Very easy to use with a MAC
I was worried that I would have problems connecting this scanner with my MAC OS. No problem at all. It works well, scanned picture quality is very good. I am pleased.

Easy to use
I was searching for a budget friendly scanner that wouldn’t take up too much space and found this item! It’s not too expensive, and scanning my timesheets for work has never been so much easier! Plus with options to file as pdf, email, etc. if you’re looking for a basic scanner that will scan most documents (bar special papers like legal or anything bigger than standard 8.5 X 11), then this is a good scanner to grab. It’s USB connected and can be disconnected when not in use. It’s light in weight as well.

Artists Use Caution
While this scanner is GREAT at delivering quality line-art scans, it’s definitely lacking when it comes to colored images. I’ve attached photos of a quick drawing I did for the purpose of showing what I mean. I like the brightness and clarity the scanner brings, but I have that it decreases the saturation and contrast of the image. The actual machine itself works nicely, it’s quick, it has many different settings for documents, photographs, line-art and colored illustrations, etc. It does make a horrendous noise while it’s scanning, but other reviews have pointed out the same thing and from what I can tell, it’s no issue. The USB connection also makes this scanner portable and easy to use and install. Now, yes, I realize this scanner was not made explicitly for art, but I was expecting a little better, since photographs have the same amount of color. I have not scanned a photo myself yet, but the quality of my art scans makes a little unsure of how it will come out when I do.Pros:Speed of scanningEase of usePriceClarity of scanned imagesUSB connectionCompatible with Windows 10Cons:NoiseColor-loss and contrast-loss of imagesNo way to turn it off without disconnecting itOverall, it’s a nice little scanner, especially for the price, with some scanner going for upwards of two hundred dollars. If you’re looking to get into art professionally, I would spend a little more to get something of a higher caliber, but if you’re just planning on using this for a hobby, or to scan documents, etc, this scanner should suit you fine.

Grrrrrr!!!
I’ve had this scanner for more than a year. I only use it every couple of months and it’s gotten to the point where I start to have anxiety attacks when I want to scan something. Unfortunately, I didn’t use it until after the 30 day return window had closed, so I’m stuck with this frustrating piece of junk.I purchased this scanner to replace my old $39 Cannon printer/scanner. The Cannon printer had awful print quality, but scanning was straight forward and worked EVERY time to produce high quality color accurate scans.Since day one, I’ve had problems with this Epson scanner on my Windows laptop because my laptop fails to recognize the scanner even though it’s plugged in and the light is on. (I had this problem on my old computer with Windows 10 and now with my Windows 11 computer.) It used to be a matter of unplugging and repluging the USB cable repeatedly until I happened to get lucky. For the past 6 months, unplugging/ replugging doesn’t work. The ONLY way I can get my computer to recognize the scanner is to go to the Epson website and reinstall the drivers. Like I don’t have anything better to do…Although the Epson V19 has color adjustments as part of the preview function, the scans are fuzzy regardless of DPI, and color is ALWAYS so far off from the original that I have to endlessly waste my time playing with the color adjustments to even get close to the original color.I will NEVER AGAIN purchase another Epson product!

Lots of bang for the bucks
I read a bunch f reviews and decided on the Eoon scanner as opposed to the Canon. I think I made the right deision. The scanner is not fast, but has really nice quality for rhe price. It is very handy and takes little space. I am very pleased with this scanner,

Not fancy, works great
This is an updated version of my previous Epson Perfection bed scanner. The device is simplicity itself, works as advertised, and if my experience with my first scanner is any indication, this one will work happily for the next decade. If you need a decent device for occasional scanning it is hard to beat.

3 Stars with isssues, deceptive advertising and description. Works but there are concerns.
The Epson name is well recognized in this house been buying their products for along time. This however falls short of quality and Epson should be ashamed of such false descriptions and adverting. There was some real stupid things done in this scanner build that Epson should know better.Pros:Small footprintEasy install on Windows 7 Other reviews show varied issues.Sturdy enough and light weight easy to have on any desk.Scans old photos well and fast seems the auto feature does a good job.No power supply needed.Several users experience option, auto, home, office and pro.Cons:Software is old school like 1990’s maybe its adds stability but bad interface.I am old school tech so I could care less but pretty clunky software.NO POWER on off you must unplug the usb stupid idea as over time you will wear out the cable why would they not put a simple on off.Misleading description its not just powered by USB, it requires the PC’s USB. I thought it might scan to an SD card but is iffy on description.Scans in ten seconds, yes if grey scale and low res, very very very misleading high res scan takes 7-9 minutes and is why loss of stars major for that.Kick stand ins cheap plastic and why it helps save space it will break in time poor design.Over all the the scanner scans and does well enough, I paid 65.00 fair enough for a scanner that scans.Epson should get their hand slapped for puffing the description and facts. It is not a 10 second scanner its more like a 1-2 minute for a photo longer for full page and high res is way longer, shame on you Epson. The kick stand they advertise saves space is cheap and wont last. The hinges for the scanner are also cheap cheap plastic.I bought this to do a bunch of photos and the ten second scan was why I bought this, it will take longer to do the scans now,Picture scan quality for me is good. Software works well enough for very old school software. No on/off switch is just lazy design no reason to not have a off switch. The scanner is not for the professional, its for the here and there sometimes scanner.I would have returned it but it does work on win 7 just fine. Its annoying but works.

