    Beware of the details

My ix500 is considered obsolete and unsupported. I upgraded to the 1400. I took the leap of faith about scansnap home. I trusted them to provide me something as good or better than the organizer I’ve been using for 10+ years. Wrong! Scansnap home is literally useless. OK, just go back to the organizer? Not so fast, impossible without pleading to tech support. So organizer is no longer supported as of 11/2024, I’ll take my chances. The alternative is a no-go.

The scanner itself is great but I have some issues

It is super fast and accurate but it can jam when doing large stacks of papers and will crumble them pretty bad. This will happen when they all appear straight but its not often enough to be annoying. My main issue is with the software refusing to open up. It will open up as a background task but its main menu will never open for some reason unless its an off chance of it just magically working. I’m sure this issue will be fixed and wont bother most people.I saw that this company provides their software for free and they have replacements parts and don’t lock down the product and everything attached to unlike some other companies. Glad to see there are still companies that don’t want you to throw away the whole product when one small part breaks *ahem apple and every other tech giant*I HIGHLY recommend this and I even MORE HIGHLY recommend switched over your documents to digital and start scanning them since it is an objectively better way of storing and managing your documents (as long as you take the proper precautions of course such as having backups and not giving your data to those you don’t trust *ahem google*By no means a perfect product but no product is. In my book it’s great and the services the companies provide make it just that much better.

Other than not working wireless, this scanner is REALLY GOOD! No issues.

Two different people referred this scanner to me. It works as advertised. I do wish I had understand it doesn’t work wireless (not mentioned in everything I read – I had to call tech support to get confirmation); I would have gotten a different model of ScanSnap. ScanSnap itself is great!

    Easy to Operate

Love this Scanner. Had the S1500 for years. This iX1400 is almost the same. Best to have just ONE button (instead of a touch screen on the scanner) then Menu opens on your PC Screen to Select where you want the Document to be saved. Great Buy. And GoodPrice. I Highly Recommend.

    Love the iX1400 !

The ScanSnap iX1400 is the best and easiest to use scanner, ever! Archiving important (and unimportant) documents is a breeze. Almost no mechanical jams, and putting files into computer folders/directories of one’s choice is straightforward.

    FAST Scanner! Money Well Spent

I bought an oder version of this many years ago. It worked beautifully (still does). I just bought this one for another location. It scans very quickly, and the scans are nice and crisp, depending on the scan quality setting. The software is a bit cumbersome and more difficult to use, but still great quality machine if it lasts as long as the previous one. Happy with the purchase so far. Highly recommended.

    Just bought a 2nd one

This scanner is FAST! Its so fast it actually startled me the 1st couple of times that I used it. I love that it does receipts, much easier than using my HP all in one that I can only scan receipts one at a time on because the feeder won’t go small enough to feed them through.

    Love this scanner!

After years of using the scanning feature on my printer — and always wondering if the feed would rip my document, it’s a joy to have a scanner that feeds smoothly, produces clear scans and is easy to master. This scanner has a folding lid that covers the scanner when it’s not in use, keeping it dust-free. It also has an extendable paper guide so that the scanned document clears smoothly without getting tangled up on the crowded top of my desk. The feed slides back into the body of the scanner to create a compact presence on my desk.Once a scan is done, I can move it from the ScanSnap page into whatever file I want. I’m in the middle of helping an elderly aunt with settling an estate and it so convenient to so easily scan files and save them for future reference.

    Fabulous and VERY fast!

