Exactly what I needed!
Modern devices typically don’t include CD-Rom/DVD/BluRay drives anymore… they’ve generally become obsolete. However, there’s always the instance where you need to access such media and you don’t have an available drive to read it. This is the PERFECT solution… a USB drive that’s small and portable and that adapts to the available USB interface (USB-A or USB-C).Installing the drive is fairly simply… remove it from the package, undo the cable that’s conveniently stored on the bottom of the drive, select the type of USB connection (use the attached adapter for USB-C,) then plug it in. A PC product will automatically recognize the device, install drivers, and if so configured it will open a File Explorer window to show what’s on the disc. No separate power source is necessary. For me, the only thing that could have made this better is the inclusion (or availability of) a fitted case so that I can throw this in my backpack for use on the road. However, that’s not a detriment to the product and I was aware of that when I ordered the drive.Bottom line, this is an excellent legacy add-on for modern notebooks and desktops. It’s compact, lightweight, and appears fairly durable. I would definitely buy this again and would recommend it to others who are seeking such an add-on drive.

Needed Addition to my Laptop
I still own a LOT of CDs from years past (pre-digital age). I don’t want to get rid of them because digital has its hiccups as well. Unless you’ve backed music up, you’ve lost it permanently if your computer suddenly dies. CDs are the ultimate back-up system, not to mention the “original” copies as proof of purchase. Anyway, I still play the CDs from time to time, but you need a CD player for that. Some computers/laptops have them, some don’t. My new laptop didn’t come with one, and I didn’t realize or think about that feature until after I purchased it.With an external drive, you have a CD/DVD player/burner if your computer doesn’t have one. This external drive plays my CDs through my laptop or I can send it from the laptop to my Bose speaker. It works well and is fairly quiet, so you can hear the music over any disc spinning. I also use it to back up photos onto CDs/DVDs. It burned them onto the discs without any problems. The external CD drive was easy to use. I just plugged it into the USB port of my laptop and it immediately recognized it as a drive, like it does with any flashdrive. I could then easily start playing music or burn my photos to CDs.

Didn’t do dual layer DVD burn
To test this drives burning capability, I used Microsofts Media Creation tool to generate a windows 11 install disk. After several attempts to burn this to a Dual Layer DVD disk, I finally noticed that this drive doesn’t claim to support dual layer disks. When I attempted to burn this same file to a single layer DVD disk, it was successful the first time. I don’t see anything wrong with the drive as it does what it says. It does work with Windows 11 computers.

Works Great
My PC, as is now common, came without a DVD drive. Sometimes I still need one for things like installing software or playing a CD. This drive is very simple, just plug it in and it works. I have found it to be reliable.

If you have purchased a laptop in the last few years
then you will know that they stopped making dvd/cd drives obsolete. So, I have had to order one. Okay, I have ordered three so far over the years because I can’t find my old ones. This one is nice looking and it works.

Works as expected
I have a laptop and a slimline all-in-one desktop PC, both lacking optical drives. I also have a ton of CDs, DVDs, and software installation CDROMs. I got this Actpe external CD/DVD/ROM to be able to use some of that old media with my new computers. One major advantage of this drive is that it doesn’t require external power. All that needs to be done is to attach the built-in cable to your computer’s USB port (USB-C adapter is included). Both my Win 11 and Win 10 PCs automatically recognized the drive, and I had no issues using it to install software off of a DVD-ROM disk. The drive itself is fairly compact and appears to be well made. The mechanism is a more traditional tray that comes out when you push the button on the front of the device. You load your disk, push it in, and voila. I haven’t tested the burn functionality, but there are not too many use cases requiring me to burn CDs or DVDs, so it will mostly be used for playing back my disks. Overall, I am happy with this optical drive and would recommend it.

Good price for a good quality reader /writer.
Yes it does read and write! This is a very good external dvd drive. It makes a world of difference having it for playing most cds and also for writing them as well. I appreciate having the external drive that just plugs in through the usb cable. Works so well.

The Complete Portable
This little DVD/CD player/writer has two advantages over others I’ve seen. The first is minor but appreciated. The device has a groove to stow the cord making for a much neater transporting package. Please see the photo. The second is one USB cord that serves both as a data and power cable rather than the two that are often required to get one of these portables into operation. I’ve never understood the need for two USB cables and now understand why some players need them even less.In operation, it had no issues with reading or writing operations including reading a commercial DVD that my regular DVD reader/writer could not read. This drive is a little trooper that gets it done.

Works well, but cable is a little short
Overall, the disc drive works well. Only downside is that the cable is a bit short and it is really only usable with a laptop.

Performs Well and It’s USB 3.0!
This DVD burner is as good as the one that is installed in your computer, if you still have an older computer that was made when manufacturers still put them in. It’s an upgrade for me. My old external drive played CD’s and DVD’s but only burnt CD’s. It performs just as you would expect and it’s also USB 3.0! The top is somewhat unique. Maybe the overhang is to give a better grip when you pick it up. The USB cable is built in and includes a USB-C adapter that can be removed. Be aware. The cord is really short, perhaps a foot. I haven’t tried burning a DVD yet, but occasionally I still have a need. The only knock I have is the eject button and I knocked a star off for ease of use. It’s finicky and takes me two or three presses before it ejects.

