ARC or the Apple TV won’t come up unless I switch the input. My previous TCL that died always worked going between sources flawlessly, and may just be something I have to figure out- Navigating Settings and Menus could be easier; there is a setting button on remote and settings through a menu from remote and not all setting are in one place and having 2-3 deep to get to some often used functions on picture settings is a painPS5 gaming is NIGHT AND DAY compared to the TCL. I had a TCL 4 Series with HDR, but it was really criminal to call it HDR. Now I get why HDR is so touted. I feel like my PS5 went to a PS6. I can’t describe the difference, but it is so much better. This TV supports 120Hz (tested with Doom Eternal). You can set inputs on TV to specific settings and Game Mode and other Gaming choices are all there. Supports variable refresh rate also. So far playing very will with PS5. I highly recommend this set for gamers.I stream almost all my movies, and 4K UHD digital with Dolby Vision are amazing. I paused a couple of movies, like Tom Hanks leaving hanger in Maverick where he goes from dark and shadows to outside, and I did see a bit of pixilation which could be result of streaming as much as TV, but it was not as bad TCL. Overall though, blacks are amazing and near OLED quality with some, but much less blooming that I have seen on any other non-OLED tv.Other thoughts. . .this TV is heavy. It easily weighs twice as much as the TCL it replaced. I have no comments on sound as I use a soundbar, Airpods and headphones when watching TV or gaming. Also, I have no use for smart tv functions, google, etc. as I use Apple TV for my front end to everything and do live tv through Hulu on there.

Hisense GoogleTV U8 picture is great! But..

Not happy that setup service was not available. Amazon only delivered it to my room and left it to me (a 67yo disabled man) to unbox and set up. The set weighs almost twice as much as the defective TCL it replaces. Setup wasn’t too bad, but the Google OS is notably slower than the TCL. Also the OS is not as detailed or in depth as the TCL. Sound has been good. But I just tried to plug in my optical (TOS) headphones and found the standard connector does NOT fit! It fit the TCL and my previous Samsung just fine. I don’t think HiSense is paying attention. This is very maddening, since I’m in an apartment and can’t have the sound up much as I’d like. This U8 series picture and sound are vastly better than mu old Samsung, but had the TCL kept working after 2 weeks..I’d be happier. The only issue I had with the TCL is that the picture started crapping out and became unviewable. I’m still waiting on my refund for that. Not sure what to do about the headphone connection. It’s just too difficult and stressful to go through returning it to amazon.

Disappointing “8-Bit plus FRC” panel & weak “Processing” – Poor “Stuttering” & Viewing Angles

