    Second hand

There’s lines on the screen when you first turn it on. I have to work with it for it to work right. Thinking of sending it back.

    Needed a dvd player.

For the compact design I’m thoroughly pleased with this player. Played a Blu-ray no problem and like the smaller remote it came with. Great price for what I got. No issues.

Couldn’t believe I needed to have a blue-ray player, but I was happy to find this reasonably priced player. Quick shipping, easy connection and set up. Worked great.

Confusing, couldn’t get it to work.

After decades of avoiding floor models and factory reconditioned products, I took my chance here and lost. This player had a terribly confusing interface and ultimately I could not even get a disc to play on it. Of course, YMMV. Alas, I sent the player back and bought an LG. Actually, I ordered the LG before even sending the Philips player back. Happy ending!

Bought this for my dad, a week later tells me it doesn’t work. It didn’t come with an HDMI cord so I got him that separately, and all is fine now!! Picture quality good. Functions easily. Just be prepared with your own wires

Rating for Blu- Ray Disc product

I was very disappointed that there wasn’t a cord with this product to enable me to connect it to my Smart TV. Had I known this, I would have done this differently. As it was I then had to wait and order a cord to enable me to use the Blu-Ray. It would have been helpful to said, HDMI cord required but not included!!

    Good For The Money

No issues, unlike others have reported, though I intend to use it sparingly in the first place, since I prefer DVDs to Blu Rays whenever possible for my collection. But it generally worked fine and the only complaint might be the batteries not being included, but that’s minor at best. No real issue with picture quality or functionality, simple connecting of HDMI and it started up with no issues, so pretty good for someone who isn’t always trying to keep up with tech advances and a good value as well.

A no frills blue ray/dvd/cd player that just works!

This replaced a Samsung smart wifi blue ray player that was stuck in a boot loop. I wanted a blue ray player that wasn’t a “smart wifi” model due to an update to my Samsung one bricked it and was no longer under warranty. This one just plain works and it only plays blue ray/dvd/cds with no apps or Internet. I’ve had no problems with it and it works great. It did come with a remote.

  14. GernBlanston

    4.0 out of 5 stars

Player good remote the worst ever.

It’s a fine player, 5 stars for playback, software and all that, but 0 for the remote. Its awful. It has sharp hard edged corners to match the style of the player. It’s thick and square so it’s uncomfortable to hold.

    Very Basic Model

You don’t get any extra bells or whistles with this model, just a really basic unit with a small remote and no extras including cords. So far it puts out a descent picture that is what I was looking for when I bought it.

    Garbage

I bought this dvd player for a playroom we were remodeling for our kids. The project took much longer than originally planned and we just got the dvd player installed today. Unfortunately for us, the dvd player does not work at all on its first use and because we just opened it today, we can no longer return it. Lesson learned, I will not be buying a refurbished electronic from Amazon again.

Doesn’t work with Blu-Ray, and barely at all

Even though the DVD player has the Blu-Ray sticker on it, it does not play Blu-Ray DVDs at all. Also, the tray goes in and out automatically, forcing you to drop a regular DVD into the tray very quickly before it closes by itself. All in all, a waste of money. Very poor quality, not worth it.

    Great Spare

As a spare blu-ray DVD player, all I needed this for, it fits perfectly. Only to note this model has only limited formats available for playing music and video files off the usb input. I bought it mainly for playing disks. No streaming services built-in, I also did not need and are also not included: Works and plays great for disks! 4 stars only for what it is not designed for in the first place, otherwise 5 for what it does do.

No wifi (streaming), no HDMI cable, no batteries in remote – YES! Just what I wanted.

This is a bare bones BluRay /DVD upconvert device. I bought it to put on a Roku TV, so I did not want wifi / streaming. Smart TV’s with other streaming devices DRIVE ME NUTS! Everything clashes and you never really know which device is delivering the show. There were no instructions, but really, you have an HDMI socket and a power cord. Nothing else needed if you keep it simple. At first start=up, I put in a BluRay disc, and the lag time was horrible. I immediately cursed myself for buying renewed, and I was convinced it was going back. I couldn’t get it to skip the previews, couldn’t get the disc menu – i.e., “Play Movie”, “Scenes”, “Features”. etc. I ran it thru it’s paces – very patiently – and I can’t explain this, but it seemed to improve reaction time after about 15 to 30 minutes. Magic? Lubrication got spread around the belts and gears as it warmed up? Who knows. but it seemed to work as intended. I’m going to keep using it for now, seeing if thelagging response kicks in every time I fire it up. Note: I bought this to replace a seldom used Philips machine that gave up the ghost after about 15 years and would not open and allow me to remove my DVD. I had to disassemble the thing to get my movie out. Now, I need to revisit my Sony BluRay attached to my LG Smart AI TV, see if can turn off the wifi, and actually use the BluRay player. AAARRRGGGHhhhhh.

A basic, no-frills player. Just what I needed.

I like this Phillips Blu-Ray player very much. It is simply a Blu-Ray/DVD/CD player and nothing more: no internet connection, no smart streaming; just plug in the power cord and a HDMI cable (not included) and you are good to go. The remote is comically small, but I have no trouble manipulating it. The player itself is smaller than I expected, much smaller than the Oppo DVD player I replaced, which means it will fit just about anywhere. Picture and sound quality are great. My one quibble is that the receiving angle for the remote is narrow and you have to aim more carefully than with most other remote devices. Other than that, I highly recommend it.

