    Meh – Not Impressed

I had high hopes for this monitor as an extension monitor for my new MacBook Pro M1, but I am very disappointed in image quality, sharpness, crispness and brightness. I have been using (or trying to) for about 2.5 months now and it just doesn’t get the job done. It’s a night and day difference from the MacBook screen in terms of quality and being crisp. I have tried just about every adjustment on the monitor but cannot get it dialed in to my satisfaction. Refresh rate is pretty low as well. For color, it looks “dingy” – whites are not white, more of a cream color and color is off as well. Tried all the presets and custom settings – I have played around with all settings and even turned brightness to max. In the end, I am giving up and have ordered a BenQ monitor and will try again. If you work on spreadsheets or MS Word, it’ll probably do for you. But as a graphic designer and web designer, this monitor fails completely.

    Great quality large bezel

Really like the monitor quality. The large bezel make it seem a few years old though

    Pretty good

The only things I really dislike about this is that the color for my xbox was all messed up and I had to tinker with it for a while, figuring out how to get it to display without some sort of hue or saturation increase, while also being brighter than the sun. I had to set it to vivid after messing with some settings while in custom, which was kinda odd and unconventional. Then I didn’t realize it didn’t have built in speakers which sucked but despite all that it’s a pretty good monitor.

    Crystal Clear Quality

This is a review for the LG 27UL550-W 27 Inch 4K UHD IPS LED HDR Monitor. As a reasonably new vlogger I wanted to be able to produce 4K video if the need arises, even though almost everything I’ve published so far has been in 1080. To know if I was getting the quality I wanted I obviously need a 4K or UHD monitor, so I found this one and it met the specs, including LED, that I was looking for at a fair price. I’ve had it for about three months and it has met all my expectations. It is so nice to do both video and still image editing on this beautiful and clear screen. I am totally satisfied and would highly recommend this monitor to anyone looking to upgrade to UHD. I’m just a regular photographer/videographer, who has worked as a professional in the past, but now I’m retired and just enjoy the hobby. I’m not affiliated with LG in any way nor have I received any compensation or other encouragement for any review.

    VERY NICE SCREEN!

I am into Nature Photography. Since the screen is a little bigger than my previous one, I can see any soft focus pictures, better. That is great!I don’t do gaming.

Office application maybe okay, anything else…forget about it

Poor and inconsistent refresh rate. For me this caused vertigo and a oscillopsia effect which made the monitor unusable.I lso have another LG 4k monitor ( 27 inch UD 49) which is absolutely amazing, so I figured i would pick up another LG monitor. This UL500 however even despite the problematic refresh rate was just not up to par with their other LG monitors similarly priced.Fit and finish-given that this is a 4k monitor if you are buying this you have an appreciation for detail so having such rough fit and finish is unacceptable. The bezel and stand are unattractive and clearly looks like painted silver.Other LG monitors I have have the very thick solid acetate looking plastic (similar to the plastic on nice sunglasses) the plastic on this monitor is reminiscent of the injection plastic used on cheap toys. The Good (on most LG monitors)The hard key control button on the bottom of monitor is awesome (especially in an age where touchscreen has taken over even when not practical)Bottom line, probably better off spending a little extra on one of the other LG 4k monitors. This one even despite the refresh rate issue does not really live up to LG standards, im not really sure why they would make something like this and deteriorate their brand. Im guessing this monitor is generic and is relabeled and sold under various budget names.I guess their accountants did the work and said at this slightly lower price point lots more people will buy in but this monitor is a disappointment. Spend the extra 40$ and get the nice LG monitor. Im really happy with my LG UD59.

    Great monitor for Surface

I have a multi-monitor setup for my Surface through a Lenovo KVM and another one via a Surface KVM; both support 4K. I configured the ICM in Windows 10 for LG’s color settings and bought a DP cable that supports 4K. The last part is important as not an DP or HDMI cable would do with this monitor. If a flimsy cable is used, the monitor complains and says that the cable doesn’t support the max resolution properly. Listen to that warning and get a proper cable and connector; it matters.I don’t play games on this monitor; just don’t care to. I did watch Netflix and it was awesome. My daily use is for engineering work and it is excellent.

    Good monitor

First 4K monitor I own. Got it for the M1 Mac Mini.Works well picture quality is amazing. Coming from a 2k iMac, it’s a big difference. Not as bright as the iMac was though but I still have the monitor on 3/4 brightness, which is good for me.Takes a bit long to wake from sleep mode, about 5 seconds. But that’s not an issue really. All in all:Love the monitor. The height and swivel adjustments are great. Weight balanced well. And colors are great. I matched it up to the iMac an got as close as possible.

    Wow what an upgrade

I tried the 1080p version of the 27” and it wasn’t bad except when using it for work (sw eng). I needed something where text would be clear (spoiled by MacBook pro’s retina). So I returned for the 4k version. My eyes are much less strained. While not quite retina (by the numbers) .. it’s close, and definitely working for me.

Using with MULTIPLE SOURCES? READ THIS!

I bought 2 of these as additions to my iMac 5K. I also use them for my Windows desktop. I assumed that when I have both sources hooked up to them, that it would be easy to switch back and forth, which is correct. HOWEVER, if one of these sources is asleep, or even turned off, the monitors will stay with the source that was last selected. So if I have them on HDMI 1 for my iMac, and then put both sources to sleep, when I come back and wake up my Windows desktop, it will not automatically detect a signal from the desktop. I still have to manually switch it to HDMI 2. These monitors are not cheap! Even my $100 monitor that I replaced could automatically detect the signal and switch sources. And according to LG customer support, NONE of their monitors do this! I thought LG was one of the leaders, but after this, I wouldn’t buy another one. They should at least have the simple things like this that their competitors do.As for the rest of it, they’re good monitors. But I have a problem with companies that miss the little details that would be important to any buyer.

    A software developer’s dream!