The Hisense U8H has many problems that caused me to return the product. I bought the U8H because of reviews saying it is “Bright” and the Mini-LED VA panel has “Blacks” that are very dark. Those things were true; however, the U8H suffers from many other problems – and has all along. These problems have never been solved, and never will be. Some of them cannot be solved – such as the inferior technology used for the panel that is based on “8-Bit plus FRC” technology rather than the “True 10-Bit” technology used by Samsung, LG, and Sony. This “Plus FRC” technology used by Hisense and TCL creates a “Rainbow Effect” that some people (including me) see, and it is very disturbing. It reminds me very much of the days of DLP TV sets where there was a similar type of “Rainbow Effect” that some people (including me) could see.In the early reviews of the U8H on reliable places such as RTings, it said the U8H had glitches and problems with things such as Dolby Vision and Netflix, and also the gaming suffering from a problem where the vertical resolution was cut in half when gaming at 120hz. RTings said Hisense was aware of those problems and planned to eventually fix them with firmware updates. Most of those particular problems were solved, although other problems were sometimes created. For example, the one firmware update created another glitch in one of the HDMI inputs.People wondered from the start if Hisense was going to attempt to fix some of the other glitches that reviews talked about. Hisense never promised to fix those particular glitches the way they did the glitches they claimed they were aware of dealing with Dolby Vision and Netflix. For example, the RTings review points out that the U8H has TERRIBLE problems with “Stuttering” while watching Blu-ray movies running at 24 frames per second. I can tell you this is definitely 100% true. No form of firmware update has fixed this yet as of January 2023, so it is obvious no form of firmware update ever will fix this problem. You can easily see an example of this “Stuttering” problem if you go to a local store where all the TV sets are on display. I eventually saw the Hisense U8H at Best Buy sitting next to the Sony X90K and the X95K, and the Samsung Q90B, and the TCL Class 6, and several TV sets from LG. Each of them were playing the same stream of movies. The Samsung and Sony TV sets did not display “Stuttering,” but the Hisense U8H did have very noticeable “Stuttering.” The LG TV sets actually had the worst “Stuttering” of all. This was particularly noticeable in the new Doctor Strange movie that was on display. The Sony TV sets had virtually no noticeable “Stuttering.” But the Hisense U8H showed “Stuttering” in multiple spots – even in scenes as minor as showing Doctor Strange simply rotating his head. The other problem the RTings review talked about was “Shimmering.” This was obvious on the U8H, but not on the other TV sets – exactly as the RTings and Digital Trends reviews said. One of the other problems with the U8H that people wondered about all along was if the weakness in “Processing” would ever be fixed with firmware updates. Unfortunately, these problems have never been corrected, and obviously never will. For example, the “Digital Noise” option can be selected, but it never does anything visible to eliminate digital noise. The U8H also suffers from problems with “Posterization” and “Macroblocking” from the various Gradients. These problems are caused by the TERRIBLY INFERIOR technology that Hisense uses in the UH8 and TCL uses in the Class 6 for their panels, which is called “8-Bit plus FRC” rather than using “True 10-Bit” technology for the panel. The Hisense U8H and TCL Class 6 TV sets only have access to a small fraction of the colors available in “True 10-Bit” TV panels. But what is worse is the U8H has such weak “Processing” power that the “8-Bit plus FRC” panel is not capable of processing correctly and ends up with “Gradient” errors and “Posterization” errors and “Macroblocking” errors.A good example of what I’m referring to was seen at Best Buy when all those TV sets were next to each other and Gran Turismo was shown on display on all the TV sets. A person who had never seen that game and didn’t know what the game was “supposed” to look like would never think anything was wrong. But when you see the game next to the other TV sets, you realize how the game is “supposed” to look and you realize why the U8H from Hisense has “Gradient” problems with Posterization. The Samsung Q90B and Sony X90K and X95K show colors in Gran Turismo that look “smooth” and “gradually” go from a dark color to a light color so that it looks like it is a 100% perfect transition from “dark” to “light.” But with the Hisense U8H, you don’t see a “smooth” type of “gradual transition.” Instead, with the U8H, you see the colors shift from a white, to suddenly being a darker white, to suddenly being a grey, to suddenly being a dark grey, to suddenly being a light black, to suddenly being a black. It is not “smooth” and not “gradual” at all with the transition. The reason for this is because of the “8-Bit plus FRC” panel that is used, which is inferior technology. The “Viewing Angles” of the U8H are also TERRIBLE. As the RTings and Digital Trends reviews say, the moment you start to get off center so that you are not looking directly at the TV, you start to see the shades and tints of the colors change in ways that are not accurate. In fairness, this also happens with the Sony X90K and even the far more expensive Sony X95K. This did not happen as much with the Samsung Q90B, though. But, it was so bad that I decided I would rather have an IPS panel with Mini-LED to improve the “Blacks” rather than having a VA panel with such terrible viewing angles. The LG Class 83 sold at Best Buy (which is just a renamed version of the 2021 Class 90) actually does not do a particularly good job with the viewing angles considering it is an IPS. But, the LG Class 85 2022 model does do a good job with having high-quality blacks and excellent viewing angles due to the fact that it is an IPS panel and has Mini-LED for lighting. My hopes were very high for the Hisense U8H. I have talked with other people who bought the U8H and returned it. Everyone has said, “I would have gladly paid a couple hundred more dollars if Hisense would have just used a ‘True 10-Bit’ panel, used some technology to improve the viewing angles of the VA panel, and used some technology to improve the “Processing” so it did not experience problems with ‘Stuttering’ and ‘Shimmering.'”I hope Hisense can fix those problems for 2023. The prices for those Sony, Samsung, and LG TV sets are out of my range, so I didn’t buy anything for 2022. I guess I will just have to wait until 2023 to see what is available and hope the prices aren’t too high for me. This will be my third year without a decent-sized TV set, because my 70″ Sony broke two years ago. I want to wait to get a good one, because I hope it lasts a long time. Best Buy charges WAYYYY TOO MUCH for their insurance, so I won’t buy from Best Buy. I want a TV of at least 70″, but I’m not willing to pay over $1,500. These TV sets simply don’t last as long as they should anymore. That 70″ Sony one lasted only four years. It’s a good thing I had insurance on it.The reviews were correct that the TV gets “Very Bright” and has “Blacks” that are “Very Black.” But there is a HUGE PROBLEM. If you are watching a Blu-ray at 24 frames per second, it DOES NOT MATTER HOW BRIGHT OR BLACK something is, BECAUSE IT WILL be “STUTTERING”!!!Hisense needs to understand that you cannot build a skyscraper with 100 floors without building a solid foundation first! Hisense needs to make sure their #1 priority is to build a TV set that DOES NOT have a problem with “Stuttering.”And Hisense needs to make sure their 2023 TV sets forget about this inferior “8-Bit plus FRC” technology that causes a rainbow effect seen by some people. Hisense should ONLY be using “True 10-Bit” technology in their TV sets.

Unbeatable Value and Picture Quality – A True Gaming Powerhouse!

I recently purchased the Hisense U8H55 TV and let me tell you, it has exceeded all my expectations. First off, let me address the price. Don’t be fooled by other overpriced options out there; this TV offers incredible performance at an unbeatable price point. I highly recommend getting the 55-inch model for around $650.Now, let’s talk about the picture quality. It is simply astonishing. The colors are vibrant, the contrast is exceptional, and the clarity is jaw-dropping. The panel does an incredible job of delivering deep blacks, making every scene come to life with incredible detail. Whether you’re watching movies, sports, or playing games, this TV will leave you in awe.Speaking of gaming, if you’re planning to use this TV for playing PS5 or Xbox Series X games, make sure to optimize the settings. I encountered some minor issues with “Motion Clearness” causing ghosting on 60fps games, but a quick YouTube video on how to adjust the settings resolved the problem. Once adjusted, the picture quality became better than anything I’ve ever experienced before. In terms of gaming capabilities, this TV is a true powerhouse. It delivers stunning 4K HDR gameplay and even supports up to 120Hz refresh rate, offering a smooth and immersive gaming experience. It’s like stepping into another world. Whether you’re playing action-packed shooters or exploring vast open-world games, the visuals will blow you away. Now, let’s address the warranty. While the Hisense warranty lasts for 2 years, I did experience a panel failure with my previous 2017 model. However, I decided to upgrade to this new U8H55, and I have not encountered any issues so far. Nevertheless, it’s always good to be aware of the warranty terms. In conclusion, the Hisense U8H55 is the best bang for your buck TV on the market right now. Its outstanding technology, combined with its affordable price, makes it a true winner. Don’t hesitate to make this purchase if you want top-notch picture quality, incredible gaming performance, and an overall outstanding viewing experience. You won’t be disappointed!

this Hisense U8K 65” TV is simply a marvel!

