Failed two weeks after return period expired
This unit was inexpensive but seemed to work well in the beginning. The logic was different and slow to respond. Then, it began to misbehave. After pressing pause and then power off, the unit no longer would return to that place in the dvd. Settings had to be redone. Finally, two weeks after the return period closed, the unit failed to read known good discs. Save your money. Buy a name brand unit.As an addendum to my original comments, I was contacted by a Christin from Gokuid customer service who offered a new player or a full refund to correct my issue. It was a very pleasant surprise! In today’s world this kind of service and backing is almost unheard of. I upgraded my rating to 4 stars based upon the friendly, courteous and helpful service provided by Christin. I selected a full refund as I had already purchased another player and received the refund the next day.

This is a great option for anyone who does not need all the blu-ray. It plays burned DVDs and CDs. What more do you need. Plenty of setting options for your needs. I like this unit.

Nice Compact Size
I like the size and easy operation of this unit. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that I purchased it to play U-Tube videos that I had downloaded to a thumb drive. It says it cannot play this format. 🙁 My new television (which is in another room) will play the videos, but this unit does not. I am not sure what I should have looked for in terms of format playing ability, but I guess I have to keep looking. I am keeping this unit anyway for the CD player. It did not cost much so it isn’t worth the hassle of returning.

Low volume output
Extremely low volume output. With my tv at max and dvd at max gives 1/4 output that my tv is capable of. I’m into audio so maybe if you use a receiver or sound bar MAYBE it’ll be ok. But I wouldn’t count on it.

I decided to keep my valuable collection of DVD’s.
Valuable to me. A lot of care and effort have gone into my small collection. Why should I discard them because DVD’s are out of fashion? This is small, works great, and I’m happy that my DVD’s are not lost to modern technology!

The remote is the weak link
Overall, the picture quality is excellent, thanks in part to the HDMI outlet and supplied cable. The remote leaves much to be desired. It only works about half the time, and then only when operated from inside about 6-8 feet. I wish I could ask for a new remote, but it seems Amazon only wants to replace the whole unit to fix a problem such as this. Based on the remote, I could not recommend.

Worked for about and hour.Now won’t power on.
Purchased for elderly parents . We wanted to show them some old photos/videos. Set it up when we visited and it took a little over an hour to show them their old memories. Visiting them today to show them another dvd, however the player we purchased for them won’t even power on now. It was used once for about an hour and now it won’t even turn on! Sent an email to the maker, depending on their response, I will either leave feedback as is or update. Update. Changed review from 1 to 3 stars seller sent a replacement. I however haven’t tested it yet as it’s a replacement for wife’s parents failed player. I will update if it doesn’t work . Appreciated the quick response from seller

Does what its supposed to do
Bought one unit a year ago.Worked so well I bought another for the bedroom.One star off as the remote isn’t the most powerful I’ve used.You need to be within 10 feet for it to work right.The picture,does need adjustment to get it dialed in.But for the price a nice player,seems very dependable,better than many I’ve had in past.Plays all regions also…

It took me a while to get used to the remote. It’s a little complicated, but now I figured it out, and I like it very much.. I would’ve given it five stars but the instructions were a little complicated. I’m an older, senior.

It does the job for a fair price
It’s a compact player, almost the same size/dimensions of my Sony Blu-Ray player (see the attached pictures), and it plays all my DVDs with different regions/zones, irrespective of color format (i.e., PAL or NTSC). So, it does the job for a fair price, and plays DVDs that my Sony Blu-Ray player doesn’t support.

Don’t buy: Painfully slow and quick to break
I’ve owned my DVD’s for a long time, and over the years I’ve had many DVD players. This was by far the worst one and if I could go back, I would by something more expensive.When I bought this item; I figured, all DVD players are the same and it either plays the DVDs or it doesn’t. I was wrong. The loading time was sooooo long it was painful: to start up the DVD took 3-5 minutes, to start an episode took another 2-3 minutes, selecting any item on the upfront menu took like 10 seconds to load that the cursor had moved from item-to-item. It just felt awful, I’ve never seen anything like it.Price was a big reason I selected this item: it was so cheap that it felt free. Only after it broke so quickly did I start to think about price per use. I used this thing between 10 or 15 times in total before the remote completely crapped out. And, of course, the machine itself is completely useless without the remote for anything that has an upfront menu; the machine has a play button, but has no buttons to change selections from a menu, so you can only choose whatever default item your cursor is over.Ultimately, this was not a good buy – it was annoying to use, and was probably the most expensive “per use” DVD player I’ve ever had. Save yourself some headache and money: don’t buy this.