When I first saw this monitor I thought “how stupid is that thing” then I saw someone post their workspace on Reddit with it and I became intrigued when I saw how much value it brought to their IDE/editor experience.I decided to get it because the other option was a vertical monitor for not much less. The desk mount it comes with is amazing. It’s a very nice ergo mount that clamps onto your desk and it’s VERY EASY to adjust. I have my monitors connected to both my gaming PC and my work laptop which is docked. It’s amazing being able to split this screen into two separate screens using the PBP feature (picture by picture) where it will take the input from one computer and display it on the top or bottom half and input from another to place it in the other half. This allows me to listen/watch music/videos/streams etc while I work from home all day without changing inputs. Depending on my day it’s full screen or split screen and having the option is amazing.I would not recommend this for gaming because of the low refresh rate but for videos/code/productivity tools etc it’s amazing.I saw other comments mention issues with macOS scaling and all that but I have had no issues with this. I think it works wonderfully with both my gaming PC and my work Macbook Pro. It’s really a great display for a variety of things. I have to imagine this aspect ratio/design will become very popular over time for Twitch streamers and the like because it will essentially allow them to multitask much easier without having 3+ monitors. It’s a multitasker’s dream. No regrets, no real gripes. My one and only true issue is that while you can control the tension of the up/down motion of the stand you cannot control the tension of the swing left/right motion. So if your desk has any kind of wobble and you play a game that causes you to give your desk a bit of a shake like an FPS with fast mouse movements etc then the monitor might start slowly swinging left or right. I ultimately used hot glue and a small piece of plastic to keep the two monitors held together to prevent the movement but I wish LG would just add the ability to control the tension of the swinging motion (maybe it’s there and I’m oblivious but I didn’t see it in the manual or on the stand). Even so, it’s a very small issue that most people probably won’t notice.I love this monitor and I am seriously considering a second one so I can have one dedicated to my work laptop and one dedicated to my personal PC.If you’re a developer or someone who multitasks a lot – get this monitor! Please don’t judge my cable management in my pic. When I took the pic my new workspace was still a work in progress.

Very good image for the price. No picture, gaming or video issues seen since setting up 5 days ago.

(Updated) For many years, I used a mismatched dual monitor set up that consisted of a 21” Acer and 22” Samsung models from around 2015. Even though this was adequate for a lot of basic things, it always drove me a little nuts they were of different sizes. Also the color calibrating on both models was a pain that never quite worked and the same videos/images were noticeably different hues depending on which monitor they were displayed on. Basically, it was time to get a dual monitor replacement set of the same brand and model.I also wanted something that was 4k capable, in the 25″ to 29″ size range, and of course something that would not break my budget. After spending a few months reading reviews of various models, I found that the LG 27UL500-W 27-Inch best matched my wants and needs. On Prime Day, Amazon discounted the price further, so I placed an order for a set ($279 ea).Setup: Very easy. To conserve desk space, I purchased a WALI Dual LCD Monitor Fully Adjustable Desk Mount Stand that had two arms. I had no issues attaching the monitors to the desk mount and running cables from the monitor to PC/outlets.Fit and Finish: I have not seen any bezel issues where they were pealing apart. They are not the thinnest and are about .25” around the top/sides. The bottom is wider. Since I use a desk mount stand, I have no comment about the stands that came with the monitors (they are still bagged). I like that LG put a toggle for the screen controls instead of a row of buttons.Picture: The picture quality so far is very good. I have not seen the light bleed a lot of commentators have noted.Ports: The LG 27UL500-W 27-inch has 1 display port (v1.2) and 2 HDMI ports (v2.0). No DVI or RGB15 ports. I assumed I that I could use DVI  HDMI/DP or RGB  HDMI/DP adapters. Neither RGB (which I expected) nor DVI adapters (which I did NOT expect) work with these monitors. So those that have older PCs/Laptops/KVM switches may be out of luck if the equipment does not support a DisplayPort or HDMI video connector (on my initial review, I deducted a star for this). So, my 4-port RGB KVM switch will not work (this was expected, and I am had my eye on a replacement 4-port HDMI KVM switch that supports dual monitor). For the PCs, it’s a matter of finding cheap replacement video cards that are PCIe x16 with 2x DisplayPort or 2x HDMI ports (but cheap ones do not seem common) and enough VRAM to drive this monitor (from what I read 1 GB should be more than adequate for 1080p since I do not plan to use these PCs for high end gaming). I did find that a passive HDMI to DisplayPort works so integrating a new HDMI KVM switch should not be an issue.Overall, I have been pleased with my LG 27UL500-W 27-Inch purchases. I also have a plan to work out my KVM/Cable/Monitors. If all goes well, I will likely raise my rating from 4 to 5 stars.Update 05/05/2020:I am raising my rating by a star – No image, video or audio channel issues have occurred with either monitor since I purchased them July 2019.These monitors are in near daily use, are powered on/off often and subject to resolution changes a few times a month. The audio channel is constantly used through one of the monitors for steaming video from a ROKU that is connected to one of the monitors.I fully integrated these two monitors to use with a 4 dual port HDMI KVM switch. My only disappointment was that an old ROKU SE did not work with the monitors via the HDMI port. This was most likely due to the ROKU SE inability to support 4K. Using a ChromeCast and a ROKU streaming stick had no issues with either LG monitors).

