The padding is great for the shoulder

I have purchased several other products from Altura (aka Digital Goja) in the recent past. I did so because they are clearly staking their claim for selling high quality products to consumers for under those exorbitant brand name prices. As of this date, with all of their products that I have received so far, they seem to be doing just that! These straps (I purchased two for my daughter) are not “Black Rapids”, but then again, they are far from some flimsy, generic knockoff. The padding is great for the shoulder. There’s a zip pocket on the padding, with a memory card organizer inside. The strap appears to be strong enough to hold up most average weight dslr’s with even a big lens attached. I also notices that the stitching throughout is also very good. Lastly, this neck strap, even with it’s very solid camera screw/plate attachment, comes with an additional “tether” just in case the screw in becomes unloose and detaches. I have two Black Rapids camera strap, and paid 3 times the cost as these Altura’s – but still had to purchase separate tethers as a backup. Altura solves this all in one great price! Altura camera straps for my daughter who is following in my photographic footsteps. I’m happy at the quality of the straps and I’m elated that my daughter could not stop smiling as she put these straps on her dslr and digital camcorder! This was a win win all the way!

    Definitly works.

I believe I got an earlier version that didn’t have the safety strap, but just had a camera lug connection strap on the webbing and of course the quick disconnect which attached to the tripod mount base plate. That being said, with the horror stories I’ve read about the tripod screw mount failing, I’m glad the standard lug mount is included, as I usually have it attached to the strap lugs on my camera–which is were the camera is designed to support it’s weight. In fact, the only time I use the mounting plate/quick connect is on a tripod foot of a long lens since they can usually take more forces than the plastic bottom of a DSLR.That being said, the across-the-body shoulder harness is quite comfortable compared to the neck straps out there and for distributing load–especially with a heavier lens attached. Using the strap lug on the camera keeps it secure and at your waist/hip and within your control. The shoulder pad is comfortable enough and doesn’t really slide unless the weight of the camera is taken off of it. The interior of the shoulder pad can hold a typical Nikon battery (tightly, but it can do it) as well as spare SD cards or anything else small you might need.I would definitely recommend this, but only so far as mounting it to one of your camera strap lugs…not the tripod screw base–especially if you use heavier lenses.

    Buy it

I saw this strap on a professional photographer friend’s camera and I ordered it immediately. The design and comfort are excellent. There is a non slip comfortable pad for your shoulder. There is a long but narrow zippered pocket in the pad with two slots for SD cards. The pocket is barely wide enough for my extra batteries but it is a tight squeeze. It does not fit my 51 millimeter filters.Attachment can be a little tricky. There is a YouTube video available online with instructions. The base plate attaches to the tripod screw. There is still capability to use the tripod without removing the plate. There is a spring clip that attaches to the plate. The spring is strong enough to prevent accidental release. There is a narrow strap that can be used to permanently attach to the plate. I, instead, used this to attach to the strap side clip on my camera for extra security. I may remove it once I trust the clip completely. The camera hangs comfortably over my shoulder and it is easy to raise it for picture taking.I wish the pocket on the strap were a little wider to fit more accessories. I may look for a small pouch that attaches to the strap for this.Overall a great design and a comfortable strap.Buy it

    Better than I thought

After reading so many one star reviews, I became a lot more cautious about this product. But after opening the package, I tried very hard to see how one can break this thing. As an adult man there is no way I can break any of the metal joints with my bare hands. I think I just need to use a tool to tighten up the plate and the screw onto the camera because this is where the other reviewers had troubles: the screw became loose and they didn’t know about it. Other than that, all I have to do is to adjust the length of the belt to make sure the camera will hang below my waist and to the point that I would like it to be. Overall I am satisfied. And I’m sure I am just as happy as I would be if I’m to choose something else more expensive. If I have to say something negative about this product, I just wish there is another quick release (not the kind of connection provided which you can not release it quickly and easily) at the end of the safety strip, so that I can release the camera completely.

Great price, great quality, but with a significant design flaw.

Let’s face it, this does the same thing that my BlackRapid does, but for about 1/3 of the cost. I love the fact that it has a small pocket. It’s comfortable, easily adjustable, and the strap is really decent quality. Unlike the BlackRapid, it’s a better fit for women (who happen to have breast . . . . sorry guys, just a fact of life!) as it’s a bit thinner in the right spots. However, one problem is that with movement, the bottom plate swivels. This causes two big problems. 1) The plate swivels and it starts hanging the wrong way so the plate sticks out from the camera scratching me. 2) It eventually loosens itself.Yes, it comes with a safety tether, but . . . why not design it right from the beginning? And, I fear that all the friction is going to damage the part where it screws into my camera. The clamp and carabiner does not feel as sturdy as it should be. It simply makes me nervous to use it with heavier equipment. I have a Nikon D-750 and D-810 that I use with a heavy 24-70mm regularly. Oh so close . . .still needs some work! The advertisement, it’s pretty spot on. You get what you expect. Except that I don’t think it’s easy at all to mount it to a tripod. Having to screw the plate to he bottom of this really time consuming and awkward! You do have to take it off all the way and then mount your tripod plate. Thus far, I have been very impressed with the quality of products from this brand and their price points. I will keep an eye on the to see what else they come up with. Hopefully they will be able to fix these problems in the future.

Very Comfortable, High Quality, High Value!

As an enthusiast Photographer I always have my camera secured, I can’t afford to replace items broken from drops hand holding. I did get tired of the cameras neck strap, so I tried a wrist grip (not any from Altura) and this Rapid Fire neck strap. I didn’t like the wrist strap FWIW but some most like it. I won’t use “love” to describe an item, but I am very happy and can’t see how anything could be better, especially with the price. This thing is excellent! Its as comfortable as it looks. Its as fast as you are, the limits do keep the camera at the same place. There is a tether, in case the camera come free. I don’t see this happening. But it gives you a very secure feeling. The first thing you notice when you open it, is it seems like it should cost around $50 or even $70, for a solid, well built, dSLR strap of this quality. Since I have two dSLRs I bought another tether only, so I can just quickly screw this on and hook up the tether that’s already on the dSLR. I have used it for a few months now, I always wait before a review if I give one. A lot of times I don’t rate products. But this is one I can recommend, high value!