Wow, this is a definite three steps up from the prior scanners I’ve had which were functions of an “all-in-one” printer/scanner: slow, clunky, page jams, babysitting the scanner. All those problems are in the past now that I have my new ScanSnap.Scanner installation was easy: simply download the appropriate installation package from the Fujitsu (now Ricoh) web site, install the software and plug in the USB 3 cable to the scanner when instructed. The entire installation process including downloading the software took under 10 minutes.Open the lid, the scanner connects and powers on in about 2 seconds and is ready for use.Put your documents in face down and facing the rear, click the one big bright blue button (!) and zip zip zap your pages are ingested at a rate of about 40 pages per minute, EVEN double sided! Yep, scan a double-sided 40-page (80 impressions) document in 60 seconds! Natively saves to PDF so multi-page single files are no problem.Software is a little clunky—it’s kind of one of those “does it all” interfaces with a thousand options, but seems to miss some of the more obvious advanced settings that would be conducive to advanced users, like the ability to simply pop up a standard Windows system “Save As” box on completion (bypassing the ScanSnap Home interface), rather than the clunky software where I go in to type the new file name and then have to save it in there. It just adds a few unnecessary clicks, but isn’t all that aggravating.[EDIT: I’ve figured out how to scan to a folder with no pop-up interaction, which is great. Simply go into ScanSnap Home, and use the “Show with File Explorer” send-to option.]This is NOT a TWAIN or WIA scanner so you can’t just go into your existing generic scanner app and “pull” in a page–you must use ScanSnap BUT it provides all the basics (almost as defaults) for any document scanning any small office or business user would need and you can always edit the resultant PDF in Adobe or Word or whatever. It’s been an hour since I connected it. I’ve just scanned 15 years of personal and business tax returns, over 500 pages in total. I’ve literally digitized and removed a 3 inch thick stack of paper from a file drawer IN AN HOUR. And the ix1400 is just one of the more basic units in the ScanSnap line. They have units capable of scanning much faster and in larger volumes, but for the price this basic unit is likely all anyone but the most demanding users would need. The only misfeeds are where the page was iffy to begin with–a curled lip, a tear, or the occasional staple I missed (gasp!). When those misfeeds happen, the software pauses, tells you what happened, allows you to remove the errant page and then KEEP SCANNING as if nothing happened! Amazing. I used to have to trash and restart the entire scan. All this in compact desk unit that folds up to fit in what’s barely 6×12″ of desk space.Staring at my 3-foot tall stack of papers, contracts, receipts, and photos to scan, I have realized that I should have bought a ScanSnap YEARS ago. Where have you been all my life, my precious scanner?!?!The only reason I gave “accuracy” 4* instead of 5* was that on occasion, I’ve noticed the resulting scan is slightly skewed–the originals are fine, but a tax return scanned about 3-degrees off. Internal software de-skewing functionality would have resolved the issue but that’s not a thing on the ix1400. So you may get an occasional skew, which is not significant for just scanning and storing old documents.

It’s for when you have the NEED for SPEED

The speed at which this scanner can scan double sided documents is STUNNING. If it’s the first time you’ve used a high speed duplex scanner you may be shocked. It rockets the sheets through there with such speed you think: Wait, really!? Is this possible? Is this real!?I bought this for one simple reason: The one I had no longer had software that would work with Windows 11 and wasn’t really supported on Windows 10 either. Looking at them in person, it’s hard to understand why I reached a point of obsolescence on a scanner that still worked better than most in the market, but that is another story. This unit was very easy to set up and the software installed easily. Due to a death in the family, my family ended up having large volumes of paperwork from a variety of sources and being able to bring those up at a fingertip, while in the office of some professional, is really helpful and critical to keeping things moving quickly. I have another Scansnap unit — the S1100, which is older, but still works quite well. It’s great for travel, rather slow, and VERY slow compared to this model. In retrospect I should have purchased this unit sooner as I wasted a LOT of time flipping and scanning pages slowly. This scanner has been a real life safer in keeping paper documentation digitally, and doing so quickly, so doing so on a regular basis is not such a pain. Fully satisfied, a little jealous of the model above it with a screen and network connectivity, but I got this one on open box bargain and am completely satisfied with the performance and value. It’s rare that a product shocks you, but this one just may. In a good way.

Great scanner…high quality and easy to use.

First of all, I have an older version of this same scanner that no longer is supported by my operating system. I am on Mac. Purchased this one specifically because it did not have a cloud feature. Who wants their personal records on the cloud? Not me. Download software, install, click a few buttons and ready to go after you connect it to your computer. I do alot of scanning (alot) some items are double sided, color, some are tiny and fragile, etc… I always scan to pdf file, but you can scan to Word, etc… What I noticed about this updated unit (maybe it is user error) but before it use to ask me to type a filename now it just assigns a file name on its own. Not a biggy as I just rename it. But, what I did notice is it is super fast. I thought my old one was fast well this one is super duper fast. High quality. Does multiple pages…can scan a year’s worth of electric bills in one go and it takes about a minute to scan in color, high quality and saved in a pdf file. Bills are usually 4 pages per month. It really is a great scanner. My old one I had for 10+ years and am happy to see they made a version without cloud.