Screen saver issue
When I play a cd in the player, the screen saver will not activate. I can only get the brand name GOKUID on the TV screen not the screen saver and I don’t want to damage the screen by repeated use. The directions seem to indicate that the screen saver is only used when the CD is in stop status for three minutes or the CD tray is empty, which does not seem correct. I used the set up menu and the screen saver is turned on by default. I would like the screen saver to be on while the cd is playing as not to damage the TV screen.An update, I contacted Gokuid about the problem and they contacted me quickly and tried to resolve and issued a credit for the CD player. I was very pleased with their customer support.

Great DVD player at a great price
Only purchased this DVD player to play commercial DVDs and DVD’s that I created separately from 8mm tapes and so far all the DVDs I’ve played on this player play from my perspective, perfectly. It’s plugged into an HDMI port of a 55 inch 4K TV which feeds an audio amplifier and a pair of sizable speakers so I would think any issues with video or audio would show up.I like the fact that if you stop a movie it will continue at the same place when you get back to it. Very clear and sharp image with believably accurate colors, at least from my standpoint. Unlike reports from some other reviewers, my experience is the remote works much further than 6 feet away, 8 feet for sure. That’s how far I’m sitting from it. You do have to be pointing the remote directly at the DVD player however with a clear line of sight.The remote is easy to use. I particularly like the OSD button (On Screen Display) which shows a lot of useful information about what’s being viewed including what chapter is being viewed and how much time is left and has played.

Works well but why does it turn on after a power outage?
Seems to work fine. A bit odd that it turns on after a power outage. We have a lot in our power system so we routinely need to shut it off after a power outage or even a power hiccup.

Don’t expect a lot from this player but the customer support is great
First, I purchased this based on previous reviews. I was expecting something good for the price. But it’s just ok. It functions. It has some annoying bugs. Depending on the disc, when you first play one the subtitles are on by default and you have to turn them off. Also, the discs load a lot slower than I expected. The volume over HDMI is too low. I haven’t owned a DVD player in about 5 years and the technology hasn’t improved. The prices have just gone up.EDIT on 3/27/23. Customer Service contacted me about my dissatisfaction and offered me a full refund. That is great service! So I am updating my review to reflect this.

Works just great

I bought this DVD player to take with me to a hotel that had an inexpensive TV network that didn’t have many of the good channel. So I brought this DVD player and some of my DVDs and enjoyed my spare time there with some old favorites. This DVD player starts and runs smoothly, has several choices for connecting to the TV – I used the included HDMI cable. The picture is very good high definition, there is no picture skipping like with some players, the remote works very well (pause so I can get a snack, fast forward and reverse at multiple speeds. A good buy and it was delivered next day after ordering.

The player itself is fine and works well. Be advised that the website they show for support is not working so I’m not sure what that means but it is a bit concerning. Hopefully I won’t have any problems or need warranty support

A Good Basic CD Player
I got this to replace my 30 year-old Sony CD player I’d been using with my mini system in my home office. I couldn’t find a small simple single play CD player until I checked the selection of small DVD players that also play CDs. I picked this this because of the high ratings, the larger play/pause/rewind/fast forward buttons on the remote, the clean design of the front panel, and the lack of gaudy markings on the front and top.I say this is “basic” because it doesn’t allow programing or displaying the track number. No matter – I just play through the entire CDs anyway. It even remembers where I left left off even after powering it down. There was an undocumented trick I discovered to change the timer from counting up to counting down by pressing the OSD button on the remote.The sound is OK AFAIK because my small bookshelf speakers aren’t that detailed – unlike my 40 year-old ADS L620s still sounding as good as ever – but is good enough for my small office.All in all I’d recommend this for a small system CD player for playering background music. I can’t say about the DVD part because I’m not plugging it into any monitor.