a decent scanner
It’s getting difficult to find a newer designed scanner and even when you do, the software is of an old design. This Epson isn’t too bad, and probably at the price point is about as good as you’ll get, unless you’re willing to spend nearly $1000.The hardware is decent, still uses the old USB 2.0, and mini connector. No USB C, or 3.x. Let’s face it, it’s old technology. This is pretty much the same tech from the early 2000s, but the housing is thinner, and now uses LEDs as a light source vs. CCFL.The scanner’s software is something from the late 1990s, it works, but it’s buggy. I’m using on both MacOS and Windows 11. It’s clunky, and not too stable on the Apple computer. (the driver will eventually crash, and you’ll need to reboot your Mac to recover). There’s no support for iPad, and no wireless. The software is decent for color adjustments, and picture restoration, but needs more advanced controls. I guess you can always save a .tif and adjust in 16 bit mode in photoshop or something. The scanner hardware is basic. It does not do slides, and you can’t clean the inside glass without disassembling the unit. Sooner or later, this glass will need cleaning. It has function buttons on the outside, which are totally useless. (and have been on ever scanner ever made). Push them, they do nothing. Why do they bother? If you’re looking for a scanner for photos, this is the one to get. Hopefully, one day, there will be better options.

Scanner does work – discovered a bad USB port on my PC
Updated reviewI was incorrect in my first review.I did everything the trouble shooting instructions suggested and nothing seem to work, but then I moved the USB wire to another USB port and the scanner worked perfectly.Sorry Epson, please accept mu apologies.____________________________________________________I used this scanner a few times and found it to be sufficient – scan mostly documents.I used it three times and left it alone for a couple of months.I plugged the scanner back in and blue ligh starts blinking. I researched all of the fixes, reloaded the scanner softwar, but I’m getting the same error message and unable to scan. This is the last Epson product I’m buying.

Great quality easy to use.
Well I had an Epson scanner for two decades and it finally gave up the ghost so I got this one. Just cuz I needed a scan some printed artwork when I like is that it’s all one cord super easy to deal with. My favorite feature that you can take off the lid especially if you’re scanning odd sizes or maybe even prints that are attached to something physical in my case arcade machines. And I know everything these days is cheap and flimsy but relatively speaking this felt pretty meaty not too heavy of course but it didn’t feel like it was going to break by me just touching it. Highly recommend

Great Scanner
This scanner was exactly what I needed. It doesn’t use a power supply and instead, the USB that is included just plugs into the PC. It’s very lightweight and easy to use. I had quite a few pictures from years ago that I wanted to get on a flash drive. I scanned them all with no issues, and also scanned some documents. The scans come out pretty clearly as well. Would definitely recommend this item.

Just one negative quirk
This is an impressive flat-bed scanner. Easy hook up with just one usb cord, no power cord. scans photos and documents very well and I’m overall pleased with it except for one quirk. There is no on/off switch! The scanner “boots up” when I turn on the computer and it stays on for ready use. If I don’t use it for a time period then it turns off by itself. After it turns itself off – if I need to use it – there is no way to turn it on. It’s off! I finally resorted to rebooting the computer and then the scanner “boots up” by itself, ready for use, and stays on until it decides to turn itself off again. Kind of a pain, but a minor inconvenience.

This just worked.
Took it out of the box. Plugged it in. Installed its drivers. And it just worked. For what I do, it’s just fine. Most of what I scan are just documents, with no special needs or required quality. But once in a while, I want to scan in a photo and I want a good, high res result. This is so much better than my last scanner (that was well over a decade old when it finally died) that I kind of wish it had failed earlier.

Incapable of scanning certain black and white photos
I wanted a portable scanner, to scan family documents and photos. The first photo I chose came out like a very bad, old Xerox – dark and barely visible. Another 2 black and white were “ok”. Scanned document is “ok”, legible but a little grainy. For the price, I can’t expect high quality though. Will try it a but, but not yet sure if I am going to return it for something better.

Easy to use and very versatile
I pulled this from the box and setup was very easy. It loads the driver and interface and grabs power off USB so no extra large power pack needed. Not as heavy duty as my old flatbed, but then again I am not sure anything is these days. I would still be using it except the drivers will not go past Windows XP.What I like about this is…I can set 4-5 pictures on the bed and it scans them as separates! Just make sure you have a small gap in between them. So after scanning about 500 pics the 1st day, I was impressed. No bad noises. Quiet, and has several scan methods and graphics settings. The ONLY dislike I have is that the scan interface disappears after each scan so you have to select the icon again for each set of scans. I have not yet found a workaround for that in the menu system.I ‘could’ have dropped a star for that but its a minor detail. Does not affect the quality and function of the scanner. For what I paid, it already paid for itself in a day. Plus it is very light so unplugging the USB and storing it is easy.I recommend this. long term reliability I cannot speak of. I have had it for a few months and it’s fine.