Rating a 5 only because you can’t give 6 stars – Excellent strap

I wish Amazon allowed for SIX stars for this item! I absolutely love everything about this camera strap (see photos). It has made walk-around shooting so much more convenient and comfortable. I feel that purchase was a great value, and the strap well constructed, quality material. The strap allows your camera to hang in a convenient, out-of-the way position on your body, but always at the ready for a quick shot.I purchased this strap before a vacation that took me from the breathtaking Rocky Mountains to beautiful streets of Boston, Massachusetts. I was hoping to find a more comfortable way to carry my DSLR with a hefty 70-200 zoom. This strap far exceeded my expectations for comfort and after spending several days walking around with this rig, quickly put to rest my fear of damage due to strap or mount failure. The strap is sturdy and the mount stayed secure the entire time. I used, and would recommend the same to all, a tether which acts as a fail-safe if the snap or mount would break loose. While this has yet to happen to me – it did give me piece of mind and kept me from worrying about my beloved camera meeting the pavement unexpectedly. If you are looking for an alternative to the standard, around the neck strap, and want your camera always at the ready for a quick shot – this is the product for you.

Some of the reviews don’t seem to be for this item. This strap is very nice, and has more than I expected for the price.

This strap has everything I wanted and worried about looking at others. First It does have a screw mounting plate to secure it to the bottom of the camera. The plate extends to the side (in my case the left hand side) where I can clip it on to the camera. **Note that the exterior of the plate is threaded allowing it to be attached to a tripod without removing the plate.** I remember someone complaining that he had to take off the plate to use a tripod, but I have no idea why? So, since I won’t be removing it from the camera I also attached the safety strap through the normal wrist-strap connection to the camera. (if the clip connection fails the safety strap will still hold the camera from from the ground. The strap also has a brake that will help keep the camera in front of you instead of falling to the side. The shoulder strap is very long and took some time to adjust to get the feel good. The shoulder pad has a zippered pouch, but since the weight of your camera is on the pad any items in the pouch become pressure points on your shoulder, so mine is empty except for my modification. I put a bit of high density foam in it to give additional cushion. Overall I am very pleased with this item, it was much better than I expected.

… strap a couple years ago and have been very pleased. It is sturdy and comfortable to wear

I bought this strap a couple years ago and have been very pleased. It is sturdy and comfortable to wear. I would, however, make two design change suggestions to Altura. I believe the first they have already addressed which is the safety tether. When I bought mine the safety tether was secured to the strap by means of a plastic attachment. The tether could not be separated from the strap nor easily removed from the camera. So although you could disconnect the camera from the strap by using the metal clip it was still attached to it by the tether. Altura seems to have addressed this on the newer straps by replacing the plastic attachment with a carabiner that is detachable. The second recommendation that I would make, that may or may not have been addressed on the newer models, is for the shoulder pad. On mine there is no way to secure the shoulder pad to the strap. The pad is constantly sliding down the strap and it is an ongoing struggle for me to readjust the pad to sit on top of my shoulder. Other than these two things I have been very pleased and would have given it a five star rating otherwise.

    Great strap

This strap is designed very well. The camera slides up the strap easily when lifting it to take a shot, while the shoulder pad stays in place. The extra safety tether is a smart addition as a backup safety mechanism.

    A life saver!

I can be clumsy at times and this was not going to be another incident of mine. I was very scared to drop my camera and I wanted something that would help me out a lot and this became my best friend! It’s very simple to put together as well!

    Great Camera Strap.

I purchased this strap for use on a trip to Europe. I have a Nikon D750 with a Nikkor 28-300mm lens. It is a very heavy camera to carry for long periods of time using the Nikon camera strap. This strap was very comfortable all day long. Plus it made it easy to keep a hand on the camera at all times when not taking pictures. It is definitely worth the price.

The 1/4-20 threads may be too long for your camera

I haven’t been in the habit of using a camera strap, but lately I have had cause to use both hands for posing or lighting, so I bought the goja strap. I like the single point connection and the sliding clip. I use this on my left shoulder over the strap on my Bevis Top shelf sling bag on my right shoulder and it works perfectly to allow me to let go of my camera and use the bag simultaneously. The only issue I have with this strap is the fact that the treads on the mounting screw were a touch long for the insert in my Fuji XT3. I’ve noticed that the smaller cameras have shallower 1/4-20 threads in them. My solution for this is to file the screw down a bit so that it threads all of the way into the camera. Make sure to thread a nut onto the screw before you file it so that the threads that are left will not be damaged. Over all the strap is made well and does the job goja says it does.

    GREAT PRODUCT

It has been said that the harness moves around on the strap and never stays in place. That may have been the case when they first came out with this product but since then this harness has been sewn to the strap to keep it from slipping. As for the screw coming loose, the one attached to where the tripod goes I find the BEST way, for me at least, is to affix the metal plate so that when you are carrying the camera at your side this plate is oriented in line with the strap (straight up and down). When I say in-line I mean that the plate is pointing upwards in the same direction were it meets the hook.I find the strap to be a very comfortable fit and it is adustable to suit one’s height. I am 5’5″ and it works fine for me.As for the equipment I have. I carry a Sony A7RII with a Sony 24-70 f/2.8 GM lens. I find that the strap holds up rather nicely to it with no problems whatsoever. The plate could be attached to the tripod; however, it is somewhat cumbersome when hooking the camera up to a tripod unless you remove the strap first. When it comes to the safety strap I hook it to the camera itself rather than hooking it to the plate. That’s just my preference just in case the screw on the plate does come off or the screw holding the the hook to the strap breaks this way the body of my camera will catch the camera keeping it from falling to the ground. It will work if you hook the safety strap to the plate itself but I feel safer hooking it to the camera body since I feel that, that is more trustworthy. My kit only came with one tether safety strap. As for the zipper compartment I find that a plus because with my camera I have to carry several back up batteries with me because Sony A7RII is not known for its battery life and rather than carry them in my pocket the strap makes a nice place for this. Also, because I have this zipper compartment I find that I do not need to carry a camera bag around with me since I keep the camera slug over my shoulder throughout all the time I am or am not taking photos. For the price you can’t go wrong with this camera strap setup. I’m sure it has some flaws but I have yet to find anything that is terribly wrong for the price. In time I’m sure things will start going bump in the night but that is the same with anything you buy. If you want something to last considerably longer then you’re going to pay for it but for the price of this strap it is worth taking the chance on it and, in my case, it has worked out thus far.One last thing. I find this strap my better than the sony strap that came with the camera. It not only makes taking picutres more enjoyable but feel more comfortable when carrying your camera/lens around all day taking pictures. I LOVE THIS STRAP. Like some of the others I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. Thank you.

