24 reviews for Brother ADS-4300N Professional Desktop Scanner with Fast Scan Speeds, Duplex, and Networking Office Products

Good scanner with strange design choices

Brother ADS-4300N’s Duplex Desktop Scanner is a good scanner with some really oddball design decisions. This can either be connected by one of the old USB-A to B cables (which is included) or by hardwired LAN – nothing in between, like wireless networking. Now, the upside here is that the downloadable software is fairly robust for getting a connection through, which a lot of competitors’ isn’t. It doesn’t include OCR or more sophisticated processing software, which at this price point is surprising, but that’s fine. What isn’t is that if this is designed for an office with the 5e connection that this should have a one touch option on the scanner to send a batch job to a server – or someone with the software open – and it doesn’t do that; you’ve got to run the batch job from your own local system. It’s not a bad piece of scanner hardware by any means, but the design decision here to make the networking not quite what it needs to be for a centralized scanner is puzzling and what leaves this at 4 stars.

Powerful device for mass paper elimination

I was amazed by the speed this device churns papers thru. A nice feature nowhere mentioned is USB drive support – plug a USB, load a stack of papers, press on USB button – and you’ll have a PDF on yhr USB stick with scannings. The only think I don’t like is device’ sensitivity to PostIt notes – it just does not like them afixed to papers, and stops in the middle of a sheet if there’s one at the wrong place.

Outstanding full-duplex desktop Scanner. High speed. Goodbye File Cabinets!

This well-made and highly functional full-duplex document scanner has virtually eliminated the need for my file cabinets. The speed and ease-of-use of this unit has allowed me to scan many reams of documents that can now be categorized and filed digitally for easy reference and recovery vs analog file folders and painful searches. As a small home-based business with tons of documents both for business, personal, and critical information, this scanner is a dream! Easy to operate without issues and while it would be nice if it was wi-fi capable, it is nonetheless a welcome assett in my office…ready to use at a moments notice to eliminate the many pounds of paper-based ducuments that plague homes and businesses. The quality of the scans is far superior to an older Fujitsu unit that I relied on a few years ago. This scanner is much easier to use and I have had ZERO issues with scan quality, jams, or any other problems. As of this review, I have scanned at least 900 documents for categorization digitally and it has been a true boon for effective organization. Works extremely well on my internal network as well. All in all, I have no hesitation awarding FIVE STARS for a rating, and it has easily earned my honest and hearty recommendation for your document scanning needs!I hope the weight of my metal filing cabinets is not too much for the waste disposal truck when they see them on my curb! Superb and effective product…and another winner from Brother!

Lacks LCD and WIFI of 3300 and 4700 models…

Brother makes quality sheetfeed scanners. They all have 600×600 max resolution (higher with software interpolation, but if you need higher resolution than 600×600 you’ll want either higher hardware resolution or something like OnOne’s software to increase your image resolution in Lightroom or Photoshop). Most desktop sheetfeed scanners top out at 600×600, including even Epson’s FastFoto scanners which are specifically made for scanning photographs in high quality. There is some differentiation between scanner bands in ability to handle paper, but despite owning similar Fujitsu, Canon and Epson desktop scanners, I have noticed no major scanning differences between the four big brands. Nor does one brand have overwhelmingly better software than another, with one exception: if you are seeking a photo sheetfeed scanner, Epson’s FastFoto scanner’s photo scanning software is significantly better than my other sheetfeeed scanners. This is a fine desktop scanner. It handles and scans multiple documents well and produces good scans. This 4100 version is similar to the 3100 scanner, but with double the duplex scanning speed of either the 3100 or 3300 models–80 ppm vs 40 ppm. Thus, the argument for this scanner over the 3100 or 3300 is almost entirely speed of scanning. Otherwise, in software and other capabilities, this is almost identical to the 3100 while the 3300 has two features this scanner lacks: a touch LCD screen with preset buttons that can be defined for one-step sending of scans AND wifi connectivity which both this 4100 model and the 3100 model lack.So I would suggest either moving up to the equally fast 80 ppm 4700 scanner which has wifi as well as a larger LCD screen with more preset buttons than the 3300, or down to the 3300 which, though slower, has both wifi and a small LCD screen to control it.If you will be satisfied with only USB or ethernet connecting your scanner and computer, get this scanner. If you want remote operation, or you want to scan to a phone or tablet, get the 3300 or 4700 which not only have wifi, but with their preset buttons on the LCD screen permit easier operation away from your computer. At just a $20 increase in price for wifi and LCD screen options on the 3300, I strongly recommend the 3300 over the 4100. But if you want the increasded speed of the 4100m consider also the 4700 which has the same speed but includes both the LCD screen and wifi for $120 more. Finally, you may want to consider other software than that provided with the scanner if you are seriously into either photos or OCR. I have OmniPage for OCR and LIghtroom/Photoshop for photos.

