Best scanner I’ve ever used, definitely worth the buy
This scanner is AMAZING! Definitely worth the money (though I would definitely wait to buy this when it goes back down to $89.99, cuz it jumps up to $100+ & back down to $89.99 like weekly). I had been using printers with scanning capability prior to this product, & they were the biggest pain in the butt to use. They were slow, not user friendly, confusing to use, etc. This scanner has a small learning curve like with anything. I did have to make an Epson account & actually had to install the app for the ES-50 on my laptop to get it to work (I have a MacBook Pro), according to the manual you’re supposed to just be able to start scanning something & it’ll pop up on your computer but mine wouldn’t do that (mine wouldn’t scan at all till I had the app installed on my computer & made the Epson account) so I had to go through the hassle of installing the app on my laptop first & making an Epson account. But once I had that done it worked like a charm. This scanner has cut down the time I spend scanning in half, it’s amazing. I love that you can save the scans to Google Drive, or just go ahead & email the scans, & a bunch of other options cuz with the printers I use to use for scanning you only had the option to email the scans to yourself & you had to transfer them to like Google Drive or wherever you wanted to save them & it was so annoying & a pain & added so much extra time onto the process. I also love how lightweight & small the scanner is. The only thing I wish this scanner did have was like an extendable arm to catch the pages once they go through the scanner, like printers have, cuz then this product would be absolutely perfect.

Set up is a breeze
I was very hesitant to spend so much money on this but glad I did. This scanner is small and compact but scans quickly. Once you install the software off the website you hook up the scanner and load your page into the scanner and press the button and it pops up on your computer. Downfall you have to scan each paper one at a time. Pleased for the money spent

Sturdy, scans weird formats easily
I’ve purchased 3 of these things: one for my own personal use, one for a family member, and one for work. This thing is a champ. I scanned over a thousand different items (ranging from 1 to over 100 pages each) with it at work (including a few things that I definitely shouldn’t have tried to send through it) before it finally developed a “gray line” that shows up on everything – but that’s just the one at work. I’ve dropped my own on the floor (hard) several times and it’s still fine. Great for scanning receipts, packing slips, and any sort of obnoxious, non-8×11″ item that you’ll find in a box or cut out of a notebook. Even sticky notes (yes, I’ve needed to digitize these).I don’t know how well the wireless version and its accompanying software work. I’ve only used it hard-wired with its PC software. The software is pretty easy to use and handy for creating either .PDF or image files. 5/5, will keep using until it dies (if it ever dies) and will buy again.

This thing is amazing.
When you need one, you need one. We had some contract stuff to do while on vacation. This was a life saver. Works great. Super simple. Never knew a portable scanner was even a thing. It’s awesome. Using it at home now. Hadn’t needed tech support because it’s so simple and reliable.

I have a paper problem—This is the solution!
IMPRESSED! This was EXACTLY what I needed! Set up is easy. The USB connection is so convenient. It scans fast and clear. Saving files is simple. It is easy to scan multiple pages, delete pages that do not scan well, and even rearrange scanned pages if you desire. If you need to get rid of those stacks of paper but want to be able to reference the information later…this scanner will be your new best friend!

A centerpiece of my job
This scanner is very helpful to me in my job as I need most of the time to scan receipts and A4 papers to keep my work going on as a project engineer.I used it too in scanning my apartment lease contract .. when I bought it I refused to reimburse its price from the company that I work for as I wanted to keep it after the project goes to its end.It is very easy to setup and use nothing hard nice quality of scanned pages and receipts. What I am missing is a portable scanner that can scan A3 or 11×17 inches drawings and after a long search I could not find my dream product in any brand or make.So satisfied with my purchase and happy despite of my wife blaming me for buying only a scanner for almost $100 but we men who only know the value of a centerpiece of technology like this.Simple, fast, easy, portable and I hope it would be durable as long as possible as I use it in work site with dust and harsh environment so I bought a hard case for it.

I love it! Easy to use!
This is the best scanner I have purchased! It is so easy to use. I don’t have to wait for the machine to go up and down like a flatbed scanner. Just insert the paper/card/receipt, push the button and ta da.. its done. Easy to scan multiple pages and add to the pdf.

Better Than Brothers!
Since Brothers didn’t have an update to the driver for their [similar] desktop scanner, I had to go find a new one. So I chose the Epson. It was a good choice. The software and interaction are much better than the Brothers scanner. Ease of use is tops and performance and quality of scan is very good. Keep in mind all these companies only go so far with updating their drivers and eventually won’t support it anymore. This occurs for me roughly 3 years. It’s the sign of the times I guess. So far the Epson is a good choice!

