Better than I expected.
Saw this was rather cheap but the reviews said it did what I needed. Once it arrived I was actually a little surprised as it’s better than I had been anticipating.Only 1 hiccup with getting it to work, I did r notice the cable wrapped up on the bottom side of the case and so was trying to use the separate USB cable to run it. It powered up and the dvd spun, but the pc didn’t recognize it. Completely my own fault. Used the attached cable instead and all is working as it should.

A Cheep solid option

Not powerful enough
I order this to play video games and movies that require a disk. When I plug it in it was showing up on my computer as a external disk drive but it would not run any programs/videos. Had to buy a different one with more power to run it. I like the multi ports it has but sadly not enough power to run games and movies

Cannot shut off the flashing LED “accent light” – even when empty!
This is the most annoying external drive ever – so lightweight and fragile that you can’t eject a disk one-handed, you have to hold it down in order to press the button. But even more annoying: the LED triangular accent light that continuously throbs even when empty and not in use. Totally distracting. I would return in a heartbeat but was for my elderly dad whose built-in drive has failed. When visiting I sleep in the den – or try to but not with this thing plugged in!

you do need to download an app to get the external cd/dvd player to operate.
Thus far (twice) the cd/dvd player works as described. You do have to download an app to get it to operate. It seems to be of good quality and hopefully will last.

External CD/DVD Drive for Laptop, Desktop PC: 7 in 1 USB 3.0 DVD Player Portable CD/DVD Burner,
I recently purchased the 7-in-1 External CD/DVD Drive for my laptop, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with its performance and versatility. This little device has been a lifesaver, especially since my laptop doesn’t have a built-in CD/DVD drive. The USB 3.0 connectivity ensures speedy data transfer, and it’s been super reliable with a variety of operating systems, from Windows 11 to Linux and Mac OS. I’ve used it for watching movies, installing software, and even burning CDs. It’s a true all-in-one solution. The sleek design in Jet Black looks great, and it’s incredibly portable, making it perfect for on-the-go use. If you’re in need of an external CD/DVD drive, I highly recommend this one. It’s a fantastic addition to any laptop or desktop setup.

Great item, but why the shorter cable?
We added this item to our purchase of a new computer and that did not come with a drive for burning discs. The machine is nice and quiet during the running of discs and should be an asset for years to come.

Eh.
As far as what it’s for, it works ok. It’s pretty slow transferring files but with everything these days, I can afford to sit and wait for the files to get transferred from the cd/dvd to my solid state drive. It was inexpensive and small. Does what I intended it to do.

Provides what is no longer included in a new computer.
We may be in the Internet age, however there are still many computer users with programs that come on disk. When you upgrade why should you be forced to buy all new software?

It works not much more than that though
So it gets the job done just not in any hurry. It is usb-c and usb 3.0 but it acts like it is usb 2.0. I had to try all 10 USB ports to get it to work. Very finicky about the USB ports. The cable that comes with it is way too short. The transfer speeds can burst at 250 meg second but don’t count on those speeds. It is VERY flimsy and the try is held on by a very small track that you could easily break. The pictures in the listing show someone putting it in the computer bag. I would never do that because it would crumble to dust.So ya I wouldn’t recommend for major use but if you need something very 6 months it’ll do.

Great for downloading music
Rather than paying monthly fees to Pandora or Spotify, I have a CD collection of over 1,000 discs that I download tracks from the CD player to my laptop and then to my phone to create playlists. I’ve downloaded from at least 150 CD’s and this player has worked perfectly. Another great feature is adding additional inputs as the computer only has two. A great add-on to my new laptop and highly recommend!

buy it its worth it.
The first one I brought was damaged in transit, and I had another one sent to replace it. It was worth it. The Drive works like a dream. I just plugged it in and started backing up my DVD collection. It copies fast, and the quality is outstanding. If you need a reliable External DVD drive, you should get this Drive.

EXTREMELY SLOW FOR MY USE
OK FOR COPYING A FEW FILES ARE SAVING A FEW FILES, BUT THE APPLICATION THAT I PURCHASED THE ITEM FOR WAS FOR RIPPING DVD’S. MY OLD BURNER (I HAVE SUBSEQUENTLY PURCHASED A USED ONE FROM EBAY) COULD RIP A DVD IN 7 TO 10 MINUTES, THIS DEVICE TOOK BETWEEN 50 AND 60 MINUTES. IT WAS MORE LIKE A 2X RATHER THAN A 24X. VERY DISAPPOINTED. THIS WAS WITH A LOADED LAPTOP WHICH WAS NOT PART OF THE ISSUE.