USB interface was very slow and at times was not seen by software
Both my macs are running 10.11.6, the scanner requires 10.5 or newer. On system did not see the scanner. The other scanned approximately 12 photos and they were saved. Then after 6 scans, the software locked up. Killed the processes unplugged the USB and reconnected. Software locked up again. Warm reboot of the computer, made sure no other apps were running, and after 4 or 5 scans the software locked up again. I boxed up the scanner and returned it.The scanner was very very slow. A 3″ x 5″ photo took 65 seconds (I timed it) to complete a scan. You can scan multiple before saving. There is no option in the software to auto-save and the save process is lame (it was 3 or 4 clicks whether 1 photo or multiple). I had a printer/scanner 15 years ago that was faster.

Fast Scanning & Saving for 1 or Multiple Images/Pages
I love the stand and the ability to scan 1 image/page or multiple images/pages at a time. Set up was a breeze. Saving the images/documents is also very easy. So far so good. To date, my only dissatisfaction is with Amazon for not sending it in an Amazon Box as requested (that’s why there are 4 stars & not 5). The item was sent in the manufacturer’s box and the box was unsealed when I received it. Thank goodness none of the contents of the box were missing. I purchased this scanner because Epson is a quality rated brand in the printer industry. Hope this review helps someone.

Dies After 10 Days; Randomly Crashes on Windows; Will Require Complete SYSTEM RESTART to Fix
The media could not be loaded.
***FIFTY-FOURTH DAY UPDATE***Device completely bricked. A very flimsy, useless piece of paper, attached to the scanner head, came loose and now jams the scanner header every time it does a scan. Video attached. So, for whatever you pay, you only get a scanner for two months. That’s like a rental.***EIGHTEEN DAY UPDATE***The “scan” button is grayed out mysteriously, and I can’t scan anymore. The “preview” button works perfectly, and utilizes the actual physical device, but “scan”, absolutely does not work. Repeat fix procedure from Fifteen-Day-Update: Fixed.***FIFTEEN DAY UPDATE***Epson scanner software errors out on connection everytime. In order to fix: Remove epson driver from device manager, uninstall epson software, delete user/appdata folder and program files dirs, remove every entry containing the word “epson” from the registry editor (start->run->regedit).Failure to do ANY of the above will mean that the Epson scanner is permanently broken for ~that~ particular computer. So, either fix that computer, or find another computer for some ~200 scans before breaking again.***THIRTEEN DAY UPDATE***After physically repairing the scanner, I now get this error: “epson scanner scan button grayed out”. If you google it, you will find thousands of others with the same exact problem. THERE IS NO SOLUTION TO THIS.***TEN DAY UPDATE***I have been using the Epson Scanner for only ten days. It is official BRICKED; its drivers are no longer working on the machine it is connected to. Other machines work, which means it’s a driver issue — but uninstalling the driver WILL NOT FIX IT. That means, YOU HAVE TEN DAYS BEFORE EPSON SCANNER BREAKS, per computer. Good luck. All you get when you run Epson Scanner, after this period, is just a small, little box that says “Epson”, and without any functionality whatsoever.***INITIAL REVIEW***Initially, I was impressed at this light-weight, sleek solution. But then I started to actually use it. After only a few days of a use, the biggest complaint is this: it crashes, randomly, nothing can connect to it (epson software or windows fax&scan), the lights won’t turn on, etc.., and the only way to return it to normal is to completely close all applications and restart your system.Uh, yeah, since I’m just scanning as a background activity to other primary activities (since it takes 7 minutes to do as can), this is incredibly annoying. Can I give a negative star rating?

Even better than expected.
This scanner has been great. I bought it mainly to preserve my grandfather’s scrapbooks, so mostly newspaper and black and white photos. The quality is amazing and the scans come out better than the naked eye in about 10 seconds each.I feel like most complaints are coming from people not looking at the settings. In the default mode the scanner tries to auto grab the pictures you are scanning in an 8.5×11 view. This is a little counter intuitive since the scanner bed is marked out in 8.5×11.75 as its max size. So people scanning in base mode are probably cutting off the edges of most things they’re trying to scan. This is easily resolved by changing the scan mode and defining the scan size. All in all I would definitely buy this scanner again. Ease of use and quality of scans are awesome.