Does a great job for what it is.
Like others, I found a mountain of photos after my mother died. Many old family pictures that I couldn’t just discard but took up a lot of room. I bought this to scan and save those photos to a smaller package. Works well for the purpose. For color photos this unit is great. It’s fast, easy to use, portable. Software has very basic controls for adjusting image quality. One big caveat, it does NOT work on old, glossy, black and white photos. Hard to explain the effect but the image itself is only black and white with no grayscale so everything is washed out. Having to use an old, slow, flatbed scanner for these.Overall I’m happy with my purchase. Pretty good value for what it offers.

Perfect smol scanner
I occasionally have to submit assignments electronically, and I’m typically on the go all over campus, don’t have easy access to a scanner, have poor picture quality with my phone, and occasionally have to show handwritten notes. This scanner is perfect and convenient because not only is it simple to plug into my laptop and scan to legible pdf in a handful of seconds, but this this is so light and compact that I don’t even notice I’m carrying it – it fits in a small zipper compartment of my backpack, or rests next to my notebooks. It requires a few minutes of initial setup when you get it, but its pretty self-explanatory (your laptop will likely search for the drivers you need automatically.)

Great purchase!
I almost didn’t by this but was going to use a free scanning app on my phone. I tried the app and it was such a pain to get the lighting right and to get a good scan. This thing is super easy to set up and scans great. Really loved it for turning in online school assignments.

Very portable and relatively easy to use.
I like this little scanner. The software is a bit odd. The computer immediately recognizes that the scanner is attached, but the software doesn’t detect it immediately. Don’t worry, it all comes together. And it’s fast enough. You obviously have to go one page at a time, but the software keeps adding them until you go to save. So you can scan all the pages separately but they’ll save together as one document and you can save them where you want. I do have trouble with it not talking to my printer, but my printer has a bad attitude. My office is virtual, so I enjoy the portability. I do recommend this one if your trying to decide between brands. I’ve really has no trouble and it’s been several months.

It works.
I am a Neat Cloud user and this scanner works, just not integrated with Neat Receipts or Quick books online in a streamlined ways (meaning it takes a lot move keystrokes to get tasks done).Included software from Epson is marginal but it works as well if you get the inference.Would I purchase again? Small, works after Epson software is installed. Good price. So only from that perspective yes. After that consider the software applications and reduction of effort to accomplish tasks (scan receipts directly to quickbooks online to attach to transactions). If you do this a good deal of every day – buy a Fujitsu Scanjet (I have this as well). (not affiliated with Fujitsu).

Don’t buy this scanner.
Great scanner at first. After 5 months quit working. Epson, after hours on phone, sent a refurbished one that had not worked properly since I received it. After long sessions with tech support that could not resolve the issue, they indicated they could do nothing else but send me to repair shop and I would be responsible for charges. I am purchasing another portable scanner from a different company. When this product works it’s great. But that will not last.

Awesome product
I had previously used my computer for scanning documents, however, each year I had to remind myself of the steps needed for the scanning process. If I purchased a new printer, or if I updated my router, everything had to be updated before making a connection between the printer, phone and computer. I noticed an employee in my doctor’s office scanning my healthcare card, and I saw how easy it was, and then and there I decided to purchase a portable scanner. Best decision I have made in some time. It took less than 10 minutes to connect to my computer, and create a file for these documents to be saved. Now it takes seconds to scan and file. Year-end scanning of healthcare documents for reimbursement has never been easier! I will not have to go through the bother of remembering the steps to scan, but simply connect the scanner to my computer. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a portable scanner.

A Much Smaller Footprint
After losing my parents, there were loads of photographs left behind (as my father was a print photographer for most of his life). The pictures were in frames, phonebooks and just hidden in drawers everywhere. My family didn’t want to keep them, as most were falling apart, and since there were many of us, I purchased this scanner to scan and re-distribute. I chose it for its dpi’s and was glad I did.At first, the software was not working well with my Mac, then I realized I installed older software, so I uninstalled and reinstalled.I used the software that came with it, from Epson.com. It was ok, but ver ‘PC’ oriented and clunky.I scanned over 675 pictures, and created a much smaller footprint for us to navigate. One issued I did have is that the button on the scanner stopped working (and I was in the middle of a large batch), but the button on the screen worked. After I finished a batch of files, I uninstalled and reinstalled (hence removing a star from my review). I’m hoping that doesn’t happen for the next batch.