Becoming Extinct….
Finding a CD/DVD player on a laptop these days are pretty rare, just like there are allot of unused Blu-ray players out there gathering dust. Every now and then I find myself needing to pull files off of a old DVD only to remember that I don’t have a palyer on my current laptop. This external player was a savior when I needed to look for some old pics on a DVD. No issues with it being recognized by my HP running WIN10. Not sure if I’ll be burning any CD/DVDs anymore but will definitely use this to move files to my external HDD as a back-up.

Made setting up a new PC so much easier
With a new PC that has no disk drive, you need something like this. Loading programs was so much easier, faster, and more efficient than having to download the setup files from the internet. The drive worked perfectly and acted as if it was part of the machine. One drawback is the way too short cable. If it was a bit longer, I could keep the drive sitting on the PC, but alas it’s too short for that. The drive worked well, and was plug n play. Good product!

Basic and perfect
Absolutely no frills. This is a plastic shell with an integrated cable and a USB A to C adapter, housing a Toshiba Samsung SN-208 DVD-RW drive. The drive looks new and seems to read flawlessly. Reasonably quiet, not silent but not loud either. Reads CDs and DVDs fine, and I would assume writes them fine as well.Always good to have one of these on hand. You never know when you’ll need it. It’s surprising how many manufacturers still ship documentation and software on CDs and DVDs. Recommend.

Just What I Needed
I still have some files backed up on CD and DVD ROMs, but my new PCs and laptops no longer have DVD drives. This is a completely self-contained, compact unit. It’s powered by USB, so does not need any additional bulky power bricks or cords. Really nice feature is that the USB cord had a cutout in the case for easy storage. I plugged it into my Windows 10 PC, and it instantly connected and was able to read files off my CDs. Did not have a need to burn data on to CD/DVD so cannot comment on that but reading files from this was very fast.

Got this external DVD burner to write my projects and save some of old videos to discs. It is easy to setup and install the software. Writer has been doing well was able to write about 8 disks so far without anyone getting failed. Great burner to write disks.

Works good, no issues
I am using this on a PC white build that I’m building to sell to a friend and so far it has worked great. I plugged it in and immediately Windows 10 recognized and asked me what to do with the disc. After using it to install MS Office 2002 I concluded that this is a decent drive. I have not yet used it to burn any discs. RECOMMENDED

USB3.0 is a lie
Its really usb 2.0 with a usb 3.0 connector on the end. Inside of the device it terminates to a normal micro usb female connection.even with all of that i kept it cuz at the price, it was able to burn some iso’s for me and thats cool. if it fails i have more drives i can slide in the shell. even if it is usb 2.0 it burned a winxp iso fairly quick

Just what I needed to load an old school CD on my Laptop
I needed to load Microsoft Office on my new Laptop. I have the original Microsoft CD but like most newer Laptops, mine does not have a CD drive. I ordered this USB 3.0 External DVD Burner Writer Recorder CD/DVD ROM Player at a great price from Amazon and all I had to do was plug it into a USB port on my laptop and was immediately able to install MS Office with no issues. Excellent optical drive.

Saved my music library!
I purchased this because I found all my old CDs from years ago and I wanted to keep the music since some of the bands were local or couldn’t be found on music streaming service. I purchased the CD drive and it worked perfectly. I moved almost 400 CDs to mp3 So I can play the music on my computer or other devices! It’s easy to use and worked well with my windows laptop … definitely recommend

Defective out of the box
I purchased a new laptop that did not come with an optical drive so I purchased this one. My laptop recognized this drive when I plugged it in, however, it was very noisy (sounded like an HHD searching), continually searched, and only loaded one of three DVDs I placed in the tray. I was unable to write to a blank disc. My experience does not mean that this is a faulty brand, just a faulty drive and that happens. I sent it back to Amazon and purchased another brand from a different seller. It arrived this morning and works properly.

Defective only used it 5 times then stopped working
I was happy to receive this plug and play External DVD Drive Optical Drive for my laptop. It worked immediately with no issues. I thought this device was going to be an excellent optical drive. Today I plug it into my computer and the LED started flashing on the DVD Drive Optical Drive for my laptop stop working. So I thought it was my computer and plug it into another computer that had worked and it did the same thing. So the DVD Drive Optical Drive for both laptops is not no working and the DVD LED just flashes. I only used this DVD Drive Optical Drive 5 times before it stopped working what a piece of junk.

Can’t Recommend
Based on my experience, this disc drive is garbage. It played one CD and then when I tried to play another one the tray wouldn’t close. I tried over and over again but no luck. And so I boxed it up and returned it. I have since purchased a name brand (Dell) drive from another company and even though I paid $15 more for the Dell, it is well worth it. Not a single problem of any kind.