Appears to have broken after minimal use
I ordered this drive because computers these days tend not to have optical media, and I still have quite a few CDs. Today I decided to rip some of them so I could listen to them easily on my computer without having to fiddle with a physical object. Things went well for a while…and then I found that audex (I’m running Linux and using KDE/Plasma) was sitting for minutes at 0% read and converted. Eventually I decided to not cancel the operation and see what happened, using a CD that I don’t recall ever having played before. After a long time, maybe fifteen minutes, it stopped having only made it 2% of the way through the disc, reporting repeated errors and suggesting that maybe my CD was cracked. It wasn’t, nor was it smudged. I tried to just play it, to see whether it would work at normal speed. No such luck; it would drop out briefly at roughly five second intervals. I would not recommend this drive.

Will buy from this company again!
This was the second DVD drive that I ordered, but this company, unlike the first one, came intact and works wonderfully! It has many USB ports and was easy to install, because all you have to do is plug it in! The box was also wrapped well!

Problem not with CD Burner but with outdated driver
I sent my 1st one back and Amazon replaced it. I thought it was defective but my replacement had the same problem. I believe the problem is with Windows Media. I gave it 3 stars because I don’t know how well it works. The problem is when I try to burn a CD it does not complete the burn. I can rip a CD OK. I wrote this review awhile back. I found that the problem was with a outdated driver.

Works fine, but – PLUG INTO USB plug at rear of computer – don’t use extension!!!
Excellent product, but you MUST NOT use any kind of extension apparatus / USB hub to plug into your comp. These are not powerful enough – it won’t work via an extension / USB hub! I tried this, and it wouldn’t work.Thought it was broke. Then I plugged it into into USB plug at rear of your comp, and it worked great.(Apparently, I had forgotten this after I installed a USB hub…it WON’T WORK through that.)Have had for a year…still working fine.

USB cord unplugs from main board
The DVD player was being used on a laptop by my grandson. The player slipped from his lap, but did not fall on a surface, and immediately stopped working. After verifying that the unit was no long under warranty, I removed 2 rubber fee at the cord end of the device and unscrewed the screws underneath. There are 2 plastic catches at that end that will pop free under moderate pressure. Once the lid came off it was evident that the interior USB port was simply unplugged. There is nothing to secure the cord to the port, it will simply unplug if the cord is pulled to the side. Very poor design. This should have something that prevents inadvertent disconnection like this.

Easy plug and play to be able to watch movies on laptop
Our new laptops do not have the cd rom drive which for the most part was fine, but when we travel, we like to watch movies on the laptop and without internet services in some areas, we use cds.First time out of the box, plugged into the laptop and watching movies in less than 5 mins.I was a bit anxious with some of the reviews I had read, but very pleasantly surprised how easy this connected and works with our Windows 11 laptops.

Stopped working after 3 days of view
Liked very much but it stopped working after 3 days of use. If CD is inserted it makes a sound like it is trying to start it but it can’t and it is forever. Tried on several CDs previously read without any problems.I do not have the original box, not sure if it is returnable.Got a message from the seller today that I can get a full refund, so I increased the rating and bought the second one. Will see if it works.Second one works ver well. I got refund for first one but before I got it, I sent it back as return. No second refund it needed btut I do not see option to cancel refund.

Works great
This was on sale. I don’t burn disks often, but this seems like handy to have around when I do.I like that it has USB, Memory card readers, and CD/DVD read write. its pretty versatile. Also, sometimes I work with older computers and the extra power cable is needed. I like that its an option and works as intended. To date, I have only used the card reader function, but I’m confident the DVD write and read function works as intended. this device has been helpful with transferring data to/from a memory card a couple of times.

Had to replug it in several times before it was recognized by my Windows 11 laptop.
The instructions are frustrating, in tiny print and poorly written. I first tried to plug the player into my new Windows 11 HP laptop with the separate cable that came with it. Turns out that was the cord for power, which I luckily didn’t end up needing because there was no electrical plug to use it with anyways. I then found and tried the USB cable that is connected to the bottom of the player. My laptop initially didn’t recognize this cd/dvd player. Based on someone else’s comment in the reviews, I unplugged it and then replugged it in a couple of times and eventually the player was recognized by my laptop. Once that occurred, it seems to be working ok, although I haven’t tried watching a feature length DVD movie on it.