I have a MacBook Air and it was a quick install. You can only feed one page at a time but it does give you the option to send all the pages in one PDF.Cheaper than buying a new printer since ours does not have a scanner.

Absolutely no support whatsoever!
It is NOT easy to set up. It is NOT easy to use. It’s always a hassle trying to find the software and getting the software to recognize the scanner. It would be so nice if it was just accompanied by a little bit of support. But the support from the company is really just incredibly horrible! Also the side port where the USB plugs in is “inset” into the unit so it is really difficult to get the plug inserted properly. It seems like every time I use this I’m struggling to fit the USB cord into the scanner. Once you get it working, it does a good job. I just wish I hadn’t purchased one from this manufacturer. They really don’t seem to be concerned about Customer Service at all.

Scan quality good, no support for profiles and automation
I use to have a Visioneer that was completely automated from feed to saving a file in specified location. But thought I would try a different brand since the driver was no longer supported for WIN 11. The Epson ES-50 is a good scanner but the software interface requires too many clicks and cannot be setup to auto feed and save files in specified format or location. In addition you have to press a button on the scanner to get it activated, then feed the paper through, then select save, add filename, select save again. The software then closes automatically and if you want to scan another file you must start all over. Scan quality good, no support for profiles and automation.

Works great, until it doesn’t
The scan button on the device itself just up and stopped working someday. Have to press the scan button in the software. Epson’s site offers no useful support for this problem. It’s full of advice one would give a digital immigrant in the 1990s – “Is it plugged in?”. Ridiculous. Moral of the story, if you buy this unit and the button stops working, there is no solution, so don’t waste any of your valuable time googling for it. I’ve already done that for you. You’re welcome. 😀

Very Impressed
I’ve only used this scanner for a short time, but I’m very impressed. My new laser printer doesn’t have a scanning capability, and I need to scan documents at times. I’ve been running over to a friend’s house to use her scanner, but I needed one in my house without spending a lot of money. I’ve used small scanners like this in the past, so I didn’t expect much. However, I was surprised. It’s very easy to use, scans quickly, and allows me to save the scan, and attach it to an email, as well as other options. The Epson software is well designed, and at setup, I was provided two other software features to download: one allows me to password-protect a PDF, and the other allows me to scan one. If after using this scanner for a longer period of time I find issues, I’ll update my review.

Easy to use and set up
We have a multi-function printer, but it’s at the opposite end of the house from my office and it has to have the lid lifted between each sheet. This scanner is fast and it’s easy to add pages for a multi-page document – just keep scanning until you’re ready to save it. There are multiple options for where/how to save also. Whew! I don’t know why I didn’t get this sooner. One thing, you need to be careful how you feed items or it tends to pull a bit and leave a sliver of black in the upper left corner. It isn’t an issue for me, but just be aware if you’re scanning something important where that would be an issue.

They work as advertised! worth the money
I like this portable scanner. I have had no issues with it and no network problems so I have not had to call for software help. It WORKS very well and it’s very responsive even when used on Macbook products. Would i recommend it? Yes! Need for improvement? Yes. The only issue I have with this is the charging port. It is so deep inside the machine that it makes it hard to charge at times, and I’m afraid that since it’s a very deep USB port, I may damage it and the machine won’t work anymore; just like when a phone doesn’t plug anymore. I just leave the USB plugged in and try not to take it off as much. So other than that USB cord issue I have not had any issues with the product thus far. I will update if issues arise to warm the masses.

Very small, convenient scanner, but not for the OCD-inclined.
For years I have used flatbed scanners, but after moving, I ended up getting this one because it was inexpensive and small. It works well, once you get used to it, and I would definitely recommend it for the laptop generation, where size is super important. The only thing I don’t like about it, is that it is hard to get things to scan really straight. You have to kind of jam the paper in, and then hit the scan button which will trigger the motor pulling it through. Often it would get slightly angled, and I would end up re-scanning, to get a better image. If that sort of thing doesn’t bother you, it’s great. If you don’t mind re-scanning, it’s fine. If you want to get things perfectly lined up, you probably want something else.