Coming from an old (purchased in Dec 2013), 60” Samsung Plasma TV (Samsung PN60F5500), this Hisense U8K 65” TV is simply a marvel! For less than $1000 (as of November 2023)!!I’m only using this as a display with Fire TV Stick 4K Max (connected to input 3, which is HDMI 2.1) + Sony PS5 (connected to input 4, which is also HDMI 2.1) + external audio system (through optical output from the TV). I’ve set up the TV to be turned on/off with the Fire TV stick remote control. Volume control is also managed by the same remote control. I rarely ever use the remote control that came with the TV. The TV has smart TV capabilities, but I’m not using any of the apps that come with it. Also, I do not sign into Google on this TV. (Yes, I do not like Google using my data.)The TV is well-built and feels sturdy—certainly not light enough for one person to move around easily. It helps to have at least two pairs of hands to complete the unboxing, assembling, and placing the TV wherever it goes in the house. Unboxing and setting up the TV is super simple. The first thing I did after I got this TV on wi-fi network is go through all settings and turned off all the ones that allow data-gathering by Google / Hisense. Then I updated the firmware. Then turned off wi-fi on the TV. (Will turn it back on when firmware update is needed.)With an antenna in the attic of my house, the ATSC 3.0 tuner in this TV pulls in signals from all the broadcast stations around here (San Jose, CA). With my antenna, it pulled in 121 digital channels. I did not know there were 7 nextgenTV channels (on top of the aforementioned digital channels) here till I saw them on this TV!The picture quality is excellent, with sharp and clear images, accurate colors, and amazing contrast. With high refresh rates on HDMI 2.1 inputs, gaming is super smooth.I’m so spoiled by this TV, I’m returning this one to upgrade to Hisense U7K 75” model for about the same price as this 65” TV!!! If I had space for it, I would go even bigger. In fact, I wish I had a bigger house to get the 75″ TV, yet not return this TV.

    Incredibly Great TV

I bought the 75″ unit to replace our 10-year-old 60″ unit. OMG! The picture is perfect – bright and the clarity is insane (in Dolby 4K TV mode, which we use with our Apple TV). The sound is perfect. The controls are perfect. This possibly the best TV I’ve ever had.Ours is paired with a 4K Apple TV through an HDMI cable. Amazing.

    Almost a great TV

The U8K is a good tv if you watch Netflix, Disney+ or any streaming content at 1080p or 4k, in SDR, HDR10 or Dolby Vision. The HDR10+ in Amazon prime is not as good because the HDR10+ presets on the TV dims a lot the picture quality, doesn’t let the highlights stand out, so it won’t look as good as other movies in different formats. You can bypass the HDR10+ by installing a steaming adapter and use other formats like regular HDR10 that won’t try to force into the TV the HDR10+ adaptive meta data. The biggest issue with the TV is uniformity. My unit came with a lot of spots of light bleed in the panel that affects the image quality when the backlight’s local dimming system is trying to dim areas of the movie that were supposed to be black but will show gray instead and where there should be some vibrant color it will show it more pale because of this panel defect. The TV improved a lot from the previous U8H as it does a much better job cleaning streamed content that has grainy or artifacts (noise and gradations settings actually work on the U8K) but it is still not on par with the Samsungs or Sony’s that have better smoothing of artifacts and gradations. The gray and black uniformity issue makes it worse as it contributes to a dirty image in some scenes. Also the processor doesn’t seem to keep up with the processing of the frames as in some scenes it shows it unprocessed and then the TV doing the smoothing right after so it is a bit distracting seeing some frames without the processing (grain, artifacts, banding). The processor just seems slow with processing the frames in real time.On regular TV channels or YouTube the quality is not as good as in Netflix. There is a lot of color shifting between contents and processing it’s not consistent between different contents so you’ll find yourself constantly adjusting the picture settings to improve the image between channels. The interface is also slow, sometimes freezing for moments witch gives the feeling of navigating a windows computer plagged with some virus.Another bug is that sometimes you turn off the TV, go to a previous watched content on Netflix and the black levels are completely messed up, very gray, pale and when you go to settings to adjust them it is locked up somehow. You try to adjust any setting and it says the setting is not avaliable for adjusting. You have to turn the the off, leave it off for a while and pray the next time you turn it on the black levels are back to normal or the picture settings on the menu are unlocked and working again so you can re-adjust them. This is definitely a bug that Hisense has to look into and solve it. I suspect it could be a Google TV interface bug as I’ve seen it before on a TCL R655 I returned before it for the same reason. As for motion it is not perfect. There’s jitters and juddering ocasionaly. The smooth setting is the best but still judders. The other settings like standard or film are worse.Colors are vibrant when the local dimming doesn’t mess up lighting up the whole screen making the picture colors more bland and washed-out which doesn’t happen all the time but when it does it is perceptible. Seems like another issue caused by the slow image processor. In general the TV sometimes looks dimmer than it was supposed to in some scenes and highlights doesn’t stand up well when the processor seems to be lost analyzing the frame. A lot of black crushing seems to occur to prevent blooming in dark scenes. In gaming the image seems dimmed down more than normal which also prevents some highlights to stand out. Image is still good just not great, and the color seems darkly oversaturated because of that.To resume, it is a good TV that cannot achieve greatness due the slow processor and lack of refinement in the image processing side where the TV processor sometimes just doesn’t keep up analyzing the frame in real time to know what should be lit up or dimmed down and in what amount, where to bright some highlights up and where to dim some shadow or dark areas down.Colors are good and vibrant but visibly inaccurate, needing some calibration and with calibration I think the image will definitely look a lot better. If you don’t wanna go through all the hassle of calibrating or being constantly forced to adjust image settings in different contents get a Sony. If you don’t have the money, you can get 70% to 80% of a Sony image quality and processing for a lot less with some adjusting here but if you are picky with image quality like me you will have some frustrations sometimes. It’s a shame because with a better processor or a little more refinement this TV would reign right up there with the top ones because sometimes it shows its greatness, sometimes it doesn’t.PS: Got a replacement unit from Amazon and the uniformity on this unit was a lot better but still not satisfactory. There wereno clouding spots all over the screen, just a few small ones barely noticeable but enough to show in some frames when watching a show. The brightness and contrast on the replacement unit was way better with no issue of pale images or grayish backs BUT… that’s how far my luck went. The colors on this unit was all over the place. On the color preset warm1 everything looks too green and on warm2 everything looks too red. On standard everything looks too pale and on cool everything looks too blue and pale. In other words it needs professional calibration. I was able to enjoy the incredible high brightness the TV can achieve (not in HDR10+ tough) and the blacks this time were inky blacks, but was irritated by how bad and off the colors were. Some movies and series on Netflix are graded really good and overlaps the TV settings and in those cases the images look really good but they are a few exceptions. Most other contents you will find yourself back and forth trying to adjust colors with no success and will notice something is not right. I give up on this TV.