    Great for bulk jobs

This is a desktop document scanner for offices. The scanner measures approximately 13”x11”x8”. You feed sheets through a slot on the top and they come out into a document tray on the bottom after processing. The document tray telescopes out as you need it and stores compressed for a smaller footprint. The scanner can be connected to a network using the Ethernet port or to a single computer using the included USB B to USB A cable. You can also scan directly to a USB flash or hard drive using the USB A port. Note that this model does not have Wifi connections, so you must plug into the Ethernet, USB A or USB B port. You may be able to use your phone or other wireless device with the scanner if you connect the scanner to your router via Ethernet cable if your router then provides the Wifi signal and connection to your phone. Standard software is included that lets you save your documents in pdf and Microsoft Office formats.I really like the speed of this scanner. It is soooo much faster than laying documents on a flat top scanner one at a time, and it is much smaller than our all-in-one printer/scanner unit with document feeder. And the duplexing works great—the scanner scans both sides of each page with a single pass. We connected this scanner to a desktop computer using the included USB cable and had no trouble setting up the scanner or the software. The software has all that we need for making pdfs, Word, and Excel documents. Controls on the scanner are quite intuitive. Overall, this is a mighty fast scanner with a small footprint.

    Worst purchase I’ve ever made

In less than a week of using this, I ended up returning the product. The machine would constantly get jammed and would need to be turned on and off. When I initiated the return, I was informed this product had alot of complains and many purchased were returned. So much so that they no longer would sell this product. Very disappointing bc i am such a fan of Brother products!

    fast and reliable

This is a great scanner, especially compared to our flat-top/glass-top scanner we got a couple of years ago. That one is finicky and has issues sometimes initializing and scanning. The Brother has no issues whatsoever and has been a champ with all kinds of documents given to it.Unfortunately the proprietary cord it comes with is a little short – I need to get a USB extension to put it where I want it. It does require some desk space, but has a minimal design that can be compacted a bit to have a smaller footprint with its document trays not extended. The shortcuts via the software are great, and there are some shortcuts as physical buttons that can be programmed as well. I love that I can make so many papers go away now with ease. The dual-sided scanning ability is nice and it’s pretty fast, making scanning packets, receipts, and documents of most kinds a breeze. I’m looking forward to many years of good service from it.

Excellent scanner, but could use a few more features

This scanner has a lot of things going for it – it is compact so it doesn’t take up a lot of room. The quality of the scan output is fantastic – it is great quality, and it is FAST. That is basically all this product does and it does it exceptionally well. If you have paper monsters in your home or office that you need to tame, this product will definitely help you do that efficiently.However…2 things, which are, unfortunately kind of big caveats:1. There no screen or any easy way to set it up. That’s a bit of a disappointment as it makes it a bit difficult to get up and running quickly.2. This is no wifi capability. I hate to say it, but it’s 2022 as of this writing. Wifi is literally everywhere…and having to connect this to a computer via an archaic USB cord is a “Are you kidding??” moment. I understand that they do have a product which is a “step up” from this that has wifi, which is around $20-30 more. At this price point ($350 as of this writing) that’s not a huge increase – so it makes me wonder why you wouldn’t just spend the extra and get THAT one instead of this one. It feels like they are poaching customers from themselves LOL. If this scanner was say, $150-200 max instead, then it would make sense to offer it as an alternative, cheaper item. But the price difference just isn’t much, and that marketing strategy really doesn’t compute.I am rating this a 4 star product based on functionality, but took a star off for what it lacks, which if it had, it would absolutely be a 5 star product, hands down.

very fast small scanner, not fan of the scanner app, no Wifi

My previous scanner is the Canon imageFORMULA DR-M160II. I donated Canon scanner to our health foundation where they have tons of paper that need to be digitized for easy storage.I am excited to have this Brother ADS-4300N Professional Desktop Scanner. It is less expensive than the Canon scanner. But I have a Brother all in one printer so I know price can not judge the effectiveness of a electronic before you try it.Setting up to connect with the laptop is not hard but took a while to download everything recommended by the website. To my surprise, this model does not have Wifi connection and phone connection is not possible? In a way, my all in one Brother printer is more convenient to use because I can scan from my phone app. Also, the scanner does not have a LCD screen. A little hard to know that status of the scanner.Scanning speed is fast one everything is setup. I am intrigued by how “primitive” the scanner app is for the laptop. It does work but I like Canon’s program’s user interface. Maybe I am already used to Canon’s program and just does not want to learn the new way. In a way, I think the app for all in one printer is more user friendly.Overall, this is a good functional scanner. I am just not fan of its app. 4-star for Brother ADS-4300N Scanner.

As a family that provides foster care to children, the amount of paperwork coming through our home is extraordinary. This item has helped immensely at keeping things under control. Although I do appreciate it’s functionality, there are just a couple of things that could use some improvement. No WiFi? No ability to work with your phone? For obvious reasons, I’m genuinely shocked. And it certainly needs a screen interface for operation.

Although I do appreciate it’s functionality, there are just a couple of things that could use some improvement. No WiFi? No ability to work with your phone? For obvious reasons, I’m genuinely shocked. And it certainly needs a screen interface for operation.