Great Little Photo Scanner
I bought this scanner because the scanner on my color laser all-in-one became a lot more trouble than it was worth. Setting up the Epson was a dream: download and install the drivers, plug the scanner into a USB port and you’re off to the races. During one scanning session I placed three photos on the scanner. I fully expected to get a single 8½ x 11 image that I would then cut out each individual image. No big deal, but I was really surprised that the scanner recognized the three individual photos and scanned accordingly. Maybe all scanners do this and I just haven’t used a good quality scanner in quite some time.I have not used this scanner for any text scanning or scanning to PDF, so I cannot comment on these. But if you are looking for an inexpensive, east to use and high quality scanner, you owe it to yourself to check out this Epson unit.

This is the second epson scanner I purchased (one form Best Buy & one form Amazon) BOTH of these scanners did exactly the same thing. I installed the software, then made one successful scan. After the first successful scan the scanner become unresponsive. Did not turn on dispute being plugged in. This happened twice ! With both scanners . I am extremely disappointed and can not simple return this product to Amazon (best would not take back the other either) and I must contact epson support for a return . Not bad for the money
Handy and great quality for the price. Scans – both color and black and white – are crystal clear. I didn’t want to spend a bunch on a scanner, as my need for it does not come up very often. When I need to fax a doc by using email instead and attaching it, it has been extremely useful. Another thing I do like is the fact that no electrical cord is needed – just a USB supplies supplies both power and connectivity. A few things that kept me from giving a 5 star rating: it can be extremely slow in scanning and then uploading both images and text. The software is very antiquated – interface looks like an app from 10 years or more ago and starting the scan is most definitely not intuitive. Finally figured it out by trial and error – hint: use the software and not the scan button. The former always work – the button will not work reliably unless the app is open already – it won’t wake or trigger it.

Haven’t even used the scanner yet and it’s already burned …
Haven’t even used the scanner yet and it’s already burned an hour of my time. If it does it again I will one star it everywhere I can online. Here’s how a software should install nowadays to be market competitive: you plug it in, it prompts you that something has been plugged in, it installs it for you, it’s done.Epson appears to have a different philosophy: require software installation before plugging in, freeze software installation at 18%, require the user to terminate the process with task manager uninstall the partially installed software and reboot, require user to attempt installation again, installation freezes at 52%, require user to terminate the process with task manager and uninstall the partially installed software and reboot, require user to attempt installation again, this time give an ambiguous disk error and encourage the user to try again, user tries again, install freezes at 98% for several minutes…install complete! Now wasn’t that simple!Another company that doesn’t value it’s users time and doesn’t test it’s software or doesn’t care. They should fire their entire install software division and hire a bunch of college geeks to do it from the ground up correctly, as of now they are bringing shame on the human species by how irresponsible they are being with their customers time.If I begin using this software and this continues I will demand a return and do due diligence in lowering the rating of this product.

Works Very Well For A Lightweight Scanner
I did something really dumb! I ordered a laser printer without a scanner and needed a quick inexpensive fix. I’m not a heavy scanner user so I thought I would give the Epson V19 a shot. It showed up in pristine shape with the cord and owner’s guide in place. Setup was a piece of cake including software download from a link that actually worked! This is a USB connect lightweight scanner that worked as soon as the software finished loading. It fits nicely on top of my printer and is amazingly quiet. It’s not the fastest scanner on the racetrack but considering the light use I give it, that’s not a problem. It does only letter size scans but that’s ok for me. The kickstand on the back is interesting and allows you to stand the scanner up (I haven’t done that yet). All in all I think this was a good value and will serve any light user well.

Works Great
This works great. The edit option doesn’t always pop up, but when it does, it is a nice feature. If you have issues getting the black and while ones to come out, I recommend using a piece of paper or the back of a photo, so there is a sort of frame around the picture that you are trying to scan. My black and white pictures were not coming out at all, too dark, then I tried this and I haven’t had an issue since. Was really surprised how easy it all was. It is not fast, but it gets the job done and you can set up a nice rhythm to get the scans done quicker.

A crazy-good deal at this price
Does the job with no muss nor fuss and seems built for volume workflows. Only very minor criticism is reserved for the USB plug-in cord supplied as the machine end of the cord is a bit on the dodgy doesn’t-quite-fit side: for me, I do not like the scanner cycling all the time on standby so I unplug the thing on the scanner side of the cord when not using it but that is me.

it only turned on once
The one time I used this scanner- it did a good job. i got most of my pictures scanned. I ended up moving shortly after and put it away till now. The scanner is not turning on at all. It gets connected but nothing happens. Its a shame since I only used it once and when packing I placed it back in its box and left it a closet (somewhere safe). I dont know if that is common for this printers to stop working in less than 3 years especially when I only used it once.

Very poor software not user fremedly
The software you download is very hard to use.you can’t crop out an area to just scan. No preview of scan before scanningTo add another page to you your document you have to have the page in the scanner before you can click on scan. Because it starts scanning right away. and there is no way to crop out the area you want to scan.Just very poor software to for user.I have and older Epson Perfection V39 that works great with different software.I perched this one because I was out of town for a while and needed one right away. Will try and return this one just don’t need it.