    So far so good

I’ve had this for about a month. I replaced a smaller older Samsung in bedroom.First, the tv was well packaged and had no physical damage. Install was easy, but need correct spacers for using a wall mount.First impression, No Dead Pixels, and screen was much brighter than my older (2012) Samsung. Took a little bit to figure how to m make it to default to hdmi port on power up.The only issue I have is when I start the tv and my Tivo, the picture come on a second then goes blank even though it is on the correct hdmi port. The way I need to make it work is, use tv remote switch source to antenna and then back to hdmi port. Then everything’s fine. Also on the “smart” side, the streaming apps work well for what I use.The tv as for processor power, a little slow, but for me it’s a tv 📺 😀

    Just buy it

TLDR: Buy the TVI bought the 75″ version and I’ve gotta tell you, this thing is amazing. Great color, mindblowing contrast, wonderful features, and flawless streaming. Also, if you are into that sort of thing it gets so bright you could use it in a room with wide open windows, that or forget the settings and turn it on in a dark room and basically blind yourself. We’re talking snowblind levels of brightness. That said I do have 4 issues.1. Occasional motion issues. It’s not consistent and only happens in some internal apps but there is occasional issues with motion such as stutter and judder. A notable example of this has been Crunchyroll and Youtube (occasionally) I’m thinking this is due to inconsistency between frame rates on this steamed content but I’m really not sure. I could turn on motion smoothing but I really don’t like the soap opera effect. Maybe I’ll give it a chance if it doesn’t get resolved via an update soon.2. The built-in web browser SUCKS. I wish I could install something else but I’ll just hook up a dedicated PC to it one day. I had to use this to get around some issues I had with a few apps at first that have since been resolved via update and thank god for that.3. Dolby Vision is broken in some apps like Netflix. I think they are currently trying to fix this via software updates but I haven’t seen an improvement yet.4. I think this is an issue with Google TV itself but I cannot use the voice-to-text feature on the kid’s accounts I set up for my daughters. I’ve tried to resolve this but I cannot find a fix. This is a huge pain when searching for shows for my daughter on apps like Youtube kids as typing in the requests with the remote is slow compared to just saying it aloud and the assistant typing it in for you. At first, it might not seem like a problem, but when my youngest gets into the cycle of wanting to watch something new/specific every 3-5 minutes it can turn into a slog. So for anyone with kids and looking to use the child accounts on the TV. Be prepared to invest in a dedicated wireless keyboard for it.That said, even knowing what I know now. I’d still buy it. Without a question or a second thought. The picture is that good. It’s basically an OLED without the risk of burn-in. I’m not kidding in the slightest. In regular content, I probably wouldn’t be able to tell an LG C1 and a U8H apart from a regular viewing distance. Maybe something with a lot of fast or panning motion as the C1’s motion is flawless but in most cases, I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to tell. It’s easily 95% of an Oled at 75% of the price, and it’s worth every penny.

Screen uniformity issues and Dirty screen effect right out of the box.

When i got this tv at first I’m very like it. Picture quality is fantastic. HDR movie look great. Black level very good and view angel of this tv is good too (ADS Panel). but I found a lot of gray spots on the screen, especially at right side of the screen, Look like the spots came from the led backlight. You can clearly see it when you watch something like football, soccer, sport or when you run gray uniformity test (pic 1,2) . And one more issue is that, When local dimming feature turn off you will see a lot of backlight bleeding (pic 3).I really like this U8K TV. But I can’t ignore the screen issues. I will return this unit and i will try different size different panel.