Usually doesn’t work, but great when it occasionally does
___My typical experience using the scanner: press the button and nothing happens. There is only one button, which should start the scan. When pressed, the light does not change, there is no error message, no loading message to tell me it felt the button press. No reaction.Having one everything-button is frustrating because I can’t troubleshoot, experiment, or look for a workaround by interacting with it differently. The issue: Windows (or the included software program) doesn’t see the device, or sees it as permanently “busy”. I sometimes get a notification saying the scanner is seen and ready to receive paper, but still doesn’t respond. My solution has been to plug/unplug the scanner, or restart the computer and try to scan the instant the desktop appears, or after waiting a while … every time I need to scan something. No one plan works every time. Sometimes it takes many repetitions to work. I haven’t found a pattern yet. This is worth mentioning before anything else, because it happens so often that the average person would think the software/driver is defective and get a refund.I don’t scan very often, so I might be willing to be patient if the repetitions-needed don’t get worse, but I’m close to considering a refund.___As for the times it does work: it’s mostly great.+Very tiny, great portability+Scans quick+Really good software: Simple if you want simple, (reasonably) customizable if you want that.+Lots of save options, variable image resolution, more settings than I need+Automatic file type and size detection.(It can extract text like titles and dates and apply them to the file name, but it doesn’t work often enough to trust it in my experience. Not a big deal though. YMMV)+Scan very long receipts. It has a length limit, but it’s the longest I saw in its scanner category, and enough for my needs. You can increase the max length by lowering the image resolution.(-)Hard to guide paper in. Scanner feed hole has no tray to guide the paper in, AND the paper detection is so far forward that I’ve had to pull the paper fully out and hold the paper floating in the air as I aim it back in. Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like threading a needle with floppy string.(-)Paper is fed slightly crooked sometimes. It seems the motor is pulling only on one side, so you can imagine the paper often rotates enough to create smudged images, especially on long documents.(-) [Not confirmed by me] One suggestion I saw (seemingly from Epson) to fix the driver problems, was roughly “you should only use the exact same USB cable that was included with the scanner, not another identical one”. That seems like a silly idea, but it appears to have solved some peoples’ issue, so it may point to a glaring red flag in the scanner’s design.Knowing that my scanner may be unusable if I lose this exact one cable that should be a Universal cable…I can’t confirm or deny this, but it’s yet another uncomfortable thing about this device to think about.Overall, I can’t recommend it because it is hard to get working, but if you somehow manage to solve that problem, it’s a very solid scanner with some imperfections, which may or may not matter depending on your taste.

Not crisp scans
While I appreciate the space saving device, and the fact that it was easy to set up and use, I find the scans are not crisp. I can have a perfectly good sheet of paper, dark ink and white backdrop that will scan faded and light. Or the text can be smooth and clean, but the scan shows jagged text. Makes no sense.

Incredible Portable Scanner
I had another portable scanner for years, but it finally broke. This one is even better! I am not a tech person at all, so I was concerned about uploading the drivers, but it could not have been simpler. I logged into the address in the instructions, and everything downloaded. Any prompts were very clear. Even while downloading, I was prompted to try to scan a sheet as a check, and it worked perfectly. The directions it came with are very clear! Since downloading I have scanned about 20 sheets and they are perfect. It asks where I want to put the document (there are many choices) and what I want to name it. I could go on and on, but believe me, especially if you are technology impaired like me, this is the portable scanner for you!

Mac Compatible, doesn’t appear to scan straight
I purchased this because I desperately needed a new printer to print something, and the only one available was a wireless printers/scanner that *only* lets you scan through their app if you have an account – really sending up red flags for me if one were scanning sensitive documents! So I splurged and got this as well. Is it small and portable? Yes. Did it work easily with my macbook pro? Also yes.My main problem is nothing scans it straight. It’s great if you’re wanted to make sure you have copies of mail or receipts (I suggest tapping to an 8.5×11 regular sheet of paper), but if you want an aligned document without a small black line on the top left edge of the paper? Not your device. Yes you can crop, but it never quite looks right.Anyway. It’s a decent little device and does what I need for record keeping! Just not perfect with the alignment. One other note: I scanned a document I had printed that I needed to sign, and wanted a copy of said signature on this document. The whole thing is just…not the greatest quality? Looks kind of dated. Can’t really explain it. Really picked up the ink details which I guess is good, but visually looked low quality.Buy if: You want something easy that gives you a bunch of options to upload to computer, onedrive, email, etc. Also great for record keeping that doesn’t really need perfection at the end of the day. Also allows for cropping and adjustments in the software.Don’t buy if: You desire straight, 8.5×11 documents. She doesn’t play that way!