Great Upgrade from the S1500 Workhorse

My ScanSnap S1500 was many years old and used daily in my paperless office. It was an excellent sturdy workhorse that finally got annoyingly noisy on the scans and acted as though it was ready to retire. This new ScanSnap iX1400 is a leap forward in technology – it is much faster and has very elaborate software. I am not really used to, nor am I using all the capability of the new software (old habits are hard to break) but I am delighted with the speed, feed reliability, and the snap-in receipt and business card adapter that works surprisingly well on the iX1400.

    This is my third one!

This is my third ScanSnap scanner. The first one lasted 10 years until I decided I just wanted a newer model. The second one I accidentally allowed to fall off my desk. They are so easy to use that right out of the box you are being productive. Nothing complicated to set it up–just plug it in and follow the prompts. Simple but powerful, I recommend the iX1400 ScanSnap scanner highly.

    Great Machine, Complicated Instructions

After a great deal of research I selected this scanner and I’m very happy with the machine itself. It scans very quickly, has the options I wanted (single or double sided, various sizes from receipts to legal, scans photos, etc.). It is simple to set up and really fun to use! However, the technical instructions are a bit complicated for me. They’re found in a dedicated website online and are very thorough but lack some basic and general term definitions. So I attempted to locate videos for different tasks I needed such as file and folder organization. There are a LOT of videos on these subjects and it gets to feel overwhelming pretty quick. I just need simple. Basic. I’m not archiving records for posterity, mostly for the IRS! ;^)Anyway I highly recommend the machine and I’m sure that you will not have much difficulty with the software as I have experienced.

We use this brand at work. Small, easy FAST! Does drivers license, receipts ( if the paper is newer)… I have a plastic case for my cards and I zip it right through – no hangups. A stack of papers no problem. Keeps them in order too.

Replaced my old model with a new one since drivers were missing some features

I had to purchase a new model since my old one no longer supported my computer upgrades. The old one was still working and never broke. But even with drivers downloaded on new computer, some features would be missing. My old Scansnap is high quality built and I feel sad I’m giving up the old one just because it is not compatible with new computer. I noticed the new Scansnap ix1400 has some fancy new features my old one did not. It has a slightly curved up tray at the bottom to catch the papers once it scans. I do not use the wireless feature, so I am unable to comment on it. I rather use the USB connection. It rarely jams, but if it does, it’s very easy to get the paper out. Overall I still love Fujitsu ScanSnaps. Very easy to use and it scans fast. I can put 20 pages at a time and it scans effortlessly. I am unable to comment on durability since its brand new, but I expect it to last me years as the older version did.Scansnaps are awesome!

I”m Happy with this Scanner !!!

I’ve had the previous models, I was happy to see that this one is basically the same, just faster !! Installation could be better, I had to search and download the driver, there were no instructions for this anywhere, I had to go online and search on my own til I found a video with instructions on where to find the driver. I was thinking this is a fujitsu scanner, but I guess now they are RICOH and you have to go to their site to download the driver. I’m a bit of a tech guy, but I can just imagine how stressful this would be for someone who is not a Tech person. FYI when I first connected the scanner it looked like it was installing everything automatically, but after it finished it indicated scanner ready to use, but it wasn’t and ScanSnap manager didn’t recognize the scanner, that’s when I had to go online to search for the driver and install everything manually., including re-installing ScanSnap manager(had already been on my PC because I had a Fujitsu I500 scanner). Hope this helps others.

I had a previous version that lasted about 9 years and was very bummed when it started to go out, I use it daily at work, so figured I’d get an update one. It’s working just as well and hope to get many years of use out of it. Super easy to set-up.

    Works perfectly

We’ve been using an older model of the ScanSnap at work for years but I decided to get my own since I’m the treasurer for a property association. I have to scan checks received (not for deposit, just for archiving) along with half page slips that the owners send with their checks for info updates. I also scan the deposit verification from the bank to include in the archived files. All different sizes of paper, works great.

