Perfect Pairing for my 2020 Macbook Pro w/ M1 chip

So I recently got a new job, and this new company uses Mac’s. After they gave me my 2020 Macbook Pro with the M1 chip, the research begun on the best screen to use with it. Previously I was running dual monitors for my old jobs windows based laptop (had to give the screens back after my last day). I had heard that the M1 chip didn’t exactly like working with a dual monitor set up, so I decided to go the route of just 1 34″ ultrawide. My only requirements were: 1) Had USB-C port so that I could charge and display my Macbook with a single cable. 2) Under $700.After a week of research, I decided on this LG 34″ ultrawide and I have been loving it. Works great with my Macbook using the supplied USB-C cable and functions as it should (works as a display and charges it at the same time).I have seen other reviews where they said it didn’t work. Sometimes, you might need to unplug/replug in the USB-C to the Macbook to sort of “wake up” the screen. Doesn’t happen every-time, but its happened a handful of times in the week I’ve owned it.If you are looking for a great 34″ Ultrawide that works with your Macbook via USB-C, this is a great choice. Even comes with the USB-C cable, so its very much a “plug and play” experience.Keep in mind, I use this screen 100% for work. I don’t game on it, so I cant comment on how it performs for gaming.

Pretty good, but there are options with better displays if you pay a bit more

I purchased this monitor alongside a Acer XR342CK Pbmiiqphuzx, because they are both USB-C enabled 34″ 1440p ultrawides in order to compare the two, with the main difference being the Acer one has 100 hz refresh rate, so it’s better suited for gaming. All-in-all the LG one is pretty good for the money and picture quality wise I wasn’t wowed, but pretty much satisfied with what I was getting for ~$500. The colors were a bit on the warm side, and none of the color options were quite perfect. But, you can probably get used to either the gaming or cinema (can’t remember exact names) color modes pretty quickly. On its own, if I hadn’t ordered two monitors at once, I probably would have stuck with the 34WN80C and saved myself the hassle of more trial and error. However, after comparing this monitor with the Acer Pbmiiqphuzx, I decided to keep the Acer one instead. It has a slightly “clearer” display, even though both are 1440p IPS panels. You probably won’t notice unless you are nitpicking both side-by-side, but I couldn’t help but notice that my windows taskbar icons were just a bit more grainy on the LG than the Acer or my current Asus 27″ 1440p monitor. I also do some light gaming, so the “upgrade” to the Acer was also worth the optionality of being able to play FPS games at a much higher refresh rate. The jump from 60 hz -> 100 hz is very very noticeable, and even for that alone I would recommend the Acer one over the LG. If you’re sure you’ll only be productivity focused and really want to save some extra bucks, then the LG 34WN80C is a good bet as well.

Great monitor overall, but not top line speed.

I was shopping around a while for a 35in 4k ultrawide curved monitor and decided to go with this lg version and so far I am very satisfied with my purchase. I’m mostly a designer and part time gamer, so I had to choose between good picture or fast refresh and since I mostly spend my time designing I opted for quality. Ideally it would have both, but the price point for both is quite a bit more expensive. That said, if your not a big gamer, or more specifically a competitive gamer, then the 60mhz refresh rate of this monitor is most likely not a problem. Also just to note, light bleed around edges does not appear nearly as significant as some of the other comments have pointed out, so that may have been fixed, or I got lucky.Pros:- Excellent picture quality, good blacks, does not look washed out at all.- Good sharpness, haven’t noticed any blurry fonts or ghosting.- no dead pixels, only had it for a few days but so far no pixel issues- Name brand manufacturer, good stand, overall weight not very heavy, can easily be wall mounted.- Anti glare coatingCons- max 60mhz refresh, though for most people that is all you need.- Anti glare coating not explained on marketing or packaging, if your like me and didn’t know this was a thing you might think there is film over the screen and try to peel it off (like me).

Good monitor with a few deficiencies

My previous setup included two uneven sized monitors; this, my first wide screen monitor is great upgrade. While the picture quality is good and the resolution is adequate, there are some deficiencies that could that prevent me from giving it a perfect score.1. With all lights turned off, there’s some light bleed from the edges; not enough to be a deal breaker though.2. The software on the monitor needs to be better. This model does not include speakers and yet the interface allows you to control the volume. In addition, the choice of the joystick nub as the control interface to even power off the device is just plain painful. The screen split software that can be downloaded from LG’s website allows you to create virtual partitions. Unfortunately, you can no longer adjust the size of windows within each frame that you create; just silly. For those who hold regular virtual meetings that require you to share your screen, there’s apparently no way to share just a frame/partition; others will see windows being very small.3. PIP is not supported in this model and neither is kvm.4. In use, I realize that the number of USB ports in the back are not quite adequate in number. The box does not come with a USB C to USB A/C cable that can be used to link the USB ports on the monitor with the computer.

Good picture quality, but USB-C does not work

Updated two weeks after purchase:I ended up returning this. The height adjustment issue mentioned below is a deal breaker. I also felt that the ultra wide feature does not improve productivity as much as people said. So I will stick to a normal monitorPros: very good picture quality. I connected it with my macbook pro M1 and I found the fonts too small at 3440 x 1440 (default), so I scaled it up to 2560 x 1080. Looks good nowCons: the USB-port for some reason did not work. After connecting it, the screen does not have any signal. Also, it is good that this monitor has a height adjustment feature, but the lowest point of the monitor is still too high. I must sit up straight in order to look at it from a comfortable angleOverall it has some really good aspect but some major issue. I am debating if I should keep it or return it.

    Perfectly replaced 2 monitors

I’ve been using 2 monitors at home for years. I saw one of these at the office and noticed how high resolution this was and decided to replace my 2 home monitors with this. I can easily put multiple applications on this as if i had multiple monitors. I really love it when working on spreadsheets as i can see way more rows and columns now which is fantastic. It was simple to hook up by merely plugging in the HDMI cable. One reboot later and my PC picked up the new monitor and i was off and computing. I have used it to watch movies on Netflix and it is excellent. I’ve not used it for gaming as i don’t play games but i bet if i did I imagine it would work just fine.Update: 1 day later i awoke to see the monitor had extremely visible horizontal lines across the entire screen starting from the right side where they are hardly visible, moving across to the left side where i can barely see the icons on the left. A reboot and change or HDMI cable did nothing to fix it. I figure i just got a lemon and put in for a refund and am sending it back. The seller sent me an RMA and hopefully it all goes smooth. It does highlight one issue of purchasing a bigger item like this on Amazon … sending it back is a pain as i have to package and take to UPS. It would be great if Khols took everything back on behalf of Amazon but apparently this is considered a gaming item.

Fantastic work/productivity/coding monitor, and screen split software is great

I bought this monitor to help with my neck pain – I realized that I had been slightly turned to one side all day when using a secondary monitor to the left of my laptop screen. Now, I have one big monitor right in front, and my head turning is more evenly distributed. The resolution is fantastic, the setup was super simple (once I used the USB-C…for some reason, the HDMI cable made the resolution funky), and it looks great. I’ve been using the monitor for a month and (knock on wood) haven’t noticed any issues.I really like LG’s OnScreen software, which allows you to choose from a large number of split screen configurations. I’m on Windows, and the usual options are 1/2 screen and 1/4 screen. The LG software is nicely integrated on my desktop and allows me to use 1/3’s, a 2/3+1/3 configuration, and more.Great value for money in my opinion.