    Huge Upgrade to my Editing

I bought this monitor to replace an older HP IPS model that I never really could get dialed in on the color. I edit on a MacBook Pro and the colors between the MacBook and the old monitor were always pretty far off. Had lots of problems with reds on the old monitor being over saturated. I saw the reviews on this and thought it would be worth a try. So far, I’m loving it. The colors right out of the box are much closer to my Mac and the clarity is amazing. The old monitor was 1920 x 1440. I’m running this monitor in 3840 x 2160/60Hz and for photoshop and Lightroom, it’s just flat out awesome right out of the box. Skin tones are much more representative of actual tones.PROS: Clear Picture, Good Color, Good Brightness.CONS: I don’t like the menu system, the joystick controller, and the “beeps” are super annoying. The sounds the monitor makes are very much like an old school Colleco video game. When it powers down it’s painful.** UPDATE ** NOVEMBER 8, 2023 – After using this quite heavily for a while, and calibrating it with a Spyder, I’ve noted that things have changed a bit. No longer matching my Macbook display a much as I’d like. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to dial in the hues for skin tone to look good across a variety of apple devices, and I was struggling. Last week grabbed an Apple Studio Display and that was the final nail in the coffin for this display. I think as a stand alone display, for gaming or other work, this is a great display. The resolution is nice and it looks pretty good. But when you’re doing photo/video work, and you need consistency across your displays, this wasn’t what I needed (and I realize that most people won’t use it for professional photo editing, so keep that in mind as well). Still a worthy buy at the price. OH!!! And I’m not sure if there was an update to the firmware or what, but the annoying beeps are gone. It now makes a much nicer sound when turning off and on. Good job LG!!!

Not as easy as plug it in and bask in its full glory but very satisfying anyway.

I didn’t rate this for gaming because I don’t have a video card to drive a 4K monitor at a good speed yet, but for everything else, it looks brilliant for the money.I’m a working stiff these days, so I don’t have the free time I’d like to have to play around and get everything set up just so, and I found that there are little hurdles and speed bumps along the way with these newer displays if you want to actually USE all of the fancy marketing buzzwords like HDR or Freesync or G-Sync or high frame rates or FALD (full array local dimming). I haven’t gotten those all figured out just yet and the documentation and user interface aren’t quite intuitive if you’ve never had to set those up and get them actually enabled and working correctly in real life before. They’re not just “plug it in and bask in the full glory” easy yet– you have to make sure you have the right combinations of hardware, cables, drivers, and settings between all the devices and peripherals to take full advantage of those newer features. But 4K crystal clear beautiful brilliance does pretty much work right out of the box, and at this price, even just that is worth having. It takes very little adjusting to get very realistic colors compared to my old calibrated Dell setup. I didn’t even have to delve into the color calibration tool in Windows to get it fairly close to what I prefer in my lighting environment and get my pictures to look almost exactly like they looked in real life when I originally took the pictures. I don’t even feel bad quite yet about not pulling out a hardware calibration tool.So while I haven’t put together all of those pieces in a way that lets me enjoy all the features and functionality of this monitor yet, I am already satisfied with my purchase even if I never take the time to make it all work at peak performance. This is a pretty darn good buy.I’ve even considered picking up another one or two to replace my old 1080P monitor and at least one of my work monitors at the office because of the price to performance ratio. The only reason I haven’t is because I may get my work to buy one or two for me for that, and at home I’m planning to buy one of the top of the line 4K G-Sync quantum dot monitors as my main/gaming monitor once I’ve upgraded my rig to push 4K really well, and it seems silly to me to buy a perfectly good monitor to only use for a few months. These are too good to waste and I don’t have room on my desk for a triple monitor setup, unfortunately, or it’d be a no-brainer.

LG 27UK580-B Ergo – QC lacking, but $299 can’t be beat if you get a good display, 2 out of 3 great

LG 27UK580-B Ergo – QC lacking, but $299 can’t be beat if you get a good display. Purchased three of them, and two were decently bright for the price – and I really enjoyed the ERGO mounts that they came with. These mounts are extremely high quality, easy to install (though the mounting the monitor part would be easier with a second pair of hands). The third monitor I ended up returning because you could see a noticeable difference between the other two, and this third one. The colors were no where near as vibrant, and the backlight was also dimmer even when factory resetting all three monitors and switching between ports or cables between them – the results were clearly the same (indicating the backlight was likely the issue). For office work, and light gaming – I think you could honestly get away with using these and not feel like you are missing too much. Unless you want to spend over $1,500 on your display, then obviously there are brighter and more vibrant displays. But if you want to quickly up your multi-monitor setup, getting three or even four of these on an L-shaped large desk would definitely be recommended. Just make sure if you purchase only one monitor, you have a certain minimum standard that you expect from them because you might get a dud, and you may not ever know what the display should have looked like in order to properly judge it.I also tried the LG 32UK580-B 32, and the two displays that were good were brighter than the one LG 32UK580-B 32 that I tested. I am not sure if all LG 32UK580-B 32’s have lower quality backlights, or if it’s just the one I got – but that should be worth mentioning.

    Great for iMac and PS4

I wanted a 4K display that I could use as a 2nd display for my 27″ 5K iMac and occasionally for PS4 gaming. This thing is great for it! I would have prefered 5K to match the iMac’s resolution, but really didn’t want to shell out the cash for that expensive of a monitor. For the PS4 or PS4 Pro:This is amazing. I have both the original PS4 and a newer PS4 Pro and they both look amazing on this display. The Pro obviously looks a little bit sharper with it’s 4K capabilities, but the older 1080p PS4 also looks great. With it’s IPS panel and HDR the colors are phenomenal. For the iMac 2nd Display:My 2017 iMac has an amazing 5K display built into it, so in a side-by-side comparison, I immediately notice a huge difference. This LG just doesn’t look nearly as good. BUT, it’s also much much MUCH less expensive (and a lower resolution). All of that being said, it’s still a 5-Star 2nd display in my opinion because you get what you pay for and I think for the money, I’ve gotten what I expected out of it. Without paying 5K prices, this is as good as it gets, and it looks a hell of a lot better than 1080 displays I’ve hooked up.The stand is very sturdy, and I like that it has a height adjustment so that I can line it up perfectly with my iMac’s screen height. The fact that it doesn’t turn left and right might be a deal breaker for some, but it doesn’t matter to me personally. One other thing to mention is the little single “joystick” on the bottom that you use for power, changing inputs, changing settings, etc. I saw some other reviews stating that they didn’t like it. I personally don’t mind it to be honest. The menu is pretty easy to navigate. It can also be nicer than having a row of buttons along the bottom because you don’t have to look for the correct button, you just press the 1 button available and navigate around the on-screen menu. I just wanted to bring that up because I was nervous that it might be annoying after reading reviews, but I personally don’t mind it at all.