Noted for its brightness and does not disappoint

The picture is highly dependent upon the input quality. HDR, 4K, 60fps (or better for each of these) will produce a stunning picture. Anything less will be less. The highs are worth any lows.It took me six months to get the picture adjusted but I am now happy with it. The final adjustment was the motion for judder. Now that football season is here I can see the judder effect has been eliminated. The only lingering adjustment is sometimes the green is to vivid when looking at a bright scene with a lot of green. I can live with it.The Google operating system works fine. The Roku system is more familiar for ease of use but I do not feel the need to replace Google with Roku. The sound is fine and I do not feel the need for a sound bar.Out of the box be prepared for a steep learning curve. Adjustments will be needed to factory settings.Of course these comments apply to the 2022 model and the 2023 model is now out and may change everything. The best rating I can give you is that I have two TV’s I watch every day. I never think of replacing this Hisense. The other one (not a Hisense) I do and Hisense is high on my list of possible replacements for it.

    Very bright, but….

It’s brighter and louder than my TCL 6 series I had.My TCL was set it and forget it. I was so simple and still has a phenomenal picture. This new Hisense is too bright, you have to dim it and add black back into the screen. A lot of fine tuning to dial it in. The speakers are louder and the sun is nice but my TV Mount backplate covers a bit of it. It seems this TVs price point on sale is fine. I wish it was a little cheaper. If the TCL QM8 was in a 55”, I would have gone with that. Also, I miss Roku. This Google platform is a hot mess.

    Great value

Picture quality is exceptional for this price point. Very deep blacks and amazing detail on 4K source material. We watched a few 80’s movies and the detail was excellent as well, beating out the best picture that our old tv could get even from 1080p shows. Sound is very good, and the small subwoofer adds just a little punch to the bass. It won’t replace a sound bar, but if you (like me) don’t ever expect to get a sound bar, then this is a great feature. Remote is a little simple, with no illuminated buttons. But it is solid and feels good. Only owned this tv for a week, but immediately replaced our bedroom tv with the 55” version.

Image quality is stunning! Google TV is excellent. Price was $1,800 for the 85″ TV

The media could not be loaded.

     1) Picture quality is absolutely fantastic, especially for this price point.2) The overall build quality looks good and it does seem simple to use overall.3) As far as durability, only time will tell. I hope the “memory corruption issues” that other reviewers have pointed out are no longer a concern. Lastly, I am a bit disappointed that ©o$t©o includes a 5-year warranty.4) Ironically, I turned on the TV to record this video and it had trouble populating the home screen and actually put up a small message mentioning that. I navigated around and or hit the home button and it refreshed and populated the home screen without any further issues. Hopefully a firmware update will address any further such issues.Important observation, Make sure to enable turbo mode when asked during setup. If it doesn’t ask, go through the settings afterwards and enable it…After set up is complete, go to your App Store and download “Downloader”. Use it to search and download/install the three apps in the picture, starting from Cinema HD, ending at Smart tube next beta. Enjoy. 👋🏼

Change Picture mode to “Standard” from “Energy Saving”

Great TVIncredible picture!!!Built in subwoofer and speakers are AWESOME!!!Tried to run it with my Apple TV (like a Roku box) – worked ok – but smart features built into TV to improve picture were disabled…. The Apple streaming box was also 30 fps and a 2017 version…. So – if you are not willing to log into Google to use the Google TV interface (and get more than the 5 or so apps which come with the TV) – move on or get an updated Roku Ultra streaming box. I initially logged into Google TV – but I have to admit the Android operating system could be slow…UPDATE: The only way you can get more than the 5 or so streaming channels that come on the TV is by signing into Google…. I grew weary of Google wanting everything – and the slow Google TV interface – so I purchased a ROKU Ultra – and have been able to get the same quality video on the Roku’s Netflix app as I can with the Hisense built in Netflix app…Update 2 – I really should have complimented Hisense on the AWESOME built in subwoofer and speakers. 99% of users will not need to spring for a soundbar…. 6 stars out of 5!I used input 1 for my Roku.IMPORTANT – to get the best picture – go to Hisense Settings, select “Picture”, and then, under “General”, select “Picture Mode”, and select “Standard”. The TV comes with the “Picture Mode” set to “Energy Saving” by DEFAULT – which dims the display…. Makes no sense – you buy the TV because of its brightness level – and it comes delivered with the brightness turned to “energy saving”…

The closest you can get to OLED, without buying OLED!!

    1) Brightness:TV is capable of getting insanely bright. As video reviews suggest, the peak brightness of 1500 knits listed by Hisense is definitely SURPASSED. Some reviewers said they measured over 2200 Knits, and I believe it.2) The back is curved and the bottom mounting screw spaces are indented into the plastic. Which means grabbing a regular swivel mount and just screwing it into the back WILL NOT WORK.You MUST use spacers for the bottom screws ( along with longer screws) to mount this TV. I also used a small spacer for the top screws because the Subwoofer bezel is right in the center of the back of the TV and I wanted to play it safe by providing a little bit of extra room between the mount and subwooofer.3) Sound:Hisense stepped up their game. Sound is very good, and very loud. I’m not an audiophile, so for me it’s enough. The small subwoofer is a nice addition, though j wish it wasn’t in the middle of the back which is mounted (subs are non directional so it’s not a huge issue).4) Picture quality. 15/10. The colors look quite natural, very vibrant. The brightness is breathtaking. The whites are super white. The blacks are PITCH BLACK.5) Color uniformity. Ran uniformity tests and they looked flawless. Definitely an improvement from H9G, even tho that TV had minimal uniformity issues.6) For 120hz gamint, you must use HDMI 2.1 cable and you MUST turn on the enhanced hdmi setting on your TV.7) Android Interface: Surprisingly quick/snappy. I like it a lot. My only complaint is the you cannot cast to this TV without installing some a third party cast app. Not a huge deal, as I rarely do that. But nonetheless something I’d expect a smart TV to have from factory.TV is incredible. BUY IT!!!!P.S. Buying through Bestbuy for pickup has been a nightmare. Canceled my order had it delivered by Amazon to my doorstep for free. For those wondering how the delivery works. Just like any other package. They deliver it and leave it on your porch. Definitely want to make sure someone is home so it doesn’t sit there (whether bad weather or thieves is the concern). This is the second time I’ve had a TV delivered and both times they left it on the porch. Thankfully I live in a quiet area and it’s not a big cocern, but I could see it being an issue in big cities.