It kind of works
I bought this because my new computer does not have an optical drive. I tried to use this to install a program from a disc and it failed. I tried to burn a DVD and after about an hour, it gave me an error that the burn had failed. It played an audio CD just fine, but it was a bit of hit and miss with a DVD.It is better than nothing, but It is slow and unreliable compared to the DVD drives I had on my old computers. For as little as I need a DVD drive, this will work for me.

Easy to install, but freezes up
It was easy to install, however it freezes up while playing. When it freezes, you cannot jump ahead or unfreeze it. You need to totally take the DVD out, unplug and re-insert DVD. I have tried:1. Trying the DVDs in another DVD player and they work perfectly, no glitches2. After taking the DVD out and re-inserting the DVD Jumping ahead of where it froze. Then going back to where it froze and it plays through the part where it froze.Long story short, there is something wrong with this device reading the DVD. Am returning this.

Incredibly Disappointing – Broken And Deceiving
I got this on Prime Day to satisfy three grievances of my setup: no optical drive, no SD/TF slots, and no remaining open USB ports. 32 days later and I am back to those same issues.Story time – I was initially very impressed by this unit, it played my CDs and allowed me to connect my mp3 player / music storage via USB, and still left me open with additional USB slots. The microSD slot didn’t work right away, but it did after I restarted my computer. I have not been able to get it to work again after that first time. Full size SD slot never worked.Well okay, at least I still have my music and additional USB slots. With additional power supplied, I attempted to connect an external hard drive through the unit; it caused my computer to bluescreen.Just today I bought a new CD and couldn’t wait to listen to it while I worked. Put it in the drive, it spun but the computer didn’t recognise it. I tried hardware troubleshooter, the command line registry fix for unrecognised optical drives, and updating the driver – no dice. After a couple restarts the device started throwing error 43s. Throughout this whole process the drive wouldn’t eject my disc. Ultimately I just wanted the disc back, so I did what the instruction booklet said and used a pin to pull out the tray, and the cover snapped right off. I did manage to get the disc out but I don’t trust it with any discs nor drives anymore.Kind of interesting that all these errors started happening right after the return window closed.Onto the minor irritants that I’ve dealt with regardless of the larger issues. The lighting on the top of the device is incredibly flashy – think of any cheap blinky item that cycles through a few colours steadily before going through those same colours quickly. Not much of a calm little working indicator. As many other reviews state, it’s not very well built. Before the disc tray plate snapped off it was already warped from the moment it came out of the box. It’s low profile but flimsy feeling. Cord is too short for it to rest neatly anywhere (my computer is a large tower). With or without a disc inside, the back of the device gets concerningly warm. I have an inkling this relates to the lighting. I worry I’ll damage anything I put in the hub area because it’s so hot. Nevermind how hot it must get when burning a disc. Here’s the part that sealed the one star deal for me – included within the item box (not the envelope, within the unit’s box) is a strange packet with a card inside bribing for a five star review. It says not to mention it in a review for obvious reasons, but I’m so disappointed in this product I’m offended that they would offer $25 to write a five star review. I don’t doubt that there are genuine five star reviews here (don’t get me wrong – this device is still very plug and play, and if it works as expected it’s a great unit for the price), but who’s to say this product would still look as appealing if this little scheme wasn’t set up. I feel I’ve been deceived into buying a faulty, cheaply made, and low quality product, and I want those who read the reviews to know that.

When an external device doesn’t quite work as hoped, you can’t just blame the device
Closing the CD tray is a little sticky but otherwise seems well made. USB ports work, and the extra cord for power boost is a nice feature. Of course, I had trouble with Windows. My wife’s laptop has a USB-C port which did not recognize this device (unfortunately), but who’s to blame–the device or the laptop? I tried ripping some CDs with Win Media Player and most times WMP didn’t display track names correctly, but is that Windows, WMP, or the device? It’s not bad enough to send back, but I’d recommend that with a device like this you make sure it works for what you need before you can no longer send it back. Good luck!

the fact you have to buy these external now is crazy. and there so many out there. i got this one for the extras on it and it is relatively smooth and easier to clean the dust off of surface. wish the usb ports had some kind of door on them because of dust getting on and in everything. but i was blown away on how small this thing is. love it though, has its own light show going on top , not too bright though. hooked up and ran fine. tested 1 nero burned dvd and played great. havent used any ports yet.