    Great first impression

I got this the first day it was available for purchase. I’ve another 29″ LG IPS ultra wide as well, which has been great, but I’ve been looking for a larger screen. I used a 43″ 4k tv for a while but quickly gave up as my neck started to hurt from looking up. I do a lot of work that requires a large screen. I prefer one large screen over two small ones to stay focused. The screen size and the price were right and a great value for the features. I needed to calibrate it. After that colors were super accurate. The IPS panel did help The curve made it easier to focus too. The simple to operate height adjustment was a great bonus, and very useful to me since I have a height adjustable desk. I don’t game – haven’t in a long while at least, so I don’t know how it’ll work there. I program and render graphics, both of which are easier with this monitor. Overall, I have been very happy with my purchase and highly recommend it, especially if you’re going to use it for anything that requires accurate colors and sharp looking images.

    Where is MY REFUND?

I returned this monitor due to the poor quality and poor pixel and inaccurate description. My business partner bought the same monitor at Micro Center ( a electronic store) and was telling me to buy the same one on Amazon since it was on sale.So when I bought it and he hooked it up side by side.. you can tell the pixels and word quality and vibrancy IS NOT THE SAME.I quickly returned it the next day and UPS picked it up because we were SO DISAPPOINTED with the quality. Even after playing around with the settings, we couldn’t understand why it wasn’t the same quality. Here is PROOF . And ALSO I RETURNED THIS PRODUCT OVER 30 DAYS! ITS BEEN 34 DAYS AND I HAVENT GOTTEN MY REFUND EVEN THOUGH IT HAS SAID ITS BEEN DELIVERED SAFELY BACK TO SELLER/AMAZON!!WHERE IS MY REFUND! WHY ARE YOU KEEPING MY MONEY AND KEEPING YOUR PRODUCT?! THIS IS NOT RIGHT!!IVE TRIED CONTACTING AMAZON and they said I need to wait.. HOW MUCH LONGER? YOU GUYS HAVE OVER $300 DOLLARS OF MY MONEY AND I HAVE RETURNED YOUR PRODUCT UNUSED!!I just checked to see the quality and see if there was anything wrong with it and I was disappointed with the quality . The product was set back with original box and all the packaging undamaged!!What is going on!!? Can SOMEONE GET BACK TO ME ABOUT THIS?!THIS IS NOT OKAY FOR YOU TO KEEP MY MONEY AND HAVE YOUR PRODUCT RETURNED!

Works great, but the charging is a bit flaky

I think this is a great monitor for the price. I use it for office work, not gaming or watching movies, and it is perfect. My only issue with the monitor is that sometimes the PD doesn’t actually charge the laptop. This is normally not a big deal (although annoying), but in my case with a MacBook Pro, the laptop still sees it as “charging” even though the battery is depleting and therefore does not warn me about low battery.Since it works 90%+ of the time, It has now happened 5-10 times where I am working and suddenly my laptop just shuts down due to low battery. Especially annoying when it happens in the middle of a meeting. In my internet searches, it seems this is not isolated to MacBook Pros and it is certainly not isolated to my machine since I have a personal and work MBP and both have experienced this issue. It is quickly fixed by unplugging the monitor, holding the center button for a few seconds to ensure all power is discharged, and then plugging it back in.I’m giving it 4-stars because it is still a great monitor and this nuisance only happens once in a while, but still not something I am willing to overlook and give 5-stars for.

    High Quality, Accurate Color, Roomy

I switched to this ultra-wide monitor wondering if I’d use all the real-state. I had 2 monitors, but found I was usually just using one. Well, I do! It is a real luxury to be able to simply slide several apps and windows around moment to moment. I have the same amount of screen as I did with 2, but for some reason I’m utilizing all the screens – the curve does help me too.Pros: excellent color matching, the IPS delivers a very steady and sharp image, it is light and works well on an arm.Cons: I had to mess around quite a bit to get the refresh rate to 60Mhz and finally settled on giving up the USB-C feature and switching to HDMI – one more cable… Also, can be jagged rendering certain fonts – its a bit inconsistent. I agree with many – the stand is too limited (up down tilt) and does not go low enough for me to look slightly down at it. Also could not get the speakers working; still haven’t figured that outSo the big misses – refresh rate management and superfine text smoothing would be the big ones.Otherwise, I’m hooked. What a steady and mostly easy to manage monitor!

    Several Problems with the Design

Bought this on sale good price but had problems hooking the DVM up, Chatted with customer service for 3 hours and the individual did not know a lot. Didn’t fix it. Customer service said they would send me a email back to go over the problem, never did. I researched and finally was able to figure out the DVM adjustment. The DVM is not automatic. You have to punch the joystick on the back of the monitor to switch to the other computer. The joystick is about 3 inches on the backside of the monitor which is about 3 feet away from you. This is very awkward. I think you would be better off buying a dvm switch and a cheaper monitor that is just as good. The monitor has no speakers so now I do not have sound over my pc’s and i will have to buy a speaker with a usb connection. If the DVM had been on the front of the monitor, I would have given this one more start higher. Would not buy again

Beware that the 34WQ73A-B is barely curved

I have an older LG curved monitor, and wanted a replacement that does not require a hub with HDMI cable to connect my MacBook to it. There was a good Black Friday deal on this newer model, the 34WQ73A-B, so I bought this. But unfortunately, despite the photo and description, this monitor is barely curved. If I put a long ruler on the front, I can barely put my thumb in the space in the middle. My old monitor has space for two thumbs, so twice as much. The lack of curvature makes it hard to view the left and right parts of the monitor. I am returning this, very disappointed.

Great functionality, size, picture and height adjustability for using with multiple computers.

So far so good after a month or so. I have the screen connected to both my personal hp laptop via HDMI and to the docking station for my work Dell laptop via USB-C. The toggle switch for screen settings and for switching inputhis works very well, but if feels a little flimsy and I worry about it breaking off because I use it several times a day. We’ll see! I love the preset picture modes. It’s great to be able to easily switch from Vivid which provides an nice bright screen with vivid colors for watching videos to Reader mode which tones things down dramatically to protect your eyes while reviewing/editing documents. The height adjustability was my main reason for choosing this one, because most large monitor stands are too high for my purposes (I have a tv screen on the wall beyond my desk and I needed the monitor to get low enough that I could see over it without staining my neck). An integrated web cam would have been nice, but at this price sintering had to give. The curved screen provides a great view from all angles. Overall, exactly what I needed. I do not use it for gaming so can’t speak be to that.

Very durable and yet more than what what is needed for average computer use.

Best computer monitor I have ever own. I have haul this monitor around to many places in a travel trailer and yet it continues to function like new. The monitor sit on a hard table top in my trailer secure with a single bungee cord. I have transported it on long trap facedown in the trunk of my SUV with no padding. Yet it continues to function with no defect. The picture quality is the best. So, what do use this monitor for/with? Mostly use with my iPad 11 Pro (2020) for general computing. Since the iPad is my primary computer, I just get a big square (viewable area) in the middle of the screen with two black bars on the right and left side of the screen. The viewable area is approximately about 23 inches diagonally. Some contents like movies and photos will fill the screen for view pleasure. The blue color USB port in the back of the screen allows me to connect blue USB devices like flash drives and high performance cameras with no problem. Over all this was a good buy. I’m happy.