Decent scanner; Software could be slightly better

Overall I am satisfied with the product. It scans pretty well and has enough software support to make the job mostly painless. I would like to see some more options to help with compressing large scans. I have noticed some low-level bleed through on double-sided sheets. Not enough to be distracting but noticeable.

    Extremely impressive for photos

My mom has boxes of old pictures she wants to scan. For the last couple of months we’ve been using a flatbed scanner to grab one at a time. That worked. But then I spoke with my dad, and he described a previous generation of this scanner that he found very handy.I was very surprised to find how consistently it can go through a stack of pictures. The only two times it jammed were tiny sub-wallet-sized photos. Everything else Just Works. We’re a few weeks in with this new scanner, so a few hundred pictures scanned, so far.The one issue I have with the software is that it’s a little inconsistent on guessing which way is up. I may have to turn that off and just arrange the pictures prior to scanning them. As it is, even if I arrange them ahead of time, about one out of every ten or fifteen will be rotated the wrong direction. I only ever grab 15 or fewer at a time, so I’ve gotten in the habit of scrolling through the pictures and rotating them prior to clicking the save button. It’s not a huge issue. Just a bit annoying, if I forget to do that manual step. The software is also another example of trying to help too much. I’m a geek, so I would like to just set the settings and then save those off. This software wants to divide things up by activity. Scan to File, Scan to Application, Scan Receipts, etc. It’s mostly the same thing, but it’s kind of backwards from how I think. It’s working well enough. But, I usually find this sort of thing kind of annoying.Unfortunately, it takes almost exactly as much time for me to walk her through renaming each picture as it did to scan them individually on the flatbed. She just can’t keep track of where she is in the process, anymore.I recommend this scanner. It’s a little more expensive than I’d like, but it has been rock solid in performance, so far. For the thousands of pictures we have ahead of us, this scanner is going to be one of the most streamlined portions of getting them to the computer.

    So Far So Good

My wife and I have a physical therapy practice and have to do a lot of scanning. Does an excellent job with great clarity and speed. As with any top feed scanner, occasionally some pages get stuck together, but not very often. Easy fix is to make sure the bottoms of the pages aren’t to perfectly aligned.

Excellent scan speed – Bad software

I had used the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 scanner for years. It got damaged and I had to replace it. I would have bought another iX500 as I loved it, but it is no longer available. After some research I purchased the iX1400. It’s a good scanner, but does have a couple of problems.I had a lot of problems downloading the software from the Fujitsu website. I don’t think there’s a way to use the scanner without downloading the software. Fujistu offers two different software options to use with the scanner, but they don’t explain what the differences are between the two. In addition, the website has you going around in circles to find out more information about the downloads and where to find the downloads. To be honest, I can’t tell you what software I actually got installed. I would try to download one version and it would fail, then I’d try another and it would fail. Then I’d try the first one again, and it would fail. And so on. I was about to box up the scanner and return it, but decided to try to download the software one more time, and after almost an hour I got one of the executables downloaded and the software installed.Since purchasing this new scanner, I’ve scanned probably around 1000+ pages. The scanning speed is excellent and is comparable to my previous Fujitsu scanner. However, there are some problems with the software. There is a configuration manager where in theory you can set defaults for scans. When I change many of the default settings, they don’t get applied/saved. For example, when I change the default folder to save scans, the scanner ignores my changes. However, I can specify the folder after each scan. In addition, by default the scanner is supposed to include blank pages that you run through the scanner in the scanned output. But it ignores blank pages and omits them from output. And there are instances where I do want the blank pages included in my output. In the Amazon description, it says that there is automatic rotation and de-skewing of pages. The scanner rotates pages whether you want them rotated or not. By default the configuration panel is set to rotate pages. There is a way to disable the page rotation setting in the configuration panel, however disabling the setting has no effect. There was a documentation set I was scanning where I didn’t want pages rotated. I disabled page rotation in the configuration panel, but the pages were rotated anyway in the scanner output. And I find that it does not de-skew a lot of pages.Other observations… this model comes with a really really short USB cable. Maybe 2ft? So depending on your set-up you may have to purchase a longer cable. Also, unlike my previous scanner, this one does not include a carrier sheet for scanning odd-sized and/or delicate documents and photos. So that’s something that you’ll have to purchase separately if needed.A scanner like this is definitely the way to go if you have a lot of documents to scan as opposed to a flatbed scanner. I have to say, though, I’m not sure if I’d buy this scanner again, mostly due to my lousy experience downloading and using the software.