    OUTSTANDING!!!

U need to make sure to put the picture mode on HDR effect, it’s outstanding! The pictures say it all. The need for speed photo is 100% true to the image, I will say the Hitman one did brighten the blacks, they’re darker IRL, but man those colors POP. I can’t recommend this monitor enough if u don’t have 2 grand to drop on a 4k oled. Or if u wanted higher fps, but at 4k it’s hard even hitting 120 on a 4080.I cannot recommend this monitor more!!!

This LG monitor is excellent for text, but the images and movies on the screen are somewhat dull.

I like the text on this LG computer monitor but the images and movies on the screen are somewhat dull. I think this is a result of the anti glare coating screen. This LG monitor would be excellent for a business office where there is much light, in which text and spreadsheets are on the screen, but in a home in which exposure to light can be reduced, the anti glare coating diminishes the sharpness of images and movies, reducing overall image quality. I suggest that LG manufacture two versions of this monitor, one with the anti glare coating and one without the anti glare coating and let the consumer choose which version of the monitor they want to buy.

    Meh

It’s okay, kinda bad in my opinion. I got this like 2-3 years ago for about 380$ and it isnt worth that imo. The HDR is very lackluster, the brightness or nits is simply too low. The color display is also mediocre and at times it can be hard tracking things in video games, what’s good is that theres tons of customizable options. There are better monitors for cheaper but it gets the job done, if I were anyone else I’d simply pass on this monitor

    Impressed!

I had tried a few monitors for my M1 Mac Mini, and each has had its own issues, like flickering (AOC), washed out picture (Samsung), and lower resolution (Viotek Ultrawide), and I settled on this monitor. The picture and vividness blow me away. Plays nice with an M1 Mac and looks great at 1440P scaling. I highly recommend it to any M1 user who doesn’t want to break the bank on a 4k screen. The only knock I can give it is when trying to use HDR, the screen looks terrible and washed out. I have tried different cables, but ultimately it’s either the monitor/MacOS/combination of both.

    A great and affordable 4k HDR(ish) monitor.

This LG monitor is, in one word, great. Out of the box, it came with a color calibration sheet, and told me about gamma, delta E (<5) , and white balance (3500K). Once activated on the OSD, Freesync was immediately dected by my Radeon Software, which was nice. The monitor looks great, with nice brightness (more on that later) and clarity. It came with both a Displayport 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 cable, as well as a small external power brick. The stand is good, and has some weight to it, however I did not use it, and instead took advantage of the 100mm VESA mounts.Back to the display. I see this monitor as "HDR 10" compatible, and windows 10 detects this as an HDR monitor, but please note, it only has a peak brightness on about 350 nits, making it more HDRish. The bezel sizes are alright, but nothing special. I personally would not use this monitor for Competitive gaming, as the response time is not great and it is only 60hz, however it does have Freesync, so more cinematic games look great. Video consumption and production on this thing is nice as well, and I would definitely recommend this monitor. For the last image of both monitors, the one on the right is the LG 4K monitor, which has an IPS panel. The left one is an older Samsung VA panel, at 1440p.

Incredible deal for this picture quality

I use this for a second, vertical monitor for web browsing or long text documents, so I’m not sure how well it would do in gaming or high-refresh situations, but for my purposes this monitor absolutely excels. The built-in mounting arm is really impressive, too. I was expecting it might be a little underwhelming vs. a stand-alone arm, but LG did not disappoint.

Good BUDGET 4k monitor for Photo & Video Editing

I mainly bought this to use for photo editing since I shoot for real estate homes, and I’d have to say this does an amazing job.PRO:- Clear, vibrant colors that are true to what you see and customer will see in their photos.-Bright(some review said this was dim even at full brightness, but I think its perfect for me)-Good for light gaming.-its been a couple of days now and no signs of dead pixel or light bleeding.-budget 4k monitor 60hzCONS:-No speakers ( I have a sound system.)-The stand wobbles easily.-only tilts, no swivel or height adjustments.- one little knob on the bottom to control monitor menu, its ok, not the best. simple though.Overall I enjoy this monitor, since I mainly got it for photo editing. Just needed a monitor to correctly display my photos. Can’t complain much for this budget 4k monitor.———————————————————————-Update June 2023lowered my rating.Ended up ordering a second monitor and even after exchanging it again for another one, the colors just does not match up. After calibrating it with a spyderx pro, they matched up reaalllly close but you can still tell one is slightly warmer than the other. For most people its probably fine but for a photographer it bothers the heck out of you when editing.I still think its a good BUDGET 4k monitor for editing. But if you can save up for a good monitor, I definitely recommend that.

Good Monitors, Not for PC Gamers

I bought this for gaming after watching multiple review on YouTube and reading countless reviews. The monitors are great, no doubt but they were not really designed with the intention of gamers in mind. The picture quality was good for its price but the contrast ratio was really poor. I thought with a 27in screen, 1000:1 contrast ratio wouldn’t be that bad. I was wrong!! In some dark scenes some parts if the screen was grey inside of the showing the blacks. Maybe I’m being too picky but if I’m buying something at this price I expect to do as its advertised.Besides the contrast the Hdr was good, not the best but good. Like I said it was designed for gamers, although I has gaming specs. Its more for designers and people who do photoediting etc. It was a good monitor but I wouldn’t really get it for gaming unless you don’t care about framerate and other gaming specs*its good for Xbox one/ps4, but not the next gens

    It’s a 4k monitor.