A little tricky to use on a Mac
Most modern computers do not come with a CD-Rom drive built in, but this drive is essential for burning picture CDs, accessing content and the like. The drive works but there is little documentation and it takes a few tries to get my mac to recognize it. Other than that its fine.

Works OK, short cable, compact unit
Reviewing USB 3.0 External CD/DVD Burner Writer:The 10 inch USB cable is nicely stored in a grove on the bottom of unit. The included USBA to USBC adaptor stores connected to cable under the unit also. The 10 inch cable feels incredibly short. So when I first started testing I used about a 10 foot extension USB 3.0 cable. I noticed that a few of the CDs I was testing this with had some trouble reading. Later when I removed the extension, I did not have any trouble reading those CDs. I tried a hub with 6 foot cable and had same issue. I did not try other extensions, but would assume this could be an issue if the 10 inch cable does not work for you.I played a DVD movie no problem. I tested reading a DVD with pictures. I formatted RW DVD and then copied a bunch of pictures to it, then erased them. Formatting took a bit as expected, but read write of pictures was fast.If you want a great laugh, look at the section of instructions called “Small problem solving tips”.Here are samples:”Sometimes the computer’s built-in player is missing the decoding pudding.””Just drive it.”I like the diamond textured top. I wanted a portable CD/DVD drive as most computers do not come with them anymore. Just hard to use with desktop computer with 10 inch cable. I just let it hang from computer vertical from the cable and it seems to work.

Quiet, portable DVD drive; great for laptops
This DVD drive can read/write DVDs and CDs, but I’m only using this for reading discs, for the rare occasion something is only available on CD/DVD. I don’t think write capability is that important these days, given the lack of drives in a lot of computers. This USB DVD drive is USB 3.0 and uses a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA T50L — a pretty standard DVD drive. This does support USB 3, though I don’t think the speeds from a DVD drive require it. This comes with a permanently attached, short (about 9 in) cable with an included USB A to USB C adapter. This is one less cable you have to keep track of, but it does mean if the cable goes bad you have to trash the entire drive. There’s a place underneath the drive to store the cable when not in use. I use this with a laptop, so the cable length is fine for me, but if you’re using this with a desktop it will probably be too short. The case is all plastic, and the top is textured rather than smooth; I guess it helps with grip when you’re holding it.Windows 10 automatically detected the drive, no software installation was required. This has a single small eject button on front that you can barely feel, along with a small indicator light that was unobtrusive in use.I tested this with a few discs, both CD and DVD. The drive is pretty quiet, and it read both discs OK. The speed seemed fine, but these are not especially fast media anyway. This works perfectly for my use case. The price of this drive is sort of average for the category, but there are similar drives that are less expensive currently on Amazon, making this a tougher sell. I personally think these inexpensive USB DVD drives are all very similar, so I would just buy whatever is least expensive (though if you need USB C, make sure it comes with an adapter).

Works great but…..
This external DVD burning ROM works great. I wish I could knock off a half star for the very short USB cable. But I decided it’s still a five star product even with the short cable. I get it, a longer cable would be harder to wind up underneath the rom. I have a USB extension cable I can use that I keep in the drawer. But for my first use I just propped it up on top of my computer case. It is plug and play and windows picked it right up as soon as I plugged it in. I burned a DVD using Nero and it burned perfectly. I have 16 x DVD burners currently but I got this because I’m getting a gaming case with no optical bays. Let’s drive only Burns at 8 speed so it takes twice as long to burn a DVD. But it’s a trade-off for the convenience. With all of the gaming computers now not having optical bays these external ROMs are becoming the new normal. Although the cable is short it does wind up underneath and store nicely. Comes with a USB to type c adapter. This you would find on newer laptops. This device is also perfect for laptop set do not come with an optical drive. I highly recommend this optical drive.

Surprisingly capable, compact CD/DVD drive
This CD/DVD drive is about as compact as it’s possible to make such a device: only a little bigger than a stack of 2 CD jewel boxes. It has only one control, a tray eject button. One nice feature is the cable storage, which fits perfectly and is easy to remove and to put back into place. It includes an adapter from USB-A to USB-C. Older portable CD/DVD burners I have used required TWO USB plugs, presumably to supply additional power needed by the drive. This one needs just one computer port.I tried the drive on a Mac laptop using USB-C and it worked fine. Likewise on an iMac using USB-A. Both machines recognized the drive automatically. Very seamless. It has USB 3 speed capability, but such speed is not needed for these drives. The cable, which is attached, is a bit short at about 10 inches. It worked fine sitting next to my laptop, but I needed a longer cable for my iMac setup, so I used a common USB-A extension cable to fix the problem.Burning CDs or DVDs worked flawlessly (mine recorded a CD at 4X, but that may be a function of the software).Like all tiny tray-type mechanisms, the tray doesn’t seem particularly robust, but with care it should last. The device shows up as “Flagis” on the desktop. Not sure where that name comes from as it’s branded as “Actpe.”