Decent monitor with a gimmick kvm

Decent monitor with IPS screen and PD passthrough. Color look pretty good. Using the monitor for productivity, so 60hz isn’t an issue. Not many 34in QHD IPS monitor at the lower 300 range, so it is a good value. Intel Macbook worked as soon as I connected it, and no issues getting charged by the monitor.Annoyances on this monitor. The KVM is kind of a gimmick, since it is software based. Didn’t buy it for the KVM, but was thinking it might be a physical KVM. Also the software is only for Windows 10, so no OSX support. The monitor seemed it might be targeting Macs, but this ruins it if you are looking for the KVM feature. Also more USB ports would not hurt. A mouse and keyboard can easily use up both ports. Probably limited bandwidth, since video is also passing over USB C. Having the USB with the headphone might be a better layout, since the ports are facing downward. On other note, it doesn’t seem to know how to get video from my Samsung Note 9 via USB C. The phone works with most generic hubs that have HDMI, so kind of surprised it doesn’t work with the monitor.Edit:The screen has started acting up after just a few hours, every couple of seconds, one of the colors shift up a row of pixels and makes the screen all blurry. It isn’t an input issue, since it happens with nothing plugged in. Also the monitor keeps starting and stopping charging while the screen is asleep randomly.Edit 2:Something was wrong with the first monitor. The second monitor has been fine and doesn’t have the issue with the pixels shifting. Also the monitor seems to provide constant power during sleep unlike the first one.Edit 3:Second monitor has also started randomly start and stop supplying power every couple of minutes during sleep like the first one. Power cycling (unplug and replug) seems to fix it for a day before it comes back again. The main annoyance of when it stop and starts charging is that it wakes the monitor, which can be very annoying in the middle of the night.

    So far its great

I just received and setup this monitor, and so far I am fairly happy with it. All ports work as intended, the picture quality is very good, and colors are vibrant. A few comments that are somewhat annoying:Wish this had freesync, even with a 60hz refresh. The ergo version of this monitor has freesync but no usb-c, which is why i decided to go with this model. I use a mac in addition to a PC so the usb-c was a must have on my list. The packaging did not come with a displayport cable, but did come with hdmi and usb-c. This was a bit annoying.I dont understand why LG doesnt sell the ergo version with a usb-c port , as this would have been the ideal monitor purchase for me covering all my needs. Somehow this monitor is more expensive than that version, all for just having a usb-c port. I am left having to choose between a usb-c port without the ergo stand, or the ergo stand with no usb-c. Alternatively, it would be nice to have the option to purchase the ergo stand separately if they cannot sell a usb-c version of the ergo model.

    Excellent colors, sharpness, minor nits

The curve takes a day or two to get used to. It makes me feel more “inside” the screen. Now that I’m used to it I don’t think I can go back to a flat screen monitor ever again. This is a beautiful display! I’m a software developer and use this monitor 8-12 hours a day. For me it is worth the expense. I’m overall more productive with 34″ of screen real estate running at 3440×1440 vs my old 27″.Minor issues:It is mainly docked to my MacBook Pro via USB-C. Sometimes the monitor’s USB-C provided power is enough to charge the laptop (whoo hoo one cable for video + power). However, I found in cases where my battery is not fully charged and I’m doing a lot at once, I still need to plug in a second USB-C cable connected to the charger. That was a bit of a bummer but I can live with it. Hence 4/5 stars.Switching between inputs is a bit cumbersome – it does not auto detect that another input is available. So I have to double tap the control button, hit the left arrow, and scroll to select the other device. I don’t do it that often, so again not a deal breaker but for $500 LG should have made it easier.

KVM button is just an OSD button

I bought this monitor primarily because of the KVM functionality, and was disappointed to find out that the pictured KVM button doesn’t actually switch the inputs but brings up a normal on screen display. To change inputs you must push the button to bring up OSD, toggle left to input selection, toggle up or down to switch between the 4 inputs, press the button to select. So it’s not streamlined to switch between connected devices. None of the LG software has input switching functionality either so I would say that this monitor is not a great choice for someone who has to switch between a personally owned device and a work device with network restrictions.

Been using this for a year and I’m not thrilled

This monitor is just okay. It’s actually quite frustrating. I wouldn’t buy it again. At first I had a lot of trouble getting the color right but I had to adjust the HDR settings and was able to fix it. That was the first sign of frustration. After a few months, I realized that the USB-A ports on the back of the monitor would randomly stop working. For example, I would have my Logitech webcam plug into the monitor’s USB-A port. It would work fine for several days even weeks and then out of nowhere the camera isn’t found by my computer (either computer — I have a personal and work laptop). The fix is plugging the camera USB right into the computer. It’s incredibly frustrating and I haven’t been able to find a solution for this despite seeing this issue on forums across the internet.

USE THE CABLES IT COMES WITH!

Using this monitor with my Macbook Pro. At first I tried to connect it via my own Hdmi cable and all I got was flickering, white dots and the screen going on and off sporadically. Then I connected it with the USB-C cable it came with and it worked perfectly fine. It will not work by connecting the cables to my dock station. I tried a different Hdmi cable and that also gave me the same issue. So after talking to Amazon customer service (which was no help) and then getting transferred to a LG tech rep, I played around with the resolution of the LG monitor and it seems to be working fine once changed to 2560 x 1080. When I used the Hdmi cable that it came with, it automatically set it to this resolution setting. I then switched it to what’s recommended which is 3440 x 1440 and so far it seems to be working fine. So, my verdict, just make sure to use the cables it comes with and don’t bother plugging them into a docking station.

    Very nice

I work from home and absolutely love this monitor!! HOWEVER all 3 usb ports stopped working within the first 2-3 weeks so I returned the monitor and bought a new one but same thing happened with 2nd one, which is why I gave it 4 stars. Thankfully I don’t NEED to use those ports but I’m still a lil salty that they don’t work lol

Great monitor for business applications, photos and overall NON-gaming use! No blurry text/fonts!

I’ve purchased numerous monitors in the last few weeks trying to find one for “everyday/office work” as many these days are built around gaming. I was looking for color accuracy and sharp text/fonts, but found that a lot of the monitors out there render Mac fonts blurry (even with fonts smoothing disabled). The machines I’m using are all recent (2018 MBP and 2019 MBP) so it was not an OS or hardware issue.I tried a 4k IPS monitor (resolution was too high and things were small. upscaling defeated the purpose of 4k), a 32″ flat IPS monitor which the fonts looked horrible and was fished eyed since the monitor was so big and flat the edges needed to be curved, the AOC 34″ ultra wide 144Hz monitor which was ok, but was a VA panel, not very bright and fonts looked blurry. After doing hours and hours of more research curved IPS was the way to go and I finally landed on this 34″ LG monitor or the Dell 38″. with COVID the Dell’s price went back up to over 1k so I decided to give this LG with the USB C version a try. For the money, it solved my blurry font issue, screen brightness, and overall screen size for business/productivity applications.I give this monitor an 7.5 – 8 with the only improvement to be made are with the stand (the single pillar wobbles if you bump your desk), the overall look (it’s ugly compared to the other monitors from Dell, AOC, Acer, Samsung) and the ports placements. These are on the back vs bottom of the screen so cosmetically look ugly from behind and not as functional to plug in than if there were located on the bottom. With that said no more blurry fonts so for me it works!

Great for 6 months. Only works for hdmi now and poor customer service

Product has been great for working, feels like I have two 17″ screens. Perfect for holding excel on one side and surfing the web on the other. The multiple ports are great too. Purchased this back in December 19′ and when it comes to HDMI, no issues. Also, the multiple screen options are great! It is a heavy base and consumes a lot of space so I definitely suggest purchasing an ARM for the monitor.I did have issues though, the USB Ports never seemed to charge my devices which did bother me, thought maybe its something small I can overlook given I didn’t use them. Then recently, the USB C became unresponsive which was a real issue, especially given I just purchased the new Macbook Pro, but to better or worse, made sure to set my device up with LG Warranty once I received it.Submitted a Repair on LG Site, week later (now), someone came to check on it. No charge, and now they will be sending me a new MotherBoard. Glad I placed the device under Warranty & hope the new motherboard can repair the dead ports. Happy of the response time and them sending someone to check on it, sucks that it is messing up, but glad they willing to fix it.Definitely suggest for anyone that wants to watch a few videos between work or has to have multiple screens open but a sleek desk.- UPDATE:AFTER THEY CAME TO CHECK AND INFORMER ME I WILL NEED A NEW MAIN BOARD. 0 ASSISTANCE SINCE THAN, VERY VERY POOR RESPONSE TIME AND INCONSISTENT ANSWERS. VERY DISAPPOINTING. MAIN BOARD STOPPED READING UCB C, USB, & Every other port besides hdmi. Expecting the HDMI to die soon at this rate.