Works great but it takes 60s to scan a photo
So the description says 10s scans but there is no way unless you pick the lowest dpi and maybe if it is a document. I am scanning photos and it doesn’t matter if I pick 300dpi, 600 dpi or 800 dpi it all takes about a minute to scan in. I have tried on two different computers so I know it isn’t that. Fortunately I am not doing a huge scan project in a couple days so it isn’t the worst thing. The scans are very clear. I like that I can pick locations for my items to save that these old photos get a bit of a facelift with the software. My scanner printer I have made me crop each photo. it does scan quicker but only goes up to 600 dpi. This scanner allows for multiple photos to be scanned at once (which I found out after I did the single photo scan time test noted above). So at least I am getting a few scanned in at one time.If you want the entire item scanned with NO cropping of the edges you can NOT use this scanner on its side as it tells you to make sure there is a gap between the edges of the scanner so it won’t be cropped.Overall I am sure there is better out there but for the price and what I am using it for it will do nicely.

Terrible Software that renders the hardware moot
I have had two Canon Lide’s (last was Lide 110) die on me, but over a period 5 years. I decided to give the Epson a shot to try something different, and also because their web-site says ‘One-touch buttons make scanning directly to computers, emails or PDFs simple. Scan and share on Facebook®3, and cloud services such as Evernote®. ‘ I was interested in the cloud service upload.Scan to email is usually of limited value, unless you have a dedicated E-Mail application such as Microsoft Outlook or the Mail App on Mac. If you use your browser to mail, this is generally useless, unless you perform some very complex hacks (like perhaps link the driver to the browser, and have that automatically login to mail, and even then I am not sure its easy to automate sending attachments).Out of the box, the scanner was bulkier than the canon. It came with a software CD and a manual. The CD mentioned compatibility with some obsolete operating systems like Windows Vista and such. This got me worried because I thought maybe Epson never adapted their software to the latest OSs. The software on their website does not detect your OS (like Canon, and almost every other software does), and I have nothing preventing my browser reading my OS or disk, within security limits.I installed the software bundle for Mac OS 10.x. The Scan software had fonts that looked like something out of an ancient Hatari console. The screen layout is the worst I have ever seen, and I have seen some bad user-interface designs in my 18 years in the software industry. The ‘configuration’ screen is buried at the bottom, exposed by a tiny nondescript icon. It gives you options to select a folder to-save-to, but the scanner seems to have a mind of its own and keeps ignoring the setting. The other software, inscrutably called ‘Device Monitor’ came up blank twice and kept telling me it couldn’t detect a scanner. I finally figured that it was just slow, and if you wait long enough, it does detect the scanner. There is a similar lag with the buttons – I pressed the buttons a few times, and thought the driver was not configured right, until I realized it does work, but takes about 10-15 seconds to work after pressing!I was intrigued by the 1200 dpi scan, and when I scanned with the selection, the scanner whirred and whizzed, went up and down, and finally after about a minute, aborted with another inscrutable message ‘File too large’. For what? I have 200 GB of disk space left on my MacBook Pro.And finally what made me wrap up the scanner and drop it off at the UPS on its return trip to Amazon was the false user-manual wording. The save-to-cloud option only works with Windows, not with Mac (at least that’s what the software note said). I really needed that feature to store receipts and other documents. The Canon MP Navigator was clunky, but feels like a Ferrari compared to this clunky, arcane software that Epson supports this hardware with.

It works great, is compact and easy to use
If you want a scanner that is easy to use, works great, produces consistent results, is very compact, and super easy to use, this is a very solid option.

A sleek, high-resolution scanner that is simply useless at what it’s supposed to do
The scanner is slim, light; the included stand is a genius space-saver; the colors and scan resolution are great. So why the 1 star? There are 7 evenly-spaced missing “bars” of pixels on every scan. (on my second photo I only show 5 of them, because that was not full page)These are not just one missing pixel column either. In my first attached photo, that sample was scanned at 1200dpi (1/4 the scanner’s max resolution) and there are already 4 columns of pixels missing from each instance. At full resolution, I missed a whopping 16 pixels. This is totally noticeable on magazine scans, where it intefered with the halftone pattern. On photo scans, it cuts through people’s faces – especially on group photos – and cause them to lose eyes and noses. These are not from the gear slipping (because they are vertical, perpendicular to the sensor bar). These are not one-off defect either, because I ordered a replacement (Amazon is awesome) and both scanners have the exact same missing columns. Not sure why something like this was “designed” in.Another, initially thought to be minor, but turned out quite a bit of an annoyance, is the fact that the anchor corner on the scanner glass is not true corner. If you put your document flush against the edges of the glass (like anyone who wants their scan to be well-aligned would do), you would miss about 1.5mm of content. That’s a lot of content in a 4″x6″ photo. This is the first scanner I have used that did not scan the edges of documents flushed against the edges of the glass. The result? You’ll have to position your photo at some distance from the edges of the scanning glass edges, and will almost certainly have to straigthen the resulting scanned images later (because unless you have superman vision, there’s no way you can perfectly put your photo perpendicular to the edges without touching them). With those 2 flaws, this is only good for scanning documents. If I just needed a document scanner, then there’s no reason to buy this one. Most all-in-ones at half this price can scan at 600dpi fast, which is more than good enough for documents. This V19, however, is clealy targeted toward people scanning photos and magazines, whom their all-in-ones cannot match. With the missing pixels, the 4800dpi resolution is totally unusable.