    Altura VS Waka

Camera: Sony A7iiiSo if anyone is in between the Altura and the Waka one like I was: Waka is WinnerI’ve been using the Waka for about 1.5 years now and I recently misplaced mine somewhere that prompted me to try out the Altura that I had around.Bottom Plate:Both plates will protrude just a tiny (very tiny) bit out but I find that the Waka one forms better with the edges and curves of the A7iii camera body. The Altura is rounder with the Waka is a square.Key features that I never knew made my life easier:1) The “Ring Hole” on the adjustment strap to tighten and loosen it to your body. The Altura has a tightening mech but it isn’t even remotely smooth like the Waka. You often times had to use two hands to do so which while taking pictures at key moments, could ruin the timing. The Waka is a simple one finger pull up, pull down – Smooth – Easy. Believe it or not, this was the biggest plus and a feature I never knew I would miss.2) With the right adjustments on the Waka, the camera body itself, while on your side, never felt like it was snagging on to its own straps or your body. The Altura however felt like every single time you adjusted the tightening strap you would need to adjust everything else or else it’ll feel awkward and weird and even the shoulder pad becomes off centered.- The pouch is nice but I never really used it for much. Maybe carried an extra SD card but I wouldn’t throw in batteries.Overall though, it’s a fine strap for general purposes. But I would would go for the Waka. Plus you save some money too for a better design and material.

Great product, can’t wait to use it.

I bought this to go with my Canon camera, I am tired of it hanging around my neck. This should be just the thing I have been looking for. Haven’t used it yet, but it looks great on my camera.

    Getting used to

This is the first time I buy a camera strap, different from the ones Nikon cameras come with. I like the quality of the strap and I find helpful the safety tether, even tough I believe it takes time to get some practice to handle the strap faster. Hope it will last long and so far no complaint about it.

    Blown Away!

I tried the Canon 5D Mark III strap that came with the camera, it was umcomfortable and kept bouncing the camera against my chest. Then I tried the hand strap and it was more of a burden than it was a blessing. So for awhile I was just free holding the camera since it felt most comfortable to me.I was browsing around and saw this Rapid Fire neck strap, and I’m not asking myself how I lived without it!I use a Canon 5D Mark III with a battery extender (Heavy). While this strap is on I can literally barely feel the camera attached to me, it does great at dispersing the weight. What it does even better is support the 24-70 2.8L attached with no issues at all. I even threw the gigantic Tamron 70-200 f2.8 DiVC on and it did start unscrewing the bottom plate a little, but it did good enough that I would still leave that lens attached if I needed it out in the field. The reason I wouldn’t mind all that weight being on there even unscrewing the plate a little is because they include a safety harness clip that attaches straight from camera to strap so worst case scenario the plate came undone, the camera would not be hitting the ground.I am very pleased with the quality and how fast it is to slide the camera up, take a photo, and lay it back down on my side to continue walking. Highly recommend to any photographer that is not sitting still in a studio with a tripod!

Extremely comfortable, practical – AWESOME strap!

If you are still using the basic strap that came with your camera, do yourself a favor and throw that thing away and order this one. Nice cameras are heavy. The basic straps expect you to use the back of your neck to support the weight of that camera. It’s uncomfortable, and it interferes with your ability to work with your subject for posing, etc because a camera hanging in front of your body becomes a swinging pendulum when you lean forward/towards a sitting subject for posing. Ever suffered the embarrassment of your camera popping a child on the head when you’re trying to pose them? I have and it was horrible. THIS strap is a cross body strap. Very generous in length. If you have a larger chest area oftentimes cross body straps can be too short, not the case here. Easy to adjust the length if you need it shorter. The clip and o – ring that attaches to your camera body are sturdily made of metal. Not cheap plastic. The weight of your camera sits comfortably on your shoulder, not on your neck. The best part…The camera hangs at your side and can EASILY be slipped behind your body so when you’re posing subjects (especially leaning over children) you don’t have to worry about your hefty camera bumping into their head. I cannot say enough good things about this strap! Don’t suffer through another photo session with the uncomfortable and impractical strap that manufacturers send you with the camera. The picture I attached is the metal clip/plate that attaches to the bottom of the camera to secure the strap to the camera body.

    Very nice

I picked this up for my new Panasonic G7 as it’s heavier than my previous camera and the neck strap that comes with it just wasn’t cutting it anymore. After using it for a few days I’m so happy with my purchase. The weight of my camera is much better distributed with the comfortable shoulder pad, and I love how it sits on my hip and can be grabbed easily for photos, but is out of the way. I don’t miss having the camera bound around on my chest. It’s also very comfortable to just have my right hand at my side on the camera, but not really holding it. This make it very stable and is much more comfortable than holding the camera in front of you on a neck strap, as I and many others have done. The quality is solid, and I like the small zipper pocket, although I did try to get a filter in there and it didn’t fit, so it’s only for small items. I also very much like the attaching mechanism, it seems very secure, is made of metal with a padded side so it doesn’t scuff up the bottom of your camera, and it even has a thread for attaching the camera to a tripod while it’s still attached. The clasp mechanism is also metal and seems very high quality and secure.I bought this instead of the luma loop, which is similar, but leather and much more expensive. Very happy I bought this instead. Overall, highly recommended.

    better than the neck strap

I like this much better than the neck strap that came with my 80D. It is much more comfortable, especially with lenses like the 70-200mm attached, or the 17-55mm (heavy lenses). Clip is strong, and padding is comfy (though mine is always slipping off my shoulder when I use my camera a lot). The plate that attaches to the camera is solid, and has threading so that it can be mounted to a tripod without removing the plate. I asked Altura if I can get a second plate as a spare, and they said not really, but offered to give a discount on a second strap (I declined this offer). There are also a pair of clips that allow you to set the range the camera can move on the strap. So if you want it on your side, you can set it so that it won’t slide to your back, or if you want it closer to your chest, you can do that too.I removed one star for how easily the plate can slide around. Mine constantly needs to be repositioned, and tightened. There is a piece of rubber on it to help prevent this, but it doesn’t do much when you have a heavy lens on it.For it’s price, it was worth checking out, and I use mine pretty constantly with my camera.

