    For watching movies

My son uses this for watching movies on DVD. He has not used it as a CD layer or to burn CDs.The dvd player worked and he was able to play movies. But he said it had been a while since he’s used a dvd player and so he wasn’t sure if it was odd that there was some delay when he selected Play or a scene from “Scene selection.” There was a delay. He says he would not recommend trying to scrub through or to fast forward as it’s difficult or near impossible to get to the scene you want manually; just use scene selection. One odd thing that popped up when he first used the DVD player was that it asked me what region the film is in. It mentioned that I could only change the region 4 or 5 more times depending on the film. Does that mean he should only watch films from my region? If he were to watch foreign films, would that be an issue if I have to change the region? This is not VHS with different formats, so he was confused by this.for straightforward watching movies start to finish, it does the job.

    Reads individual media just fine

This external CD and DVD drive is pretty good. It connects to a computer or a console without issues, and each of the ports works perfectly. I can view DVDs, listen to CDs, and read media from flash drives and SD cards. All of the ports function normally on this lightweight external drive, which is how it should be. However, I have noticed that I am only able to read one item at a time. So only one drive can be used at a time even if there are multiple things plugged into it, or if there is a disc in the drive. This is a bit inconvenient, and I’m not sure if it’s a limitation with this product itself, or if the device I’m connecting it to is having issues reading everything properly. Although inconvenient to me, it is not a deal breaker. It is still useful, especially since new laptops don’t even come with a disc drive at all, which is super annoying.

Won’t Play My US DVD Movies…

I have been experimenting with mini-pc technology and needed a DVD/CD drive. I figured that I would see if this C port-compatible drive would be faster than my older external DVD-RW drive. For the price, I do understand why it doesn’t come with a case, but I sure do miss that for something that is meant to be portable. I was easily able to play CDs of many types, even previously burned ones. I was able to burn/write to all types of CDs/DVDs. Then I tried to play some DVD movies, that’s when I ran into a problem. None of them would play, no matter what their age. I kept getting errors about a security check. I tried 4 or 5 different players. I made sure that each one had the region set correctly. I tried to check to see if the drive had its own region code. Windows 11 Pro didn’t allow me to change anything with this drive. There were some DVDs that would play, but I can’t mention those without violating Amazon’s community guidelines. I plugged my older DVD-RW drive in, and every single DVD played just fine. I even checked in two of my DVD players connected to TVs, just to be sure before writing this review. I also checked for any KB that would allow me to change this drive’s region code, but nothing was found that would work. Also, the included “manual” is a total waste of resources! There is no reason to include that worthless piece of paper, but everything is pretty self-explanatory anyway.* This was an Amazon Vine order. Products may be received at little to no cost in exchange for my sincere/frank review after trying and testing. The opinions above are my own and may not reflect other’s experiences.

    Ok external drive

I got this because we have a couple of computers that don’t have a cd/DVD drive. I also think they are going away on laptops and I am old school. I tested it with an audio disk and it work but was slow to load. I also tried it with 2 older DVDs and it just would play them. My internal drive could play one (no idea what the issue was with the other one). Then I pulled out a brand new never played DVD and it played it fine but still a lone time to load. The USB drives work but on my computer it would pull up two file explorer windows (one was the DVD and the other a sub window for the USB). I did not try to burn a disk but it seems to work it seems slow but my computer is getting some age on it. For the price it is ok.

    Multi-Functionality!

This external DVD/CD read/write drive with 4 usb 2.0 ports and sd/micro sd slots is such a great value for performance and functionality. Tested my trackball on all 4 usb ports and also the sd/micro sd slots without any issues. Be aware the cards are not spring loaded and stick out (especially the full SD card). And it only comes with SD adapter for micro sd card (no memory cards supplied).Whether at home or on the go, this device is great to have because of the built in 4 port usb hub and memory card readers besides the DVD/CD player.Odd: facing the usb ports as top cover position, pushing up toward usb ports will remove the cover. Less than 1/8 inch play to remove. Overall, for the price: Recommended.

Access your CDs, DVDs, SD Cards and add USB devices with ease!

Wonderful external CD/DVD drive that includes other I/O options such as an SD card reader and extra USB ports which is great for if your PC doesn’t have any of those built into it. It is literally plug-and-play and instantly is recognized by Windows. Not sure if compatible with a Mac, but worth a try if you have the regular USB-A to USB-C adapter. It reads CDs extremely quickly and easily works. It is well-built and the drive appears to be of good quality. I haven’t had a disc drive for my computer set up since the early 2010s so it is wonderful to have for burning music CDs for the car, or even burning a few demos if you are a musician. And even for data discs if you want to store programs or media when you’re without a USB flash drive. This is a wonderful drive and I highly recommend you having one for your computer needs!