Awesome monitor – be careful not to tip it

I can’t say enough “good” about the appearance and performance of this monitor. Contrast, color, and mounting flexibility are great. And *so* much screen real-estate – even if you are used to a multi-monitor setup, this is a boost. Caution: I tipped my *first* one over and it did not survive – it fell on its face on the desktop and all I had left was lots of blinking and stripes- it was a goner. The “any cause” warranty isn’t especially cheap, but if you are a klutz (ahem) or live in a high-interference kids/cats/dogs sort of environment, you may want to consider it.

    Nice but some issues

I purchased this monitor for its built it KVM functionality however after setting it up, I realized it won’t work with my setup. The two computers sharing the monitor must be able to communicate with each other and neither one can be on a VPN. This is more of a software KVM, not hardware KVM. If you have a work computer and personal computer, this feature may not work for you. Also every so often the screen with blink black. Happens with different computers and the only solution I’ve found has been to unplug it and plug it back in. Nice screen but these issues/limitations have been frustrating.

Glad I waited for the newer monitors. It has a 100mm Vesa mounting.

Wanted a curved 34″ wide screen OLED monitor at a decent price, but they don’t make them. So I had to settle for IPS panel. The ad is misleading, it says IPS in most and on LG website, but here on place said it was not a IPS screen. The monitor looks good, especially small text, it is curved, but not that much, it’s perfect for me, and with the stand I bought I can pull the monitors real close to my head. I don’t use it for gaming. Music and video production. Amazon had the lowest price, some places wanted $150 more. So far I didn’t have to adjust anything out of the box. I am also able to put more things on it as I did with my 29″ wide screen LG monitor. That’s a LG 3D D-2743 monitor on top. Colors look accurate. Glad I bought it. If any complaint, I had to switch out the power cord for another, it was kind short to reach the power strip. I really need a longer one for this monitor stand.

    Screen real estate

Have been working now for almost 8 weeks with it and am more than please by its performance. It is an excellent solution to Apple’s M1/2 laptops that allow only one external monitor (without having to spend additional $$$ on add on equipment and cabling). For business purposes where there is no need to edit super high quality pictures or movies it’s a perfect solution. One important drawdown, it has only one USB C port (needed to plug the laptop for power and screen connexion) and two USB A/B ports. Would have preferred to have at least 2-3 USB C ports for my permanent attachments and could live w/o the USB A/B ports.

    Low quality screen or defective

Not bad 34″ UWQHD monitor for discounted price of 400$. But my monitor came with dead pixels which really making me nervous. There are 4-5 dead pixels located in area where I type URL address (I do it pretty often), so it is always in my field of view. Also you can see attached 100% black screen in dark room, one photo is done as it is, second one with 3 seconds exposure, I think comments are superfluous. I don’t like gaming or watching movie on a monitor in a dark room, so that’s not a big problem for me, but I was expecting much better levels of black. The funny thing is that it came with a picture calibration document. I’d like to see that person who calibrated the monitor and didn’t notice 5 dead pixels 🙁

Solid office monitor for my WFH setup (software development)

This is a review for the LG 34WQ73A-B, which appears to be a recent release (9/2022, review written 12/2022). TL;DR: This is an extremely good value for office use. I have more expensive monitors and I compare them in detail below.I have three other monitors to compare this against: an LG UltraFine 5K 27″, an LG 4k 27″ and an Alienware 34″ with the same resolution (gaming, 144hz). I went with this monitor (34WQ73A-B) because it has an IPS panel and my other LG IPS 4K and 5K screens have very good color accuracy; my MacBook Pro renders text to both very well. I didn’t need a high refresh for gaming, just 60Hz for office work as a software developer working in design systems. I have this placed next to my 5K UltraFine, which makes it easy to discern where it is a step down (pixel density). That said, it holds up well and is very comparable to my Alienware 34″ at the same resolution. Font smoothing isn’t as ideal as the 5K, but it looks good enough to not bother me at all. I use it for Zoom meetings, browser windows, and also code editing. I still prefer the 5K for previewing output (web development work on the front-end) but I’ll use this when the details or colors don’t matter as much.Regarding alternatives on the market, I had also considered stepping up to a 38″ monitor for 2-2.5x the price but I couldn’t justify the difference. It would have been the same pixel density, and only going to a 5K2K monitor at 38-40″ would have been a real improvement, but those cost around 4-5x as much. Like I said, next to a 5K 27″ monitor, it holds up and I’m not disappointed one bit, it does what it sets out to do very well. The value here is unmatched.I also compared its HDR performance next to my 5K and it held up really well (see the first photo with both displays). I had to turn the brightness to 100%, and made sure the HDR options were enabled. It was slightly less bright than my 5K, so I intentionally lowered the brightness on my 5K to match it better; the 5K was at 100% initially which was probably too bright for everyday use in the first place. The 5K at around 50% brightness matches the 34WQ73A-B at 100% brightness, so I feel like the 34WQ73A-B is a relatively dim monitor best suited to medium to low light settings. I don’t work in a bright room, I keep my lights low and warm, so this is not an issue. In a bright space with lots of sunlight, it could be more of an issue, so keep that in mind. It probably wouldn’t matter with good contrast, but darker images might not show up as well.If I could call out any other cons, it would probably be the backlight bleed. One photo shows approximately what you would see in a dark room (I turned off the lights) and the photo with a brighter backlight bleed is from the camera auto-exposing to a higher degree. It does not look like the brighter photo but it’s still a good photo to show what the backlight variance is like. In everyday use, it’s not a problem. I think it would handle a movie just fine even with dark scenes, it would just fall short of what an OLED TV panel could do.Again, if you research what a panel like this can do, I think this is going to deliver on what it should be capable of. At the current price point, it’s one of the best values I’ve ever had in all my monitor purchasing. Each of my four monitors all fill a slightly different expectation and I’m pretty happy with my two setups for gaming (27″ 4K + 34″ 3440×1440 144Hz) and office (27″ 5K + this LG 34″ 3440×1440 60Hz). I think this is ideal as a value-oriented office monitor and you’d have to spend 5x as much to really have a noticeable upgrade in the ultrawide format.