    Fantastic choice for my needs!

I came to this with very specific needs: I needed a camera strap that was cross-body, rugged, could get tthe camera up and into play super fast, had a very secure backup strap to it, and had absolutely no plastic buckles that could fail. This was all that and more. For people who need that level of security *and* access I cannot recommend this strap enough.

    BEST $20 EVER SPENT. EVER.

I tell everyone that I can that this item was the best $20 I ever spent. And I stand by that statement. If you are a photographer and you DON’T have a shoulder strap, stop right now, buy this product, and watch it totally change how you do your job.All cameras come with a neck strap, which is a good gesture. But the camera is always in the way when you need to use your hands or bouncing uncomfortably off your chest as you move. This product resolves both of those issues. It puts the camera comfortably at your hip, eliminating neck and back strain from a neck strap. When you need to take a picture, your camera is right at your fingertips. This frees up your hands to open doors, carry items, move an object, etc, without worrying about where your camera is.There is a MINOR risk of your camera bumping into chairs and tables as you sit down, stand up, or walk around, but I’ve used this product so much that I subconsciously hold my camera out of the way of such objects. Seriously, this product is great, and I would buy it a dozen times over.

Bracket does not fit my camera

I was unable to fasten the bracket to my camera. the threads on the camera body and the brqcket were woo shallow to affix the bracket to the camera. I returned the strap to Amazon.

Moves around too much and not good for short people

I wish this strap was as good as all of the reviews I read were. To start, this strap is WAY better than the Canon neck strap it came with which wasn’t padded and would hurt my neck. I do like the backup tether which gave me a piece of mind if the screw broke off. Storage is a very nice touch and liked being able to carry spare cards, batteries, etc. in it.What I didn’t like which I felt everyone else failed to mention was how much the pad moved around after you take a camera shot. I always need to readjust so that the pad is on my shoulder which gets annoying after awhile. Sometimes it felt like the strap would accidentally fall off of my shoulder if I wasn’t careful. It doesn’t feel “smooth” taking the shot and then putting the camera down by my side. By far the worst part of the strap is how limited I could shorten it. I’m 5’2″ and even as short as it’d go, it wasn’t enough and didn’t like how it’d feel hanging in which I am currently looking at other options for camera straps. I also didn’t like how there’s not much on the strap to hold up any excess webbing. I had to use a binder clip to keep the excess strap from banging around. While this strap is a good alternative to any OEM strap for its value, I don’t recommend it for short people.

works well for a sony a6000

I have carried my Sony a6000 with a 300mm zoom lens on this sling for an average of 10 to 15 miles a week so far this spring and summer. Sometimes much longer. I have not experienced some of the problems other reviewers have but the Sony a6000 is a lighter weight camera. One issue that does occur is that the mounting plate that allows the sling to attach to the camera will work itself around in a counter clockwise motion and will loosen the mounting screw. I find myself checking it frequently while walking. I have not experienced any failures. What has happened is my camera is now much faster to deploy ( I like to photography wildlife) and more comfortable to wear for long periods. I do not use this rig for cycling. In my opinion it is not well suited for that application, I prefer a handlebar mounted bag for that purpose. The pocket contained in the shoulder strap is good for small items such as spare memory cards. Spare batteries tend to dig into my shoulder a bit when I put them in that pocket. all in all I am happy with the purchase.

The sling could use a little more padding, the attachment to the camera base is rather long, with no option to purchase a smaller base attachment. Definitely purchase the safety setup. Plus you can wear it over either shoulder.

Has held up well under heavy use

I have been using this strap very heavily since I bought it about a year ago, normally with a pretty heavy camera/lens, a Canon 5D and a 24-70 f2.8 lens. Sometimes I’ve even used it with a massive 150-600 lens, or a 70-200 f2.8. It has never felt as though it couldn’t handle the weight.I carry my camera with me a lot, so I’ve worn it multiple times per week, almost every week, for over a year. It has held up very well, considering how much I’ve used it. At this point, the nylon strap has frayed and worn just bit from the camera buckle sliding back and forth on it, and the metal buckle/hook that hooks onto the metal plate that bolts to the bottom of the camera has actually begun to get worn through. Yes, the metal hook itself is actually wearing from how much the camera has been hanging off of it. But again, I can’t fault the strap for these things, just due to how extremely much I’ve used it.The secondary strap is nice, as it makes the camera a little more stable when hanging at your side, and gives an extra reassurance that the camera would not fall even if the primary buckle and metal plate ever failed somehow. I will probably buy another one of these soon since this one is getting somewhat worn, but it has served me very well and has always given me confidence in carrying my camera around.A few things I changed to make this strap work better…I saw one review on here showing that the bolt that threads into the camera to hold it onto the metal plate had snapped. You can find replacement bolts made of stainless steel elsewhere on Amazon that will work with this strap. Not a bad investment just for piece of mind, and a multi-thousand dollar camera/lens is probably worth spending another $5 on a better quality bolt to ensure this never happens. If you use the secondary strap that threads through one of the normal neck strap eyelets, this makes the strap much harder to completely install or remove from the camera (you have to undo the buckle attaching the strap to the eyelet on the camera.) To fix this, I cut this strap, and sewed in a plastic quick release buckle in the middle of it (I think it’s technically called a “parachute buckle”,) so I can easily connect and disconnect the camera from the strap, even when using the secondary strap. This is also helpful because the camera slides up and down the strap much easier when not using the secondary strap. So, sometimes when I’m actively taking photos, I disconnect the secondary strap.I also used a couple safety pins to pin the strap to the shoulder pad. Without this, sometimes the strap slides back and forth through the shoulder pad as you slide the camera up and down the strap. Pinning the strap to the shoulder pad keeps the strap in place relative to the shoulder pad, and ensures that when the shoulder pad is positioned on your shoulder, the part of the strap that runs across your chest is free of buckles and obstructions, allowing the camera to freely slide up and down it.Finally, this is probably a little overkill, but I ran a thin, vinyl coated steel cable along the whole strap, through the buckles that hold the camera, through the shoulder pad, and crimped it to itself. This is basically just a redundancy for the strap itself. Since the camera and lens I hang off of this strap is worth nearly $4000, I wanted one more redundancy so that even if something crazy happened and one of the plastic buckles on this strap somehow failed, or the strap itself broke, there would still be a steel cable there to catch the camera before it fell to the ground. This is probably not totally necessary as again, the strap itself has never shown any signs of failing.