Great Read/Write Drive! Plug-and-Play operation with OSX on a MacBook Pro

Wow, what a great external drive!I have an old MBP that has a built-in DVD/CD reader/writer that is not writing to disc. Discs also often get stuck from ejecting because the case of the MBP has a dent at the disc drive exit. And, the MBP is located under the desk out of immediate reach to work with discs…so, long story short, I needed an external drive. This external drive was immediately plug-and-play recognized by OSX. I played a DVD first; no problem. Next, I burned an audio disc from Apple Music/iTunes; success! It also functioned attached to a USB 4-port hub that is attached to an older Thunderbolt display. The drive did not require the separate, proprietary/custom USB power cable that’s also included. The MBP or attached USB hub has enough power for the external drive to operate correctly.I really like it when things just work as they should, and this drive is up and running right out of the gates. The drive has a neat little recession that allows the cable to sit in it; since it’s attached, no need to ever look for a cable to connect it. The attached cable also provides both USB and USB-C connections to address previous and current generation computers of USB connectivity. It looks like this drive has met its demand. For $25 this is an exceptional value; I’m happy to have this drive, allowing me to easily read and write discs once again!

    Compact Versatility at Its Best

I recently acquired the External CD Drive Portable Drive with USB3.0, and I’m thoroughly impressed. Its compact design belies its capabilities, functioning seamlessly as an external CD/DVD drive. What sets it apart is its versatility – powered by USB C or a separate DC cord, and enhanced by 4 extra USB ports and an SD card function. Beyond a CD drive, it proves to be a valuable and multifunctional peripheral, making it a practical choice at an affordable price.

Lots of Ways to Enjoy Media

I got this to create training materials because I’m frequently using SurfacePro and Dell laptops that do not have built-in drives. This is an external “plug and play” unit that works great and is well built. Its USB 3.0 connection has quick transfer speeds for all media formats, and it read and wrote my project DVDs/CDs without any issues. I also watched a foreign movie and wasn’t sure about the format, but it read it just fine. It also transferred and displayed SD card data and USB drives just five (photos and graphics, as well as PDFs and Word documents). It’s portable, solidly built, has lots of ports/connectivity, and it has quick performance. In sum, it’s a handy multifunction tool that I expect will be quite reliable.

Glad I chose this…it’s nicely versatile!

This listing doesn’t have a lot of detail, so I’ll try to fill in the blanks.First, it’s more than a drive. It’s a USB hub, an optical media drive, and an SD/MicroSD reader, all in one!!I’d suggest using the USB-A to barrel adaptor to add a power source. Any phone charger will do. The kit includes a MicroSD to SD adapter, which actually doesn’t appear to be needed since there is both an SD and a MicroSD slot on the back of the unit. It’s plug and play. On my Windows 10 system, it just works. For this price, it does the job of three separate items, all of which would cost about the same thing that this single unit does. Man, you cannot beat that value proposition. Five easy stars!!

This is amazing as long as you have Windows,My Mac does not have a CD player and we had an MRI we needed to look at.The player does not seem to work with Mac operating systems. It also has the USB plug but it also has the USB-C but it is stored in the bottom of the player.

    It works quite well

Being a USB C drive it is not as fast as a internal drive so remember that. It reads rather fast and it does wright a cd. the size is normal for the drive, and it has 4 usb ports with a card reader and a micro card reader adapter. This is a good buy and should serve you will for years to come.

    Nice

This Optical drive will read/write DVD’s and CD’s. It has a built in usb cable that has both usb-c and usb-a ends. It comes with another power cable just in case your device isn’t capable of delivering enough power over just the built in cable.I’m using this drive with Windows 10 pro and an older probook and I’ve had no problems and no drivers to install. I plugged it in and it just works. I’d recommend this drive and I’m glad I chose it.

    Works Great

The External CD Drive has proven to be a lifesaver for my laptop lacking an internal disc drive. Its USB 3.0 connectivity ensures fast data transfer, and it flawlessly reads and writes DVDs and CDs. The drive is incredibly portable, making it ideal for on-the-go use, and its compatibility with various devices has made it an indispensable addition to my tech setup. I’m thoroughly satisfied with its performance, making it a reliable choice for anyone in need of an external CD/DVD drive.

    Nice DVD and CD writer

This is a very nice optical drive! Since my new laptop doesn’t have an optical drive, I got this one. It reads and writes to both DVD and CD. I still like saving copies of videos and pictures, so I like burning them to disc drives. I really like this one, especially since it’s pretty much plug and play.