Solid monitor. USB-C only a partial solution

I’ll qualify that I knew of the shortcomings before buying, so overall I still think this is an excellent product and worth the money (@$550) depending on your needs.Pros:- Great panel- Fantastic for work- Maybe I’m weird here, but… Thank you for leaving speakers out. Who is spending >$500 on a monitor and can’t afford a cheap pair of speakers- Solid stand- Functional curve- Plenty of I/OCons:- Stand isn’t the best LG has- USB ports, with USB-C used for display, are limited to USB2.0 speeds- Some may not like 60Hz if they’re looking to game a lot.Usability:I’m using this monitor for work alongside an M1 macbook pro. I was becoming frustrated with using a displaylink dock, knowing that it wasn’t natively driving 2 displays. For most, that solution probably works fine, but I couldn’t get it out of my head that I was using CPU cycles to run additional monitors non-natively.So, I decided to swap 2 2560×1080 ultra-wides for this. Yes, I lost some vertical screen real estate, but having the extra vertical real estate for a single window actually opens up the workflow better in my opinion. So, all in all, the real estate on this monitor is perfect for my workflow (Software Support).Screen:The curve is perfect. Not too “immersive,” but I don’t need to physically move my head to see the extremes. I first tested out a flat screen 3440×1440 and this was the case.IPS glow is present (as with any IPS panel I’ve experienced), but not distracting.Lighting is uniform except for the very edges of the screen. In particular, on the bottom edge, there are just a couple millimeters of slightly darker areas. I’m just nitpicking here. Still very pleased with the backlighting compared to my old IPS.Pixel density is perfect. No scaling required, but text is crisp. It all looks as I would expect.I’m not a photo. editor, so I can’t speak to color accuracy. I will say that along side my m1 mbp panel, the colors seems just as good. Contrast is not as high, but not far off for what I’m doing.I’ve dabbled in games and have always been fine with 60Hz. It’s plenty smooth for my needs. Gamers these days are probably going to want more though. I just didn’t think it was worth it for the extra money to maintain an IPS panel. I wasn’t willing to cheap out on a VA panel due to black smearing. For me, this panel is still perfect.Stand:I appreciate that most new monitors seem to have height adjustment now, and this one has it. That being said, I was disappointed with the stand compared to LGs TAA compliant panels which seem to be more targeted at business. They’re no frills solid, heavy stands with all the adjustment you want. Those stands provide height, swivel, and tilt adjustment. This does support their One-click setup, so I suppose I could try to find one of those stands. This panel does not have swivel, but that’s ok for a curved monitor. My issue is not with the lack of adjustment, but the quality of the mechanics. The spine of the stand, in pictures, seems to indicate its a brushed metal. It’s not. It is plastic. The stand is still sturdy, once set, but it still just feels like it has cut corners compared to the others. That being said, had I not experienced the other LG stand, I would probably be calling this a good one. If you’re upgrading from an older monitor, you’ll probably love it.I/O:On paper, it has all the I/O you need for a single cable solution. USB-C Charging and display, 2 usb connections, great! This may be true, depending on your peripherals. Something a bit disappointing, though apparent when searching the documentation, is that if you’re using USB-C for your display, the USB A ports on the back will only function as USB 2.0. For what many will use this for, a mouse and keyboard, you will have no issue. However, I wanted to use a USB3.0 dongle for further expansion, and a gigabit ethernet adapter. When utilizing this particular dongle at USB2.0, I cannot get higher than 300Mb/s . So you may be asking, why are you interested in the USB ports if you already have a dongle. The short answer is that the dongle is USB-A, and the macbook only has USB-C. As a result, I’ve switched to using one of the Apple USB-C to USBC/USBA/HDMI dongles. Problem solved. I’m just running the display through HDMI

    Great monitor for many

I use this monitor for work, and it is massive! I have it next to my Dell 27″ and it looks so much better. The screen is bright and build quality is great. My favorite feature is the USB Power Transfer. I have everything connected to my monitor and then one USB-C (provided) to my laptop. It even charges my laptop. I barely have any cables now! It is a great set up! I also purchased it because it was an IPS screen which seems high quality and offers PBP which I have yet to use.Potential negatives:1-If you want a significant curve to the screen, this curve is minimal. I sorta regret not getting a more noticeable curve.2-It has adjustable height which is an amazing feature, but it only goes up and down very little. I wanted to lower it more, but it does not allow.

    Manuals

I would have gave this product a 5 star rating if only the manuals had more description about the features this monitor can offer. When I decided to consider this LG monitor I began doing additional research on YouTube and other medias and learned about on-screen control and dual monitors. When the LG monitor was delivered, setup was easy (plug & play) but when I read the manual for software install and user instructions, there was nothing to be found. I went back to YouTube and learned more about the optional software and where it could be downloaded from (lg.com).Now my review of the LG monitor. I had dual monitors in the past and this LG monitor offers the same capabilities and more on just one monitor. I use this monitor for business and personal use with a simple two split screen but the software allows you to split the screen in several different ways. It’s also nice that with one screen you can easily switch to full screen for apps and video when needed. The monitor’s picture is crisp, clear with no jitteringThis LG monitor offers everything I wanted and more

    INCREDIBLE MONITOR

My old laptop allowed me to connect two external monitors. I got a new one in 2020 that only allows one external monitor and with my job, I need as many screens as possible. I bought this one for size & the curved shape for more productivity and space on my desk. IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY. It’s sturdy, the screen is clear and vibrant. It fits on my desk perfectly and I can fit so many projects on it at once. I also watched netflix on it while eating lunch & the video was incredible, which leads me to believe gamers would do well with this monitor. Best monitor I’ve had hands down. Gladly passed down my Mac monitors for this one. It was also super easy to set up right out of the box and came with a ton of cords for HDMI & USB-C

University Student Review – Pros and Cons

I will try my best to make it as short and concise as possible. Note that I use this screen with two main laptop devices: ASUS zen book, and MacBook Pro M1 14″. From prospective of a university student:–Pros–* Size! I can’t emphasize this enough but this size is just perfect. It allows me to open several apps/programs at the same time. Mainly useful when reading papers or when coding (as will as following tutorials).* Versatility is pretty good. It is a little shy from perfect. That is because the lack of rotating sideways (around the vertical pivot). You would have to rotate the whole base to do that.* Picture quality is amazing. Can’t be as good as the MacBook Pro screen but it differently doesn’t look bad either. When using it with my other laptop (Asus), it shows its true perks.* USB connectivity is very useful. I won’t go into more details about this but I highly recommend searching on the web why this is useful.–Cons–* sturdiness is a bit of a problem. If you set the screen at the highest extension, it wiggles pretty easily. You would have to have a super sturdy desk to limit this wiggling but that would still not help that much.* lack of speakers. Paying this much for a screen would be great to have a built in speakers. Unfortunately, depending on your desk setup, you might want to get external speakers. I am at the point of seriously getting one after few months of use.* Not enough USB ports—-EXTRA Advice—-You might see reviews of other users online complaining about USB-C connectivity that it stopped working after a while. From my experience, this has happened to me two times where I could connect to the screen but my MacBook Pro was not charging. I found out it got back to normal once I updated the system. My take is you need to keep your system up to date all the time to ensure functionality. That is said, I am still having a problem of display settings getting back to default once my laptop gets into the sleep mode. It doesn’t happen all the time but it happens often and it is not a pleasant experience. I will update my review if I find a solution to this issue.

A great monitor, works with M1 MBP.

I was in decision paralysis trying to make sense of the options between 34, 38, and 40 inch monitors. Many reviews discuss scaling issues with retina MacBooks, but let me put your mind at ease, the 3840×1440 resolution works well for my M1 MacBook Pro. Is it as sharp or crisp as a Pro Display XDR or an iMac? Definitely not. But those displays also aren’t as wide as this that allows for two windows to sit side by side at near 1:1 ratio. I’m looking at SQL code all day and with my middle aged eyes everything is sharp and readable without strain. I sit about 70cm from the display, for context. As for the size debate, my experience is that when sitting and looking dead center in front the monitor, my peripheral vision picks up some viewing angle darkness in the corners. As I turn my head to look at the side edges, the viewing angle improves and I don’t see the darkening. I feel 38 might have been a tad too wide for my standing distance, so I happily am using the 34.