    Great design

Thos is better then expected. It is a very well thought oit product. Very happy with it. Has lots of variables to it. The camera can be carried located on the hip which wasnt stated in the ad. Can carry on the front i exspected. There are so many ways to adjust this shoulder strap i am sure there is a position that will make uou happy. Hated the common strap that came with camera. Very annoying on my neck n the lenses was always positioned out in front. This strap gives me the option to be comfortable.

One of my few 5-star reviews, this thing absolutely works! Beats cheezy neck straps for security and comfort.

This thing works very well. I’ve been using the typical neck strap that comes with the camera, I’m using a Canon EOS 70D. It’s not terribly heavy, yet it can become a bit heavier after a day with it on my neck. I’m -old-, and gravity, well, it’s the law. Stuff gets heavier after you carry it a while. Not only that, walking with the camera suspended by a neckstrap is just awkward. It inevitably swings and bounces out of time with my walking pace. It’s just not comfortable, plus the strap that comes with my camera has a bright Canon name printed on it. Unfortunately, there’s a few that look at things like that and feel an urge to relieve someone of the weight. So, I started looking at options, like what the pros use. I spotted a couple of them using straps similar to this, so shopped around, did my homework and got one. This one met all my needs. It’s very well-made so it supports the weight without causing sore spots. It’s comfortable, and when I walk the camera hangs naturally, comfortably, at my side, bouncing very little after I got it set up right. That is, the length of it holding the camera at just the right point against your body, the attachment plate secured in the right place on the camera to balance it and let it hang naturally. It has a slot in the plate the attachment knob/bolt slides in, so you can balance your particular camera like you want it, and the strap itself has a substantial adjustment range, so you can find your sweet spot, requiring merely an occasional light touch to restrain it when you’re moving. It allows me to easily lift the camera to my face to take pictures without even releasing the clip. There’s a small strap that can firmly secure the shoulder sling to the camera all the time, allowing a little more freedom when you release the clip yet still keeping it securely to you. And, if/when I need to put the camera on the monopod or tripod, it’s easy to unscrew the connected plate from the camera bottom so it’s free. Life camera, take pics, then lower it back to your side, it’s not even disconnected, the connection slides easily on the strap. Folks, I’m an engineer. I like things that work well, the form and function make sense. This is one of those. I can see this thing lasting a lifetime, or mine and my son’s lifetimes. It’s basic black, not gaudy or something that says “Expensive camera here!”. And, also important, unlike some I’ve seen on Amazon, this thing is very fairly priced. So, I’m glad I bought this thing. I gave it one of my rare five-star ratings. If I somedamnhow got rich, and was replacing all of my camera gear, I’d get this same one again. I didn’t “settle” for something cheap, I bought the thing I thought had the best chance of doing what I wanted. It was delivered as/when expected, packed well, and upon close inspection when it arrived, I found no poor seams, loose threads, or other signs of hasty, less-than-optimal construction. I heartily recommend this product to you. Crabby

It was kind of confusing at first to figure out the adjustments, turns out I had it on backwards. There is not any instructions with it, just a picture. It is sturdy and the bracket was heavy duty. The only issue I had was when attaching to a tripod, there is movement. Not real sold on the actual hook, we will see how long it last

Fantastic camera strap, comfortable, vast improvement over regular neck strap, great value.

Wow! Great camera strap!! I wanted something that would be an improvement over a “regular” neck strap without spending a ton of money. This strap is far exceeding my expectations. I absolutely love it!I’ve been using the Altura camera strap for about 6 weeks now. In that time, I’ve taken the camera on at least 8 or 10 family outings that lasted several hours or more. This strap is comfortable! I I’ve worn the camera for hours at a time. The pad on the strap distributes the weight well. With the old neck strap, my camera spent most of the time hanging from our kids’ stroller when we went to these events. Not so any more!I have not had problems with the pad sliding out of place. When I lift the camera to use it, the camera slides easily on the strap. The few times the pad moves, it’s usually when I am moving around while I have the camera up and ready. The strap makes it easy to get back in place, though. There are “keepers” on the strap itself that you can set – when I move the camera back down, the camera slides freely until it reaches the keeper, then pulls the strap into the right position. (There are two keepers, one for each end, so it works the same way in the other direction too!)I found it very easy to adjust the strap to have the camera hang comfortably at my side, at easy reach for my hand. Makes it very nice to catch a quick photo that I might have missed (especially if that camera had been hanging on the stroller, like I mentioned earlier). It’s quite comfortable, not banging against my side as I walk. It’s also easy to reposition the camera if it’s in the way, helping a child wash hands for example! Not so easy to reposition a camera on a neck strap.I really like the features Altura put into this strap. The zippered compartment is nice for a couple small items, like a lens cleaning cloth, spare memory card, or maybe even spare battery if you are lucky (the battery for my camera is just a fraction too large to fit, but oh well). The safety tether is one feature that got me interested in the Altura over some competitors with similar overall designs.I am pleased with the quality of the materials and construction. While it’s “only” been 6 weeks, I’ve now worn it hours on end while I am chasing around my three year old kids outdoors (plural, three year old twins!). I think that’s a pretty good test for a camera strap.I am extremely pleased with the Altura strap. I think it’s an incredible value, too.