Great tv , a little too bright

This smart tv offers so much. Takes a while to get through all the settings, it my son did a great job calibrating the settings picture is quite bright. I probably would have been just as happy with the U7k . I’m not using the Google apps included because I have a Roku ultra connected which already has all my passwords. Didn’t want to bother signing in to all the apps. I wish they’d just make “dumb” TVs in this size. This is the first time I’ve bought a new tv in years and read a lot of reviews before choosing this unit which is a brand I’m not familiar with. I’ve always just bought a Panasonic and have been very happy but they don’t make those for the Us market anymore.

    Mostly good

The fact that I’m required to select HDMI 1 (my cable box) everytime is SO ANNOYING! Are all Google TVs this way?Doesn’t seem amazingly bright, suggest saving your money, buy the U7 version. Also, the motion smoothing features causes a trail of hockey picks, so I turned that feature off. I also keep the local dimming (main reason to buy this over the lower models) to “Low” in case that is also causing motion artifacts as players and picks move quickly.Perhaps a Sony TV with better panel that doesn’t require so many local zones is wiser (and sends less money to China).

    Best value to performance TV

This TV is almost perfect. Only ding is that Boot up time is a little slow, tv can be a little sluggish at times (mainly right after it’s booted up) navigating the menus/apps. Also when you turn it on, the WiFi takes a few extra seconds to connect.Picture quality, apps supported, etc are all excellent. To beat this tv you would have to spend hundreds more.

excelente relación calidad – precio / Great value for the price

Great value for the price. However, all Latin American countries do not come preconfigured, which is why I only rate 4 stars. I bought it for Colombia, but since this country is not configured, I could not configure the DVB-T2 signal. I’ll keep an eye out for future updates to include it.Overall, and for the price, this model is only surpassed by the SONY line. For the same price, it is not worth buying LG or SAMSUNG. Maybe TCL

    Good tv but…

The remote is atrocious. Slow, dim light (no excuse for it), easy to knock over yet designed to stand upright; laying on its side works but is just as unstable. Had I known this, I would have gotten the Sony for that reason alone. The TV looks great once you take the time to calibrate it. The menu/gui is painfully slow. Google interface doesn’t understand a lot of basic commands yet it overrides your android phone, then tells you how it can’t preform that request.

    Internet issues

For the most part I like this TV. The biggest drawback that I found was it has a problem staying connected to the internet. At least 3 times a day it has “no internet connection”, when in fact, the rest of my house continues to have the internet just fine. When I have to replace this TV I’ll consider another brand just for that reason.

The hype is real this TV is absoluty amazing at this price point or any price point.

We have a 77″ LG C2 OLED in our living room, and it looks amazing, it should, it wasn’t cheap. We have the 65″ Hisense U8H in our bedroom, and some days I wonder if I didn’t make a mistake and maybe should have just bought the larger U8H for that room too.I don’t know if I can pay the U8H a better compliment than to say that I think I would have been nearly as happy with it in my living room as I am with my OLED.Since I started this with a comparison to my C2 I might was well finish the review by doing that too.Picture quality on the C2 is much better on Dolby Vision quality. Hisense did not do a great job with Dolby Vision, so I run the Roku attached to the U8H on HDR Plus settings which is where this TV really shines it is comparable to the C2 in HDR mode, maybe even a smidgen better. The U8H is much brighter than the C2, you can surf for the nit values if you like, but I’m telling you it’s very noticeable, and it’s a big plus in my book for the U8H.I had to play with the picture settings, a lot, to like the U8H. I watched videos on YouTube, I tried other people’s settings, and over time I fine-tuned them down to what I like best. It is this reviewer’s opinion that this TV is not plug-and-play, not if you want it to look as amazing as it can look. The C2 does way better job upscaling lower quality content to higher definition. My wife told me, after a week with the C2, that she thought it was cool that so many of the old movies and TV shows she liked were remastered in 4K, it took me a long time to prove to her, it was the TV doing the upscaling, and they were not remastered. The U8H does not shine with upscaling, if the source is not at least HD it’s hard to watch, whatever the U8H is doing may even make it a little worse than it would in just plain standard definition.Avatar looks amazing on the C2, but on the U8H it’s breathtaking. Yep, I said it, it’s looks better to me. I ran back and forth from each room to make sure, and I can say I like “Avatar Way of the Water” better on the U8H in HDR Plus mode than the C2 in Dolby Vision. I can’t make this claim for most movies the C2 win’s, but it’s not as big an advantage as you would think. Conclusions: You will be super happy with this TV, you can invite your videophile friends over, and they will be impressed, they will be more impressed when you tell them what you paid for it. You can spend more money and buy the better C2 and invite those same videophile friends over, and they will be only slightly more impressed, especially when you tell them what you paid for it.

Great TV. So glad I purchased.