    The Best!

I love my snap scan iX1400! We had the all in one printer for 4 years and the scanner stopped working so I was looking to buy a new all in one or just a scanner. I decided to get just a scanner and bought the canon but it was too complicated and doesn’t work (probably user error) I didn’t like it and returned it and bought the ix1400 instead. So glad I did. It’s the best scanner, very user friendly, plug in, download software and done ready to go! Scans really fast as well. Worth the money and I hope it will last a long time.

Awesome scanner; easy to install and use.

I’ve had a version of this scanner at work for years and finally broke down and bought one for home. I’d rate this more than 5 stars if I could. This one has a setup for preferences for one person. The next model up can have multiple people customize settings for their own use. I didn’t realize I’d bought this version, but since I didn’t need multiple users, this was the perfect scanner for personal use. It scans both sides of the paper at once and orients/rotates the page if needed. I can easily change the desired result from pdf to image scan with a click of the mouse from the system tray before I scan. The scanned image has excellent quality without using up a ton of space for storage. Can easily scan business cards, receipts, or pages of any length.

    NOT for PHOTOS

I ONLY tested photos. It maybe fine for documents. For ~$500 it is NOT worth it. It uses LEDs for the light source and they create streaks on your photos. Some photos it’s noticeable if you know what you’re looking for, others it is OBVIOUS and ugly. IT even states in the directions sent with the scanner that these streaks may occur and it is not a defect. On the website, they claim the software removes streaks – BS! They know, they don’t care. 100+ individual LEDs as a light source is a poor (but likely cheap) design choice. The Canon RS40 has the same issue!!! I want a high quality photo scanner that can do many photos fast – this is NOT that device. My flatbed makes great photo scans but the software is clunky and I can only do one at a time – 1000+ photos will take some time. Speaking of software, the software here only opens after a scan and you have to save it each time. You get to choose where to save it! Each time. It is fast and probably OK if you don’t care about quality but for $500 I expect more! Flatbeds are about $100 to $200. Why not use a fluorescent light source here? Or diffuse the LEDs? Oh, and on the canon, an LED went out leaving a solid white line through your photo. This one’s directions admit the same can happen here. I don’t see how 85% of reviewers liked this device.

    Analyzes forever

This has to analyze the file you’re scanning into and it can take forever depending how big it is. If you want to save into a different file, it will not give you the option to choose your file first before analyzing. I do love the feature to delete unwanted pages, it was fast and simple to use.

    Comparatively Expensive, but Worth It

If you want a scanner that is built for scanning and are tired of the issues with multi-function printer scanning or crappy scanner software, get this. I bought one for my home after having purchased several of the better model for the office. Never a complaint from staff once operational. It’s a pleasure to use. There are a few minor things that could be simplified or multiple defaults that could improve it, but all in all, this is the scanner of choice if you are serious and don’t want to keep replacing cheap units. It’s takes up just a little desk space and closes looking neat and clean when not in use. WiFi scanning worked flawlessly so a hard wire to the computer is not necessary.

Super easy to use and FAST

I have used several versions of the ScanSnap and love love love them. Super easy and fast. With that said, the software can be touchy sometimes and if you have a situation where there is an update and it won’t recognize the scanner, it can be a frustrating process to resolve. But overall, they are awesome and reliable and don’t take up a lot of space. I like that they can handle receipts and can straighten the image somewhat as they scan them.

Fast scanning and even if you have it in a little crooked it straightens out out for you. Thats what she said.

    Great scanner

I had the i3000 prior to this one. I liked that scanner. But this time I wanted a bigger, faster, ability to scan more pages at a time scanner. I got it all in this scanner. It’s super-fast. I love it.

    Amazing

LOVE this scanner. Have one similar at work so had to have one for personal. My dad asked to use mine to scan his docs, and was so impressed he asked me to order one for him too!