    New design functional and comfortable

I have used the common strap which simply goes around the neck, and have found that my neck and shoulders get fatigued and sore after a couple hours. I was interested to try this new (to me, at least) design for comfort. I did not yet know if it would be convenient, but for me, the answer was yes.During my trip to Alaska, I used one strap with my Canon DSLR with largish zoom lens. I was pleased with the comfort and convenience of this cross body strap. I had been concerned that the camera would ‘dangle’ and hit on objects as I passed during my hike. I attempted to avoid this issue by making the strap short; it did adjust enough although I am not tall. I found it convenient to pull up the camera into position and shoot quickly.I was so pleased with the comfort that I used a second strap (also adjusted to a short length) and second camera with a wider angle lens the next day. I positioned one so the camera hung to my left, and the other across the other shoulder so it hung to my right. I did get a few strange looks from people taking photos with their cell phones, but ignored them.Using two cameras on two straps was very convenient and comfortable. I felt that my cameras were secure, too. I had no trouble adjusting to two cameras, despite my uncertainty. Before I purchased two of these straps, I searched for other straps which would accommodate two cameras, but could not find one ‘rig’ that seemed convenient, although most of them hung in front, and some had straps which looked as if they would relieve shoulder and neck stress. I did not find one that looked convenient to use.My experience with two cameras and two straps, hung in opposite directions (one over left shoulder, the other over right shoulder) worked very well for me. If I only wanted to use one camera, I did not have the extra rigging of the alternative design. I will add that removing extra straps, (such as the old one I had for around my neck) removed clutter and made handling two cameras more convenient.I intend to use this strap all the time. I recommend it to others with the same requirements I have.

    Comfortable shoulder strap

I’ve had this strap for a couple years now and I love it. I use a Canon 7DII and trust this strap to hold it without worries of dropping it. I enjoy hiking and this strap is good for keeping the camera at my side or behind my back most of the time. The only problems I’ve had with hiking are when I am climbing up rocky terrain and need to lean forward to use my arms to climb. That said, I think it does it’s job most of the time when I am not climbing up rocks and leaning forward the whole time. It is also easy to adjust and I like that I can easily make it larger/smaller depending on the clothes I am wearing (summer tank tops vs. winter coats).I wear mostly tank tops in the summer and am often hiking around western Colorado and Utah where it is really hot and dry and I end up sweating a lot. Most straps bother my neck and shoulders while hiking but I like this one because I have very little to no irritation from the strap. The non-stick inner surface isn’t uncomfortable on bare skin and the rest of the strap doesn’t really bother me. Like I said, it doesn’t really move around once you put it in place. My only issue is that the rubber on the mount has been partially rubbed off. I blame the fact that I was using a Sigma 150-600mm lens (~8 lbs with camera) that causes the mount to twist due to the weight. When I use smaller lenses such as my Canon 17-55mm I have no issues with twisting or movement from the mount after I initially tighten it. That being said, I’m a bit paranoid about my camera gear so I often test the mounting screw during long hikes but aside from the big lens I don’t see it moving. The mounting plate is metallic and seems sturdy. I’ve read about some people having problems with the back-up strap but I treat it as just that- a last resort back-up in case you accidentally undo the main mount (which has never happened to me).Overall I like this strap and prefer it over normal neck straps that are not meant to be used on shoulders and cause the camera to move around as you walk. It’s very stable and feels sturdy and trustworthy. Don’t overload it with a huge camera/lens and you should be fine.

Camera strap keeps weight off the neck, but hits against hip

The attachment is sturdy; I had no worries the camera was going to detach from the strap (which is screwed into the tripod holder). And the strap definitely takes the weight off the neck, since is goes cross body. But I didn’t like that the camera swings a bit and hits on the hip, even when adjusted as directed. I ended up holding the weight of the camera off my hip and it got too heavy after several hours.

This is more than a simple camera strap!

I ordered this for my daughter, though she insisted that she was buying one for my birthday present. No matter it ended up in the family. Now, to the review. I received it in a plastic sack, and given the features of the strap, I underestimated how small it would pack down. First of all, this is not a simple strap, as the product name implies. It’s more of a camera suspension system. Certainly, it is far more than the strap you receive with a new camera. Pulling it out of the package, it wasn’t immediately apparent how it should go together. There are instructions, and if you study them a bit, it all becomes apparent. Please note that there is a small, but very important safety strap that will retain your camera, if the normal connection fails. Rather than dropping your camera on the concrete, it will save the day if the very substantial main attachment plate disengages. It may take a bit to put it together, and adjust the strap to proper length for your physiology. After that, the camera hangs comfortably at your side, and all you need do is lift it into position for the shot. The camera slides up the strap easily, and when you’re finished you simply lower it back to your side, as the camera slides back down the strap. There is no problem using a larger DSLR, and connecting a hulking Canon 70-300mm L series lens will give you no trouble. After lugging a heavy rig around for several hours, I noticed I wasn’t feeling the aches and pains I’d normally get with a conventional “stock” neck strap. The included pad is large, and thick enough to make a difference. The metal hardware pieces are substantial and well made, but you might want to put a bit of gaffer’s tape in strategic locations if you want to maintain a pristine on some of the metal surfaces of your camera. Of course, that is a concern for any strap system using metal, but the construction quality of these attach fittings make the small protective effort worth it. Were I to criticize the product at all, I’d recommend that the manufacturer enclose a more detailed instruction sheet in the packaging to allow things to go together more quickly. This is a bit more complex than a simple camera strap, and might seem daunting at first. However, once it is completed, you’ll marvel at how ingenious the whole rig is. After using it for a bit, I do believe I’m going to buy one for myself!

    Very satisfied with this purchase

Very satisfied with this purchase. Lately I’ve avoided bringing my DSLR on hiking trips because of the weight, but this strap is a lifesaver. It comfortably holds my 5d with 24-105mm at my hip and the camera doesn’t move around too much when walking. I can’t believe the difference after using a neck strap for so long. The padding is great and the slippage is minor, but you will have to reset the position throughout the day. For reference, I’m 5’11” with a fairly slim build and I like having the camera hang low. You can’t do better for the price. I bought the Joby tether for insurance and purposely broke off the plastic backup tether that this strap comes with.Critiques:- Base mount does move. I’ve tried screwing it in pretty tight but it still slips, so the backup tether is a necessity for me.- Using the backup tether makes the “quick release” function useless.- The plastic tether that comes with this strap can’t be removed without breaking it. I won’t miss it, but it would have been nice if I didn’t have to snap it off with pliers.- Zipper pouch on the padding is nice for memory and lens wipes but my batteries don’t fit.Responses to other reviews:- “You can’t use it with a heavy camera.” Yes, you can, and there’s no comparison to neck straps (even trying those over the shoulder is a pain).- “If you tighten the strap, you will have excess hanging in the way.” There’s an elastic band on the strap for this very reason. Fold the excess back on itself a few times, making sure to pass through the band, and you’ll be fine.- “It digs into my neck” – I think this strap works best when the camera hangs low. Tighten it too much and I can see how it would ride up your neck.- “My camera flops around” – Lighter cameras are more likely to do this. Heavier bodies will keep things in place better, but not perfectly.Despite my criticisms, I recommend this to friends and family with fat cameras. I will update after taking this on a few hikes.