Hisense u8k 75 inch, what a great tv. Crystal clear 4k,8k 12k awsome. So glad I purchased this tv. It has built in surround sound that sounds pretty darn good for my needs and enough bass in the sub. So far this tv is fantastic. Colors are just crazy in a very good way. This tv is packed very well and delivery was superb, so don’t worry about it being damaged during transport. Thank you Amozon!!

    Great display

Really like the picture and sound quality my only grievance was that it was a google smart tv and not a Roku but it had 4 hdmi ports so plugging in the box saved me from trying to re log in to all my accounts on a different smart tv set up. Definitely an upgrade from the 10 year old Westinghouse tv we had before.

    Amazing TV.. but..

This TV is probably the best there is, only problem I had is that I got a defective one from day 1. Once I turned it on, the TV went to Google TV and then few moments later, the screen went completely black and all you could hear was what was playing. I turned it off and back on, and the TV had a black blotch spot on the left side corner. I unplugged the TV for about 5 mins and the blotch was gone. one week later the same thing happened again, and at that point I didn’t want to take a chance and decided to return the product.

    False advertising of promos

I bought this partly because of the promo on the Amazon site. Buy the U8H get NBA2K24 Black Mamba for free. Now I find out that purchases on Amazon do not qualify for promos. Total BS. That’s why 3 stars not because of the TV but what Hisenee pulled off.Regarding the TV I’ll give that 4 stars. The TV is a little slow considering it’s WiFi 6. It’s right next to my router and streaming takes a little to start. It’s a TV obviously it isn’t going to get my 1200mbps but it shouldn’t be this slow. Google TV is sluggish granted it could be I just need to get used to it. I have Roku, Amazon Fire on other tv’s and lg webos. Once it starts there’s no issues with streaming with the exception of Peacock. Seems to me only on the Hisense as my other tv’s don’t have that issue. Again this is closest to the router and I have closed all other leaches from my internet. No difference. If there’s no promo and you don’t mind Google TV you’ll be just fine. Excellent picture, you’ll need a soundbar though the tv speakers leave a little to be desired.

Best value mid-range TV of the year

This Hisense mid-range (its their flagship model) TV is comparable in features and picture quality to the mid and high range Sony and Samsung TVs for half the price. Rtings.com and CNET calls this TV the best value bang for your buck of 2023, and I agree. I just wish Sony and Samsung would up their game and release better priced TVs that are miniLED like this one.

Very nice!! Competes with the high end brands!!

I really love this TV, just I had a very nice Samsung and the picture spoiled me , I guess I was always a more vivid picture guy, but the hdr is nice on this TV here I just may need to adjust my settings more. I even thought about turning off the HDR mode but I can’t figure it out.I would still rate this TV a 4.8 out of 5 only because of it being little darker than I’m used to. If you are looking for a great TV with 120vrr and an amazing picture, that is not very pricey, then this is the one! Like I mentioned it competes with the higher end big name brands!

    Impressive, but some flaws

I have tried several TV’s since last year and have finally returned them. But I will keep this one because it is impressive.I tried 2 Hisense previously, the U6GR which was really bright but colors were oversaturated, faces looked red and such; and then tried the U6HF recenlty, but it was not bright enough. This one is really bright, with good colors that don’t look oversaturated, deep blacks, so it is really balanced.Motion is good but not great, but still that varies depending on the source.I mostly do streaming on Fubo TV which is 720p and everything looks good. Some settings I am using:-For SD:I am using the settings by Quantum TV on Standard.I use the default Sports for sportsAnd Filmmakermode as it is by default when I don’t like how Standar looks.-For HDRI use Filmmaker mode or Theater Day as they are by default.Theater Night at night so it is not so bright.-Dolby VisionI use Dolby Vision IQ as it is out of the box.The only thing I changed on all of them is turning off the automatic light sensor because it dims everything. It looks really good with those settings.Oh and use Motion on Standard or Smooth… the Film setting makes the screen stutter and doesn’t looks good. For gaming, I have a Series S and I use the TV gaming mode for SDR or Dolby Vision. No HDR, because I use the 1440p resolution at 120 Hz which I think looks better than 4k, and the Xbox has an issue of don’t displaying HDR on 1440p, but it still looks good, almost all games support Dolby Vision now.But still was a little dim for me, so I raised the backlight to 100, Contrast to 70, and color to 60 as well. Local Dimming on High. For sound, I use it with a Bose 900 and there is no delay.BTW I had to put the soundbar on top pf the TV legs because there is no space otherwise.I have it on eARC enabled and Audio Output as Passthrough and got Dolby Atmos without issue or delay. The only thing that makes me reduce one star is that the UI has some bugs. One that I have seen in Paramount+ is that when you try to change the picture settings it goes out of the video, so you cannot change the settings… For intance watching something on Dolby Vision, you click the menu and the screen goes black and the options for picture settings are for SDR (because Dolby Vision is out) so you cannot change Dolby Vision. This issue was on other apps and they already fixed it, but left Paramount+ as this.So if they fix all the little bugs on the system that are software related, it will be 5 stars. And not 5 stars for the price, or for budget TV, if everything is sorted out, it is 5 stars at any price, really.