I purchased this monitor for my dad for his birthday. He likes to make videos and was constantly complaining about how he had all this equipment that recorded in 4k but didn’t have the screen to see it. Before giving it to him, I had to make sure it worked properly and played around with it a bit.I have a light sensitivity issue, and turning the monitor on after taking it out of the box was like looking at the sun. I really wish default brightness was something more reasonable on monitors. I dialed the brightness down to 15, which was much better for me. I started up a couple of games that had HDR support, and they looked pretty good, but HDR is about brightness and in some instances, it just made stuff to bright for me without my glasses. There were no dead pixels, and the picture was nice and sharp. All the connections worked without issue. I was almost tempted to keep the screen for myself, but it doesn’t do 144hz.I set the monitor up for my dad, so when he got home from work, he would be surprised, but he caught me on his Ring camera bringing it in, so there went the surprise. My brightness setting of 15 was to low for my dad, and he had to up it. Other than that he apparently loves this screen as my poor mother called to complain that she has been forced to watch all of his videos he has made again but in 4k because they are better in 4k. LOL. Sorry, mom.

    Excellent 4K Monitor

I’ve had this monitor for several months now and love it. It replaced an old 28 inch 1080p that became unusable for me for viewing text. I use it mainly for work all day, which consists of reading documents, web pages and working with web applications. I also use it to view and edit photos fairly often. The picture is excellent and text is sharp at native resolution with Windows set to 175%. There are no dead pixels or color/light bleed around the edges. It’s been the perfect step up solution to be productive all day and have an excellent display for pictures and video as well.My only gripe is that it does not have auto-detect for input so I have to manually change inputs every time I switch between my work and home laptops which is fairly often. This combined with a joystick control that has to be pressed up from the bottom to start is a bit of a pain. Also, I did mount it to an adjustable stand right away as I need it to sit low on my desk and most monitors that have an adjustable stand don’t go low enough.

    So disappointed with stand

The picture quality, size, are good. The stand that it comes with the monitor is trash. I cannot tell you how many times, I used both hands to bring the screen closer or even to just tilt and the screen just fell off the stand. And luckily, I caught it each time before it slammed face front. And no, there are no other screws. I checked the manual, its ready-made installation is all it is. Aside from screwing on the base of the stand to the stem, there is nothing that reinforces the section that holds the screen. I will be returning. So disappointed. Also, these do not have internal speakers.

The display is so clear and crisp!

We have 2 LG large screen TV’s (1 LED and 1 OLED) and a LG bluray player. But this is our 1st LG monitor. We are not disappointed! Beautiful large screen monitor.Due to the pandemic we’ve had to work from home and what happens the 2nd week of WFH, our old monitor completely dies… Had to make an emergency order for a new monitor to keep working. The original order, for the model that was $50 less, got lost in shipping, totally understand and completely grateful to those who went to work during the height of the pandemic in the NE. Amazon provided a refund and we ordered this model instead since the other model was sold out… This replacement was $50 more but now that we’ve had it for a few months it is well worth it!!! Being able to lift it up and down depending on the height of the person using the computer was 100% worth the increase in price. The display is so clear and crisp. We have not used it to play games yet but playing a 4k movie on this monitor is amazing! The details are so sharp and crisp. The colors are so vibrant that we now feel like we are seeing in SD in RL LOLBeing able to switch between 3 devices (2 work laptops and a personal PC tower) is so useful and helpful. We are able to keep the work laptops connected at all time without having to constantly plug/unplug and potentially damaging ports and cables. Also, we do not have eye fatigue as we used to have with other monitors… That is an added perk!Definitely worth the investment.

    Outstanding for business use

I needed to replace my 11-year old LG 20-inch work monitor, which died a very sudden but painless death – one loudish click and adios. I wanted to go with a larger monitor to make manipulation of multiple documents easier, but needed one with exceptional clarity because of my poor eyesight. This is also why I picked 27-inch instead of 32-inch. I tried a 1080p HD 27-inch monitor, but text even at 1980 x 1080 resolution was still blurry to me. My relatively new Dell laptop is able to go to 3840 x 2160 resolution on the LG monitor and text at that resolution is knife sharp even when I scale documents up or down. If you’re going to connect an older computer, make sure its actually able to take advantage of 4K. The joy stick on the bottom of the monitor for the on-screen monitor controls is funky, but works OK once you get the hang of it. A 100 x 100 VESA wall mount plate is an exact fit, but don’t try to use a larger multi-size VESA plate – it will block the monitor’s HDMI and DisplayPort connections. The fixed height stand that came with the monitor works just fine – nice and sturdy – I can’t justify the extra $80+ for the adjustable stand. If you can’t use a wall mount, a couple of old text books work great for height adjustment. Don’t know how this monitor will do for action gaming, but my 2005 vintage Hoyle Card Game images look better than ever. I noted that most of the 1-star ratings for this monitor were regarding LG’s customer service, so I opted for the 4-year Square Trade warranty just in case.

    Not very bright

Hard to beat the price on this, but sitting next to my LG UltraFine, this model is noticeably dimmer. Subtle colors (e.g., light grays) don’t show up quite as well. I am a designer and use my UltraFine for my design work. This model will work fine if you just need another monitor to check email, surf the web, etc., but I would never consider it as a primary monitor for my line of work.

Can’t look at my old monitor the same anymore…

After years of getting just average laptops, I finally splurged on a powerful Dell Inspirion. I like having a monitor connected to my laptop when I’m working, and with a 3840 x 2160 resolution, my old monitor wasn’t going to cut it. After much research I settled on this one. Two months later, I’m very impressed with my choice. For someone like me who has always purchased cheap 20 inch or so monitors, this thing is BIG. As you can see by the photo, it dwarfs my 15.6 laptop. Know what you’re getting if you have a small office space. The visuals are gorgeous – extremely crisp. I never realized how blurry my old monitor was until I started using this. As soon as I plugged in my HDMI cord, it fired right up and after a couple of minutes of adjusting the brightness and contrast, I was in business. The stand is sturdier then it looks, and the monitor itself has 2 x HDMI ports and a DisplayPort – more then enough for meAfter two months of regular use, I’m very happy with this monitor. It’s my first LG purchase, but if this keeps up it may be my new go-to brand.