    Does the job

I bought this to download the dvds from the disposable cameras we had at our wedding. It’s extremely sensitive to any movement and needs to be on a flat and smooth surface or the dvd/cd will stop spinning

Beware It won’t work on Win10 pr 11 Also missing all connectors

The device arrived without any data cables. Requires usb to usb. Amazon cannot help supply missing materials and only offers a return. Had to purchase a usb 3 cable and finally lights came on, but nothing registered on laptops or desktops. Thank goodness for Amazon return policy. BUYER BEWARE on this device.

This is so old, it was made in 2006, Just so you know and bad directions.

just look at the program file, it don’t come with a play software and don’t have a brand name on it other than the blue ray logo and it was not made by blue ray, just has the rights to read it. This was at least 50 too much when it’s old 2006 file is on it, and off brand and no software to load. Also very bad directions and amazon don’t offer a video for it on their page. As well, the directions says it wont even read some of what it claims to read in certain common programs files that play dvd’s on the web that you will have to add to the pc.

This thing is AMAZING! LOW cost, but LOADED with features!

I ordered this because I couldn’t believe it would work because it cost so little! The included “manual” is everything BUT a manual, but everything is pretty much self explanatory. I saw four USB ports on the top of the back edge. I spent almost an hour finding a USB cable that would go from my computer’s USB port to one of the USB ports on the back edge.Nothing… I waited. STILL nothing. Then I happened to pick it up to see if I could figure the problem out. Imagine my chagrin when I saw a USB cable tucked into the BOTTOM of the drive. So I said to myself, “Self, you’re an idiot!!”Well, I plugged that cable in, and the magic began! All I had was a 10 year rewritable DVD. I loaded up trusty dusty old Nero. To my VAST surprise Nero erased the disk! Then I tried copying some files to the drive. Well, it took a while. It was writing at 2X. Slow. Don’t know if that;s because I was using a rewritable DVD. But it WORKED! I enjoyed some of my favorite songs, then tried a movie. IT WORKED! WOW!Then I noticed a slot on the back. Looked like it was made for a SD chip. It WAS! I had no problem reading the SD drive. I had no problem WRITING to the SD chip, too! Then I said to myself, “Self, what IS this thing?” I see 3 USB 2.0 slots and one 3.0 slot. So I said “Self, could that possibly be a built in USB hub?” I stuck in a cable to my phone, and sure enough, it DOES have a built in USB hub!Since my old computer doesn’t have a card reader, I REALLY appreciate its built in card reader. Now my horizons are expanded! I can now use all those SD cards I have lying around! What a refreshing surprise this drive is! I needed more USB ports. I discovered it has a built in USB hub! Now I have FOUR more USB ports! I can even stop using my old USB 2.0 port expander and hook an external hard drive up. So I did. And danged if the hard drive didn’t work too!I can’t believe this drive is so capable, and offers so many options I really needed on my old Windows XP computer!II can heartily recommend this drive to you. It is a STEAL OF A DEAL! It might be a little slow on writing DVDs but I REALLY didn’t believe it would work at all! And EVERYTHING works! If you’re low on cash, give this drive a try. You will be amazed too! When I get my camera working (sigh) I will add pictures showing my connections. I’m REALLY happy I bought this drive, especially the card reader and the extra handy USB ports it offers seamlessly!Like I said, this is a steal of a deal! It works on Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 10 without any problems. Each automatically detected and installed the drive. Nice!11/1/23 I thought this was slow at recording, but I was wrong. I recorded an audio CD tonight at 24X. That makes this as fast as my high dollar DVD recorder. Not bad at all!

    Just what I needed!

I am absolutely thrilled with my external CD drive! It has been a game-changer for me in so many ways. From the moment I unboxed it, I was impressed by its sleek and compact design, which makes it incredibly portable and easy to carry around. The build quality is top-notch, and it feels sturdy and well-made. This external CD drive has exceeded my expectations in every aspect, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. The main reason I decided to buy this external CD drive was to revive my extensive collection of old CDs and DVDs. I had been longing to access my cherished music albums, vintage software, and long-forgotten home videos. This device has proven to be the perfect solution, allowing me to effortlessly connect it to my laptop and revisit my digital memories. The drive’s high-speed data transfer and compatibility with a wide range of formats have made the process of ripping, burning, and playing CDs a breeze. It has breathed new life into my digital library. One of the standout features of this external CD drive is its plug-and-play simplicity. It required no additional software or complicated installations. Just plug it into a USB port, and it’s ready to use. The drive’s silent operation is another plus, as I can enjoy my music and videos without any distracting noise. If you’re in need of a reliable and versatile external CD drive, I highly recommend this one. It’s a fantastic addition to my tech arsenal, and I couldn’t be more pleased with its performance and value for the price.