A beacon of “keep it simple” quality
I’m an artist and needed a flatbed scanner to upload my work. I was NOT looking for anything “smart” with a ton of bells and whistles, just a dumb workhorse machine that scans my art quickly and produces a good quality image for me to work with. And that’s exactly what I got! It’s incredibly easy to set up; you pull it out of the box, go to the simple website address given in the instructions to download and install the device drivers, then connect the scanner to your computer! Boom! Done. You’re ready to start scanning. This machine is so simple that it doesn’t even have a power cord, the scanner gets power via the USB connection to your laptop or computer. It got a good sized scanning surface that fits your typical 8.5″x11″ (A4 size) paper with a centimeter or so of wiggle room. The images it produces are good quality and the program that comes with the drivers has a couple different options that lets you choose how much control you want over your scans, ranging from “Full Auto Mode” which lets you scan with a single click while the machine does all the work, to “Professional” which gives you control over everything from final image size to dpi. Even my mom, who has trouble finding her phone’s contacts list, can use this machine without needing any help!If you need a simple scanner that doesn’t try to outsmart you and just does its job without complaint, this scanner is a great option, especially for how cheap it is!

Requires Microsoft Windows
Great little scanner if one is running Microsoft Windows. I was ready to send it back because my Linux machine can not detect it (even with the Epson Linux software installed). If they had used a real network port rather than the crummy USB-2 port then all one would need to do is enter the IP address. As it is I have to carry around a Windows Laptop along with the scanner. This totally defeats the size and price benefits.EPSON NEEDS TO IMPROVE THEIR SOFTWARE SUPPORT !!!Not recommended.

Works great with macOS Catalina on my MacBook Pro 16
I have a 2020 MacBook Pro 16 with the latest macOS version of Catalina. Because my MacBook only has USB C ports, I got a 3-foot cable with USB C at one end and Micro USB at the other. This lets me plug the Epson V19 scanner directly into the laptop without an adapter.I went to Epson’s website and downloaded the software for using the scanner. “Epson Scan 2” is the program with the most flexible features for using the potential of the V19 scanner. I’ve used this software with previous Epson scanners, so I’m familiar with it. The software could use an update, but it does everything I need it to – including scanning up to 9,600 dpi (at least 9,600 is listed in the choices). I did some test scans and the scanner performed great – both in terms of resolution and color rendition. Unlike some of the all-in-one printer/scanners intended for documents, this scanner does an excellent job scanning photographs. It provides fine details and good exposure of the scan.I bought this scanner because it is so compact and does not require a separate power cord (power comes from the USB cable). The only feature that is missing, is the ability to scan transparent material, such as negatives or slides.Overall, a good purchase.

Works well, even with Macs!
Works on Mac book pretty well. Comes with a CD to install software and once installed, plug your scanner in and it will turn on. I prefer to use the macs scanner option through system preferences because it detects separate photos. With the software, you get what’s needed to make the scanner turn on as well as some photo and document editing add-ons which you download through a link. The scanning software they give you uses a “twain” and when you use this, it stops the mac scanning software from working. To remove it you go to finder>applications>image capture>file>reset twain and you will be able to scan with the mac scanning software. I changed it back to the mac scanner option only because I hate that there scanning software doesn’t separate images. Another thing is that for larger DPI, it takes a lot longer than the high-end scanners but for the price, I didn’t expect it to be that fast. I had an HP all in one printer and scanner but the scanner started scanning too dark so I wanted to give this scanner a try and for the price, I was pleasantly surprised. This scanner has a dust detection option which I leave off because it takes longer if you turn it on, but my photos have a lot less dust on the scan! I was pleasantly surprised. I attached photos showing the difference between my old scanner to the epson perfection.

Good Enough For Me!
After unsuccessful tests of two other scanners, I ended up with this and I am very pleased so far. I did not need an “all-in-one.” I just needed a simple stand-alone scanner for documents and historical photos. The very slim, small-footprint Epson V19 installed easily off its accompanying disk and is working just fine after three days. Of course, who knows anymore how long anything is going to last? :(Some notes:1. The glass only supports originals up to 8 1/2″ X 11″ and there is no document feeder, so don’t buy if you plan to scan a lot of legal size originals.2. There is no negative/slide tray included with this unit3. The included software is a little tricky to figure out if you want to do anything more than just scan in “Automatic” mode. No big deal, though. I haven’t had a lot of time to play with it so far, but i think I’ll get it down with a few more experiments. One cool plus is that the unit is powered off the USB port, so no power adapter is needed. I also love that it’s only about as thick as my iPad.Overall, a good choice if you like simplicity and you don’t want to spend a lot of money for something that will probably only last a few years anyway.