Very nice DVD/USB player for the price, with a few caveats…
This product has a surprisingly good picture quality and sound for an inexpensive DVD player. My only issue so far (which isn’t the fault of the device, really) is that all of my videos are in mp4, not mpeg format, and all of my usb sticks are either 64 or 128gb. Converting all of my files should be fun as I have so many of them to do.

Good for new TVs
It’s a great DVD player if you have a new TV, which isn’t a big deal right now for me cause I’m waiting for my new tv to come in but for now am using a 90s box TV and the color and picture is very dark. Other than that it works great, but unless you like dark pictures, your probably better off using it on a newer TV.

I would rate this ten stars for value for money!
This DVD player was a real find! My old one finally bit the dust after many years and I couldn’t find one locally that came anywhere near what the price of this one was. I also needed one that would play non-USA configured discs. I hooked it up last night (VERY easy!) and tried one of my “alien” discs. It worked great. It is quite small, so takes up very little space. A couple things that I would improve is that it does not have any manual buttons on the unit, it is all controlled by the remote. The remote is also very small, so for my advanced age, it is a bit more difficult to find the right button for what you want. But all-in-all, it’s a great unit for an unbelievable price!

A one-star ding for the manual.
This is a very good machine for the price, which equates to roughly “free”. However, there’s a flaw in theOwner’s Manual which drove me crazy for a while. The text reads, “This disc player has a ‘Last Played’ memory feature. When you press STOP, it will retain the position so that you can resume play from this point, even after turning the disc player off. Press STOP once to stop and hold playback at the current position. Pressing PLAY will resume play from the current position.”For my device, at least, this doesn’t work. However, I found that pressing PAUSE before shutting downallows the disc to restart later at the exact point where I turned the player off. This is true only if you don’t remove the disc; otherwise, you’ll have to search for the breakpoint when you reinsert the disc.The remote impressed me by having to transport buttons at the top, so I don’t have to hold the thingwith the heel of my hand and fumble with them near the bottom, as with so many others. It is a bittemperamental in that I have to aim it very low or it won’t work at all.By the way, people often complain about buying other region discs by mistake. But with all-regiondevices this cheap, there’s no reason not to have one. In fact, I’m surprised that this feature isn’tincluded on all players.

Worth every bit of it’s low price!
We are happy with this purchase.We wanted to watch DVD’s of Canadian TV Programs. It was possible to purchase the DVD’s from Australia. We experimented with changing the country codes on our existing DVD players and computers — yes it works. But it seemed crazy to try to change back and forth for our local DVD’s.Enter a small, cost-effective player without blinders on regarding country of origin!It is hard to use the remote. The unit often tries to ignore it. We’ve changed batteries, slipped it forward on the shelf, stand up to point at unit directly .. Sometime it works, sometimes is doesn’t. Darn it!It does what we need it to, and was well worth what we paid for it.

Bought Aug 5, 2023 to use in our horse trailer. Only used a handful of times and it is Broken. Will not turn on. Only 2 months old. After writing my original review company reached out to me and sent us a brand new DVD player while letting me keep the old one so that I could pull it apart and get out the Movie that was stuck. Great Customer Service and very unexpected.

Has basic function buttons on the unit in case remote stops working
Its good that it has at least some function buttons on the unit such as open, pause, play, stop and power off plus a digital display in case remote batteries go dead and none left laying around to have some control and to at least see how much time the dvd has left to play.Its nice being able to view and listen from the flash drive. It is backward compatible fat / fat32 formatted which is standard formatting for usb drives / flash drives / thumb drives that have a capacity of 32gb or less. Some image formats it can display include gif, jpg, and can play mp3 music files and a lot of video formats.Its small and compact and light weight. I did noticed however that the dvd drawer is very thin and even though I’m very gentle with things I could feel it bend a little so I would recommend gently pushing it shut no harder than absolutely necessary.Its a little disappointing that it cant play blue ray but i don’t have a lot of those and some that i do have also came with a standard version dvd so that’s good.I got this for my bedroom tv so another thing i liked is that when it is powered off it doesn’t waste electricity burning any red led light. I figure if its off it should really be off lolI dont watch many dvds myself just wanted something to view bible scriptures on the tv and read along at night and for my grandson who can watch some dvds i bought for his mama when she was little so i didnt need anything elaborate.So far i like it and it is serving its purpose and was a bargain price. I hope it lasts.