A solid, stylish sling for your dSLR.

BLUF: Overall, a solid product for the price and well constructed.Best feature: The mounting plate and the metal clip. Both are solid, strong, and well crafted.Worst feature: The thumbscrew for mounting the camera. The thumb screw, 3/4″ in diameter, has too small of a surface area (.44″) to support a dSLR camera at any angle other than on a flat horizon. The first time I took a picture with the camera at a 45 degree I noticed the camera slowly falling to a side. I contacted the manufacturer and they promptly responded stating they would consider a modification to the thumbscrew in the future. Ultimately, if the thumbscrew had a 1″ square plate on the bottom, that would probably work fine.Other comments: The shoulder padding is substantial. While the zipper portion of the shoulder strap is a nice concept, it does not make for quick access. It may be useful for storing a camera cloth or extra cash anything that doesn’t need quick access, but I don’t find it useful for storing memory cards as it would likely bind when the shoulder pad flexes when carrying a camera. With the hook connected to the base plate it substantially reduces the likelihood that the hook or other parts will scratch or damage the camera when placed in a bag and prevents straps from obstructing the top of the camera when shooting.Final thoughts: For the price, approximately $20, it is a good value and certainly worth your consideration. A little disappointed with the thumbscrew since that was a primary selling point, but ultimately if I shoot on a tripod it isn’t that much hassle to remove the sling from the camera.

Very pleased with the design and quality

I have used this type of strap on very heavy DSLRs with battery pack, flash, motor drive, etc.I am now using micro four thirds gear, and the weight overall is much less.I decided to try this particular light weight strap since I already knew how useful this type of strap could be.I think the design is excellent, with a strong mounting plate, that is covered with a material that won’t scratch your camera, but more importantly, will allow a very snug and firm fit. You have to snug it down well.I read one review on Amazon that said the plate came loose and there was danger of dropping the camera. I find that unlikely, if snugged down well. The safety strap is described as being used in two ways. I prefer the method of putting the safety strap on my camera’s strap lug for the utmost safety. If I find that the mounting plate does not loosen I will go with just the one fastening point. I have also gotten in the habit of checking my connections from the strap to my camera, no matter which type of strap I use.I use Peak Design quick release clips for my usual neck strap, and I have fastened the safety strap around one of these so that I can easily remove it. I also use a Peak Design cuff strap around my wrist at times. They make excellent products. The zippered pocket on the padded portion is nice to carry some spare cards on, but is a little too small for proprietary batteries. It will hold some AAs easily, but not most proprietary type since they are too thick. The pocket is pretty flat, and doesn’t expand much.I believe this is an excellent product! Thanks for the great video on You Tube also. Find the video under “rapid fire camera strap”

    Good, not great.

I like this brand and for the price, this shoulder strap is nice. If you use it alone with the camera, it would work great. But I keep my camera in a holster case, only intending to use this strap if I take it out and walk around. With the padded shoulder strap it is a pain to jam that into the camera case. So I cut off the padded portion and that made a big difference. Other issues are that the clip that that comes with the small security strap that clips over the main strap is a ridiculously heavy metal one that has to be unscrewed and is a real pain to attach and remove. I replaced it with a simple aluminum carabiner that is much lighter and easier to use! The metal plate is solid but the 90 degree bend makes it easy to catch on cases and takes up more room than needed. Another issue is that the little knurled nut that holds the metal plate to the camera via the tripod screw must be tightened down very tightly with a pliers as you cannot get it finger tight enough so that the metal plate does not pivot (as the attachment point is off-center and acts like a fulcrum). I wish this nut was wider for more leverage and thinner as it is at least half an inch tall and only 1/2 inch diameter. This means that if you try to attach your tripod adapter plate or attach it to your tripod directly you only have a small area of contact that is not at all stable and also requires extreme tightening. If you only plan on using this strap as is with just the camera it is fine. But if you also keep your camera in a case or use your camera with a tripod frequently it can be problematic and will require some modification.

Very convenient for the photographer who wants to travel light

A few months back, I saw some photographers with a similar item (not sure if it was the same brand or not). I thought that it looked very convenient and easy to wear so I immediately went to Amazon as soon as I got home to try and find it. I looked at reviews for a couple of different brands for this type of neck strap and ultimately settled on this one.I have had this item for about two months now and have to say I really like it. Makes getting the camera in position for that next great shot super easy. It’s very easy to install and is very sturdy. There’s also a safety strap you can install to the camera in case the metal clasp fails (has not happened yet, but it does add an extra layer of security for me).I particularly like using this because of how it sits, the traditional neck strap that came with my DSLR always bugged me, and was not long enough to wear over one shoulder like this strap is.It has been very convenient for the times I decide I just want to take the body + one lens, without additional accessories and can ditch the camera bag. There is also a pocket on the shoulder pad, which I’ve used to store a lens cleaner. The only slight issue I have had with this is on the shoulder pad. I find that it tends to slide around quite a bit, even with the non-slip grip underneath. It’s not enough of an issue to knock the review down a star, since the strap itself stays put just the shoulder bit slides around.

I am happy to share with you this review of the Rapid Fire Quick Release strap thingy.I purchased this Feb’16, since then I have travelled to many places with it, including Mexico on vacation. This is by far the ultimate companion strap to have for your camera. The strap is lightweight and yet it provides sturdy support. I attached the screw-in plate with ease and for added support I looped the strap to the built-in metal loop on the body of the camera (see photos).I always check the strap before every outing to ensure everything is fastened. Never have had issues.I wear the camera with lens pointing towards my body instead of having the lens point outward to minimize accidental bumps. My favorite feature of the strap is that I am able to immediately grab the camera, point and shoot without ever having to readjust the strap. Its a quick slide up and shoot motion (see video). My camera uses a small adapter to transfer photos to a phone or computer. Because I use this feature frequently I decided to loop a piece of yarn through the opening of the adapter, I will later replace the yarn with a thin paracord type material – I stored the adapter in its case, and attached the case to the strap itself. It works perfectly (see photos).I opted to do this instead of putting the adapter inside the built-in pouch the strap offers simply because I did not want it loose in there. The strap is worn across the chest and it evenly distributes the camera weight.