    Value 4k monitor buy it

Kind of crazy that value and 4k monitor are in the same subject line but for $300 it’s kind of nuts that you can get this kind of quality out of a panel. I’m not sure how long it will last but it blew me away when I first turned it on and played a few video games on it. playing video games turn the sharpness all the way up.I’ve had quite a few monitors most of them IPS and none of them quite pop with color the way this does. There’s a bit of glow and bleed but there is an every IPS panel so far it’s actually less than most I have had. I’m really impressed with the picture quality it actually looks better than my 4K TV. I also had to reduce the brightness from 60 or 70% down to about 30. I don’t know about the HDR part of it I did enable HDR and it does look a bit better but I’m not sure if it’s true HDR but at this price it really didn’t matter to me. I have a TN on 144 Hertz g-sync monitor that’s 27 in and I have this right next to it and you can totally tell the difference in color. I wouldn’t recommend this monitor for shooters but for pretty much any other scenery based game it’s perfect.I have been running in g-sync compatibility mode as well on the monitor and have not noticed any stuttering or glitches or artifacting in the six or seven games I tested with a GTX 1080 TI on display port.TL DR great monitor for the money I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.Fyi the monitor ul500 to the highest level monitor on Amazon as of this review are the same panel, I am pretty sure just differences in features. At most the panels are probably binned for the higher priced products similar to how manufacturers like Intel and AMD sell CPUs.

    Great Budget 4K monitor

Can not expect this to be a great gaming monitor at 60fps.Can not expect this to be a bright monitor at the price point.HDR is decent for the price Point.I do like the matte screen, helps reduce glare verses my previous monitors.Annoying that I bought 3 of these and 1 had a stand that was just a bit taller than the other 2 so they did not sit perfect next to each other. The bezel is also half the size of my previous monitors, but still a tad thicker than I was expecting.FYI, Windows HDR support is lacking where you have to turn it on and off as you need it.Note I am still diagnosing the root cause as I can not move the issue from 1 monitor to another, so may end up being the 1 monitor or video card and not the cable. My current diagnosis:Annoying that it keeps warning to use only the supplied cables, which can not support HDR and 10bit or just 10bit without an occasional blink (3-4 times a day). Had to lower to 8bit (Done in the nVidia Control Panel). Also note I am using a single GTX1070 to drive all 3 monitors.Update: Been a couple of weeks on the new cables, had not flickered once. All 3 monitors set to 10bit.

    Great monitor, but came damaged

Good color and brightness. Love the 4k resolution. High quality build. Performs well enough for my photo/video editing and media creation needs. VESA mountable. I like it so far. However, there is some damage behind the screen. It’s like a scratch or something inside. The surface is smooth when I rub my finger over it. I tried using all sorts of cleaners, but the damage is really within the screen/glass or whatever. It’s right in the center of the screen too. Very annoying. I noticed it from Day 1 but I really needed the extra monitor and I thought initially that I could clean it off or fix it somehow. That unfortunately is not the case…I have a few days left to return it and I’m debating whether I should, but the lost productivity as well as the hassle of returning it might not be worth all the effort – not to mention having to find a replacement. I really wish this had come without this defect/damage, otherwise I would have given this monitor 5 stars.

    STUNNING

This is a review of the LG 27UL500-W. Terrific monitor – the greatest. I do not use this for gaming, just browsing, coding, and occasional video. Two tips that others might find helpful:My old 24 inch monitor hogged probably a third of my work surface and I was concerned the 27 inch would take up half. Bought a desk mount gas spring monitor arm for about $24 that completely solved the problem. Mounts to the side and with a touch of my finger I can put the monitor where I want it above my totally clear and clean work surface. This monitor DOES have a VESA mount. I did not bother with the stand that comes with the monitor. My computer is older and does not have 4k output. Looked into getting a 4k graphics card but they all consumed about 300 watts which exceeded the rating of my desktop not to mention a $100 or much more. I found an economical solution using a 4k video graphics adapter for about $50 that totally solved the problem. Plugs into a USB port and puts out true 4k into an HDMI adapter. This was a superb solution for my needs but I cannot comment on gaming.Best monitor I have ever had and I highly recommend it. Wish there were 10 stars.

NO AUDIO + SPEEDS VIDEOS :/

I beleive I received a defective monitor. This monitor was recommended by a techy website for photo editing and when it arrived everything seemed fine. Setting up for my PC laptip and M2 MacBook Pro was very easy and begain working almost immedietly. HOWEVER… there was no sound at all via HDMI 1 or 2 ports. I thought it was a user error on my end – setting mistake but amazon customer support said it was indeed defective. Not only that, but when testing the audio, any video I would play would be sped up! Youtube video or IG video via web browser. I hope others had better luck with it that I did because it did not work for me at all 🙁

    Perfect for Mac mini

After looking at monitors for my Mac mini until my eyes bled, I decided to give this one a try and it does not disappoint. Text is super clear, pictures and video look excellent and there have been no issues so far with it not waking out of sleep mode or flickering, which have plagued some monitors used with mini’s (I am using HDMI to HDMI).It doesn’t have any way to adjust brightness/color/etc. on the monitor itself so you would need to get the software from LG’s website but I haven’t found a need to do so as it was perfect right out of the box.Overall It’s a solid 5 stars from me and if I have any issues down the road I will be sure to update.

    I fell for the price

I was watching the price and wanted a 3rd 27UL600 for my setup. I saw this at a good price and jumped. Oops. I should have read closer. I’m having trouble matching the colors of my two 27UL600’s. The display is a more dull yellow color and has (what are to me) those big ol’ bezels. Why does any monitor have bezels like this these days? I don’t like the big bottom one on the 27UL600, but 4 fatties stinks. I’m so upset I bought the wrong monitor! I may end up returning it and paying the difference to get My matching trio – and better color.