Nice UltraWide For MacBook (USB-C with PD and hub)

I recently changed jobs and decided to change from using a dual monitor setup to this UltraWide monitor, and overall I’m quite pleased with it. The panel in general has been good so far, and looks very nice paired with my MacBook, which was just plug and play with the included USB-C cable. For the price point, this monitor has been great and has all the features I was looking for, specifically USB-C connectivity with Power Delivery (charges laptop up to 60W, which has been plenty for my M1 MacBook Pro as well as hub/data transfer, which is nice to be able to have one cable without needing a dock (though may not be enough to charge more power hungry laptops). It is quite sleek looking with the included base, and is VESA mount capable, which I’ll likely take advantage of in the future. The screen itself is plenty bright, even with backlighting set at 50%, and is quite sleek and close to “borderless”. Colors look natural and the resolution is sharp and looks great with MacOS. The built-in speakers are also fine, better than many other monitors I’ve used/owned, but not a substitute for external speakers for listening to music, at least for me. For general/office use they’re fine.My one “nit-pick” is that the screen has a factory installed matte film over it which I understand is to reduce glare and finger prints. In concept this is a nice idea, and it does make the monitor easy to clean. That said, when first opening/turning on i could see a few tiny bubbles/imperfections near the edges which made me think this was a removable plastic film… it’s not. The bubbles/imperfections are hardly noticeable, only with close inspection of the borders when the screen is off. Very minor imprecation in this built-in film aside, I do see benefits in glare reduction and ease of cleaning. All that said, it would be nice if there were no imperfections at all… considering this was pre-installed at the factory and is not removable without damaging the screen.Overall, I’ve found this to be a good monitor for the price point, and have been quite satisfied with it.

    Mehhhh

I think Apple Retina displays have “ruined” my expectations and have now become the standard that judge displays by. I have a 2017 iMac 5K and a 2022 M1 MacBook Pro. I bought this monitor to use as a display mostly for the MacBook…primarily for video editing.CONS: Wow was I disappointed at the overall image quality. I didn’t think it would be as much of a difference as there is. Brightness is really lacking (even though reviews I read/watched indicated it was bearable). The image wasn’t very crisp either. I figured the resolution would suffice, but likely the 60Hz refresh rate wasn’t enough.PROS: I LOVE the amount of screen real estate. it’s the main reason you buy a wide/ultra-wide monitor. Setup was easy – mounted on my own desk arm (VESA 100 form factor). The monitor is very light for the size. it came with all the cables you’d need for its ports.Summary: if I had not been exposed to using Apple’s crazy good quality panels, I’d probably have kept this monitor since my point of reference would be different. Now I guess I have to look at the LG 40WP95C-W 40 5K monitor with a higher refresh rate (that thing is about 4 times the price though…yikes). Might have to wait for business to become more lucrative to justify that purchase.

Everything is great but the USBs are completely unusable

I like everything about this monitor aside from the fact that you literally can’t use the USB ports. Even when I have my laptop plugged in via USB-C which is what I’ve found the solution to be after research. I use LED lights on the back of my desktop as well as speakers that get powered via USB and now have to find alternative ways to power those. I get a message on my mac that says “USB Accessories Disabled. Unplug the accessory using too much power to re-enable USB devices” … I’ve tried different things from an iphone charger to charging headphones etc.. but regardless I get this same message. I think this is such a stupid thing to slip up on with such a great monitor. The ONLY reason I’m not returning for that issue alone is because I got it on a great sale so I’ll just have to run power down the back of my desk for my items.

*NEVER* buy monitors from Amazon Warehouse (refurb)

Ok, so why am I writing this review… Well, I’ve purchased two of these monitors in the past and love them. I use them daily and normally would give the monitor a 5-star…. But this third monitor I’ve tried to buy, I decided to get from Amazon Warehouse (refurb) to save $100… Boy was that a mistake… I’m literally on my fourth monitor shipped to me with failures and am about to just return the entire thing and buy new.The first monitor I received, the red hue was shot. Basically it was in overdrive and everything had either a bright pink or red tint to it. Reset the monitor, modified settings, changed cables, everything you could think of I tried to no avail. I *did* notice that the monitor reported it had well over 1800 hours of use on it (I had just opened the box) so someone who hard it previously used it until something went wrong then they returned it. Its apparent that the warehouse doesn’t really “check” these things other than turn them on and say, “yep, the screen turned on”. Sent this one back for a replacement. The second monitor that arrived wasn’t even the same part number (the difference was that the one I ordered had a USB-C port on it and this monitor they sent didn’t have that. Model was missing the -B at the end of it). Couldn’t use it with my MacBook Pro. Did test it with an HDMI cable off of a different laptop so it looked ok, but without the USB-C interface…. back it went. The third monitor had the right connectors, had the scratch tape around the edges (but the back looked like it had been dragged around somewhere). Took a quick look at usage and only found about 43 hours on it. Plugged it in and was happy! For about 15 minute when the screen went blank. Played with it, changed cables, power cycled, etc. Got grumpy and left it unplugged. 10 minutes later tried it again and voila it worked! For about 15 minutes then blanked out again. Did this two more times to verify that something in the monitor was not happy (overheated part, cold solder joint, something, who knows). I really wanted this to work as I was getting tired of not having a monitor but finally gave up and shipped that one back…Mind you, this now has gone on for a month. Even with rapid shipping and the like, it takes time in life to get these to the UPS store, deal with USPS being “slow” and “delivering” when they in fact haven’t, etc.Onto the forth (and the last monitor that I’m going to deal with the warehouse over). This time everything looked good again until I noticed that the timer on the monitor had over 1800 hours… and the red tint was back… I think they shipped me the monitor I shipped back to them the first time.I give up…

    Fantastic monitor with some issues

I got this to hook up to my business laptop (HP Elitebook 1040 X360 G7). The screen split software works well for what I need it to do without any issues and the colors are sharp. I use this monitor on a commercial grade standing desk which has a butcher block top so it’s very sturdy. The #1 gripe I have with it is that the mount is absolute junk if your desk has ANY movement at all when you’re typing. I mean the thing wobbles constantly when I’m typing because the mount is not sturdy enough. It’s endlessly irritating. Going to have to get a monitor stand to hook up to my desk for this one because the amount of wobble here is just absurd. The colors are good for office use (I won’t be gaming on it), so the refresh rate also doesn’t matter to me since I didn’t buy it for gaming. Now for the good part: The USB-C connection is amazing. I can run my mouse and keyboard off the inputs on the monitor, so I don’t need to mess around with cables. Fantastic connectivity options which was the #1 reason I got this monitor to begin with. I moved up to this unit after my motherboard died on my desktop, where I was using dual 20″ 1600×1200 monitors (yes I’m old school like that), and the width and height is the same compared to those two monitors, which makes me ecstatic. Documents and web browsing wastes very little space when windows are split side by side. Perfect what I need it to do.Honestly I’m overall happy with the monitor, but shame on LG for putting such a weak monitor stand on this thing.

Purchased for desktop use with MacBook and iPad Pro- Its great

Purchased for desktop use with MacBook and iPad Pro, comes with everything you need. Powered USB-C makes it great, has USB ports built in (awesome for using accessories). The only thing it does not have are built in speakers. Not a big deal, use a Bluetooth conference phone for sound. Really impressed, I had no budget, was getting ready to buy one for 1k, read the reviews, rolled the dice, no disappointments. This is our experience.