I inadvertently gave this a review because I thought it was a different DVD player. This is the same DVD player that I had in my downstairs and I want to use it upstairs and it works perfectly. I just wanted to clarify that this is easy to use, easy to hook up, and a great item

    I love Philips products

I have always loved Philips and we’ve had a lot of them over the years. The first TV I remember is a light green with yellow on/off button 12 inch Phillips TV. It was as beautiful as it was small and lasted many years. Then we switched to another bigger Phillips TV and loved it for a long time. We also had a small fan/heater from Philips that was as accurate and effective as a Dyson heater is today.I had a Samsung blu-ray player that was malfunctioning. I love Samsung products but I hated that blu-ray from day one. Recently the blu-ray stopped releasing discs so I came on Amazon (where else would I go if not my dear Amazon?) and ordered this one. Very easy to use. All I had to do was plug the cable to the wall and an HDMI cable to the TV and blue-ray. Done. Image and sound are very good and most of all, …you got a PHILIPS!!

    Perfect!

This is a basic compact Blu-ray Player that doesn’t have WiFi streaming services and you have to install any updates that are available from Philips support page via a USB stick. The ONLY cable connections it has besides a power cord is 1 HDMI & 1 USB port. The Philips remote control is just 4 inches long, less then 2 inches wide and it is very difficult to use. The Player is just 10 1/2 inches long, 7 1/2 inches wide and about 1 inch thick. The Philips Blu-ray/DVD Player looks brand new, it came in the original box and the box was unsealed, but you have tp unzip the folder – then load the file itself on a USB stick on the player and it upgraded the software, but it plays Blu-ray/DVDs just fine.

    Plays fine except..

The remote control is so small it is easy to loose. The buttons on the remote are too small & when you can push them you get an annoying voice that says what you are doing & you can turn it off. “Stop” “play“ “pause” etc… it’s a very annoying high pitched voice! I can’t stand it!!!

Great basic Blu-Ray and DVD player

The only issue I have with this unit is it’s missing an aspect ratio adjustment button or setting. So, if you’re watching an old movie in 4:5 aspect ratio, and your TV (like my Vizio) is also missing an aspect ratio adjustment, you’ll be stuck watching everything with fat heads and long cars as it’s stretched out to 16:9. Otherwise, I like the simple (albeit small) remote and basic interface.

    Not Really What I Expected

I purchased this DVD because it was a less expensive DVD/Blu-Ray machine. I was certified renewed, so that was the reason for the low price. But when I got it, I was quite surprised by the size (miniscule) and the lack of options on the remote. It does not seem like it’s worth $49. But, so far it works perfectly and offers a great picture. Better than the non-blu-ray DVD player I had previously, which was far more expensive and a SONY.

    great for it’s price

A cheap Blu-Ray player isn’t hard to find. One that’s name brand, plays DVD, and upscales the quality is. It’s simplicity, especially the remote, leaves a bit to be desired. But that could also be one of it’s advantages.

Highly recommended for people with small hands

Overall, I am happy with the refurbished model 1502 Philips Blu-ray player I recently purchased. It is superior to my previous Philips player and, with no set-up required, it worked flawlessly right out of the box. Its one drawback is the diminutive remote that comes with it. The buttons are so small that, if I ever go blind, I’ll have a head start on learning braille! Other than that, I am quite satisfied with this very reasonably-priced player.

Blows Sony away and at a better price

I’ve owned two Sony blu ray- DVD players and the second one didn’t last long either, a couple years, and many times malfunctioned in different ways. This last one, the female power Jack on the player just broke. No more Sony’s for me. This Phillips Rocks ! , and has a bunch of nice features. I didn’t expect it to be this nice and easy to operate. Please don’t raise the price because of my awesome review…or I’ll buy something else. 😁

Total, Utter Garbage. Literally nothing works.

I picked this DVD/Blu Ray “player” because I wanted one without Wifi integration. I already have streaming capabilities elsewhere and I don’t need those extras features. At first glance, this seemed like an easy solution and one of the few that could do it. Never have I ever been more wrong in my life. The DVD drive does not open automatically, regardless of whether you use the remote or the button on the player itself. You have to force it open with a paperclip. If you actually put a DVD in and close it, you get this funny message that there’s no disk in despite the disk that’s very obviously in (see picture after I unscrewed the unit to see what was going on). I probably should have attempted a Blu Ray to see if it was any different (I have way more DVDs than Blu Ray currently), but I was so frustrated at this point that I moved directly to testing a flashdrive. Have you ever seen a USB port that couldn’t play Mp4? Neither had I. Until now. But you can play pictures! Yippee! Now let’s take a moment to acknowledge the remote, which maybe should be entered into the Guiness World Records under “useless artifacts.” 27 buttons, 2 inches by 1 inch if that. Buttons are far too small and close together to be easy to operate. Takes a lot of concentration and even then you don’t always click the right thing. Not that it matters of course. Remote is not responsive unless you want to turn the thing off. By now you probably do (haha!)I probably should have realized the company isn’t a quality company worth investing your money in when I read the reviews that point out that Philips can’t even be bothered to include an HDMI cable. Sure, I had my own, but your product is kind of incomplete without it. No batteries is one thing. No cables? That’s flat out dumb. Now, I want to be fair and call out the one good thing this company has done: giving me the option to return it for free. (Wait a minute, I think that was Amazon’s doing. Nevermind! In the words of Michael Scott from The Office, “Boom! Roasted”)

Works well – wish for one feature

When we pause our movies/shows – we can’t see how much time is left in the movie or how far we’ve watched. I didn’t realize this was a feature I enjoyed until I didn’t have it. Everything else works fine and is smooth – but be advised that you won’t be able to see where you are in your movie if you pause with this player.