Super Easy to Setup, Configure and Use – Love It !!
In the beginning I did want a flatbed scanner since in my experience they do a nice job with documents plus you can scan old photos too. But my main purpose was to have the ability to scan documents I needed to sign and send electronically. I was able to do that in less than 15 minutes from the un-boxing.Now to be fair when you use a feed type scanner, documents do not come out as straight and perfect like they can in a flat bed scanner, but for my purposes it is perfectly fine. It will scan pretty much anything you can run through the feeder. And what I like it it takes up no space. I keep it in the box and when I need it, I just plug in the USB cable, windows recognizes it, and I have my scans done in minutes. You can download the software for the unit, but you can also scan just using Windows if you need something simple. It does take some time to feed the documents in and all that, but for me that is not a problem. Normally I just need to scan one page, sign it, and send it as a PDF attachment in an email. It is a real compact solidly built unit which does not surprise me based on my past history with Epson products. I can definitely recommend this unit for someone needing a simple to use scanner. If you need portability, this one is a solid contender at this price point.I purchased this scanner after buying another, less expensive, flatbed scanner which was a real disappointment. If you are in the market for a scanner, make sure and read my other review. Chances are if your budget is similar you will be looking at similar units.

Great scanner, but…
I bought this scanner because I have a desktop all-in-one printer/scanner and while it works great, it is VERY SLOW – especially with high resolution items. So I took a chance on the Epson Workforce ES-50 Portable Sheet-fed Document Scanner for PC and Mac. I purchased it as a refurbished item . It was very easy to set up and to use. It worked great scanning a ton of pictures in less time than I had imagined. Then, I started to get lines in my scans. Then the pictures started to fade. Then, blank scans were all I was receiving.I returned it and purchased a brand new one (exact same item) . I was able to get 2 scans before it started giving me blank scans. Needless to say I was very frustrated. However, I would like to point out that I have a Dell Laptop and I had an Epson printer in the past and I had a multitude of problems with the printer. I could not get it to work with my laptop. But, I wanted to cover all my bases, so I called tech support even after I tried everything to get the scanner to work: cleaned it, calibrated it, installed, uninstalled, re-installed, shut the system down and turned it on again and again. – nothing worked. So when I went through all the steps (multiple times) with tech support. I was very disappointed when the scanner still did not work. BTW Tech support was AWESOME! Polite, knowledgeable, and easy to understand. He agreed that there was an issue with the item and told me to return it. I dropped it off at UPS – I LOVE Amazon’s no hassle returns! And now I am in the process of trying to find the perfect scanner for me.I want to emphasize that the Epson Workforce ES-50 Portable Sheet-fed Document Scanner for PC and Mac is in NO WAY an inferior product. It just so happened that my laptop and the scanner just were not compatible. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. But, if you have a Dell PC/laptop, you may have issues. For anyone one else, this is the perfect little scanner for those really big jobs! Lightweight, portable, and SUPER easy to use with GREAT results. I scanned almost 1,000 pictures in a matter of hours at a 1200 dpi. Each picture was beautiful and since they were a high resolution, I had no problem editing. It also has a great feature where you can scan 2 items and “stitch” them together. So, if you are considering a small portable scanner, check this one out – even refurbished worked excellent and well worth the price!

Love This!
One of the problems with working from home is not being able to scan or fax. I could have bought an All-In-One, I didn’t want to purchase another printer just to be able to scan.Simple to use…just plug into a USB port, insert paper and push the button. Software opens up automatically and I can scan as many pages as I want. When done, I just save it and then I can email the PDF to the office or client.Highly recommend.

Exactly what I was looking for
Number One: Easy setup! I’m anything but a tech guru so the easy setup was a blessing for me. It has been performing flawlessly ever since. I bought this because the “all-in-one” printer connected to my desktop pc was no longer functioning as a scanner. This runs independently and it’s surprisingly fast. I love it!

the size is great and it works well with cards.
this is my second scanner I have bought. I like it very much. It works easier than the other one I have. the size of it makes it easier to store. Instructions that came with it were okay once I was able to decipher them.

Works great!
Plug it in and it works like a charm. The best part is we can travel with it when needed. Small and compact, doesn’t take up much space at all.

Justo lo que necesitaba
Soy agente de seguros y no siempre estoy en la oficina. Realmente este scanner es bueno y rapido y me ahorra mucho tiempo en el proceso de digitalizar los documentos que me firman mis clientes.