    Good overall

A little pricey, but I like it overall. I use it with a MacBook Air through usb-c, and works fine. I also use it for casual gaming with a ps5 (that does not support ultrawide, so quite a waste) through hdmi in 1440p. Pretty good office monitor (although I’m sure there are cheaper and equally valid alternatives), not so great gaming device

Make sure you get the right model

There are 3 similar models for this LG monitor. When it arrives, double check the box to make sure its the same model you ordered. Decent monitor otherwise

Amazon Customer Service is good as always

This display was defective and had a huge stripe of dead pixels across the middle of the screen. Hopefully it’s not a common problem. Also despite the advertising, the usb-c connector is not powerful enough to fully charge the laptop.. at least not that I can determine… I’ll update later when I get a replacementAs always Amazon Customer Service makes it easy to do returns and refunds.. so I’ll try purchasing another of the same model

very good screen and feature set

I love the stand that comes with the monitor. very sturdy and has a good amount of vertical adjustment and a little tilt. the instruction manual is garbage…. i’m not even sure they were included in the box, i ended up just downloading it from their website, instructions are Ikea style. pictures and step #s without any explanation. good thing that to get it setup is to simply connect the 3 parts together, which was fortunately pretty self explanatory but it would have been nice if they used words (in english) to better explain the steps and not just pictures to figure out.If you are worried about the ‘curve’, no worries, it’s very subtle and you can’t tell the difference when using it. I love how this version that i bought, had the USB C hub. I was able to connect my wife’s Macbook which only had 2 USB-C ports and nothing else (no power, no HDMI) and i was able to connect it directly to the monitor’s USB C port and i got not only the video/audio connection but it provided enough Power to the Macbook. So instead of using both of the Macbook’s USB-C ports for power and display connection, i only use a single cable directly to the monitor for everything. This is amazing for my wife as she brings the Macbook back and forth to home/work daily. Makes things easier for her. ***Do NOTE, that when i used the included Macbook USB-C cable, the Display connection did not work and i couldnt figure out why. UNTIL i used the monitor’s included USB-C cable to connect and it finally worked. I think the other USB-C cable was not capable to handle both the power and the video/audio but the monitor included cable was. So use that instead. It’s probably higher spec or newer version to support everything. The viewing angles are really good. That’s why i went with the IPS screen instead of a lower price on sale ‘gaming’ VA monitors. Better for the websites/spreadsheets.

IMPRESSIVE LG UltraWide QHD 34-Inch Curved Computer Monitor. Incredible value for the price!!

I am absolutely thrilled with my new LG UltraWide QHD 34-Inch Curved Computer Monitor (34WQ73A-B). The product arrived speedily, far quicker than I expected, in fact. Kudos to the LG team and their delivery partners for providing such an efficient service! This level of customer care, right from the moment of purchase to the super prompt delivery, undoubtedly sets the tone for an amazing experience. The setup was as breezy as a Sunday morning! The instructions were crystal clear, making the process incredibly easy even for someone who isn’t tech-savvy. Within no time, I was ready to experience this beauty of a product in all its glory. The thoughtful design and user-friendly features that LG has incorporated into this monitor make it a stand-out product in its category. Now, the moment you switch on the monitor, you can’t help but be amazed by the dazzling display. The colors are unbelievably vibrant, making images and videos come alive in a way I’ve never seen before. The QHD resolution and IPS technology harmonize perfectly, delivering a visual feast of clarity and sharpness. The curved screen is a game-changer, offering a panoramic view that completely engulfs you, further augmenting the immersive experience. But what stands out to me the most is the degree of color accuracy. As a graphic designer, color accuracy is of paramount importance to me. And the LG UltraWide QHD 34-Inch Curved Computer Monitor doesn’t disappoint at all! The colors are not only vibrant but also true-to-life. I feel like I have a professional studio-grade screen on my desk. I can’t recommend this product enough, it’s definitely worth every penny. Get ready to elevate your viewing experience to levels you’d never imagined before!

Works Great With My SurfacePro 4

I have a SurfacePro 4 laptop and as a Realtor I needed the extra “real estate” to work with multiple screens to do research, have my PC phone on, and multi-task without having to learn a ton of hot keys. It was a pain in the butt. I used to have a couple of 27″ monitors when I worked out of an office and was really missing it.This monitor has exceeded my expectations so far. I have it connected using the Cable Matters Mini DisplayPort to the monitor’s DisplayPort connection. The picture is sharp, colors look good, and was extremely bright out of the box. I made a few adjustments and it’s perfect now. Text is sharp and clear. Maps and satellite images look great. The monitor stand that comes with it is very versatile. Monitor can be tilted as well as leveled up and down with the shock-type base. Once it’s set, it doesn’t move at all. As for the monitor height, I’m able to adjust it perfectly to eye-level as well as keep it just over my laptop screen so I have full view of all screens. It will get pretty tall from a seated position, so if you have a standing desk it might work for you without additional brackets or VESA mounts. Just depends on the space you need.My only complaint is that is has an anti-glare coating on it that I almost tried to pull off. The top 2 corners are slightly not sealed up and made me think it was that protective shipping film. After a bunch of internet searches it looks like it’s supposed to stay. Probably need a little better QC to ensure it’s flush, but it’s not in the field of view and zero issue. As for anti-glare performance, between the film and the curve I’ve had zero issues, even with lights on behind me.I don’t use the monitor for gaming so I can’t comment on that. I haven’t noticed any “artifacts” like tearing, bleeding, pixels missing, or other usual issues that may be associated with flat panel monitors or TVs. I will say one thing, that the black levels are pretty damn good. The monitor when blank is pretty black and since I used a black/dark theme for my browser and Office products, I often lose the edge when I need to drag a window.I haven’t tried the LG software to create a virtual dual monitor that snaps the open windows into configuration. I usually just set it up and it’s fine. If my laptop goes to sleep or gets shut down it will remember where everything is. One thing that has happened a couple times is the Mini DisplayPort connector can lose it’s connection at times and then all the windows reduce to the laptop and I have to set drag them all back again. As far as size goes, 34″ is pretty perfect. Dual 27″ takes up a lot more space and then you’ve got the gap in the middle to work around. No noticeable panel seam in the middle of this thing, either. I’ve seen that comment made on some other cheaper monitors that were well-rated on Amazon. I’ve had good success with LG products, so I ‘m glad I spent a little more money for this. If you’re using it mostly for office and not gaming, I’d say this is an excellent balance of cost, performance, and quality. LG makes some ultra-wides that are over $1000 bucks and I spent a lot of time looking at specs to compare. Unless you need the higher performance of super-low response time and you can output well over 60hz, this monitor is everything you need.LG supplies a USB-C and HDMI cable in the box.

Great monitor in every way except for the on/off button!

This is a great monitor – bright and beautiful and the performance seems great. The stand and the adjustments are all top-notch. The only issue is that LG has elected to NOT have a dedicated on/off button, but rather a multi-function switch that was designed in the bowels of hell. It adjusts everything from brightness to picture and is also supposed to be the on/off button. Most of the time it works. Sometimes, it is nearly impossible to turn the monitor off because it keeps opening the settings menu or the brightness or the accessibility. It is infuriating and maddening, and I just wanted to vent after trying unsuccessfully to turn my monitor off five times in a row. Alas.