Lots of good features… unfortunately there are also a couple of bad ones

All of the reviews are right and the brightness of the television is great for the price. Same goes for the dark blacks. This is the first TV I’ve own that wasn’t bottom-of-the-barrel budget quality so I truly do appreciate the Dolby Vision and the cheap Vizio soundbar I bought to go with the 55U8H.The only problem is, it seems woefully underpowered to properly render some of the content it is attempting to process. I have to reboot it occasionally when it begins to stutter and freeze and am now looking into settings I might change to reduce the total load on the SOC inside of the television. If I find them, I’ll edit my review to include the solutions I’ve found.Overall, it looks better than any TV I’ve ever owned for a fraction of the cost of the more premium models, it is the first TV over 45 inches I’ve ever owned, and I like a great many things about it, including the Google TV OS. I waited about six months to write this review because I’d kept hearing that a firmware fix was coming that would address some of the issues I and others have experienced… at this point, I’m not holding my breath. The short of it is, if you want a nice TV that supports many of the current HDR formats and can’t afford a $1000+ one, this is a great set. Just be prepared to deal with the… “quirks”. They aren’t that big of a deal for me, but given all of the reviews when it launched, I was hoping for something a little more polished. Not upset, just kind of disappointed with where the product finally landed in what I must assume is the final iteration of the firmware as Hisense goes on to work on next year’s model.

Stunning display with a few minor complaints

This TV (Hisense 55U8K) is an absolute treat to the eyes when watching movies, shows, or playing games. Photos don’t do it justice you have to see it in person to fully experience it. I have some cons that I am listing as well as pros. The cons don’t stop me from enjoying this TV any less they are just some things to keep in mind if you decide to get this TV. I am not mentioning specs much in the review as they are mentioned above in the listing and spec sheet. For a full review of every little spec and detail see rtings.com (not misspelled) review. Overall, this TV is great for those interested in really any kind of content but just keep some of the cons in mind.Pros:*Automatic picture settings works amazing at recognizing the content type and adjusting to it, (must be enabled in settings).*4K 120hz is native and even games that don’ts support it benefit from reduced latency (like in the Forza Horizon 5 photos).*Everything looks so life like and clear, haven’t run into anything looking off or terrible. Even old games are upscaled and look fine.*The speakers are amazing, the subwoofer makes action in movies truly immersive.*Price is way lower than other comparable displays.*Micro LED so no burn in and has good contrast especially blacks.*Dolby Vision and HDR are both supported unlike Samsung displays.*The game bar and FPS viewing are nice features for gamers.Cons:*AV (component) is supported but the adapter needed is not included, you have to go their support site to have them send you it.*When changing picture mode out of Auto you have to go back into the TV settings to turn it back on.*Only 2 HDMI ports are 144hz with one being the E-ARC and the other two just regular 4K 60hz.*Google TV setup makes you accept their privacy terms and such which is annoying. Auto content recognition requires accepting Hisense privacy terms.*Onboard storage is known to a fault with Hisense so using a Fire stick or Roku will extend the life of your TV.*Don’t sell my information is off by default*You have to change the HDMI configuration on each port to enhanced for 4k content to work correctly

Amazing picture but horrible interface and WiFi receiver

Pros:This TV is very easy to set up and has an amazing picture once you go through the settings and un-select all the energy saving pre-set options. It’s thin and nothing about it looks-wise that is unsatisfying. If you hardwire it or have your router in the same area, everything works fine.Cons:The BIGGEST drawback is the interface/software. The UI is sluggish and at one point my picture was not smooth. The picture issue was resolved after searching and finding out I had to disable the Android Web App. Now comes the WiFi. I get 200MB/sec in my bedroom according to my laptop and phone speed tests. This TV constantly gets a Wifi disconnected message, choppy/grainy picture, and half of the time exiting the video I’m watching because of no connection. I bought a separate Roku stick and it works flawlessly. I’d recommend avoiding GoogleTV software right now.

Extremely high peak brightness and great local dimming

This is not a rave review by someone easily impressed. I’ll get the caveats out of the way first.Freesync: In HDR Game mode, enabling Freesync will significantly limit your dynamic range detail even though your backlight brightness is unaffected. Your Windows 11 or game calibration will top out at 600 nits before highlights start suffering detail loss. Turning off Freesync lets the full dynamic range shine. My panel calibrated to 2080 nits peak brightness without losing highlight details. I recommend keeping Freesync off for this reason. You can keep 120hz on of course.Gradients: In game modes, the processing is not great at handling posterization and gradients. I’ve seen users say that turning off “instant game response” resolves this issue by sacrificing response time for more image handling. I personally didn’t notice any difference in response but I still keep instant game response on. I do my competitive gaming on a 240hz esports monitor and not this TV, so this is not a killer feature for me. Breathtaking offline games with high end visuals look wonderful.Documentation: There aren’t tooltips for menu options in the UI, and little explanation online about what options with proprietary names do. Smart Scene, I assume, is adaptive sharpening since it disables the sharpness slider. That is purely a guess, though, and illustrates the problem with documentation.Everything else has been great. We determined that we don’t need an additional sound bar due to the good enough sound from the built in speakers and subwoofer. Your mileage will vary based on the shape and size of your room. HDR gaming looks incredible on Windows 11, as well as HDR and SDR content in general in various HDR standards. The tv does a good job of using local dimming on SDR content. When viewing HDR content that doesn’t have tonemapping data (which is rare), the internal Dynamic Tonemapping option does a nice job. Local dimming does extremely well across the board. I keep local dimming on “high” in all picture modes.Overall, I’d say take a chance on this if you find it at 1000USD or less. It looks like there’s some luck of the draw on quality control but I was pleasantly surprised to have no issues once I figured out the freesync issue mentioned above. I’m happy I went with mini-led QLED over a similarly priced OLED because peak brightness affects so much in selling the realism of scenes.