Jack of All Trade, Master of None

Overall I enjoy this monitor and am happy with my purchase. I use this monitor for three main purposes, my Xbox One S gaming monitor, my vertically oriented monitor for productivity purposes, and since my office is also in my bedroom, as a movie screen at night. This monitor is serviceable for all three tasks, however it is not exceptional at any of them. The HDR effect is underwhelming, even with extensive calibration. When displaying HDR sources, the screen appears to have a faint white film over the image. In my opinion, the color back is actually deeper when not in HDR mode. As others have mentioned I think this is due to peak brightness being low cause it’s a a computer monitor, not a television. However, it works as an almost too small television stand in from about 15 feet away.I have my XBOX One S plugged in via HDMI, and the display works in 4k, and switches between HDR and non-HDR sources correctly (with a short moment of blackout, which is standard in my experiences). When I compare the HDR calibration screens on my XBOX between this an and my low to mid-range 4k HDR TV, the TV has a much more dramatic HDR effect. Technically this monitor supports HDR, but it’s an underwhelming effect, if you can notice it at all. However, I’ve had issues with HDR when using my computer that had a noticeable effect, but not in a good way. I have my 2020 MBP plugged in via display port and I don’t have HDR enabled on my MAC. But the monitor has a tendency to treat the signal like an HDR input, resulting in a hideously over-saturated image. In order to resolve it, I have to toggle the HDR setting in my OS on and off several times and then seemingly at random the monitor figures it out. Slightly annoying, but manageable, and all firmware and drivers are updated.Overall, I’m not dissatisfied with this monitor, but I’m not blown away either. I still give it 4 stars because of the features it offers with consideration for the price point. But gamers looking for a monitor at this price range should considering sacrificing 4k and HDR for a monitor with a higher frame rate. I don’t think the display is accurate enough to be used for intense graphic design, especially if you’re wanting to work with HDR format videos. You’re not going to be blowing away by the deep black colors or the details within the brightness that HDR is supposed to bring. But if you want a versatile display that can do all of those tasks at a serviceable level, this monitor could be for you.

Nice looking, and IPS display for color fidelity

Chose this monitor for both its slim looks and for the fact that it has an IPS display at 4K. The color fidelity and decent brightness fit well with the purpose for which this monitor will be most used: general computing and, especially photo editing.Display controls are easy to use, although I have to admit that I am not a real fan of the single-button, joystick-like approach to built-in functions. Especially with the button mounted under the bottom front edge of the screen, at center, where it’s hard to even notice that it’s there. I expect it’ll be second nature after a while.Photo editing is easier due to the size of the monitor, its resolution, and the 98% of sRGB gamut of the IPS display. Definitely an improvement over many of the older, and even some of the current, display technologies. As for gaming, this is NOT the sort of monitor that serious gamers are likely to want. Although the specs aren’t terrible, the fact that the refresh rate is limited to only 60Hz means they’re unlikely to be satisfied with its performance which resulted in lower rating for that purpose. That said, you CAN game on it perfectly well, and save quite a bit of money compared to “gaming monitors” of this size, as long as you’re willing to live with the trade-off regarding refresh rates. Casual gamers are likely to appreciate the 4K resolution over 1080p HD, multiple built-in settings aimed at gaming, and support for FreeSync.Overall, I found the monitor to be easy to setup and use. It includes two HDMI ports, 1 Display Port and a headphone out jack. The white/silver color scheme is a nice change from the typical black, and coordinates nicely with those who might be building a new PC in a white color scheme.

Well worth it for photo editing. Not good for gaming.

I bought this after reading a stellar review from a photographer, and it does not disappoint. The clarity and accuracy of the colors is absolutely amazing. Granted I’m only starting out and have not used many different monitors specifically for photo editing and design work, but for me it more than fits the bill. The design is nice, though the curved base of the stand is a little awkward, but still sturdy. Love that its adjustable. The only downside is that it only runs in 30hz or 60hz and I’m having issues with gaming on it. I didn’t buy it for that, so it’s not a huge deal as I run dual monitors and the other monitor *is* for gaming, but just thought i’d mention it in case anyone was thinking of using it for gaming. (It also may just be an issue of getting the settings adjusted better)

This monitor is pretty sweet. I think would be better for apple users that dont game hard. Good for RTS stuff and basic uses. The font is small for 4k on a 27 inch monitor and you have to scale up to 150%. I am let down that my gpu (rtx 3070) couldnt keep up with 4k 60 fps, drops below, so I dropped the resolution down to 1440p. Runs well. I think would be better for apple users that dont game hard. Good for RTS stuff and basic uses like typing documents or watching videos. Really nice for watching movies. The font is small for 4k on a 27 inch monitor and you have to scale up to 150%.

    Overly bright.

First, it’s too bright. It makes my eyes hurt after looking at it for just ten or twenty minutes by default. After lowering the color saturation, brightness, and spending ages on its options, now they only hurt after an hour or so, compared to my old Acer that I can work on all day long without clear eye strain (though do need to refocus every so often on objects further away/out the window still). So if you want a monitor that brightly displays something clearly to people from across a room, standing out in a brightly lit enviornment, with rich colors… it’s great. If you want to read normal text on it, use most applications, browse the web, or play many games… not so great.Next, it wont get dark enough. In games, rather than blacks or darks, you just get this sorta darkish grey, but with a clear bit of glare and glow still behind it. Even with a truly “black” image fullscreen or loading screens its just a dark grey with some visible back light bleeding in some areas, but the backlight bleeding near the edges aside that seems to be pretty varied item to item, the darkness of the screen itself is just terrible for many things. If you bother buying 4k, you probalby do image or video or other media work, and this inability to convey black is a serious problem for that. If you do gaming, it’s varied but for ones like Dark souls with lots of dark areas, I constantly just feel like I’m looking at a grey monitor, rather than black areas, not to mention that being 4k with 60hz refresh rate makes it frankly not a good gaming monitor for most types of games (civilization or such are ok, but almost any real time action/fighting/exploring type will probably be better off with a lower resolution but higher refresh rate, and they are cheaper on the graphics card too not rendering in 4k, something that’s barely noticeable honestly up from the next resolution down).Next monitor I buy is definitely going to be a 1440 at 120hz+. Besides being cheaper, the visual clarity on anything under like 32+ inches at most seating distances is similar on pixels/sharpness, but the refresh rate will be so nice for when I am gaming or doing some specific types of work. Especially something with 1ms refresh times, there can be some visible smearing behind certain color changes on this one that I notice when doing 3d modeling with assets that still have default non set colors (aka lots of bright/saturated variety, with dark/grey backgrounds, move them around and you notice especially on green/pinks to grey there is a bit of left over color for a visible duration.