Easy to use & store, but slow
I’m an artist and I needed a flatbed scanner for paintings/drawings that I’m going to sell online. I’m not a tech expert, but I’ve owned a few scanners now, and this one is “just alright.” For the price, it’s a good deal.Cons: slow, not perfect quality, don’t like the software it comes with, noisyPros: price, just plug it in and it works, doesn’t take up much desk spaceI like that I can have it on hand at my desk without needing to give up half my desk space (I actually just use it in its vertical position, works great!). I just use the default Windows scanner instead of its weird-ass Epson software. It is slow… You can scan maybe 2 pages a minute. I’m actually writing this review as I wait for it to scan a page.I was initially excited about the “scan as separate images” option… So if I have 3 drawings on one page, it will scan each drawing individually and make them separate files, basically. But it always crops in so much that the scan is unusable, and sometimes the software gets confused and it splits one image in half and scans it separately. Definitely not a practical feature in the end, and it’s annoying to have to turn it off manually for every scan.Overally 4/5, would buy again!

DO NOT recommend
This scanner was easy to set up and use, however after the first use it completely quit working. I called Epson and not only did the rep yell at me (even though I was completely kind and calm) she kept telling me that it was user error. It would not power up at all, even though I tried it on two different computers and tried four different cords. I’ve been a tech girl a long time, and I’ve never had such issues as I did with this scanner.DEFINITELY do NOT recommend this. And I won’t be buying an Epson to replace it. The only upside is that it was inexpensive, so the fact that Amazon would not let me return it and Epson would do nothing to fix it the situation made it easier to just chuck it in the garbage and buy a better quality one to replace it.

the quality of the scan quality seems good. Unfortunately
I received this scanner today to replace a 5-year-old Epson V30 scanner. I will use it with my 2012 Mac mini. The V19 scanner works well and is surprisingly fast. Also, the quality of the scan quality seems good. Unfortunately, for me, the scanner has a near fatal flaw.Whenever I start, restart, or bring my computer out of sleep mode, it accesses the scanner, which makes a whirring noise of sorts. It’s not loud but is bothersome to me.I knew in advance that the V19 is USB powered and that the only means to turn off the scanner is to unplug it. So, this is my fault for not doing enough research up front. As an aside, I probably shouldn’t rate this scanner, but there’s no way to avoid this. The scanner works well, and most people are probably not bothered by the scanner noise, so I gave it 4 stars.Edit 4/24/15I’ve had this scanner for over a week now and thought I would update my review. The inability to turn off the scanner has not been as great an issue as I anticipated. I plug it into a USB dock on my desk and found that I can easily turn off the scanner simply by unplugging it. To avoid any possible problem, I wait to do this until the computer and scanner are in sleep mode. This is a bit of a kludge but it works well.Because of the small size of the V19 as compared with my previous scanner, I have found there is room to put the V19 on my desk next to my monitor. This is a real convenience in that I no longer have to move from my desk to do a scan.In all other respects I still like the scanner. It is relatively fast (at least compared with my previous scanner); the quality of scans is good; and it is certainly not excessively noisy as scanners go. I use the Epson Scan software in office mode, and, for my use, it is excellent. I haven’t tried any of the other software.

It just works
Scanner was very easy to setup and use on a MacOS. I use the Epson Scan 2 utility for easier access to the settings (changed to dpi to 600 to scan photos). Does take about 1 minute to scan a 4 by 6 photo at that resolution. Does not scan negatives, but would need to be significantly more $$$ for that capability.

Easy to set up, small enough to store away
Recently used this to digitize 20 old photo albums and declutter during our move. This is easy to use and intuitive, I feel happy to have downsized and archived photos before they became corrupted with time. Oversized documents are difficult to scan.

Good enough for daily home use
I suppose for the price I paid, I cannot really complain about it. It gives me very clear scans, and it really does the job well enough for me. I also own an HP laser multifunction, and that one had an ADF with a single-pass duplex scanning (2 scanner heads!), so yeah, read my comments with the knowledge that my expectations might be a little high. Hahaha.Scan speed: Some other comments mentioned that it was fast, but it still felt slow to me. (I’m sure I’m unconsciously comparing it to the HP…)Paper placement: So I scan a lot of the documents I get through the mail, and they tend to double folded. I noticed that if I went to just place them on the scanner and close the lid, the fold marks are pretty obvious on the resulting scan. It’s like the lid is not pressing down completely to hold the paper flat against the glass. I have to apply additional pressure on the lid before the crease marks lighten.Software: It’s not really intuitive to use. That being said, I have used Canon, HP and now Epson and I have never found them intuitive to use, so maybe it’s just me. For example, when I preview a scan, there are no zoom tools for temporary zooming. Many times I want to preview the scan quality to let me know if I should increase the dpi, but I can’t find such an option. Also, while practical, I find that certain frequently used options should be highlighted, such as “Do you want to scan another page”. It’s buried with other options that I don’t use that often, and I normally have to squint a little to find it. The menu is also too wordy. HP’s one had more easy to understand icons and I find myself being able to navigate faster with those. But really, I’m just splitting hairs. For the price, it’s really a good product.