More comfortable than a traditional neck strap

I purchased this product for use with my Nikon D3300 and it works as expected. I like how the base screws securely into the tripod mount on the bottom of the camera (padded on the bottom to not scratch the camera) and how easy it is to attach and detach the hook clasp on the strap once it is mounted. The strap itself seems well made, although lightweight. The hardware clipping to the mount (in addition to the camera mount) is metal, and both seem substantial in their build quality. The neoprene pad has a zippered pocket for stashing SD cards or similar. It does slide around a bit unless there is resistance (the weight of the camera) pulling against it, so re-positioning the pad is necessary at times. The clamp on the nylon strap is plastic, as is the small buckle which is used to connect a small strap to the camera’s traditional strap holders. For the price, I’m pleased. I wish this product came with better directions for attaching to the camera, but I did find the photos on the product page helpful enough to get the job done. I just wished there was an insert to confirm that I had it attached as intended prior to use.The seller throws in a microfiber cleaning cloth with the strap in the packaging and included an insert regarding the company’s 100% Satisfaction guarantee on this item. You are given an email for contacting them should the need arise. There is a mention of another product the company sells on the insert and a request to contact the company if you don’t intend to leave a 5 star review.

    Great shoulder strap

Just got this today, but after a very limited time with it, I can say it’s SO much better than the neck strap that came with the camera. This strap is very comfortable. I can’t even feel any weight from the camera. Granted, I’ve got a smaller micro 4/3 mirrorless, so it’s pretty light to begin with. However, with the kit neck strap, it still felt like a weak midget was trying to bring me down (Miss you, Mitch). At least one reviewer complained that the strap failed and damaged their lens and perhaps camera. However, from my own inspect, the nylon strap seems extremely well made, and the buckle, while plastic, nonetheless feels very heavy duty. I attempted to contort it and could not feel any bend or flexing. The carabiner that attaches to the plate is very stiff to open and overlaps nearly 180 degress, so I don’t see any problems there. The most probably single point of failure would have to be the screw that attaches the plate to the camera. While, it’s a good screw and tightens well, I perhaps imagine someone not tightening it enough or somehow brushing it against their body in some way that caused it to slowly unscrew or something. Even then though, a safety strap is included that attaches to the camera at one of the rings where you would attach a kit neck strap. Should the screw somehow loosen to the point of coming out, then you have a fallback that will prevent the camera from hitting the ground. Granted, by attaching the safety strap you’re negating the “quick release” feature, but if you’re really concerned, it’s better to be safe than sorry.Anyways, these are just my first impressions. If something changes drastically, I’ll update, but honestly, this seems like a really good, quality product.

    Love it

A lot of photographers go to the rapid strap for convenience. It keeps the camera within reach, out of the way, and doesn’t make you look like a tourist. This product does all these things wonderfully. However, my reason was security. I wanted the confidence of knowing someone wasn’t going to grab my camera (which is not expensive by any means, but still more than I want to lose) and yank it away slipping those little neck strap loops free. This bad boy has a metal clip that connects to a metal bracket screwed into the tripod mount. The strap is thick nylon. So, if you want security, believe me, if someone takes your camera while you’re using this thing you’re going with them.Rereading that, I realize that may not be the solution everyone wants. So I’ll also say it’s super easy to slip out of if you choose to.Another feature I like is that the screw for the bracket also has a 1/4″ receiver in it, so you can still use a tripod without having to remove the bracket. Very nice touch. One complaint I’ve noticed is the screw cracking the bottom of cameras. I can see how this would be easy to do. The screw is designed to be easy to grip and therefore can easily be overtightened. I don’t really see this as so much a design flaw as I do an unfortunately necessary trade-off for convenience. Just make it snug and check it every couple of days. Mine hasn’t come loose yet.Product arrived on time. No instructions but I found it completely self-explanatory anyway. Happy with the experience.

Versatile shoulder strap for your SLR/Camera.

The camera strap that accompanies your camera is too thin and uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. If it is around your neck, it isn’t very safe for you if someone tried to grab your camera. With a shoulder strap, at least it isn’t wrapped around your neck. This attaches to your camera through the tripod mounting hole in your camera base by a metal plate. The metal plate has a rubber contact point for decreasing friction and rotation of the plate. The strap connects to the plate by a secure metal clasp. As a backup, it has a tether for added security if the plate mechanism were to fail. However, the carabiner is just a thin piece of aluminum. The tether attaches to your camera through the strap eyelets on the side of your camera. I did order a separate tether made of stainless steel for more piece of mind. The contact with your shoulder is padded, and it has a zippered compartment that stores memory cards. The padding of the strap is comfortable, and it protects the memory cards, also. The base of the connecting plate does accept a mount for a tripod or monopod. But it is not compatible with the Manfrotto base that I own.Overall it is a great shoulder strap. However, it really needs a stronger tether than what is supplied.

    It works great.

I just got back from a 3 week trip to several national parks. We did a lot of hiking. I wanted to be able to carry my camera and my water backpack. It was important to me to be able to grab my camera fast if I want to take a shot, but have it out of the way when I wasn’t using it.I was concerned about the bottom screw of this strap attachment coming loose. That is what several reviews said happened to them. I did notice when I was tying it out at home that it could loosen a little bit, so I used the optional 2nd strap as a backup at the beginning of my trip. I sometimes switched straps depending on the activity we were doing. I found it to be a pain to remove the small strap. My husband used a tool to tighten the bottom screw into the camera, and now it’s too tight to get it out by hand. It no longer moves around or gets loose. The lesson is that if you want the screw to stay put you just need to use a tool to tighten it properly.I liked the one strap option much better. I could easily unhook the strap when using a tripod. I use a tripod fairly often. I like that you don’t have to remove the plate to add the tripod plate. That is the reason I choose this strap over the more expensive rapid strap.I am happy with this purchase.

    Love it

I love the cross-shoulder strap. It keeps the camera securely by my side and reach for the camera whenever I want. The strap is comfortable around the shoulder area. You can adjust it to whatever length you want. I like the tether as extra protection.