    Great Value

It’s nice to get UHD affordably. The 500 model differs from the 550 only in that the stand is more limited. No problem if you use VESA plus you save a few bucks.I’m a music-centric content creator who is getting back into gaming. My RTX 2060 locks in with freesync at 60fps. Obviously that’s all you get with this monitor. Turn it off for higher FPS but more blur.Immediately impressed with the sharpness at about 21” viewing distance where 27” UHD is effectively retina.Expect finessing with Windows 10. I scaled to 200% and downloaded the driver from LG’s site and everything seems as good as my old Dell U2415 except sharper, brighter and better contrast ratio. Haven’t done a full calibration because I don’t have the hardware yet. EDIT: Got the XRite iDisplay Pro Plus and it’s worth it. Monitor looks great. Also I’m not using HDR because it wasn’t immediately clear how to best use it. If you enable HDR in Windows, the monitor recognizes it but it doesn’t seem like the best default mode. Like I said, best result is with the LG icc included with the driver.Obviously this isn’t a 144Hz reference color grading monster. However, I will tell you that my eyes no longer get all blurry and tired after a long day of moving GUI sliders. I find the colors perfectly acceptable.I put 5 stars because it deserves more than 4. Like I said, scale your expectations when comparing it to a $1500 display. One reviewer in particular put me off from this monitor initially. He was comparing it to the previous years 27UK. Ignore that. If you desire crisp resolution and think 24” is too small, do yourself a solid and buy this.

Beautiful picture, very happy thus far.

-EDIT- About 6 months in, and this is still a fabulous monitor, I couldn’t be happier. It does everything well that I wanted it to do, and then some. Highly recommended.I like to read ebooks on my PC, so there are a few things that are important to me. 1) Picture quality. This monitor has a GREAT picture. 2) The monitor actually works. I had to send an AOC monitor back for refund prior to this one due to a permanent red line down the middle of the screen. So far so good with this one. 3) A “reader mode” to reduce blue light. Check. 4) High resolution. Check. 5) IPS display. Check. 6) I read comics too, so I need the monitor to rotate to “portrait” configuration. Check. 6) Height adjustable so I can put it on my monitor stand, and stand up when I want to. Check. All in all I’m very happy so far, assuming it doesn’t fail like the AOC I just sent back. One odd design decision, in my opinion, is the base. It’s a really wide arc of plastic, almost as wide as the monitor itself. It’s not a problem, so I’m not taking a star off, but I would have preferred a more utilitarian, traditional base. The base actually sticks off the edge of my monitor stand a little. One added bonus is that you can turn off the stupid power LED on this one! Hurray! Man I got tired of my old monitor blinking at me all night. The OSD is nice, and the multiple “split screen” modes are something I’ve wanted for a long time.Oddly, the audio actually sounds better than the integrated sound from my motherboard. It’s more clear, louder, etc.Overall, A+ so far. I really can’t say enough about the picture quality. Fan-tastic.

    Honest gamer review

I’ll cut to the chase with this review. If you’re a gamer, can run 4k at 60FPS, don’t want to spend a fortune, this is the panel for you. You’re not finding better for the price, unless there’s a sale. I got this panel for $280 down from $400. Read this review. Here’s the quick specs: 4K, 60hz, HDR, Freesync, 5ms GtG, IPS, 98% sRGB color range. You may be wondering how the UL550 compares to the 500, 600 and 650. They all have the same panel, except brightness. The 500 and 550 both are 300 nits in brightness, while the 600 and 650 can reach 400 nits. Truth be told, 300 is plenty bright enough, is above the average, and actually makes more sense. All 4 panels only hit 300 nits in HDR. The HDR400 on the Ul650 doesn’t truly hit 400 nits, go look at reviews. Now for this monitor I tested it on an Xbox One X with HDR10, 4k and Freesync enabled. I played Modern Warfare, Blackout, various Rpgs, etc. The response rate and input lag is exceptionally low for an IPS. You will not feel the difference if you’re coming from a TN panel, but you will notice how much nicer the image on this is. It’s very impressive for IPS. The color range is almost 100%, so yeah, enough said on that.HDR is nice, it shows. For those that say you need 1000 nits to hit true HDR, that’s true if you’re looking at a TV which is supposed to be viewed from 6ft+ away. 1000 nits on a monitor right in front of you would screw your eyes up. I tested HDR on/off on various titles and the conclusion is, keep it on!If gaming on an FPS avoid the FPS preset. It sets the response rate to “faster” which is uneccesaey and kills some image quality. Instead use the custom feature, make sure the game response rate is on “fast”, enable freesync, then enable it on your Xbox/PC. Leave the Backlight brightness as 100, contrast at 60-70, and sharpness at 40. Don’t use super resolution, you don’t need it if you’re seeing 4k.Have a nice day. Enjoy the monitor, it’s fantastic.

Compares well to more expensive LG 27UN850-W

This looks pretty good side by side with my more expensive LG Ultrafine display. (27UN850-W). The main difference is this has a larger bezel, no USB C, and noticeably cheaper quality stand. The LCD Panels looked about the same out of the box and needed only minor adjustment. I am using for creative work so I pretty sensitive and honestly this looks great side by side with the more expensive version of this display.I bought this to go up to a 3 monitor setup on my desk and take the place of a 1440p display in a dual monitor setup so I would have 4k resolution on both. So this was kind of a redundant upgrade for me and being over $100 less than current price of getting a second 27UN850-W was the primary selling point for me. I can live with larger bezel and cheap stand. Main thing is the display panel quality looks next to my 27UN850-W.