Intermittent issues
Images better than expected especially on 37 year old 35mm photos. Restored image quality.Setup is easy but it developed a problem while scanning. Started “skipping” after verbal days. image not usable. Unplug and reset worked fine.Started working for a while.Top cover is very flimsy and light.Returned but will buy another.

Too many issues, returned
Unfortunately, this is going back. I just had too many issues with it. In fact, for something as simple as a USB scanner, which should be plug and play and should just work, that’s an understatement.Pros:Very quiet, significantly better than my old Canon.Fast scans (but somewhat slow overall, see cons). No transportation lock, so no possibility of damaging scanner due to forgetting to lock it.Kickstand is a neat idea. I personally don’t have much use for it, but may in the future and it’s a nice touch.Cons:Couldn’t get the buttons to work.Took multiple installs/uninstalls/reboots to get working, then it stopped working again. Probably the most unreliable USB device I’ve ever used.Auto detection/cropping doesn’t work very well at all, requiring it to be manually done with greatly slows down the process.I had some problems doing a couple scans where it didn’t seem to scan all the way to the edges. Also, at least once it took a long time (probably about a minute) to turn on after plugging it in. I was going to test these issues further but, as mentioned above, it stopped working AGAIN, and I really don’t feel like fighting with it anymore. My Canon which I’ve had for years works every single time without issue.Hinge design isn’t quite as good as Canon’s. I’m not sure, but I don’t think it opens as far/wide, and it definitely doesn’t operate as smoothly/intuitively.No OCR function in included software. Trying to use 3rd party OCR software was frustrating as different scan settings would result in different levels of success in using the software, despite the scans appearing similar. Even multiple scans with the same settings would give varying results. This means the scans are different every time even when nothing is changed. Furthermore, while the software I was using is free and not professional grade, and it’s hard to say how much of the variation was due to the scanner and how much was due to the scanner, I would rather just have good OCR functionality built into the scanner software to improve the quality and reliability and decrease the amount of time and effort required to produce searchable scans. While the use of micro USB is nice so it can share cables, for something like this where it doesn’t need to be smaller and where the smaller, more fragile micro USB connector is likely to either break or at least not last as long as a mini or B connector, and since you’re almost certainly going to have a cable dedicated to it, I’d rather they didn’t use it. Micro is simply a bad choice for something like this. There’s a small notch on the back of the lid with no apparent function. I’m not sure if it’s a defect or just a strange design choice. Either way, I couldn’t find mention of it anywhere which leads me to believe it may be a defect, and at the very least it caused me some concern and several wasted minutes trying to figure it out.Software doesn’t minimize to the taskbar, but instead just makes the windows as small as they can possibly be and moves them to the bottom-left corner of the desktop (seriously Epson?!).I gave it 2 stars simply because if it had worked properly, it would at least be decent, as it is fast and quiet. But even then, it would only be 3.5-4 stars based on what I’ve seen. So 2 stars is probably generous. Time to try the Canon.

Great scanner, but installation of Mac software problematic
This scanner makes excellent quality scans, is fast, and looks nice on the desktop. I also like that it is USB powered and does not require separate power. However, if you are a Mac owner running OS Sierra, you may have difficulty with the software installer. I found that it would not run, but would repeatedly freeze giving me a “0% progress” graph bar and go no further. If you have this problem, here is how I solved it: The installation cd gives you a link to go download the driver. After downloading and double-clicking the disk image, you will see the “EPSON.app” installer. Ignore it, and scroll on down to the “Common” folder, then run the application inside the EPSON scan folder. That should install the driver correctly.I tried contacting Epson support regarding the non-functional installer, and did get a response, but it was generic and not helpful. (I was told to uninstall the software and reinstall—a strange response since I had stated that the problem was that the software couldn’t be installed to begin with.) I was also told that the problem was probably that I had connected the USB cable before trying to install—I hadn’t, because I had seen in the Quick Start Guide that it says clearly not to do that. When installed, the software has a very dated, mid-90’s look, appearing virtually the same as the Epson scanner software I had installed approximately 20 years ago. However, it does work well, so I have no real complaints. I just wish Epson would put more resources into Mac software and customer assistance for Mac users. So in general, great scanner, but Epson could put more effort into improving their Mac software.

A great Scanner.
The scanner does the job. Easy setup and instructions. It does a nice job of scanning.