    Love going Paperless

I had this model scanner at work and loved it so I got one for home. Scanning all my records so I can be paperless. It might seem a little pricey but it is simple and user friendly. I had another cheaper name brand for a minute but returned it right away.

Good device lack of SW/tech support after Mac OS upgrade bricked my old ScanSnap was unconscionable.

Only issues is that my old Fujitsu ScanSnap was bricked by lack of software upgrade for new Mac OS so had to buy a new one. Fujitsu offered no SW patches or tech support, and there was no notice until after the OS upgrade bricked my previous model and I found there was no way back. I like the device but hate the lack of tech support and corporate model.

    Works great!!!

Scansnap makes a great little scanner. I only have an occasional need for a scanner so this fits the bill. Their new software takes a bit to learn (I was familiar with the older version), but once I figure it out, everything works fine. (Note: I gave tech support 3*s because I didn’t use them. I have no idea if they’re any good so I gave them a neutral rating.)

Works quickly, accurately, and has consistent results

ScanSnap is a tool to make a paperless workflow work. Now, the tools doesn’t get in the way of the process. As a programmer, I hate when you become a slave to the process instead of getting results and to the goal. This scanner does that in spades.I tossed my old scanner.

    Good scanner

This is a good scanner. I do wish that you could change between changing single page scanning to double page, scanning. Unfortunately, this is not an option with Fijitsu. You have to pick one or the other which I was able to do with Canon.

    Great Scanner

It did take a little bit to get used to the software setup, but the scanner itself works very well. Great for scanning lots of receipts and other sized papers. Only scanning issue is with long receipts (maybe 14”+), it doesn’t scan them all the way through. Despite a couple minor things, I’m happy with this scanner.

Fast scaning, ease of set up & use.

Easy to set up. We replace a ScanSnap Ix500 with IX1400. For this particular scanner the WiFi option was not needed. This saved money for our office. This is used on a daily basis to scan all office douments by our file clerk. It is very fast with no paper jams or issues getting it to work.

    Fast and great quality

I bought this thinking it was going to disappoint me. It did not! We do a lot of scanning and this thing is a beast for its size. Easily runs through 50 pages at a time and we can scan 300 or more in minutes. The quality is amazing as well.

    Dream Scanner

Replaced an older ScanSnap model that finally died after 15 years. This model is MUCH faster. Like the simplicity of this model with only one button…didn’t like the LED screen to make setting changes on the other model.

    SECOND FUJITSU SENT BACK

This was the second Fujitsu I had to return. Claims to be able to scan longer pages (8.5 by 14), CANNOT! I called customer service. After getting disconnected 2x- I was told the feeders may be dirty and I should send the machine in for service. This is the FIRST TIME I am trying to use the machine. The 3rd person I spoke to had me hold the scan button and wait for it to change colors. It never did. I asked for a supervisor- NEVER got 1. Sent to a “level 2” which resulted in 45 minutes of trying different things all to be told- there is a problem with a machine. As a solution I was told I could buy a more expensive model!

    Excellent Scanner

Upgraded from my small ScanSnap. This is an excellent scanner. Works very well on receipts ( even different lengths and sizes), did an excellent job on a stack of various sized photos. So far I have no complaints. It’s fast and very quiet, easy to operate. The software is the only thing I’m not crazy about, but overall an excellent purchase.

    Great Scanner!

Very fast and easy to set up and use. Able to get rid of piles of paper by scanning them and throwing out the paper. Use for a tax office also. Scans very quickly and have had no issues so far.

My second time buying this brand

I was sad to leave my scanner when I quit my last job. At my new position, I’ve bought a new scanner & I’m dancing in my seat! Once you get to know the software it’s a dream.

    Easy to use workhorse

Shifting to paperless office and needed to scan about 20k documents. Completed quickly and efficiently with only misfeeds caused by me failing to remove all staples. Fast scanning compared to previous all-in-one scanner.

    As good as always

Have been using IX500 (I even got a secondhand S1500) for a while now. I must say its really convenient especially for small volumn scanning. Granted I have got some really really fast scanner which can scan a 100 page per minute but its like but if you just want to scan a 2 page document, why bother.