Great monitor with few areas to be aware of

I am writing this review after experiencing the monitor for couple of months to ensure that my review is well rounded and includes all the points one need to know of while making a decision to purchase this monitor. The context of my purchase:1. The pandemic has ensured that a lot of people like me are working from home. At some point we all feel two things (at least I felt): a. The laptop screens are too small for multi screen working b. The switching between work and personal laptops becomes a spot of bother.2. Depending on our pastime hobbies, we need a monitor that can help us work on a bigger screen as well as let us do our hobby related things on the same monitor. Photography is my hobby and and I process really large photographs on a regular basis besides constantly working from home.So an ideal scenario for me was to get a monitor that supports high resolution so I can see my large photos with decent clarity and also lets me work with multiple screens side by side. I went back and forth between a lot of monitors before deciding to buy this one.One reason I went for the ultrawide is that the height of the ultrawide monitors are less than the non-ultrawide due to the 16:9 ratio. This allows me to look straight into the monitor without craning my neck. Now specifics about the monitor:1. IPS panel and hence really crisp display corner to corner, great colors and sharpness.2. Supports high resolution laptops. I have a mac mini 2020 with dedicated graphics card. I love the way this monitor displays everything on the mac mini.3. Unpacking and setting up was a breeze.4. The screen splitting software is awesome. Allows you to split the screen in 2, 3 or 4 sections. Once installed on your laptops, you select the split you want and that’s it. As soon as you drag a specific application, the split window borders immediately appear and let you just drop the screen into the section you want and the application snugly fits into that section. I love this part actually. Now the difficulties I had to achieve the setup I was looking for.1. You can connect wireless keyboard and mouse straight into the monitor. Those devices get attached to the laptop you connect to the monitor without any issues.2. However, the monitor only has 1 USB-C port. So if you have two high resolution computers to attach to the monitor, you can’t connect simultaneously. You have to keep taking the cable off one and put on another to get the display. This is not the solution I was looking for.3. The HDMI ports don’t bring up high resolution display. My Mac Mini doesn’t even show anything on the monitor when connected to the HDMI port. My work Windows laptop shows a display on HDMI port, but with resolution so low that it is not usable.4. If you use a Display cable on the Display port, then you only throw the display to the monitor but you don’t get the advantage of sharing the keyboard and mouse through the monitor. So, I tried all the permutations and combinations to make it work so I can have both my work and personal computers connected to the monitor and I can switch between the two with the display select button of the monitor. Alas, didn’t work out. If only LG had two USB-C ports on the monitor. So after a lot of research, I bought this KVM switch that allows me to go back and forth between my two computers with the press of a button:https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08F42NXGC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1It is a pricy solution, but it finally achieved the setup I wanted. Now my two computers are connected to the switch along with the wireless keyboard and the mouse and the switch sends the display to the monitor through a dedicated display (HDMI) cable. I switch between my two computers with the button on the switch.I know it is more than just reviewing the monitor. But I am sure a lot of you want to have a similar setup at home and I wanted to write this to ensure that you know what you are getting into. Hope this helps.

    So far so great!

This monitor is absolutely fantastic. I’m using this as an external for my new 2021 Macbook Pro M1 16″, and the performance has been flawless so far! My old Philips 4K monitor would flicker under every color profile, and I constantly had to change the color profiles to prevent this from happening on a daily basis. But this new LG was plug-and-play, super easy assembly with no tools necessary, and it NEVER flickers, no matter what color profile I set it at. It doesn’t take an eternity to boot up like my old Philips monitor did. And the picture is so much better. Everything is so sharp, and the color representation is wonderful at every angle, thanks to this being an IPS monitor. This is my first widescreen 21:9 monitor, and the real estate/multitasking is really something else. It’s very immersive, and I love the curved panel. I write music scores for a day job, and I love that I can see huge portions of my scores in such detail, in addition to whatever other windows I need to have open simultaneously. At first, I kind of wished that I would have gone with a 38 inch 4:3 because this one seemed to be not tall enough, but I’m quickly getting over that. The quality is outstanding, and I hope this monitor lasts for many, many years to come. I’m very, very happy with the purchase of this LG Ultrawide at this price point, and I highly recommend it!EDIT: 6 months later – PLUG IT DIRECTLY INTO THE WALL, NOT A POWER STRIP! I had been experiencing the monitor turning itself off while I was in the middle of working several times. After calling LG’s tech support (who were VERY helpful, by the way) I discovered that it was because the monitor was plugged into a power strip, instead of directly into the wall. Apparently this is a power requirement thing. I considered myself educated that day. 6 months later, and it’s still going strong! Highly recommended….

A fantastic monitor for a very reasonable price!

I got this monitor for productivity and video/audio editing, not for gaming, so I can’t comment on its use in that mission. As a productivity monitor it’s absolutely great. I connected it via HDMI because my laptop connects the Thunderbolt/USB-C/DisplayPort to the internal graphic adapter rather than the Nvidia 3070 (I’m working on fixing that). You can download the drivers from the LG website, but the Windows generic PnP driver works. However, if you want on-screen monitor control you’ll need the LG drivers and also the software component for that. I had to get a link from LG support because it didn’t show up in the software downloads for the monitor, but the file is called Win_OSC_7.zip. Not sure if the same one works for all.Setup on the monitor is very easy; you just snap the stand on and you’re done. The monitor setup out of the box worked great, and it autodetects the input source. Color and brightness and contrast were so good I didn’t use OnScreen Control to change them.My goal with the monitor was to support my video/audio work (DaVinci Resolve) and to help with writing documents and blogs. With the LG monitor I can put either two document windows side by side or one document window and a web browser. It’s been a great help in my work.

    Worst Monitor I’ve Owned

I have a nice LG 4k monitor I got from a relative who passed – it is so nice and good I decided to replace my other monitor and went to find the closest LG model I could. This monitor was that and I would not recommend it to anyone. I have 2 major reoccurring problems.1. On average twice a week the screen goes black and unresponsive and I have to pull the power to make it work. No resolution change, no holding the power button, nothing else will make it come back.2. Regularly, atleast once a week the controls become laggy, and not by a few second but by 10 – 20 seconds such that they appear frozen. I turn my monitors off at night and switch between a work laptop and home pc so I use them a few times a day at most which makes the frequency that much more perplexing. The controls are not great to begin with, but I am not sure were seeing much better on any monitors these days, I think I’d be fine if that were my only gripe.I truly regret this purchase and I suspect it will probably get replaced come Black Friday sale and certainly not by an LG.I’m giving it 2 Stars, the picture quality is itself good but the behavior is frustrating enough I’d only suggest someone use this monitor if they got it cheap 2nd hand and couldn’t afford a similar monitor.UPDATE: 2/8/2023 – I’m reducing my review to 1-Star. These problems are consistent and frustrating. When I look back at what I spent on this monitor I feel so defeated and defrauded. I permanently keep the power block next to my keyboard so I can unplug it a dozen times a week to reset it when the screen regularly goes black. I’ve actually updated my PC and its still an issue so it must be the monitor. These days the menu controls are so unresponsive since I have the power block nearby its often faster to unplug it for the night than shut it off, especially since there’s a 20% chance in the morning it won’t turn on right anyways.UPDATE: 10/8/2023 – This monitor is 3 years old and its about to be replaced. At this point everytime my PC would go to screen saver / sleep this monitor needs to be unplugged when i return, then when i plug it back in it doesn’t register and I need to switch to a different input and back with the buttons that are not very good/responsive (given how often I need to use them this has become a major down side). At this point, I wont buy an LG monitor again.

Very light curve, stupidly easy set-up!

The UPS dropped off the monitor as I was on the conference call. I was able to unpack it and hook it up in about 4 minutes or so while on the phone and share slides from it a few minutes later! The USB-C connector that takes video from the laptop AND deliveries power to the laptop in the same time is THE best feature. The monitor itself has no “power brick” (the transformer is built-in) so you have no messy cable clutter on your desk: One power cable in, one USB-C cable out to the laptop. Done! Needles to say I like this thing.

Best deal out there for an IPS + 34″ + Curved

I went through so many types of 34″ ultrawides between VA, IPS, flat and curved. I do like the curved however I never wanted to settle on VA because the viewing angles are really bad and look washed out. So I like IPS flat but I do want some kind of a curve. This is when this model comes in being 34WQ73A-B with with a great deal where it gives you 2K, IPS + slight curve 1800R for a great price. Yes the curve is very slight, but that is ok as long as I have some curve towards the edges because if you ever used a flat ultrawide you will notice the corners and edges have a glare which this mitigates having the slight edge curves.
